I called them for service on my hot water heating system on Sunday morning. I told the service it wasn't an a emergency and it could wait until Monday. I got a call Monday morning and the earliest they could come out was Thursday of that week. I found another company to come out later on Monday afternoon. When I called to cancel the Thursday service call, they asked the reason why. After I explained because of the long wait, they asked "would I still cancel if they could have someone there that day?" I asked why they didn't offer that the first time I called. I canceled anyway.

I was very pleased with our experience. They managed to squeeze us in their schedule while other companies I called could not see us for almost a week. I have a child with asthma so a non-functioning A/C during a hot spell is not going to cut it! Ron, the technician showed up in the afternoon and after checking around, found the circuit board had gotten wet due to a pipe dripping onto it (we have only lived in the house for less than two years). We had no idea we were supposed to clean out some piping every year. Anyway, Ron was very honest, very thorough and extremely knowledgeable. Unfortunately, we had to wait a few days for a new board as it had to be ordered. He told me the cost could be up $400 but he wasn't sure and someone would call me. My only beef was no one ever called and I had to call them. However, the lady I spoke to was also very nice and did tell me that I was on her list to be called but she just hadn't gotten to me yet - to their benefit, it WAS very hot that week and I'm sure they were swamped. The board ended up costing less than $200 and Ron returned to install the board. I highly recommend this company and Ron especially.
Description of Work: Our A/C wasn't working - no air blowing out of the vents at all. Had to have circuit board replaced on the A/C unit.

Zenner & Ritter is a company I would highly recommend to anyone interested in getting excellent advice and service, excellent workmanship, and a high degree of professionalism. This becomes very evident during all planning and working stages. Starting with the owners and the sales personnel and ending with all service people and installers, the company lives up to the excellent ratings it has been receiving which now include my own. Based on my two installation experiences, I continue to be highly impressed with how Z&R pays attention to its workmanship and service as well as how it tries to satisfy its costumers and their individual needs and schedules. Knowing that in our case we had a rather tight schedule to meet, Z&R came through in high colors to the point that during one of the installation dates we had two crews working together and the target completion date was met as promised. I am now extremely satisfied with both, our heating system and our new air conditioning system. Thank you Zenner & Ritter.
Description of Work: This was my second experience with Zenner & Ritter. The first, about three years ago, Z&R installed a water boiler in my home, replacing the original one which heated our home. The second, recently completed, was an installation of an air conditioning system which, due to the current water (base board) system, had to be installed utilizing the attic with air defusers through the ceiling.

Response from Zenner & Ritter Home Services
Correct; estimates for new systems or components (new construction, furnace replacements, new water heaters, insulation, energy audits, replacement air conditioners, gas lines, etc.) are typically offered at no charge to the client / prospective client. However, a service call (e.g. request to repair a furnace, air conditioner, etc.) are a chargeable diagnostic service call if the system is not under warranty / was installed or modified by others / is not covered by a maintenance program. Thank you! - Brian

Horrible. Rude people answer the phone. And no one gets back to you.
Description of Work: I had an appointment scheduled between 9-12. I called to find out where the technician was because I had a conflict at 11. The person who answered the phone was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. She kept saying he'll be there between 12 and Noon!!! She said she would call the tech, but I'm sure she never did. I wanted to talk about rescheduling and she just spoke over me and said he would call when he was on his way. Tech (Gary) never called. He just showed up. He was unable to fix the problem (squirrel's nest in vent) because he didn't have a strong enough shop vac. Left when one of his children called and needed him to do something with a car. Said he would call and come back later to install new vents (and hopefully have another shop vac). He never called or came back. I called the office and they said they would have him call me in the morning. I called twice the next day and they said Gary would call but he never did.

Getting an estimate was painless and easy. Everything was explained well and I was given several options in the price range and brands I was interested in. Scheduling the job was likewise easy, as they were willing to come essentially as soon as they had all the parts. The install went well - they finished up earlier than expected and left a (mostly) clean work site (see below). The new A/C seems to work fine. I will come back and update when the hot summer months arrive. The workers were on time, as unobtrusive as humanly possible, and were happy to show me the work done before the last man left. There are only two things that left my wife and me a little less than completely satisfied. 1. One of the workers left a disposable cigarette lighter on top of our hot water heater, right next to the exhaust blower. 2. For some reason, the workers shut off our hot water heater, and did not turn it back on. There was enough residual hot water in the tank for our evening use, so we did not notice until my wife took her morning shower. It was less than a pleasant discovery. Luckily it took just the flip of a switch to turn back on, but still, not a pleasant way to start the day! Silly oversight on their part that otherwise mars what would have been an A level experience. Hopefully they put more attention to detail into the actual install - I'll be watching it closely for the first couple of months it gets heavy use!

They haven’t come out yet, we have a contract and they are going to do it next week. What we are doing is through Energy Star Program so it’s taken us 2 months to take all the approvals and stuff. They explained everything very well and they have very good reputation when I asked around about them. The pricing was competitive.

After obtaining numerous estimates and visits from other contractors, Zenner and Ritter came and walked through the entire process with recommendations, supplying reference materials for items they recommended. Their explanations were clear, and where we couldnt understand some of the technical aspects, they went over it in 'layman's terms as needed. To me, it was all complicated, but they broke it all down as to why something needed to be done a certain way. Most important, they listened to my expectations, and worked with me on those areas. They also explained any rebates from manufacturers, utility company, etc. They came to the job on time, left nothing for me to clean up. They explained the workings of the programmable thermostat they installed, and the workmen were pleasant and answered questions as needed. The A/C unit in the backyard was installed well, with a nice platform, ensuring it wouldnt get uneven or sink into the ground. Overall, it was a most pleasant experience, and I wouldnt hesitation to call them again for any issues I have.

