They were excellent on everything else except one response and they still haven't finished that. They call ahead and they schedule.

The up front consultation went very well. The engineer was very knowledgeable and explained different options to improve the heating and airconditioning control of the house. There was no pressure for new equipment when changing ducting was the best option. The installation wet failly smooth. The technicians did neeed to return when condensation built up in the unit and leaked on the floor. They needed to bring in the engineer again to understand the issue and finally resolve the cause. Thiis was agrevating because of the various visits but in the end they did retrofit an exisitng unit and it does operate as we had hoped. The new zones work really well and minimize the running of the air conditioner for the whole house. I expect that the utiliites cost will be much lower even with the extreme heat of the summer.

They were very good with their delivery. They were also on time with providing the dumpster which was also in very good condition. All terms of the rental agreement were read to me. I would use them and recommend them.

At first we were very impressed with Smalling because out of all the contractors we asked to provide us with quotes, Smalling's was the most quickly provided as well as the most inexpensive. However, it was still out of our budget range. When I called Steve and asked if there was any way we could lower the price, he worked out some ways to reduce the price (ie, painted instead of stained trim, and a non-name brand sink fixture, etc.) One reason we chose Smalling construction is because they told us they could do the job extremely quickly (in under 2 weeks). However, they still ended up taking almost a full 2 weeks to do the job, so they were not as quick as we thought they would be. The workmen were all polite, but some of them seemed less than professional, and the order in which the projects were done seemed very odd and at times, backwards. The main example of this is the fact that they installed the new hardwood floor first, then put in the cabinets and countertops, and then, at the very last, painted. We have done lots of home renovation ourselves, and unless they had some sort of mysterious elaborate plan that they did not explain to us, we were totally baffled why they chose to paint last. They tried to be careful, but there are still paint specks on our floor and our stove because they did the project so backwards. Why wouldn't they have painted FIRST? Additionally, they did not paint all of the new trim before it was installed on the walls, so once again, the paint job did not look perfect because they were forced to try to paint the trim without getting paint on the walls, and vice versa. Speaking of the trim for the kitchen, we had agreed that all new trim would be installed. However, we discovered that their paint crew simply painted over much of our old stained trim rather than installing new trim, and they did NOT mentioned this to us--we discovered this ourselves. Seemed a little shady, as though they were scamming us out of new trim. When I pointed this out to Steve Smalling, he explained that his crew must have thought that the old trim looked good and didn't need to be replaced. He assured me that the price would be taken out of our bill......however, it never was. The crew left all of their leftover trim and baseboard in our garage, so I suppose that they thought this would balance out our bill. Luckily for us, we were able to use some of that extra trim and baseboard, but for most people, this would have been a huge hassle to get rid of it! Also, they scratched up the brand new hardwood floor--of course, we didn't discover this until it was too late to fix things! Overall, we weren't too pleased with Smalling Construction. If you are flipping a house or need to sell yours quickly (as we did) then they are fine, because they will get the job done relatively quickly and it will look okay. However, if you are planning to stay in your house for 30 years, don't use Smalling, because they don't pay attention to little details.

Joe Hoffman, salesman and owner, was very courteous, polite, professional, helpful, respectful for what I wanted yet willing to offer new ideas. He was punctual, efficient and offered an accurate, detailed estimate of $26000.oo for the siding, shingles and eleven casement windows. The cost was very reasonable. After hiring Joe he was always easy to reach and kept me informed on what was going down with the job. Joe's men not only did an excellent job on my house and cleaned up after themselves, but were very helpful and respectful of my infant childcare business that I was still able to keep going. This is a great company to work with. I am so happy and excited with the new, beautiful look of my home that I am hiring them to do the landscaping as well.

These guys are the greatest. I've had my Jeep routinely serviced here (maintenance, water pump, electric window repair, tires, etc.) over the last 2 years, and I highly recommend them. Superb customer service, quality work and dependability.
