Shleppers Moving & Storage

Overall, the moving experience was excellent. The movers arrived early (first time we have ever had movers come early!), were professional, kind, and super fast. They took great care with all of our items and were extremely friendly. For that reason, I tipped well and would highly recommend the company. Our initial interactions with the company via phone and email were not as pleasant. As the only company around with availability, we felt forced to use their services because we were locked into moving during this timeslot with our building. The cost was outrageously expensive for a 2 hour move of basically 4 pieces of furniture in elevator buildings. We have done this with other companies and paid between $300-$400 for identical services. Also, we needed confirmation that our building received the appropriate insurance papers and Shleppers did not reply until around 4pm the day before the move. I tried contacting them 5 times during the day to figure out why our building didn't receive the forms and then finally I received a call from someone just "confirming" the move - which I had to tell him could not take place without their office submitting the paperwork! It finally went through after 5pm the day before the move but we were nervous it wouldn't happen until then. Needless to say, the move itself was great and I would recommend these services to others.

From start to finish, Schleppers made moving a much more positive experience than I would have otherwise thought possible. When Derek came over to give me an estimate, he was in my apartment for about 15 minutes and he was pleasant and professional. He was also very responsive when I contact him several time with follow-up questions. The movers themselves were on time and were also very pleasant and professional throughout the move. -They worked very efficiently and yet, they also managed to smile if I had a question. --And by the end of the move, I was asking if Schleppers sells their logo-ed shirts and hats. That's how good the experience was. That said, I would recommend at least keeping some bottled water on hand if you're not moving the contents of a large apartment and the distance you're moving to isn't that great. Additionally, when you see how hard these movers work, you should be motivated to tip them well because they absolutely earn it. I would most definitely use Schleppers again and I've already highly recommended them to friends and family.

They were absolutely fantastic. Starting with dealing with Chris on the phone to organize the move was without problems. He coordinated the pickup with the local NYC mover who was storing the items. The crew who picked up the items in NYC was constantly in touch with us by phone and email keeping us to date on the progress. I wish I could remember the name of the head of the crew but he was wonderful as was the driver, Hector, and David. They assembled what we asked to be assembled without questioning us. Very professional team of 3 guys. I was extremely pleased and will definitely use them again for moves and highly recommend them to anyone.

From the first appointment to the very end, the team was fantastic. We have moved many times but this was our first large move from a house so we wanted a professional company to take care of it. I liked the fact that the estimate was based upon the actual move of your belongings and not an hourly estimate. The team arrived on time and the foreman immediately introduced all six guys that would be helping us that day. Then the entire team walked the house from attic to basement and reviewed everything that we needed including all of our special requests. Since we were downsizing 75% of our belongings were going into storage and the rest into our apartment. The team paid attention to every detail and made sure they packed the truck according to each of our destinations. After the walk through they got started immediately with preparing and packing our furniture. For the items going to the apartment, they used their own blankets since they would then set up the furniture at the new place. For the items going to storage we provided moving blankets since we wanted the items packed/prepared for our next move. The team took great care in packing our furniture for storage and made sure it was going to stay clean and secure. They disassembled tables and beds to make sure that everything would fit nicely in our storage unit and were very careful with our fragile items. We had a very large piece of framed artwork that is very meaningful to us however we did not know how it should be packed and protected. The team took the extra time to pack it as if it were their own and made sure it would be protected in transit and in storage. Upon arrival to the storage unit they unloaded the truck and organized our unit considering every detail. We were nervous that it would not all fit however they took care of it all and left us with room to spare! At the next stop, they unloaded and set up our apartment exactly as we requested and made sure they did not leave until we were satisfied. I should also mention that the price I was given at estimate was the exact price I paid, this is a big deal since often times moving companies try to add on additional charges at the end. The team we had was Humberto, Marlow, Simyon, Horacio, Carlos M and Sam, and we could not have been happier with the job they did. They worked very well together and made sure we were comfortable with the process the entire time. I can highly recommend this company, at least take the time to call and do the in home estimate, it is worth it! I read some reviews prior to hiring them and people complained about the tipping process and all I can say is that it is truly up to you as the customer. At the end of the job we did give the team a tip because we were so happy with the service they provided. If you are going to tip someone to bring you a plate of food wouldn't you want to tip the people who are moving and taking care of all your personal belongings? It only makes sense.

