Spoke to receptionist who said there would be an $89 charge for an estimate and the discount coupon could not be applied to the estimate. I said I couldn't really afford it (this was to be my second estimate from a second plumber). She was then very accommodating and said she would check with the boss regarding the estimate and call me back. I never heard from her again, but please note I do not have an answering machine. But, hey, they still have my number.

Fairly quickly diagnosed the problems and solved the immediate situation with rrecommendations for a long term solution.

From start to end, Victor / Petri was super responsive, super professional, courteous and - most importantly - extremely honest and straightforward. The work done was also of high quality.

I called them because my toilet keeps clogging due to something in the trap. Had a nice conversation. They said I could pay their senior special $37 for the guy to come. He showed up with no tools and quoted $500 to clean the trap and said that it might not work, it might not last, that anything might be wrong, and suggested I have the toilet replaced for $1048. This is without questioning the history of the problem and, as I said, without checking it. I asked him to leave and he wanted to be paid for showing up. I refused.

We are redoing the kitchen and needed a radiator changed. I made an appointment for an estimate. They came exactly when they said they would. They were on time and professional which is great considering it wasn't going to be a very big job. A few weeks after that, I found out I needed a new hot water heater. Mike came over to give me an estimate. Mike was knowledgeable in the different types of water heaters there are on the market. He was honest and didn't steer me to the most expensive. I even asked if they could schedule my service on a day that I was going to be off. They squeezed me in on short notice. The workers were professional, friendly, polite, and clean. They even put on booties when they came into my house. I wish all service people could be so wonderful.

The heat system in the house was not working, my husband called Petri and they send a technician to fix. Technician spend less than 30 min in the house, charged $460 for replacing the coil and the system still did not work. He said he needed to "bleed the system" to make it work and it would cost additional $500. I got very suspicious and called the office. The same technical came in a few hours later, did something spending another 30 minutes. Said that he did it on his own time because he felt bad not fixing the problem. The system began to work, but there was very limited heat, we could not understand why and then suddenly the heat stopped working all together - only 2 weeks after the original appointment. I called Petri again, they send another technician, charged us for a visit again although they claim to have warranty on service and technician said that he does not know what the problem is, but would need to charge $1500 to "bleed the system". At this time the price request they quoted was triple of what it was originally. I knew something was wrong and called the office to relate the message and keep them informed that we are still without heat. The were not interested in helping although I had my elderly parents staying with me at the house after Hurricane Sandy has hit their area. I also called a different plumber, he came in and said that the issue was with the pumps, corrected the problem in less than an hour and told me that Petri did not diagnose the problem correctly and overcharged me for fixing the coil, which was not the cause of the problem. I communicated the above events to Michael Petri personally and his assistant Ginny via letters and a phone conversation with Michael Petri. I requested a refund and although he originally agreed to issue a partial refund, he never did. I informed him that I will make this issue public knowledge and will let other people know about the fact that he overcharged us for services, did not fix the problem and refused to issue the refund under service warranty.

Again, excellent customer service when I called. Excellent service. The cost was approximately $280. It's been a few months so I'm not sure the exact number. In any case, I highly recommend this company.

From the second I contacted Petri via Angie's List they were extremely prompt and professional. They got back to me right away and were able to send a plumber the next day. They explained that they charge an $85 service fee, but the charge goes away when you have the service done. Considering how unreliable people can be, and that this guarantees that they will be coming on time and that I will be there to let them in, I think this is a reasonable policy. They also reminded me that they had a coupon for Angie's List first time customers and that I should use it. They gave me a time frame for the appointment. Victor called 15 minutes before arrival, and then promptly arrived. I showed him the various problems: wobbly sink bathtub doesn't drain low water pressure hole in wall where leak was repaired - can we close it up? Turns out the wobbly sink would need a new faucet which would cost about $500, so we didn't do that. Bathtub, he first tried to use our old plate to fix it, but it was cracked and wouldn't work. This would have made it about half the price to fix. He went out and got a new plate and repaired it and it works perfectly. I can actually feel the difference in the lever. It is also perfectly placed, totally flush, and looks perfect. Low water pressure, he explained what looked like the problem, but again, it would have needed a reinstallation of the sink Hole in the wall- he suggested closing it with an access plate instead of drywall, in case there are problems with the pipes in the future. (I should explain that we bought our apartment from a contractor who we have slowly been discovering took a lot of short cuts and did things poorly, including the plumbing. From now on we are only using professionals, but it's not surprising anymore when workers come to our home and are sort of baffled by the poor work of the original contractor. At least it did look pretty though. But looks can be deceiving). Anyways, Victor was great. So professional. He did not push me to do the more expensive repairs. He gave me some tips for how I could reinforce the cracked grouting on the tub and he tried to use my old plate before having me buy a new one. He was fast and efficient, the repair looks great and, more importantly, works great. I don't know how much typical plumbing jobs cost so I can't evaluate the pricing well. I was surprised that it was so pricey, although I am learning that you get what you pay for. It was expensive, but I'm glad that I have confidence in the work, which is also warranted for a year.

