A technician came and examined the system the Wednesday after the purchase which was made on Friday. He was there at the beginning of the scheduled window time which was appreciated as I was taking time off from work to be home for the service. After about 30 minutes he diagnosed the problem as being a bad contactor on the condenser unit. He said since my unit was on the older side they would have to track down the part, so he would have the office call me when they located it to schedule a return visit. They called the following day to inform me they had found the part and scheduled the repair for Monday morning. The same technician returned Monday morning, about 1-1/2 hours before my scheduled window (earlier was appreciated but had I not had people visiting, no one would have been home for the call since I went to work in the morning expecting to return home for the service). He replaced the contactor and while doing the repair noticed wiring that was a little suspect, so he repaired that too - again much appreciated. He told me the unit was functioning and I was all set and left. I decided to stick around for a little while to ensure the unit was in fact working. After 20 minutes I noticed that the condenser was operating as required, but the fan on the furnace was not shutting off and would continuously run unless I shut the circuit breaker off. I immediately called the office back and informed them of this issue. They said they would call the tech and have him call me back. He called me back 15 minutes later. He said the fan motor running didn't have anything to do with the condenser and was a separate issue and he would have the office call me to schedule an ADDITIONAL service call to have him come back out and look at it. Up until that point, I was totally satisfied with the service. They were prompt, responsive and the cost for services was completely in line with what I would expect. However, when I call to have a system repaired I expect the system to be FULLY operational before the tech leaves. If another part needed to be ordered, fine, that is understandable, but in this case, I had to be the one to tell the tech that the fan was not shutting off. He should have waited to make sure the system was operating properly before he left. If the tech had said he would return later today to diagnose the fan not shutting off, I would have been satisfied, but having the office call me to schedule another call? Unacceptable in my opinion. I've already been waiting over a week to have this repaired, I shouldn't have to wait another day or several days to have the tech come back out and then have the possibility of having to wait another day or several days to get whatever part they may need to repair the fan issue. I had hoped, and it seemed, I had found a company I would do repeat business with, but its unfortunate to say this company has now lost my business. I will contact another company to come and repair the fan issue.

I didn't particularly like the guy that came out. His intent was to sell me a new air conditioner. He was suppose to recondition my existing unit and I didn't feel good about it. He wanted $7000 for a new one, I wasn't going to make a decision about that and I didn't like his attitude. I spent $99 for his service.

Overall... I would give the service a B+ ... the service came in two parts, in the spring for the air conditioning then again in the fall for the furnace. The service for the furnace was great. The Technician took his time, cleaned and inspected everything. When he was done, I was told that the furnace was running at peek efficiently.....The air conditioning service was the same but somewhat less compressive... as the Technician was checking the supply and return air temperature. I noted that the air was only being cooled down by ~ 15 degrees (should be 20), the Tech kinda shrugged his shoulder and said the compressor was undersized (huh?)..... Still, the system worked faithfully all season

I had a leak that appeared to be coming from the supply line. I called for service and got an appointment within two days. I was given a 4 hour window for when the tech would arrive, noon to 4:00. I told the scheduler that I had to leave my house at 4:10 for my son's piano lesson, and was told not to worry, that the tech had to be out of my house by 4:00. I took the afternoon off from work to be there during the noon - 4:00 window. The day of the appointment, I had not heard from the tech by 3:30 and was concerned that he would not be able to diagnose the problem and complete the repair in time for me to get to my son's piano lesson on time. I called Farrell Brothers and was told that someone would be at my house within 10 minutes, or 3:40. The tech arrived at about 3:45, and diagnosed the problem. He had to leave to get parts to complete the repair, and would not return until after 4:00. I had to cancel my son's piano lesson on short notice to his teacher. After the tech returned, the repairs took about 20 minutes. He told me that the job was complete, but I found out later that there was still a significant leak. I called the next morning and told the answering service I needed service that day, and to send a different technician. The new technician (Frank) called me right away and estimated what time he would arrive. He showed up on time, fixed the problem left by the first tech, and assured me that if I found that it continued to leak, he would return right away. I didn't need to call; the work was finally done properly. Thank you, Frank! I have to wonder if the work done on the inside of the toilet was really necessary. I don't have the knowledge to know if that was the case. I do know this-- the first tech didn't get the job done correctly. I took an afternoon off from work for nothing-- plus I had to pay for a missed piano lesson. Then, I had to stick around the house on a Saturday to wait for the work to get done correctly. Also, this may a concern to others: the first tech had the problem that when he bent down to work on the toilet, about 5 inches of his bare buttocks crack was revealed. Ewww. I was not able to stay in the room to observe what he was doing or to ask questions in real time because of this. The other tech Frank was able to keep his drawers up appropriately (and he also took it upon himself to remove his shoes when he entered my home). There was no extra charge for the additional visit required to get the job done right. I should note that this company offered an Angie's List deal, where I got the $100 service call charge for $49.00. Otherwise, this episode would have cost $300.00 . So, yes I would hire this company again, but I will insist that they not send that first tech to my home, ever. My experience with Frank was all A's, but the bad experience with the other tech brings my grades for Farrell Brothers for this job down to B's.

