Great Contractor. Wonderful job. We were experiencing an abnormal water bill (approx. $100 per month extra), since we had turned off the sprinkler system in October. Had to be a leak somewhere(?). Rick came out to soggy ground and temperatures hovering around 20 degrees. The site tubes filled to the top with water. It appeared that either the main water, or the irrigation valves were to blame. As the house is 16 yrs. new, it made sense to replace both valves at the same time. Rick further noticed a cracked backflow preventor valve (frozen) on the irrigation system which needed replacement. After the water was shut off and the hole dug, it turned out that the valves (irrigation and water main) were actually OK. The problem was that the irrigation system was not properly shut off and there was no drain rock below the valve. This caused the leaking. The more technical description was that the irrigation valve was a King Valve and that it was supposed to leak after shutoff to drain the irrigation system. However, the developer did not install the valve with any drain rock beneath the valve, so there was no place for the water to go. This made it impossible to visually check the final allignment of the valve after its alleged shutoff. Rick, quickly diagnosed the problem. The remedy was to dig a large hole below the valves and backfill with drain rock. The site tubes were reinstalled and the hole was backfilled with dirt. The new backflow preventor was installed and the job was complete. The job pricing was revised. Instead of costing around $750, it cost $350. Wow, what a pleasant surprize. It is extremely refreshing to cross paths and to do business with good and honest people. These type of stories actually do happen. And, this time it happen to me. Great work Rick and IRA HANSEN & SONS PLUMBING. Thank you. I would highly recommend their services to anyone.

They did an excellent job. It was an emergency job. They did not charge me for the actual job. It took them about a week to actually get to work because they had to wait for the remediation people to clean up. They would get "A" all across the board. They were always timely. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. It was very stressful situation since it was something out of the blue. His boss took him to another job for day and a half, but he came back and did not left until the job was done and finished it when he said he would do. I was very happy with the work that these people did.

We used Iran Hansen & Sons for plumbing repairs when we first moved into our home in December of 2011. We were extremely pleased with the quality of work and the price, so when we installed central air we called them. The air conditioning unit that was installed was factory defective. Ira Hansen sent Phil out 7 times to try to fix the unit. When everything they tried could not fix the problem they installed a completely new system. Each time we have dealt with them they have been professional, punctual, and always gave the cost up front. They stand behind their work, and make sure the customer is completely satisfied. I will hire them for all my plumbing and heating/cooling needs.

There was good and bad. The good was that they got the job done. Typical of many contractors they came and went due to having many projects going, so it took longer than we expected. They didn't seem too familiar with state laws and permit requirements however. When they were laying the pipe in, they didn't bring any sand which I guess is a code requirement, and the city had to tell them to come and do that. The guys that did come were hard workers. They cleaned up well after themselves. Their prices were competitive.

One of my rental properties had a brand new kitchen faucet that was leaking. I called my regular plumber, but he was out of town. So I went to the yellow pages and called a couple of plumbers. I decided on Ira Hansen & Sons because they were available immediately. Upon arriving, the technician diagnosed the new kitchen faucet as having a manufacturer's defect in it - a cracked valve that was causing the leak. The technician quoted me $350.00 to replace it with another brand new kitchen faucet. I asked for a break down of parts and labor, but he wouldn't supply it. He said it was their policy to quote a single fixed price. I thought this was unreasonable since he was hiding the cost of the faucet vs the labor. However, it was a Friday afternoon and my tenants needed the faucet replaced, so I approved the repair. On Monday morning, I called the company to speak with the owner and lodge my complaint about the total cost and the lack of a breakdown of parts and labor. He was unwilling to provide me with any more detail than his technician provided, and basically told me that was the way they do business. Period. I won't do business again with them.

