Urban Arborists Inc

Tree Service, Landscaping, Pavers and Hardscaping,

About us

Award winning. Bill Logan founded Urban Arborists to care for trees and shrubs where they matter most: in cities and suburbs, where they are often people's chief link to the natural world. Throughout the tri-state area, from backyard gardens in Bed-Stuy, to Manhattan townhouses, to cathedral and museum grounds, to New York City streets, to Westchester homes and estates, Urban Arborists brings the highest standards of knowledge, attention and care to the woody plants that transform lots into landscapes, yards into gardens, streets into groves. When people ask us what we do, we say, "We do everything and anything for trees and shrubs. We plant them, we prune them, we treat and fertilize them, we design with them, we teach about them, we advise on their health and well-being, we assess the reasons for their failure, and when it is necessary, we safely remove them." We insist on this broad approach for two reasons: First, it means that we know and understand - not only from education but from first-hand experience - the whole life cycle of the plants for which we care. Second, it means that our work is varied and engaging. Like good farmers, we follow tasks from season to season and from landscape to landscape. Because we treat gardens as living beings, they pay us back with work that keeps our interest and stimulates our continual learning. We look with our customers at the whole fabric of their gardens, their landscapes, their streets. We see where the light and the wind come from. We assess what companion plants may help or hurt a tree or shrub's resistance to antagonists. We look at the results of past care, of new construction, of any and all changes in the local landscape. We test the soils both on the spot and in the lab. We go over each tree or shrub from root to crown to see what is living with it and what may be feeding on it. When a crew from Urban Arborists is pruning neglected trees, they do not simply follow a job sheet. They aim to make the trees as safe, as healthy and as beautiful as they can possibly be. As one client wrote, "My wife and I work at home. We tried to ignore the pruning, but in the end we stopped even pretending to work while we watched your men. It was like a ballet or a circus, only in the end it brought us these beautiful trees." Additional e-mails - bill@urbanarb.com, laura@urbanarb.com, beth@urbanarb.com, George@urbanarb.com. Award winning. Additional address - 522 State St, Brooklyn NY 11217.

Urban Arborists came out and gave an estimate. It took them a long time, like 2 or 3 hours. I live in the city, so I didn't want to keep the wood. They were really good and careful. They were reliable. They have done work in the neighborhood and they have done work for the private park down the street. I chose them based on their reviews on Angie's List and that based on their work at the park that they do a good job. Their intent is to save the tree and not to cut it down. They only do what is necessary to make the tree safe and that you are not going to kill it. They were definitely an A in professionalism.
Description of Work: Urban Arborists trimmed my trees and removed debris. They did a lot of work taking down what they took down. It was a giant Silver Maple that got damaged in the hurricane. They came out and trimmed all the dead branches and topped it a little bit.

we had a 35'' blue spruce tree who fall down during "Sandy" storm on October 29 2012. the next day we call about a dozen tree removal Co, but everybody was overbook, then when we call Urban Arborists, they told us that they accept the job but it will not be done before Thanksgivings, probably the first week of December because of all the work they already responded to. Next day one of their rep, Laura came to estimate the work to be done, she was very professional and told us that we will get a price on our email the next day. The email came and they will be charging us $850 for the fallen tree and $85 for the pruning. and the date will be December 5. We agree and they send 3 workers on that date. they came by 8.00am, they look at the job to be done, (not easy since they had to cut everything in small pieces in order to remove it through the house) that team was very nice, very professional, they finish in 3 hours, clean up all the debris in our neighbor garden and in ours. We are very satisfied and will recommend Urban Arborist to our friends or anybody who need them. J & M B Astoria, NY

I am very satisfied.I contacted 7 area tree services, three of which arrived for estimates. Of the two that were insured, Urban Arborist' quote was a few hundred dollars lower. The phone response was quick and an appointment was set up. Lauren arrived on time, as did her work crew once the appointment was made. The "B" I gave for responsiveness was because they could not (for whatever reason) provide a quote for the job until about a week and a half after the showing. Which I thought was a bit of a long time to wait, but no big deal. The "B" I gave for quality was an afterthought, where many pine needles and wood shavings from the chainsawing of the pine tree are littering the patio area and will need to be vacuumed up. (they had a leafblower available but these trimmings are snagged into the patio carpeting. If they had laid a chrap plastic tarp down around the tree then lots of this stuff would have been caught. Overall I am VERY satisfied with the work done, the area they had to work in to get the pine tree down was very tight. The customer service was good also. The invoice did not contain the 10% angies list discount, and also the workers forgot to remove the trestle and other support stakes/debris that help hold up the vines and other bushes that I had cut down. Two quick phone calls and they sent a crew out to pick up these items (which they did) and adjusted the invoice. So the customer service did not drag their feet about upholding their ends of the proposal. I will add before and after pictures as soon as I figure out how to.
Description of Work: Removal of a pine tree approximately 60 feet high. Removal of a pear tree about 10 feet high Removal of a wespia (?) vine about ten feet high disposal of the aforementioned as well as the leftovers of numerous smaller woody bushes that i had cut up myself, as well as the supports that held everything I listed upright.