$1400 FROM HOME TO STORAGE FACILITY - $1100 FROM STORAGE TO NEW RESIDENCE

They were great. They were on time, helpful, and the service was just very good. This was for a last minute move and they were able to fit me in. The cost was very competitive.

We were very happy with the service. They were very professional, accommodating, and they were very careful with the furniture. They stuck by their estimate and the service was just wonderful. Instead of sending a big truck they sent two smaller trucks due to our driveway and that made the move go just that much smoother. The price was competitive as we received other estimate's. They came early for the move and delivered quickly as well.

They were fantastic. They were very responsive, worked hard, and they stuck to the quote. I have raved to everyone about their service. I was very happy that the estimate did not go up and they even sent five guys for the work. I received two other quotes and the flat rates from the other two companies were about 20% higher than this quote. They were charming and respectful to work with. I would absolutely use them again.

The movers pestered my husband about their tip from the beginning. Many of our items did not arrive in our new apartment. The mover said they handed us a box with valuable items from my vanity which was a lie. Our kitchen silverware never arrived (they dumped it in the garbage) and our bed was put together without its major screws (it almost collapsed on us and injured my husband).

Horrible sales, great moving crew. First we would like to give props to our crew, who led by Garcia, did everything to get the job done. Nicholas Rodriguez was the relocation consultant who met my wife. Apparently Nicholas was a mover himself for 15 years, but somehow missed an entire room on the final contract. We should have realized the mistake, but it was difficult to catch being that he sent my wife 5 proposals within 10 emails just minutes minutes apart due to "computer problems". When Garcia and his crew arrived, he recognized the underestimate almost immediately. Of course, Nicholas was no where to be found on that day, and we still have not heard back from him after leaving him a couple of messages. In the end, Schleppers needed to send a 2nd truck to accommodate the oversight. Austin Lewis, Sales Manager, finally got back to us basically saying the error was our fault due to the fact that they sent the inventory list for us to sign off on (again, we received 5 of them in 10 emails in a matter of minutes). We are currently waiting on Austin to get back to us about the additional costs of the move from their storage to our new home (he was supposed to get back to me at the end of last week, but we have heard nothing). I probably would have written something a bit more negative, but they still have us hostage with all of our belongings in storage. Tip to Schleppers: Just because someone has years of experience as a mover, it doesnt qualify them to be in sales or sales management.

This was not a good experience. They scrapped the walls. They were unbelievably inefficient. It took all day to move everything and it was only an 8 block move. I had them wearshoe covers while moving things in, and they did not even take them off when they went outside. The movers were rude to my sister. The boxes were clearly marked as to which room they were going to, but they did not put them in the correct rooms. They did not bring any supplies with them either, like tape or boxes. We ended up moving most of the stuff ourselves since they took forever. They were not neat, unprofessional, and overpriced.

I had an excellent experience with Shleppers. It is my only experience with Shleppers so I can only comment on the team that I interacted with. Derek gave an estimate which was fair and transparent. there were not surprise price alterations or adjustments--it was a "guaranteed" price as he said it would be. Derek was professional and punctual. The moving team led by Hassan was great. They were clearly professionals. They showed up on time, they gave good estimates as to how long the project would take to complete, they were courteous and respectful. They had an excellent "client service" attitude. On balance it was a seamless experience and I would use them again without hesitation.

My move with Shlepper?s was nothing less than a nightmare. I booked my move a full month in advance and it was confirmed the day prior. I informed Shlepper?s upon arranging the move that I could only use the elevator in my old building until 2pm, and in the new building until 5pm. This is standard for NYC apartments. The moving truck was meant to arrive between 8-9am. I finally called at 9:15 since the truck has not yet arrived. I then called again at 9:30. Finally at 9:40 I received a call back notifying me of ?bad news? ? the moving truck had broken down on the way to my apartment. Another truck had also broken down, so there was no back up truck to come for my move. Rather than assuring me that they would fix the problem, the solution that Shlepper?s provided was to postpone my move. As a professional moving company in NYC, they should know that changing moving dates and times is incredibly challenging given building and elevator requirements. Nonetheless I called both buildings and begged for more time ? which I simply could not have. After 3 horrible hours of yelling, threatening a lawsuit and tears, a moving truck and movers finally showed up. In that time, I also began packing my belongings myself in my car ? that is not why I chose a professional mover, so that I could carry large and heavy boxes. It should not have taken extreme fury on my part for Shlepper?s to find a solution. They could have rented a UHaul. They could have taken a 2nd truck off a larger move (which is ultimately what they did). They should have called me proactively when a problem occurred. They should have provided feasible solutions at 9:30am rather than putting the burden back on me, their customer, to figure something out. The sales manager, Austin, was incredibly condescending and refused to let me speak to someone above him. The only silver lining to this experience was the movers themselves. The 4 men who finally arrived at 12pm were polite, apologetic and worked hard and fast to get me moved on time. They did not break a thing and they did everything in their power to make the situation right. These men are the only reason why I am not suing Shlepper?s for their HORRIFIC customer service and the terrible manner in which they handled my move. I will never, ever use this company again and I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for your moving company.