Everyone associated with Petri was amazingly responsive, compassionate, hard working, and professional. on 12/22/12 in the afternoon, I smelled gas and called the gas company. The leaks were judged dangerous and the guys couldn't fix them after a serious effort. My gas was shut off the Saturday before Christmas when I expected to host the family for Christmas Eve and Christmas day, including over night guests. I had bought the food, had presents at my house, etc. I called my regular plumber who was closed for the weekend, then several from Angie's list. Jeanie from Petri called back quickly. She was genuinely sympathetic and concerned and arranged for Joe to come over at 8 the next morning. He arrived promptly, did a thorough inspection of the situation and explained to me what he saw. We discussed options and I felt he was being honest. He also discussed with me if there was anyway to save my Chrtistmas but it seemed impossible. The day after Christmas he showed up early in the morning and worked all day, then returned the next day determined to finish the job and test it. He ended up having succeeded in fixing everything so there was not even a tiny leak but it took 15 1/2 hours. You could not want a harder working, more knowledgeable or nicer plumber. Less than one week after losing gas service, I was able to get it restored. It was an expensive job, but a high quality job and excellent service.

I was told on the phone that it would be $89 dollars to show up and give a price, which would be applicable to any services provided. Upon arrival, the technician said that the diagnosis would cost $365, with any parts and labor extra. ,It's an awkward feeling to spend $89 dollars only to hear that it will cost another 3 times that before you can decide on how you will proceed. Perhaps this only applies to controls issues, but ask first! That being said, the technician was courteous, knowledgeable, able to explain and even demonstrate the problem. There were a few issues with my boiler and he sorted them out accurately and fixed the problem. I have already recommended them and would use them again but only for complicated problems. Their cost puts them way out of range for "handyman" type fixes.

Very professional. Came on a Sunday (which carried a surcharge), but worked efficiently and quietly so as not to disturb my 3-year-old. Job came with a 1-year warranty. After repairs, left workplace in excellent condition. My only negative comment was price, but the job was significant and it was Sunday. Accordingly, we were probably charged market price. Finally, there is an 8% discount for Angie's List users, so mention Angie's List.

Overall, everything went very well.

Repair man came early morning on Saturday and found the problem within minutes (the pig tail was clogged). From there he efficiently fixed the issue and did a complete cleaning. He cleaned up the area, and left the boiler room in the same condition he walked into. Very satisfied with the work, and have no problem recommending to others.

Overall I cannot praise the Petri company & their installer "Arsen" enough. I am now a Petri user for all my Plumbing & Heating from this day forward.

We originally called for a quote on changing from oil to gas heating. Michael came over and explained our options. We had just moved into our house and had a lot of questions about general plumbing things. Michael answered all my questions and showed me how to do simple plumbing maintenance things around the house. We ultimately decided not to switch to gas, but used Petri to fix a gas leak in our dryer connection. This review, however, is for the plumbing emergency we had today. We woke up to two inches of water in our finished basement. We called Petri and they said they would send someone over immediately. Joe was there in about 15 minutes. Our sewage had backed up. And we couldn't shopvac fast enough to keep up. Joe snaked our sewage line and had us flowing again in no time. Every interaction we have had with Petri has been professional and all the work they have done has been done right. I would definitely recommend this company.

Excellent service. Responded immediately. Work completed 24 hours after initial contact. Also made referral to a tile person who also did excellent work.

