This is the second time I have called on Van Dusen. A detailed estimate and contract was submitted in timely manner, and I was kept informed about when the work would be performed. The price was very reasonable. The crew were competent, friendly and informative, very quiet, protected the grounds and vegetation, and did a thorough cleanup. I hardly knew they were here, except that the finished roof looks amazing! It was scraped, caulked, sealed, painted and top-coated, all within the space of two short days' work. I would recommend Van Dusen Exteriors highly to anyone.

Our neighbor recommend Vandusen Exteriors to us and I am so happy that she did. Everyone was so professional from the start. We received an estimate the day after Wayne came out to take a look at the job. He gave us examples of the different types of decking that I had asked about along with the pricing. Everyone in the office was a delight to work with. The job was started and completed on time by a crew that was professional and hard working. They even worked in the rain! We wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.

Van Dusen replaced 2 windows (1 large picture window and a smaller door sidelight) and repaired 1 window. I got several quotes prior to starting the job and chose Van Dusen because not only were they the lowest quote, but their quote also seemed to be the most put together. Prior to accepting the quote, I had several questions that were answered very promptly including a return visit to confirm that they could match the color of the trim. The work itself was done very professionally. They took care to prevent getting debris on the bushes outside and furniture inside. The main picture window seemed slightly challenging due to the size of the window, but they made it look easy. Observing their work, I could tell that they took pride in what they did. They worked very efficiently getting the job done. It took about half a day to get all the work done. I noticed some peer checking of each others work to ensure that everything was completed properly. At the end of the job, the work was reviewed to ensure it was performed correctly. They reviewed the work with me and went over functionality and other aspects of the windows. Some blinds that were taken down before the job were put back up after the job. They cleaned up afterwards and left the area looking good. Overall, it was a very good experience working with Van Dusen and I would recommend them.

Clay, NY / June, 2016 – After my roof developed a leak, during the late fall of 2015, I scoured the internet to find (3) local roofing companies for an estimate (Positive reviews outweighed my decision as opposed to any discount offers). Of the three companies that stopped out, Dan from VanDusen Exteriors was the only one that actually climbed up on the roof to access the job. VanDusen Exteriors was not the least expensive, but I felt comfortable signing a contract with them because of their online reviews. With winter approaching, I felt that it was too late in the season to re-roof so I asked that the job be completed during the summer of 2016. Dan offered to make temporary repairs to cover me through the winter months and stopped out on three occasions to make repairs at no cost to me. They even stopped out during the winter and offered to put salt blocks on the roof, at no charge to me, to control ice buildup. Fortunately, this service was not needed. On the morning of June, 17th, a crew of (17) arrived and completed the re-roof of my home in just over (4) hours. They first covered the front and rear decks with tarps and placed plywood in front of the garage door to protect it from falling debris before removing the old ridge vent, asphalt shingles, underlayment and 3/8" CDX plywood. They then installed new 1/2" CDX plywood, painted drip edges and 6 feet of Winterguard Ice & Water Underlayment. The remainder of the roof received Raptor Roof Synthetic Underlayment. They then installed CertaintainTeed Landmark Architectural Asphalt Shingles (30 yr. warranty) a CertainTeed (rolled, low-profile) Ridge Vent and sealed the vent pipe boot and furnace flu flashing. They even painted the furnace flu black. After the crew finished cleaning up the debris, the foreman gave me a final inspection and showed me pictures that he had taken with his cell phone during various stages of installation (I’m still waiting for copies of those pictures). I received a written 20-year warranty against leakage due to their workmanship. I am an honest customer and am sharing my experience to help you decide which contractor to hire. If you’re looking to have any exterior work done to your home, do yourself a favor and get multiple estimates. Just make sure that one of those free estimates is from VanDusen Exteriors. I highly recommend them. (I will post the pictures taken on the day of installation when I receive them)

Could not have done a better job- efficient, professional. Excellent clean up on the day (which was snowing) came back to finish cleanup when snow was gone.

Working with Eric, Shannon, Cheyenne, and their awesome crew was a truly fabulous experience. We have never before or since met such a thoughtful and professional outfit. I'm sure we drove Eric a bit crazy because we took FOREVER to make our final decisions and commitment to the work. Eric and everyone remained extremely professional and courteous. Eric dropped off samples for our review more than once, and answered every question without hesitation. He worked hard to save us money on this large project and kept us informed about anticipated cost increases from the materials supplier. He worked with us on meeting deadlines to avoid those increases when possible. Now the crew...what can we say?! They also were awesome. Showed up on time and worked extremely hard and professionally. They started on a blisteringly hot July day and worked like crazy to get the tear-off done and the house sealed up before quitting for the night. They were very professional. Remarkably, they managed to do all this work in less than 2 weeks. I have never seen such a hard-working bunch of guys. Foreman Zach kept us informed all the way about what was going on. When it came time to remount our porch lights, he suggested that I might want to pick up some new lights because ours were showing some wear. I did so and the crew installed the new ones. Zach could have just had the crew re-install the old ones and I wouldn?t have been the wiser. I loved that he gave me the opportunity to have new lights installed. And, when we signed the initial contract, we forgot about the need to have the garage surround re-parged but Zach was able to work some of that in for us at the last minute. Paul, the carpenter, was wonderful - he had a system so that as he was installing one window, the crew was removing another so he could easily move on to that when he was finished with the first. Unfortunately, one of the doors arrived from the supplier damaged so we had to wait for it?s replacement to come (custom color) which took a bit but one day we arrived home and there was the correct door completely installed!! We had some very hot and some very rainy days during the work period but the Van Dusen crew never stopped and never complained. And, we never ever heard one single profanity from anyone on Eric?s crew. Eric and Shannon have built a professional and wonderful crew and business. Turns out my sister and brother-in-law (Capenos) also had Van Dusen Exteriors do their roof last year and had a similar wonderful experience! Kudos to everyone at Van Dusen for a great experience!! We only wish every contractor of every sort were half as professional as this outfit!!