The person that I spoke to on the phone was reasonable. She helped me a lot. They explain everything to you. I would recommend them. They are great. They were very helpful and professional. Nothing was damaged. They got all the work done in four hours.

My move went extremely well. In my opinion, it was seamless. The movers did arrive about 40 minutes early on the day of my move, but I was okay with that, as I was prepared for them. They commended me on how well I had packed up my studio. I think it helped them with speed because they had my studio emptied out before I knew it. All three of the movers were exceptionally nice and professional. They took off for Hoboken and actually beat me there since there wasn't any traffic on a Saturday morning. Even though I didn't make it there first I had told them my boyfriend would be there, and they began unloading even though I had not yet paid for the move. They were very efficient and skilled, not to mention patient. Since I was moving into my boyfriend's apartment, they had to maneuver around existing furniture, etc., but they were nothing but professional and good-natured. The move went by so quickly and easily, I couldn't believe it. I felt so relieved and grateful for the entire experience. I called at least 8 movers (both in Manhattan and NJ) when I was preparing to move, and I ultimately went with Shleppers because of the comfort I felt after meeting with the on-site estimator who came to my studio prior to the move. His professionalism and competency put me at ease. A co-worker had also recommended the company to me after she'd had a great experience moving within Manhattan. They were one of the more expensive moving companies, but to me, it was worth it. I was prepared to pay more to get what I hope would be exceptional service. I feel like that's exactly what I ended up getting. The cost of the move was $690, which was the exact price they quoted me from the beginning, so there were no surprises. I also tipped each of the moving guys $50. I was prepared to tip them that amount, and they all did a great job, so I felt good tipping that amount. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend using Shleppers.

We initially contacted four different moving companies to get estimates. Shleppers came in at $800 cheaper than the others, which had us curious and a bit concerned, but for that amount, we figured we could deal with anything that got broken. The field rep was excellent, and they included someone in the moving day crew specifically to disassemble and reassemble a heavy treadmill. On the day of the move, the 5-man crew showed up right on time, introduced themselves, and got right to work. In the space of two hours, they had everything moved out of the house and the truck loaded. Likewise, everything was unloaded and put into the proper rooms at the new house. They were professional and polite throughout, and more than once they asked if we wanted anything moved or repositioned. Nothing was broken, nothing was lost, and everything went as smoothly as could be hoped, minimizing what could otherwise be a rather stressful day. The price was cheaper than the other competitors, but the service didn't suffer one bit. We were very pleased overall.

Overall it went really well. Carlos and his crew were very punctual and moved the items quickly and carefully. Despite being one man down, (we arranged for 4 men and 3 showed up--the 4th guy was accidentally left behind at the breakfast stop in the Bronx...oops!) They worked well together and accomplished the move in good time. They were friendly, and quite respectful of us and our possessions. Polly, my wife was coordinating, and she was treated super well by all on the crew. Carlos and crew deserve to be recognized for their hard work.