They were really good. They came when they said they’d come and the guy gave me a couple options and was up-front and honest about the costs. Actually, the option I chose was more expensive than a quick fix but it was the right thing to do. He could have made more money from me if he came back more than once to fix the problem. I appreciated that.

The job went beautifully. They started first thing in the morning, with the crew eventually totalling 3 men and were done by 4PM. They even did a nice job of cleaning up after the installation. The only negative was they need to get a dolly that walks up stairs as the old boiler was quite heavy and removing it chewed up the front edges of the cellar stairs. This was not a big deal to me (easy fix) but it could be for someone else.

Just about a month back, we called Zenner and Ritter to "service" our furnace. on the day of the appointment, the service person called to say that he was running late, and could he come tomorrow. As it was just routine, and we had the time, we agreed. Next day (Dec 13th) he came just a little late, wiped a little dust off the furnace, checked some dials, there was no filter to replace, explained the workings of the furnace and charged us a cool $80.00 for the 20 minutes that he was with us. Fast Fwd to today. No heating since ? 3 AM. Very cold. We call Zenner and Ritter again. The man comes soon enough, says the Gas Valve needs to be replaced, but the Market is closed?, goes out and buys a Honewell Universal Gas Valve, replaces the faulty one and charges us $400.00, but honestly accepts that the faulty valve should have been spotted by the Serviceman a month earlier, and that the Company would reimburse the Service fees charged a month ago. Will update, as and when Zenner & Ritter do reimburse, and earn points on honesty and professionalism!! Well the Company said, a day later, that they DO NOT reimburse. So much for the professionalism / honesty !! Quite Expensive !! Unprofessional dealing. 50% workforce seems to be temp / unqualified!
Description of Work: On Dec.13, 2011 a Service person came, one day late, and with a cloth wiped a dial, took a look around, and said that everything was perfect, which it was not (we later learnt). The house was taking hours to warm up, but he didn't notice that. He did explain quickly the working of the furnace and in 20 minutes collected $80.00 and was gone. On Jan 24th. night the heating broke and we woke up to a cold, cold house. Called Z & R, and a service person came around 4pm. Said a valve needs to be replaced, but the shops close at 4, but he will try some other store. Went and came back in 30-45 mins, replaced the part, charged us $400. and left!!

Response from Zenner & Ritter Home Services
This homeowner actually threatened a negative online review if we didn’t provide a credit / refund. This was our first exposure to “e-review” blackmail. We accept valid criticism, and if we commit an error we endeavor make it right. And even though we committed no error in this case, we offered this client a complimentary system cleaning and tune-up at a time of his choosing in the next 12 months (a value equivalent to the refund being sought). One of the omissions of this member’s review is that he had a ‘plumber’ work on the boiler in the period between our two visits. We offer good service at a fair price. And if you are looking for honesty in your service provider, you’ll find it here. But while customer satisfaction is our objective, we will NOT be coerced or succumb to threats. Reviews that go beyond opinion to promulgate exaggerated and misleading statements and unjustly call our integrity into question should not and will not be allowed to fester. For those interested in reading further, the history of the service visits is provided below: Our initial visit was for a “clean and check” on the system. The system was operating without exception on that day and the client never contacted us to express a concern regarding the timeliness (client selected the 13th in lieu of the 12th when provided arrival window options), cost (quoted prior to the service call) or quality of service delivered. Over a month later the client contacted our offices indicating that a plumber working at his home told him the boiler was not operating properly. A service technician from our Company was in transit to the home when the client called again to cancel the appointment. The client indicated the other contractor already at his home ‘fixed’ the system. A few days later the client contacted our offices again to seek assistance with the boiler. As he acknowledges, the service was timely and a failed gas valve was a portion of the suggested repair. The part was not a typical model and, to complete the repair that day, a second technician was dispatched to retrieve the appropriate part and meet up with the first. Our technician never voiced an opinion that the gas valve should have been replaced during the “clean and check” visit a month earlier. As previously stated, the system was heating properly at the time of our initial visit; imagine being told that a $400 repair was necessary for your working system! Whether it’s a TV, dishwasher, car, etc., mechanical failure can occur without warning. Is this case it is interesting to note the component failure occurred just after the boiler was ‘fixed’ by another service provider. After interacting with less than 4% of our staff this member declares in a general, sweeping statement that we are unprofessional and “50% workforce seems to be temp / unqualified.” In contrast, our full-time, factory-certified technicians quoted pricing in advance, delivered timely service and effected meaningful repairs. Our pricing is extremely competitive, if not the best in the market for licensed and insured professionals (and certainly a better value than the other contractor who “fixed” the boiler only so we could repair it a few days later). Please understand this is not our typical response to a homeowner expressing concerns regarding service. This situation extends beyond a difference of opinion to an unwarranted attack on the character of our Company and its employees. Accordingly, we felt it was important to publish a more detailed explanation of the exchange. If anyone reading this has question or concerns regarding service we provided recently or in years long since passed, please do not hesitate to communicate directly with our offices. Thank you.

Following our surprise blizzard of Friday, October 13, 2006 during which we were left without electricity for nine days, we decided to have an automatic backup generator installed at our house. We checked around and settled on Zenner & Ritter, our neighborhood dealer. We selected their best reviewed model, Lennox (Kohler) 12 kilowatt. They installed it and have serviced it since then. We have not had any problems and are pleased with our purchase and service. It turns itself on each Friday afternoon for about 20 minutes so we know it is functioning OK. We have had a few short power outages during which it worked as expected. We have had Zenner & Ritter periodically service our furnace and air conditioner and are happy with their work.