I was scheduled several months after I accepted the estimate, but no deposit was required until a couple weeks before when it was time to order material (and select shingle). At the beginning of the job, the estimator, foreman (and his boss, I believe) met me and reviewed what had to be done. The foreman exchanged cell phone numbers with me in case anything came up during the day, since I had to leave for work. The work took just over two days, with a discussion of progress each day. On the last day, this included showing me photos of work in progress, damaged wood that was replaced, etc. They just finished last week, but it looks good!

Had gotten an estimate prior year, too late to do the job before winter, but he told me my leaking top roof would last through the winter. I did not contract for the job until the following spring, and he was booked until November. However, they showed up a couple of days early. Crew and foreman were great. They did a very good job and cleaned up beautifully. The door installation was not easy because of the age of the house but I am very pleased with them. Communication excellent, by phone and email. Hope to use when we replace the shingled roofs in a few years. The job was a little more than the estimate because some of the plywood needed replacing, but the cost per sheet was specified in the contract.

We actually got three quotes before choosing Van Dusen. The sales people from Van Dusen were not pushy, yet they were easy to get an appointment with and did show up on the date that was set. However, they were a little late for the first appointment and due to the fact it had gotten dark, had to reschedule and make a second appointment with us. They did apologize for this and stated it was due to being held up at another job. The ladies in the office were very helpful too and when it came down to time to schedule Shannon really took her time with me to answer some more questions and then gave me her personal phone number for follow up if I had any other questions. I also spoke to Cheyenne in the office several times during all this and found her to be extremely helpful. The team showed up on our scheduled installation date as planned. There were about 15 or so guys on the team all dressed in matching t-shirts. They worked all day and everyone seemed very friendly and focused on their tasks. The whole process seemed very organized. They removed all items that we had outside in the lawn, garden, and deck areas away from the house and covered the flowers and plants. The clean up was remarkable and ongoing. I saw a person make several trips around the house with a large magnet. We haven't found a single nail even in the garden areas to date. When they were finished, the foreman showed us what they had done and he explained with the pictures he had taken on his cell phone all of the process with removing the old roof, putting on new sheets of plywood, and adding a new roof vent. I liked that he was going to send me copies of the pictures. I haven't received them yet, but I plan to follow up with him soon to get them. Only a few days after the job was done, we had a VERY heavy rain storm. We were relieved that there were absolutely no leaks and all has been fine to date. One nice final gesture from this company was that a couple weeks or so after the roof was done, we received a nice little basket of baked goodies from them. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with Van Dusen and would definitely use them again, as well as, recommend them to our friends and other people. Thanks!!

Crew showed up at exactly the time I was told they would be there, got right to work, very coordinated and professional. Crew was cleaning as they worked and left my yard, decks and driveway cleaner than it was when they showed up. From the estimate through completion my options and the cost of each were presented honestly and assessments of the priority was also provided. I felt as though VanDuesen exteriors gave me all the information I needed to make the right decisions for my needs and budget and wasn't pushy at all. I'd highly recommend them for any exterior work.

The owner and his team are truly exceptionally at what they do - exteriors. The owner took considerable time to work with us to ensure we would be happy with the results. The workers are a great team! They would check with us to ensure as they went along that the work was meeting our expectations. They turned a 1950 ugly looking ranch into a charming little house almost cottage-like! We waited one year after they completed this work to see if it performed and looked as amazing as it did when they completed the job last year and it certainly does! Great professional people to do business with!

Wow! I was so impressed by the professionalism, courtesy and workman ship that this team provided. They were busy from the moment they got here until they left. The all said hello when they saw me and I was introduced to the foreman right away. They showed me exactly what they were going to do, stayed within in our budget and took pictures of the roof while they were working to show me how they were progressing. I would highly recommend Van Dusen Exteriors to anyone needing exterior work done on their homes.

They came with a crew of 15 guys and completed the entire job in 1 day. Their work was meticulous as was the clean-up. I would hire them again in an instant. Everything was absolutely perfect!