This was my first experience with a moving company and it was just so-so. The woman I worked with over the phone was initially very nice and patient and the actual movers seemed to overall do their job well enough. However, there were a few things that went poorly. I had scheduled a multi-day move; moved out of my apartment on a wednesday and moved into my new place on a saturday. Overall the price was a bargain and it was a total plus that they included storage at no extra cost. However, on the actual day of the move, the guys showed up about 4 hours late. Wasn't too upset about it since all I had planned that day was to move. The guys were super nice and moved quickly but I had to point out to the movers that some of the boxes labeled "fragile" were stacked well below other heavier boxes, which they promptly corrected. That didn't instill much trust and I didn't appreciate having to inspect their work constantly. Luckily nothing broke. On the Saturday, the guys were again late. After their delivery window passed I called the company asking how long until the movers showed up. Ends up my move wasn't even booked on their schedule for the day! That's when I kind of lost my cool. After a lot of back and forth, they were finally able to get a crew together to move my stuff. Luckily Philly is not too far from New York, but the movers still didn't arrive until 6pm when they were supposed to be here between 9-11am. The biggest inconvenience was that my sister had come from out of town to help me move. She was only here for the day, most of which was wasted waiting for the movers. After the guys finally arrived the actual move went smoothly. I later complained to customer service. There was a lot of back and forth over the next two weeks but eventually the company reimbursed me for their mistakes. The thing that irritated me the most was the woman who I worked with over the phone to get my move scheduled (and whom I spoke to many times and exchanged many emails) never even sent a message to apologize.

They knocked a tree limb off and the boxes were not delivered neatly. They did some of the things they were supposed to do but I don't think that I would use them again. They were in a hurry. They were pushing me to get to my home two days early per their schedule and then they did not show up until the original date.

They were fast. There was nothing that was broken or misplaced during the move. There was one thing that I didn't like at all. At the end of the move there was a lot of pressure to provide a gratuity. I was planning to but they did not even give me a chance to think about it. They basically said that it was normal and there was a little bit of strong-arming to assure that they got a gratuity. I did not like that too much and it was a little uncomfortable. I have moved since then and I did not use them.

They were just basic movers. There are no superlatives to describe them. They are responsive. They were not at all punctual.

They were excellent. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. I did not have any problem with them. I had a very positive experience with them. They were very kind and polite. They were very careful and considerate. I would recommend them to others. They were reasonable in price as well. The quality of work they did was excellent.

I had used Schlepper's in the past on several occasions, typically without incident. After our most recent experience in which company representatives damaged our apartment and furniture, lied to us repeatedly, lost an expensive piece of furniture and subjected us to their onerous claims process to then offer us a measly $12 to replace this piece of furniture, I will never use Schleppers again and I urge you to similarly avoid them at all costs. Please feel free to contact me and I will give additional details and names of the specific personnel we dealt with on this matter. Our apartment flooded in May, requiring us to move out while the floors were re-done, walls, repainted, etc. Schleppers did the initial move - they packed up our entire apartment and sent it to a storage unit, where it should have remained until we moved back in, about six weeks later. The move back into the apartment was an unmitigated disaster. Although we had requested (and paid for) the men to un-pack all of our kitchen goods, they hightailed it out of there without doing so. But not before damaging the newly painted walls by banging furniture against it, scratching the floors by dragging furniture across it, showing up an hour late, and being generally rude when we informed them that they had somehow failed to un-pack our bed. (The thing that we were most excited to return to after our six week involuntary vacation). They went to check their truck and the bed was not there either. They left under the pretense that they were returning to the storage unit to search for the bed. They never returned. For four hours following their departure, we engaged in a series of frustrating telephone calls with their office trying to track down where the movers (and our bed!) were. We spoke to people in their office and customer service department and each time, we were told that the movers were on their way to the storage unit; that they were stuck in traffic on their way to the storage unit; that they were on their way to the storage unit but could not contact the actual movers, etc. Finally, I was able to wrangle the foreman's cell phone number from one of the office-workers to see why we were waiting at home (missing work) for an additional 4 hours waiting for them to return. I called the foreman and, lo and behold, the movers never went back to check the storage unit. They instead headed directly to another job in lower Manhattan. No one had gone to the storage unit to see what happened to our bed; and no one did until about 9 PM that evening when they told us that even if they found it, they could not deliver it until the following morning. They did not find the bed. They told us that to be reimbursed for it, we would have to go through their claims process which required us to submit 3 estimates from "professionals" of the lost value. I'm not sure how many professionals there are that make a living valuing beds less than a year old, so we submitted the receipt for the bed as well as a link listing the bed's price. Four months later, we receive an email from their claims department offering us $12 for the bed. (We had paid for full insurance for the move.) A perfectly insulting ending to an already unfortunate episode. At every juncture beginning with the move-out, the people we dealt with were rude, unhelpful, and at many times, wholly incompetent.
