Urban Arborists Inc

Tree Service, Landscaping, Pavers and Hardscaping,

About us

Award winning. Bill Logan founded Urban Arborists to care for trees and shrubs where they matter most: in cities and suburbs, where they are often people's chief link to the natural world. Throughout the tri-state area, from backyard gardens in Bed-Stuy, to Manhattan townhouses, to cathedral and museum grounds, to New York City streets, to Westchester homes and estates, Urban Arborists brings the highest standards of knowledge, attention and care to the woody plants that transform lots into landscapes, yards into gardens, streets into groves. When people ask us what we do, we say, "We do everything and anything for trees and shrubs. We plant them, we prune them, we treat and fertilize them, we design with them, we teach about them, we advise on their health and well-being, we assess the reasons for their failure, and when it is necessary, we safely remove them." We insist on this broad approach for two reasons: First, it means that we know and understand - not only from education but from first-hand experience - the whole life cycle of the plants for which we care. Second, it means that our work is varied and engaging. Like good farmers, we follow tasks from season to season and from landscape to landscape. Because we treat gardens as living beings, they pay us back with work that keeps our interest and stimulates our continual learning. We look with our customers at the whole fabric of their gardens, their landscapes, their streets. We see where the light and the wind come from. We assess what companion plants may help or hurt a tree or shrub's resistance to antagonists. We look at the results of past care, of new construction, of any and all changes in the local landscape. We test the soils both on the spot and in the lab. We go over each tree or shrub from root to crown to see what is living with it and what may be feeding on it. When a crew from Urban Arborists is pruning neglected trees, they do not simply follow a job sheet. They aim to make the trees as safe, as healthy and as beautiful as they can possibly be. As one client wrote, "My wife and I work at home. We tried to ignore the pruning, but in the end we stopped even pretending to work while we watched your men. It was like a ballet or a circus, only in the end it brought us these beautiful trees." Additional e-mails - bill@urbanarb.com, laura@urbanarb.com, beth@urbanarb.com, George@urbanarb.com. Award winning. Additional address - 522 State St, Brooklyn NY 11217.

Description of Work: Work was competently done. Only minus was that I needed to followup a couple of times after the site visit to get an estimate and then schedule the work.

Description of Work: They were very responsive at first, sending someone out to look at our trees and give an estimate right away. The woman who came seemed knowledgeable and gave us a good price, saying it was a minimum job (not that much work involved), and promised to email a formal proposal for pruning back the trees. She never sent an email, so I called and she said, impatiently, "It's only been a week. We'll send it." It has now been over two more weeks. Clearly they are not interested in doing the work, so why didn't she just say so? Why give a low price -- ensuring that we would wait to hear from them -- and then ignore us? I find this highly unprofessional, and it has delayed the work by several weeks. Next time, please just say "no, thank you."

Description of Work: The Urban Arborist staff was very punctual and professional. They pruned and cut back 18 large ginko trees 2 magnolia trees and a cherry tree. They also cut down a dead tree and grinded down its stump. The work was done to our satisfaction. All debris was removed during their work and at the end of the job. They made sure the area was free of any branches and totally clean before they left. Highly recommended.

Description of Work: I called to set up an appointment. The rep said I would receive a call from a service provider in about a week's time. This is to provide an estimate for the service, not actual service. I waited one week and no call nor a proposal because the rep said I don't necessarily have to be there. I called again, and the rep said I would get a proposal in three days time, the end of the week. Waited another three days and still no call. Called the office and nobody is answering the phone.

Description of Work: They pruned wisteria gone wild on a pear tree, as well as the dead branches of the pear tree. During the initial inspection, we thought more of the pear tree was still alive. As it turned out, a very large part of it was dead. They pruned the vast majority of the wisteria and most of the pear and by the time they were finished, my backyard was full of tree clippings. They had to bring the clippings through the house to get them out to the street and I was worried that I'd have a mess, but not one twig was dropped! The workers were very professional and did an awesome job. The only problem with the service was that it kept getting rescheduled. It ended up taking more than five months from the first call to the final appointment when the actual work was completed.

I called the company and made an appointment for a licensed arborist to come and see both trees and evaluate the health of the trees. Mr. Logan came and told me the kind of trees they were. Had a good discussion about what needs to get down, the process that his company does and I liked what I heard. That first visit and estimate was free. I had called two other arborists before, that would have charged just to come see the trees. My communication with Beth at Urban Arborists office to get proposed contract and schedule was a pleasure. The day of the removal: Five men from URBAN ARBORISTS INC came at 8:20am. They started working right away and one could see that they knew how to work together. Great communication between themselves, which assured their safety and the care and safety of the property and neighboring yards. They had both trees down in less than 4 hours and it took as long to clear it out of the yard. They left everything clean and clear of all debris. This was a very BIG and hard job and they made it look easy.
Description of Work: To remove to the base one approx 30" diameter tree and to remove to the base one approx 12" diameter tree and to dispose of all downed wood. These are two very large trees in a small court yard, adjacent to several other small yards.

FANTASTIC! I thought they would do a good job based on Bill Logan's expertise and the artistic sensitivity he had to keeping the dead trunk, but I was impressed with every aspect of the job. The crew was top-notched and so was the office staff. The crew arrived on time, were pleasant, understood the job, did it quickly, did not unduly disturb the under plantings, cleaned up beautifully and cut the tree in a very natural, attractive way.
Description of Work: Urban Arborists removed the top of an old Catalpa tree whose crown had split. I requested that they leave the standing dead trunk because it had an interesting twisted shape and to cut the tree in such a way that it would look as sculptural as possible (as opposed to looking lopped off).

Bill Logan is the owner of the company and did the work himself, he is a licensed arborist and really knows his trees. He has even been published for a book on Oak trees. The tree was in a high risk area, too close to the house and power lines and he did a professional highly recommended job. I do not discuss monetary matters, but he was fairly priced for excellent quality.
Description of Work: He pruned a huge tree in front of our house.