Both, my husband and I were pleased with the work. Our initial meeting with Laura was great, she informed us on our male mulberry tree, and shared tips on how to take better care him. Beth called and confirmed a date of service, shortly after we received and confirmed on the contract. On the day of pruning, Andres and his team showed up on time and did an amazing job on our tree! Our neighbor came over and was so impressed that he too said he would call and use UA for his tree! We also mentioned Angie's List and we got a discount as well! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I wanted to get an estimate on a tree removal on my property and after several calls I finally got a call back from Beth. she informed me that they have a 495.00 minimum job charge and so she took all my information and said she would call back the next day with a visit date and time but I never heard from her again. After a few weeks I called again thinking that maybe she misplaced my # etc. still no call back, that was 3 days ago.I'm going to take that as not intrested in the job and move on.Very unprofessional and arrogant attitude.

Laura, the arborist, came out to survey and gave me an estimate. She was very pleasant & professional. She e-mail me an estimate, they had to wait for a permit from the NYC Parks department, then we setup a date for the job. The pruning of the pin oat tree was to prevent squirrel access into the attic; also the tree was over growing over electric wires to the house. The crew arrived exactly on time of the date scheduled. They were all pleasant & professional. We encounter a little problem wait pruning the tree, that Laura and her crew were able to solve via phone, (taken into account that this job was done on a Saturday). I'm extremely satisfied with the quality of the work. They did a great job of cleaning up.

They were great. They cut it all up for me in logs for the fireplace without complaining. I was impressed by that. They were the lowest price of all the companies I talked to. They acted like they genuinely like trees and like planting. I like the fact that they employed a crew that all knew each other and had done this a million times before. They were very skilled and bought down each piece of the tree slowly and carefully...there was no crashing or bumping. Then they cheerfully cut it all up for me and cleaned up everything. They were great.

Laura, the arborist, came to survey our requirements. She arrived exactly when she said she would. She was pleasant & professional. She said she would prepare an estimate & e-mail it to us for approval. We received the estimate and approved it. The crew arrived exactly on time of the date scheduled. They were all pleasant & professional, and paid great attention to all details. Very respectful of both ours and neighbors property. We were extremely satisfied with the quality of the work. They did a great job of cleaning up - the best we have ever had.

We had some issues with the trees in our back yard. They did a fabulous job of diagnosing and fixing it up and helping us. We would recommend them to others. They are prompt in getting back to you when you enquire about needing their services. Usually every time we had something the guy who owns the company contact us and personally comes and does our assessment. He is always willing to work with us and they don’t do the hard sell thing which is great. We never had any issue with them at all. The first time we used them was when we brought this house in 1999 and we had massive tree in the back that had apparently had got right on the inside. They came literally the next day and were able to take it down. It was extraordinary to watch how expertly they did that as it was huge covered 5yards. They took the stump out and everything. Then the tree that they recommended that we planted in its place is been a really great choice. Our neighbors also hired them to do something and they have been happy. We have always felt that their pricing has been always fair and they are very thorough. All the guys that work with them are really nice considerate that they clean up. As we have a rill-house so everything has to go through the house and there is no access to the street through the back yard. So they are meticulous about cleaning up and stuff.

I and several of our neighbors have used them. They were very good. They came on time. They gave me a realistic assessment. They did the work that I asked them to do. Twice I have had down limbs, limbs that kind of broke on the tree and they took care of it. The men were very nice. A representative came first to look at the job. He came here on time. He was very nice. He was very professional. Several other companies never returned my phone call. I actually liked the fact that they got back to me. They weren’t that cheap.

I have a very large oak tree on my property that is close to my house and I was worried that it might cause damage to my house or my neighbors house during a severe storm. Bill Logan, who it turned out, wrote a book on Oak trees, came out and assured me that the tree was sound but needed to be pruned to raise the branches 10 feet above my house and also remove any dead branches on the tree. One small tree near the Oak needed to be removed and other assorted trees needed some attention as well. Three men came out on the appointed day and efficiently did the work as outlined above. This entailed climbing the large oak removing branches and lowering them using ropes as necessary to the ground. All wood was fed into their "chip maker" and the job was done.

We initially reached out to them for a quote and some advice on our trees. Laura Wooley came to our house and listened to our concerns and inspected the trees with a promise to get back to us with a quote. After a few weeks we hadn't heard from them so we called again. Laura remembered us immediately and was very apologetic and explained that they had become very busy but that we would receive the proposal within the next few days. She was true to her word and on the day the job took place the Foreman, Andreas, arrived with his team, on time (8am), and they did a magnificent job on our property. They were very careful with our belongings (furniture, planters etc) and there were no mishaps with downing tree limbs and the myriad of utility lines and storage sheds that were nearby. Because one of the trees leans over into my neighbor's yard, alot ot debris fell into their space and they were very thorough in the clean up throughout. In fact, they actually left my yard cleaner than they found it. They were also nice enough to cut out some logs from the removed branches (at our request) and gave us some wood chips for our garden. Both trees look great and we are now ready for winter! Overall, working with Urban Arborists was a real pleasure. I would use them again and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They pruned a 36"-45" diameter silver maple tree in the backyard and removed all dead, weak, and crossing branches; pulled back branches to increase light penetration to the garden below; pulled back branches from neighboring building. They also inspected said tree to detect any possible decay or cavities. Second part of the job was pruning the single stem privet in front of my house and removing dead branches as well as reducing the weight of overgrown branches on the top of the tree.

Estimate was given day after storm. Job completed within hours a couple of days later. Job was tricky because the tree was huge, brittle, and had broken and draped over the neighborhood telephone wires and two neighbors' yards. Workers were very efficient. Each had a specific job but they worked as a team as well. The acrobatic work with the chain saw, precise dropping of tree branches, organization around sawing, chipping, and debris removal was truly amazing to watch. Very nice work.