The whole experience went extremely well. I initially contacted Petri in the evening by email & explained the problem. They replied very quickly & I received a call early the next morning about scheduling an appt. Joe the tech from Petri came that afternoon. He clearly explained what he needed to check & he was professional & throrough. The thermostat did need replacing and the work.was completed quickly. Although this was a relatively small job, I was satisfied with the company's response and the work done, & would consider using them in the future for ongoing boiler maintenance etc.

During a routine gas meter replacement, Con Ed found two gas leaks in the pipes, turned off the gas, and told me to call a plumber to fix them. When I called Petri, the first person I spoke to was Jeannie, who was extremely kind and accommodating. The next morning, exactly at 9am (I had been told to expect the plumber between 9 and 10) Joe appeared, and, like Jeannie, was amazingly kind, accommodating, competent and professional. He assessed the situation, told me what I had to do for him to be able to test the line for leaks, gave me many alternatives for best and worst case situations, and after testing helped me make a decision on how to proceed. Then he fixed the leaks. He's done a great job, and I'll call them again with total confidence whenever I need more work done.

After they attempted to cancel just hours before, a while later they called us back to say they actually found someone who would be much later to arrive. In exchange for our troubles they offered a $25 rebate which is really nothing but we didn't want to re-book with another plumber after taking a day off to wait for them - its obvious that they know you probably won't cancel at this point thus the very minimal refund offer of $25. He was a nice guy and knew what he was doing, the job was probably as simple as humanly possible, he changed the two shower heads and a faucet, taking about 15 minutes - so a firsthand account of the quality of their work is not available in this review. He was there a total of about 30 minutes because we discussed a future more intensive job we needed done. They charged us $267 for 30 minutes of time and a very simple job. That included the $89 service charge added to every job and the $25 rebate fyi. Additionally, a quote of $1500 was offered up for the more intensive job of replacing one shower on/off handle which requires taking some of the wall off - a 4 hour job according to them but one that has since been estimated to be 2-3 hours by two other plumbers. Also, he wasn't even sure they could waive the additional $89 service charge on a $1500 job! Overall, even with the attempted last-minute cancellation, I'm sure they probably do good work but the pricing is astronomical and the nickel and diming service fee is another irritant.

From the moment I called Petri, which I found on Angie's List, I sensed that I was dealing with a professional organization. Joe came to the house in during the time we set up. He explained in detail what the issue was and did the repair quickly. He also provided me guidance on work that I might want to do in the future. Professional. Skillful. I highly recommend this company.

victor was my service tech the past few times. He takes the time to explain how things work and what to look for.

I want to state upfront that the cost of the work done included $150 for their priority customer plan. It was completely optional and having known about if from past experience, I was the one to request it. The actual work was $345 ( $40 discount due to the service plan). Victor arrived within the two hour window and called an hour prior to confirm arrival time. When he arrived he was professional and courteous, even acknowledging that he remembered servicing the system previously. Although it was a Saturday, the additional fee was waived because I went ahead with the service. A nice gesture on the part of Petri indicating that they recognize that many of us work Monday through Friday with Saturday being our only day to have repairs done without taking time off. Thank you Petri! My system was cleaned, the chimney base was cleaned, controls were checked, thermostat repaired, and several other services performed in order to ensure it will be in working order when heating season arrives. I live in an older home and have had issues with leaking "radiators/valves" for the past 12 years. In addition to the furnace tune up, all of my radiators were examined and a preliminary assessment made regarding what the issues are. Rather than try to add the additional services immediately, I was told that it would be best to reassess the issues during heating season so that a more precise evaluation could be done. Clearly the goal is to solve the problem and not upsell the customer. Victor explained everything that was done and gave a very loose estimate of what it would potentially cost to have the leakage issue resolved in the future. In addition, he answered several questions I had about other jobs completely unrelated to the heating issue. Again, his honesty was very much appreciated especially related to an on demand hot water heater. Would I recommend Petri to others. Absolutely! This is very obviously a company that prefers to cultivate clients rather than make as much money as possible from a single visit. Are they the least expensive, frankly, no. What I have found is that you get what you pay for. What ever work they have done for me in the past was done right the first time, issues resolved. As a matter of fact, Victor was right. He did service my heating system previously. That was on 2007 (5 years ago). Since then I have had no issues which is unprecedented with my particular furnace. Prior to 2007 I would have yearly problems. Thank you Victor and thank you Petri. You have been and will continue to be my "go-to" plumbing problem solver!
