I have a GE refrigerator that is 44 years old - it's the original that was installed when my building was constructed. As far as I know, it has never been repaired, and worked just fine until last month. Overnight, the temperature of both the freezer and refrigerator went up drastically - to about 40 degrees in the freezer and 55 in the refrigerator section. Notwithstanding the advice given separately by both the building's super and porter - that I should buy a new one because it wouldn't be worth repairing, due to its age and because parts would be unavailable, I wanted to attempt it. I hope to do a complete renovation of the kitchen in a few years, so this didn't seem a good time to buy a new refrigerator. I called Accurate Appliance and learned that they would charge $65 to diagnose the problem if no repair could be made, or I chose not to do it. If a repair was done, the $65 would be applied to the cost of the repair. That seemed fair enough, and worth it to find out for sure if the super and porter were right or not. The only problem I encountered with my experience was getting the woman who answers the phone and schedules repairs to make an appointment for me. She was of the same mind as my super, i.e., that the refrigerator wasn't worth repairing. She informed me that the compressor had probably failed, and that Accurate doesn't repair them because of the high cost. She obviously meant well, and was trying to save me the $65, but thank goodness I persisted because her knowledge of repairs was only second hand and very limited. When I finally got an appointment, the 2 men who came were reasonably on time. They diagnosed my problem as simply a worn out evaporator fan motor. They had a replacement in the truck, installed it, tested the refrigerator again, and were finished in 20 minutes. They were very professional, efficient and pleasant. The total cost was $185, a bargain compared to the $1,200 or so it would have cost me to buy a new one, including tax, delivery and installation. One fellow told me that he's seen other GE's last this long - that the old ones were made much better than they are today, and that with this repair, it might well outlast a new one, had I bought one instead. It's been about 6 weeks since the repair, and so far it's still running like a top. It's even quieter than it was before. All in all, the experience was extremely worthwhile and I'm completely satisfied with the service. I would definitely recommend this company.

Honest assessment of a problem with our washing machine, which was jumping around as if posessed. Explained what the problem was, estimated $350 to fix, advised us that this would not be money well spent - would be better to buy a new one.If we need appliance repair going forward, would give them first shot at it.

Overall it went fine; there was one quirk which was that they outsourced the installation to a local guy, which was a bit cumbersome in coordinating it, but otherwise it went fine.
Description of Work: The keypad on our microwave had stopped working, and I appreciated Accurate Appliance's advice to buy a new one at pretty much the cost that it would take to repair the old one (I felt that they were being honest when they told me this). They took the old microwave away and installed the new one, and removed all trash. The new one works fine with one aesthetic exception - the plastic over the new keypad is loose.

Refrigerator had stopped cooling over the weekend. I cleaned out the bottom of dust and cat hair and left it for the day Monday hoping that would solve the problem. On returning home at 3:30 Monday afternoon it had still not cooled. I called Accurate Appliance (as found through Angie's List) at 3:45 p.m. The woman who answered was thorough in her questions and said I could expect someone in the morning I indicated that if there was any possible way to do it, that afternoon would be preferable but I understood if no one could come until the next day (which would have meant not going to work!). I received a call ten minutes later indicating that the repair person would be there within half an hour. They arrived as promised, diagnosed the problem within ten minutes (an interior blower fan), left and got the part, came back in fifteen minutes and fixed it. They were neat and clean, polite and absolutely professional in every way.

It went very well. A few weeks after he was there, I noticed water on the floor and called them to have him come back. He tightened the door at no charge. I have had no problems since (this was 8 months ago.) He was very pleasant and explained if the problem continued, I would need a new gasket, which is no surprise, as the dishwasher is very old. So far, no problem.
Description of Work: I have an old dishwasher and after a few years, one or more springs break. It's a simple job but needs a professional. Accurate came as scheduled, told me what it would cost. It seems like a lot to replace two springs but I knew from the past, this is the standard charge. The service person put in two new springs and gave a 3-month guarantee. He also noticed that the dishwasher had shifted and was scraping a cabinet door when the dishwasher opened, so he remounted it. This was a great help. I hadn't realized it was possible to remount the dishwasher this way and prevent further scraping of the cabinet door!

Two repair guys showed up, both very courteous, the older guys seemed to be training in the younger one and he definitely knew what he was doing. Springs were quickly replaced and it's still working fine almost 6 months later. I mentioned that the gas was not flowing well to a burner on the stove and he quickly fixed the issue with a safety pin - no charge! I have used other appliance repair services in Brooklyn / Staten Island and these guys are the best, hands down.

