Description of Work: LETTER TO MURPHY OVERHEAD DOOR: To whom it may concern, Throughout past years, the name Murphy was synonymous with overhead doors. When I purchased a door opener, many years ago, there was no question as to who would install it. When a torsion spring broke about 14 months ago, Bob Bradon replaced it and I was more than satisfied. Now to the present. The older of the two torsion springs broke on my garage door on Wednesday, May 14. I called Murphy and Bob came mid afternoon to appraise the job. Since it was getting late and he did not have a spring on his truck, we agreed that he would return in the morning of May 15, to repair the door. He kindly offered to open the door manually so that could drive a car out of the garage, but since I had a car out of the garage already, I told him that was not necessary. We waited until 11:00 AM on May 15 and then called Murphy to reschedule the repair to May 16. I was told that someone would arrive before 12 noon on May 16. On May 16, two gentlemen arrived at about 1:30 to repair the door. I had to leave home at 12 noon, but my wife was at home. When I arrived home at 7:00 PM, I noticed oil running across the outside, top of the door. I then raised and lowered the door. When closed, the door was slightly tilted with a 1 inch gap between the door and the floor on the right side. I then found oil dripping from the top channels, leaving puddles on the garage floor. The next time that I opened the door was Sunday morning, May 17. The door went up with a jerky motion and jammed when I tried to close it. A cable had unspooled and had come down on the front outside of the door. I was going to be out all day and I did not want the door open, so I stabilized the door with a crowbar and cut the cable. Fortunately, the other cable held, but in the absence of one cable, the door slammed down when I closed it, cracking a window. Believe me; at this point I was totally frustrated with Murphy!! Door jammed, late for a Sunday appointment, oil puddles on the floor and black, oily hands. I have lost all confidence in Murphy Overhead Doors, Inc. and wonder what has happened to your Company during the past year, I have since installed a new door provided by one of your competitors. He told me he would be at my house for an estimate at 7:00 PM and he was there at 7:00 PM. He told me the installer would be there at 9:00 AM, he was there at 8:45 AM and did a beautiful job. I now ask for a full refund of a charge of $184.52 (Invoice No. A98062) to me for parts and labor relating to my garage door. I will then return the new torsion spring to your place of business. I don t want to involve any one else in this matter, but will pursue other channels if necessary. Thank you, NO RESPONSE FROM MOD TO TWO EMAILS!!
