We had a few things that needed fixing and Bob came by to give an estimate on each of them and then we booked him for the next weekend. He arrived right on time, with all the correct equipment and a canvas to keep the work area clean. He is extremely nice and professional and obviously very experienced. He got the work done quickly. We'll definitely be calling him again for future work.
Description of Work: The first job was to fix a leak from our newly installed kitchen sink (work of a shoddy contractor.) He removed the sink strainer, and re-set it with plumber's putty. He also put brackets on to hold the pipes which were hanging precariously from poor installation. The second job was in the bathroom: he installed a new handle on the flushometer on the toilet.

At the very end of January, Bob came over to discuss the three projects I wanted taken care of - he was a bit on the early side (I wanted to make my bed!), but it was after the second big snowstorm, and he did keep the appointment and parked four blocks away which I thought was really considerate. He also put on 'booties' to protect my floor from the slush. :) The service call fee was waived as I found Man@Work on Angie's List. Within 48 hours, I had flat fee estimates for each of the three projects. Now, I give Bob a "B" on price because he is expensive - I think he would probably tell you that. However, he takes pride in what he does and I trust that he guarantees his work. As it may pinch at first, I believe it's work that is being done well, correctly, and will last. (You can probably find 'handymen' who charge less - I don't necessarily think a 'cheaper' vendor's work would be as good or last as long, but time will tell...) I chose one of the three projects which was the bathtub and we arranged to have it done on February 16, 2011. I asked Bob about the week of Feb. 14th and he gave me three possible dates on his availability which I found pretty accommodating. He was about 15 minutes early for the appointment (but this time, the bathroom was ready for him!) and set up right away. My bathtub measures approximately 46" deep by 44" wide - sort of a boxy rectangle. It also has a 'indented' section for a 'shelf' extension of the tub - my building was built in 1941, so it's certainly not standard. For this 90 degree edge, Bob cut two tiles, had them meet, and filled it in with a lot of silicone to keep it neat and solid. He also asked my opinion on what I wanted to do about the edge - which was considerate! The finished tub is gorgeous - I no longer have unsightly grout/silicone mildewing away (no matter how much Tilex or Soft Scrub I used!) or flaking off. The tile covers the gap wonderfully and I just have to remember no water for 48 hours. We decided to go with black tile to complement the subway tile on the top which is also black (the tiles on the bath walls are green.) The bathroom was left in exactly the same condition before he started. All refuse from the job travels back in the Man@Work van. I will most likely have Bob back to finish the remaining projects - again, it's a pinch on the $$, but I trust him.
Description of Work: Bob Sessa (owner of Man@Work) tiled my bathtub where the wall tile meets the bathtub (and did a beautiful job!) Originally, there was a very wide gap between the green wall tile and white bathtub filled in with a combination of silicone adhesive and grout from previous jobs. It's original considition was not-so-great and kind of unsightly.

Bob responded to our call promptly. He came to our apt. and assessed a leak caused by old degraded faucet parts and lack of seal at joint between tub and floor. Bob offered two solutions at two very different prices. We went with the more thorough, but expensive option. Bob returned a couple days later as planned with everything he needed and in a timely way. I witnessed the way Bob worked and was impressed with his care and precision. He spent about 4.5 hours working and then answered my questions about what he had done. He tidied up fairly well, sorting trash from recycling. The one thing I would do in the future is make sure there is a drop cloth (or some protective thing) on the tile floor while work is being done as this would limit post-work clean up. I found Bob to be respectful, trustworthy and straight-forward. He was willing to discuss his prices honestly and was very knowledgeable. This can be hard to find in his line of work, in my experience. I thought the price was a little high, but I'm willing to go with it when I find someone I can confidently go back to.
Description of Work: Assessed source of leak in shower/bathroom, replaced and upgraded shower head and hot/cold water faucet unit (in-wall plumbing as well as fixtures), caulked joint between tub and floor.

He was communicative. He showed up and did pretty good work. He was clean, and he didn't leave a mess. He was friendly. Overall, it was a good experience. I don't have anything to compare his price to. He might be a little expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: We had a leaky faucet in our bathtub, so he changed out the mechanism for the shower in the tub. He also did some other little jobs in the bathroom.

He work was done quickly and professionally. Parking is a problem in my neighborhood, but he searched for a spot for over an hour and half until he found one. Then performed beyond my expectatios.
Description of Work: Replaced pipes under kitchen sink. I have had a leak under the sink and had it repaired before with no good result. The work performed by Man@work was very professional and fast. He also replaced pipes in bathroom toilet which was also leaking.

Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing
Wow! I understand the "C" rating on pricing which is expected of the "Price Shopper" as opposed to the "Value Shopper". But on responsiveness I'm a liitle disappointed. On my first visit we had a 2 p.m. appointment and the Member called and said she was running late. I arrived at 1:45pm and sat in my vehicle until approx. 2:30pm. I fortunately gained access to the apartment from another tenant in the building and diagnosised the problem before the Member arrived. I presented her with options and said to call me when she made her decision. She did call and expressed that my price was to high which is totally fine. By the way did I mention I did provide all this service for $0.00. That's correct as promised my service call fee was waived.I would like to give this consumer a "B" for Punctually!.

Bob was prompt in his e-mail responses to my questions and concerns. He advised me how to address the problem, made an appointment and promptly arrived, giving me samples and details about the job. He contacted the tenants and kept them in the loop about the dates and times of repairs and kept his appointments and performed the job cleanly and efficiently.

Bob is rather expensive, but after reading the raves on Angie's list I decided to go for him in the hope that I'd think he was worth every penny. He is! He comes when he says he will, does what he says he'll do and cleans up after himself. He's flexible and does his best to be accomodating. The price only hurt for a day. I'll be enjoying the results for years.

Bob, from Man @ Work is a true professional. He shows up on time, is focused, neat, and considerate. He is definitely not your average "handyman." He has had a good deal of experience, takes pride in his work, and certainly did a great job for me. He was accommodating to my difficult schedule, a pleasure to work with, and I will definitely call him for jobs in the future. He made it clear that if anything wasn't right, he would be back out to fix it - no problem. You could get this type of job done cheaper for sure. I have in the past. But, you very probably will be having it redone (I did), costing even more. I think this fits "you get what you pay for" category. Response and communication was also excellent - particularly if you are into emailing.

Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing
The member is a very nice lady who called and I responded quickly to her request for an appointment. I honored her by waving my service call charge of $29.95 for being an Angie's List member. I visited her residence as pre-arranged, took photos, measurements and assessed the job conditions. I e-mailed my estimate for the cost of the work 24hrs later. Unfortunately, like many consumers the member is shopping on "price" alone. A very unwise practice." The satisfaction of a cheap price is long forgotten when a job goes horribly wrong". My record on Angie's List speaks for itself. I hope the member found a company to suit her needs........Bob Sessa owner MAN@WORK.

We had a wonderful experience with Bob from start to finish. He arrived on time for the estimate and made suggestions of some alternate ways to do things that saved us money! Since we were out of town for the actual work, some issues arose with his being able to obtain the units we had asked for, and he stepped up and found other units that worked perfectly, still right in budget, without losing a minute of the time he had estimated the whole job would take. He emailed us every day to let us know of the progress, and when he was finished my brother took a look around and said the place was clean and that everything had been done that was promised. You can't ask for better than that!

We are planning to sell our place soon and wanted someone to take care of several longstanding touch up projects. Bob from man@work responded to our inquiry quickly and stopped by a few days later to give us an estimate. After consulting with us and giving us a fair estimate, Bob put us on his schedule for the following week. Bob arrived promptly on the scheduled day, was efficient and thorough, and was finished by mid-day. We were both very happy with the quality of his work. We would use his services again and would recommend him to family and friends.

He spread a tarp for his tools to protect the floor. The work was neatly and carefully done. He cleaned up the dirt and rotted wood after removing the rotted windowsill. He matched the trim to the cabinets as best as possible. Also matched the new ceiling panel to the old panels even though the materials are not commonly used anymore due to the age of the house. Very professional attitude and we are very pleased with the overall quality of the work.

Bob was great from start to finish. He was responsive, professional, and true to his word. We found him on Angie's list, reached out, and after getting through a busy time in our life, finally found time to have him come over. I had to take the day off to stay in the apartment, so I appreciated his punctuality and efficient approach to doing the work. Throughout the day, he would show me what he was working on, and ask for my approval of ideas, his work, etc. Also, Bob made time to install the sink top (not in original scope of work) which was greatly appreciated as I had already taken a day off. We plan on using him again for a few other projects in the near future.

Bob waived his travel fee for me as a member of Angie's list, which was a real value. He does work based on number of hours it takes him to do the work and his estimate was right on. He was generous with his time, when there was an unexpected delay due to a problem with materials, he didn't charge me for that time. He did a great job, very professional and really listened to me. The work was all top notch and the apartment looks great.

Bob arrived right on time, handled matters professionally, and got the jobs done. No complaints, but in my experience I have seen the faucet job done faster and for less money. Since it was a tenant's bath, I'd have liked him to either remove the debris from the job site or at least tell me it was there so I could remove it myself before the tenant discovered it on his own.

Thanks for the kind words. As a side note: Upon removing our drop clothes and cleaning our area, we neatly bagged the old parts and asked her tenant where he would like us to place the small plastic bag of rubbish. He replied, that's OK leave it right their I'll remove it. He was in kind of a rush to catch a plane. Nancy was quite busy that day directing a mix of tradespeople and I didn't mention that I spoke to her tenant about the rubbish. Cheers!