My GE fridge went warm. The freezer stayed cold, but the fridge portion went up to 60 degrees. I called Accurate Appliance Repair first thing in the am. I spoke w/ a very professional and friendly woman named Virginia. We worked together to schedule a time that was convenient for me to have the repairmen come to my home. The two repairmen (John and Eric) were punctual, very professional, and friendly. They assessed the situation and told me exactly what was wrong w/ my fridge. The defrost disc had pretty much exploded (looked like it anyway). Which caused frost to build up and not allow cold air to get to the fridge. They told me EXACTLY what was involved to fix the situation. They gave me the price, then said that they could fix it on the spot. These guys were fantastic! They worked well as a team, they were quick and efficient, they cleaned up after they were done. They are on the ball!Of course we always hope we never have to call repairmen to fix our appliances...but stuff happens...and next time any appliance breaks down on me I'm DEFINITELY calling this company again. Excellent experience overall!

My oven wasn't getting any hotter than 250 degrees. Called Accurate Appliance on a Tuesday afternoon and was given an appointment for the upcoming Thursday morning. (The repair wasn't any more urgent for me so that was fine.) In making the appointment, I did specify that the repair had to be completed by 11:30 a.m. On Thursday morning, Accurate's receptionist called at 9 a.m. on the dot to confirm that the repair person was headed my way. Anthony showed up less than an hour later, was pleasant, professional, diagnosed the problem — the electronic ignition was on its last legs and needed to be replaced — and explained it in a clear manner. Fortunately he had the replacement piece with me. He finished and was out the door before 11 a.m. Would definitely use them again. Price? Don't know what others might have charged for the same job, but it didn't seem unreasonable. (Replacement piece itself sells for approx. $25 online.)

We recently bought a house with a very old Caloric brand wall oven. Over the summer we never turned it on, but in Sept we tried to use it and found it wouldn't turn on at all. An appliance repair guy from a major appliance chain came by as a favor and said he thought it was thermostat and would try to order it. Later he said it was not possible to get the part, the oven was too old. I called another appliance place on the recommendation of a friend and was told the part could be special ordered but would take 3 weeks-3 months and also cost $350. Finally I looked on Angie's List and chose Accurate. I was told they had the part in stock and gave me a price $100 less than the other company. The lady on the phone was super nice - Joe who came to fix it (twice! I missed his first visit) was a really friendly and efficient guy... the whole experience was very nice and the work is waranteed for 3 months.

My experience with Accurate was great. The technician showed up on time, was very courteous and explained the process of the drain clog to me very clearly. The technician showed me each step he took so that I could perform the same process if the drain ices up again. He was able to de-ice the drain quickly and cleanly using a pot of boiling water and a turkey baster. He also installed a copper wire that he wrapped around the heating coil down to the drain to further prevent the drain from clogging. I felt the price charged was reasonable for the service provided. I would definitely use Accurate again.
Description of Work: I have a Viking fridge/bottom-mount freezer that was collecting significant amounts of ice on the floor of the freezer, which would spread from the back of the unit to the front & eventually leak out the front onto the floor. After some research on the Internet, I determined it was due to a clogged drain in the back of the unit, likely due to a buildup of ice. To fix the problem, I would need the back panel and ice maker on the freezer removed, and also to disconnect power to the appliance. The clog would then need to be cleared by melting the ice that had formed. After the clog was cleared, the freezer unit would need to be reassembled and power restored to the appliance.

My old (at least 11 years old; probably about 15) Magic Chef refrigerator was not cooling. Anthony and Eric arrived the same day I called, in just a couple of hours. Their diagnosis (and they checked with their office on their cell and checked a couple of readings on a small instrument) was that frost/ice had built up in the back of the frost free refrigerator. They replaced the defrost timer, and told me to leave the refrigerator turned off for 24 hours, then turn it back on, and 24 hours later it should be working.I ended up turning it back on after 12 hours, since it was an extremely hot day and the interior temperature of the refrigerator must have been at least 75 degrees. But, 24 hours later, it still wasn't cooling well, (the freezer was making ice but the rest of the refrigerator wasn't as cold as it should have been) plus I didn't hear the same sounds the refrigerator used to make. Accurate Appliance sent 2 men back the same day when I called this in. They told me I had turned the refrigerator back on too soon; and I should turn it off for a full 24 hours. I didn't have time to go through this till Tuesday , 6/21, when I left it off for a full 24 hours - actually 29 hours, since I was out that day. 24 hours after that, and also today, it still is not cooling properly. So, replacing the defrost timer didn't do the trick.I think when I told the repairmen that the refrigerator wasn't making the same sounds it used to, that may have been a clue that it wasn't just the defrost timer; it may have been the compressor and/or the fan. I decided not to spend any more time and money on this, but instead to get a new energy efficient refrigerator. This company responded very promptly, and the people on the telephone as well as the repairmen who came to look at my refrigerator were very courteous, professional, and friendly. Unfortunately, their repair did not work.
Description of Work: Replaced a defrost timer on a more than 11 year old Magic Chef refrigerator that wasn't cooling.