This was an Angie List Deal. After I made the appointment the heat came back on but I decided to keep the appointment.. The technician called the morning of the appointment to let me know he was on his way. When he came I told him that I didn't have heat the prior Friday but it came back on. He took a look at the furnace, went up to the attic to try and diagnosis the issue. He couldn't figure out why the heat temporary went off but he suggested that I move the thermostat from its current location because it shares the same wall with the furnace. He wrote an estimate for the relocation of the thermostat. It is a very minor issue but after the technician wrote the estimate his friendly demeanor changed He left my house without looking at me and hurried off. I can only speculate that since my heat was working and he didn't make a "sale" he was disappointed. That is the only reason I graded the experience as a B instead of an A It was a positive experience and I would use them again

Thank you for your honest review and if I get all A's and B's for reviews I am happy with that ! My technicians do not get paid commissions they work by the hour and I do all of my own sales calls I do not have salesmen that are on commission like most heating and cooling companies out there. So I am not sure why his demeanor changed but I apologize for his change in attitude and I thank you for your business! Randy Rowe President - Owner Farrell Brothers Inc.

Apparently, a service call that was billed at $49 is not good for a winter check on the furnace. The representative that came to the house was good, but late. The visit was less than an hour and required no parts. Why this was not a normal call escapes me. After talking to the designated contact he admitted that the mistake was on the company as the person who scheduled the appointment was in error. There was no such limit in the 'billing of the deal.' But I have paid $100 in addition to the $49 I paid Angie's list. That is an expensive DEAL - a $49 deal that cost me $149!!!! I was promised a partial refund, which has not arrived after more than six weeks. Whether Angie's fault or Farrell's, I cannot recommend this firm that cannot stand by the item as advertised. Even if the receptionist had explained the correct service, I had already paid Angie's list the $49. So I would be out the $49, plus still needing to get a furnace check from someone else!!!!

First let me explain that anything that you purchase on Angie's List can be refunded so don't ever think you are stuck with a deal that was not the right one for you. We have many offers posted on Angie's List and there is one for a planned service agreement for heating and cooling systems. As far as cleaning on boilers we charge a flat fee of $149.00 but we do not charge a service call so the $49.00 service call does not apply to boiler cleanings. We did honor your $49.00 dollar purchase and deducted it from the $149.00 cleaning and also gave you an 11% discount on top of that so I am not sure what else you are looking for . Thank you for your business and as I have stated in the past if you are not sure what is or is not included in an offer just give us a call and we will explain 518-462-5454 Randy Rowe President Farrell Brothers Inc.

I am so delighted with the great job that Farrell Bros and his team did to help me out of a very scary, dangerous .... COLD situation. I don?t know if it?s my imagination but after a third technician arrived on a second day and replaced a defective thermostat...which I can read and program more easily, I seem to feel even more comfortable than when the new furnace was installed two days prior (I was already impressed with the great job the previous techs did removing the old furnace and setting up the new furnace and getting it going two days earlier). I can hardly believe that I?ve been with another heating company for almost nine years when there was Ferrell Bros. with whom, after only a few days, I am greatly impressed. I have to thank the good Lord and Angie?s List for helping me to make the right decision in selecting what I believe to have been a best choice. Farrell Bros helped me out of a very dangerous, scary, COLD and "challenging" situation. (I was in big trouble on Friday with no heat in seven degree weather); Randy Rowe and his staff juggled their schedules so that they could be at my home first thing on Monday morning to help me out of this intense, probably life-saving, situation by replacing a non-working old furnace with a new furnace, thereby saving me, my radiators and my pipes from freezing and bursting. Randy even gave me important pointers on how to keep me/the pipes/the radiators from freezing while I was waiting over the weekend, I could see that he was concerned about my well-being. Randy and three of his staff were a pleasure to be around during this scary, dangerous ?crisis.? They were each great in their own way: all were professional, experienced, courteous, kind, compassionate, punctual, neat, etc,, you name it -- they kept me calm and reassured me that all would would turn out well -- and it did. As you can tell, I am so thankful I selected Farrell Bros (through Angie's List) with whom to do business. I am also better able to sleep comfortably at night in my toasty warm home knowing that I will be better to handle the cost -- which was also a huge concern for me. I AM SO VERY SATISFIED. Thank you, again, Angie's List; Thank you Randy, Tim, Tom and Nick. Happy Holidays to you and your families.

As I have stated in the past it is always better to call or email our office and inquire as to what is included in the offer that way you don't have to get a refund from Angie's List. As far as your suggestion it would be impossible to list every service that we provide or do not provide without posting a 10 page offer and I am sure Angie's List would not allow that! My suggestion is to give us a call we are here to answer any questions you may have.

Although the office hadn't informed us what the basic fee would be, the tech spent over an hour here and charged us $100 which seems fair. The tech was knowledgeable and explained things well. His balancing did improve the way heat is distributed in the house. I called a week or two later to see if there were any other recommendations or upgrades and was told if it was working better that's all that needed to be done. So I was quite satisfied with the service and have used them again.
Description of Work: We called Ferrell to take a look at our forced air heating system and adjust the various air conduits so as to increase the heat in a couple of rooms -- they call this balancing. Also, we wanted to hear any recommendations they might have to make our system more efficient or more powerful. The technician was punctual and courteous. He inspected our system, balanced it, looked at our furnace and blower, took some measurements. He said he would analyze the results back at the office and that his manager would call us to let us know the results.