They came with a swat team of 14 men, as scheduled. (Materials delivered 45 minutes in advance by a man who came to the door and introduced himself.) The foreman and owner introduced themselves, the estimator came by and all were cheerful, professional and ready to work, and knowledgeable about the job. The foreman coordinated with me about details, and answered questions I had. He took photos of the work as it progressed and showed me. When I left, he gave me his cell phone # and responded to my call. He was courteous, personable, professional, proud of his work, and managed the team of workers well. The team on the roof and in the yard worked well and efficiently together. The foreman made decisions about matters as they came up, always with a mind to please me. His decisions were never about company time or money. The job was done several hours before the promised time. The foreman offered to email me the photos of the job for my records. The company followed up to make sure I was satisfied, and followed up with a thank-you-for-your-business. I couldn't be more happy with their work and the process. I felt fully at ease through--out.

I cannot say enough about VanDusen's professionalism or the high quality of their workmanship. When their salesperson came out to give us a quote, he was clear, thorough, and very professional. He explained everything and answered all my questions. I chose VanDusen over the other two bids I received because his thoroughness left me confident that I would receive quality workmanship. He offered options that the others did not, and was also the lowest bid! On the appointed day, the crew arrived exactly on time, and were in and out in about a day and a half. Their crew of about 12 men was well organized and well supervised. I had regular conversations with the foreman, who kept me informed every step of the way. They arrived exactly on time. They covered our flowerbeds, and tarped the whole area around the structures. They took great care not to do any harm, even taking the time to protect a bird's nest on a fence up against a wall, so as not to injure the baby birds in the nest. Along the way, there were a few minor needs that had not been covered in the bid, but they took care of them anyway, at no additional cost to us. If I ever have a need for any of the services VanDusen provides in the future, I will call them without hesitation. After all the horror stories you hear about roofers, VanDusen's crew was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I knew from the start that I was dealing with real professionals who knew their job and cared about quality. And of the three bids I got, they were the least expensive! Our house has aluminum siding, but our 22 windows are still wood-framed. In the near future, I plan to have all the windows aluminum-clad, and when the time comes, I won't bother to look elsewhere. I will simply call VanDusen.

We received bids from three area companies. We chose VanDusen based on price for scope of work.. This was the second roof VanDusen installed for us within four months time. As with the first roof, everything was fine. The conditions were rainy and cool, but work proceeded. Windows and siding were protected and the lawn as much as reasonable considering the amount of rain. Cleanup was good, especially with driveways on either side of the house. The foreman, Zack, was great to work with and kept us informed with what was going on and addressing our concerns. I knew that taking the roof down to the rafters would make a mess of crumbled shakes and asphalt shingle dust in the attic. It was every bit as dirty as I had imagined. Even though I had covered things that we wanted to keep, the wind moved some of the drop cloths when it was windy with the roof removed. In the end it was not too bad and the cleanup crew did the best they could to remove dust and debris from the attic. Everyone in the office was pleasant and easy to work with. This was our second positive experience with VanDusen Exteriors and we would hire them again.

We asked for bids from three area companies. Dan from VanDusen provided us with the bid that best fit our budget for the work that was to be performed. Our estimate was given 8/20/14 but the work was not scheduled until January. Dan accompanied the crew at the start of work and introduced me to the foreman, Zack. The crew faced horrible conditions with bitter cold winds that came relentlessly out of the west. Everyone remained positive and Zack did a terrific job of keeping me informed of the progress. The work went into a second day and the part of the roof that was not covered had plastic tarps in place to cover. It snowed that night but no time was lost because of the tarps. The job was finished the second day and photos were made available to see exactly what had been done. Two members came back in the spring to inspect the roof and pick up dropped nails with magnets once the snow melted. I had real misgivings about allowing this work to be done in the middle of winter. Had he been living, my father would have said to wait for warm weather so the shingles could adhere to one another and the built in adhesive could do its job. In the first days after work was completed, some of the shingles did have a ruffled appearance. But with the warmer days of spring, those shingles lay flat and you would never guess the roof was put on in winter. Dan and Zack assured me that roofing has become a year around business and I have come to believe them. We had a stubborn leak that previously occurred when wind was driven horizontally. Sometimes that leak occurred only once or twice a year. Zack acknowledged the issue and made sure that area was properly flashed. He promised to fix the problem, and to date, it has not recurred. Following the job completion we did have one area of ice buildup. It turns out that it was caused by improper venting at the soffit in the way the original roof was designed. Despite this, Zack and Dan came out and took care of it for us. It is this kind of customer service that caused us to feel confident in having VanDusen roof a second house for us. It will be reviewed separately. We expect that we will hire VanDusen for gutter replacement and proper venting of the one problem area. I cannot say enough positive words about the customer service provided by Zack and Dan. When you cannot (or will not in January) climb up on your own roof, they really made you feel connected to the project and informed about the progress. In addition, everyone in the office was pleasant and easy to work with.

This review was written by a family member: I wanted an estimate to repair a flat roof but I was given an estimate to replace it. I e-mailed them back that I only wanted it repaired and that if/when I have it replaced I want to change it to a pitched, metal roof and could they give me an estimate for that as well as an estimate to repair it. I haven't heard anything back from them yet. I'd still like to hear back from them, even if only to hear that they don't/won't repair it.