I first got a bid from Jet Plumbing which seemed WAY too high, and was. A friend suggested Hansen, which he described as a small family-run firm. They gave me a price which seemed reasonable and they stuck with it despite a surprise after the hole was dug and the pipes exposed (copper line from street rather what they expected.) All work was done by one man and done very well using valves that were high quality as opposed to the cheap originals. It does seem to be a small company and they happened to be very busy at that time. My job was not an emergency so this caused me no problem. They scheduled the work for the next Monday or Tuesday. They started on Tuesday and then finished the next day because they needed different valves than they had on hand.
Description of Work: They replaced the main shutoff water valve (next to the house) plus the adjacent main sprinkler valve and sprinkler drain valve. The valves were original, over 30 years old, and starting to go bad.

Superbly. The valves were installed in no time. Rick left the area open to insure there was no further leaking before putting down the access tubes etc. See above for idea of accomplishments.
Description of Work: Because of a faulty irrigation valve installation from a prior plumber, I called Ira Hansen & Sons Plumbing and they were responsive and got someone out right away. I commend Rick for his diligent and hard work. After the leak was detected, he went to work digging the hole around the leaking valve, put two stronger and durable valve replacements in and single-handedly took on the mission of disaster restoration in my crawl space (about a 3/4 foot of water). A hard working young man. I told Cheri, their administrative assistant that Rick is worth his weight in gold! He worked long hours and late at night. He cleaned up after himself to the point that no one would realize work had been accomplished. Ira Hansen has a great crew in Cheri, Rick and Max. Max is their disaster restoration specialist and he made a final inspection of the crawl space. On the previous leak, I paid close to $3,500 and now am enlightened to the fact that this was way out of line. Hansen gets the job done at a fair price. I would hire him for future jobs at anytime! Great people. Great Work!

I had a busted pipe under my slab foundation. I had, had outrageous bids and even more outrageous plumbers come to try to find the leak or give me a bid. Needless to say I had a horrible experience, up until I called IHS. They were very courteous over the phone and arrived on time. Tom Webb came out he spent over an hour talking to me explaining me options, explaining his services, experience, ect.... (Also through in a few tips about unrelated problems) When he wrote out the bid It was $1300.00 less then my highest one and still hundreds less then my lowest one. I never felt pressure from Tom once! After he left a couple of days later I got a courtesy call from there office just checking how the experience was, I did not receive that from any other company. When I selected them to preform the service, Tom showed up early and it only took him a half a day. He did every thing he said he would. Very clean, Comforting, Informational, Fast, and the best part is that they did the job right!!! Everything works perfectly now and all for a more then a reasonable price. They even gave me a military discount even! The estimate amount was exactly what I paid no more no less was asked for ( of course you have to give great service like that a tip) I have to say I was so scared of being taken advantage of but it was the best contractor experience I have ever had! I would recommend Ira Hansen and Tom Webb to any one and they are the only ones I will use from now on!

Our old water heater would not ignite. Called Ira Hansen at 9:00 a.m. and they had the repairman come out within an hour. He showed us where there was a possible gas leak from the old heater. He shut off the gas line and we agreed that we needed to replace it then and there. He left to go get us a new one, was back in an hour, and put in the new one at that time. That took about an hour. He reviewed all the aspects of the new gas water heater with us, how to ignite it, etc. He took away the old heater.

I no longer have a leak, I just wish the part fit better.
Description of Work: I had a leak under my kitchen sink. The repairman showed up on time and was a professional. He assessed the problem quickly to be a bad pull out faucet handle. He had to go to Home Depot to purchase one. He returned and quickly replaced the faulty handle. He completed the entire job (including transportation) in less than an hour. The total bill was $181.00, less a $25.00 off coupon. My only complaint is, the replacement handle does not fit properly like the original one. When I try to move the faucet from sink to sink, it flops around. I wish he would have replaced it with a better fitting part.

Our water heater began to leak from the bottom and I called Ira Hansen & Sons Plumbing. We had used them before for a minor job. The plumber arrived and determined that the water heater had indeed failed and we needed to install a new one. The plumber quoted a price of $1,750 to install a new Bradford & White 50 gallon gas water. I thought the price was high as I had gone online to price water heaters and saw that a 50 gallon gas water heater (with varying warranty limits: 6 yrs., 9 yrs., 12 yrs., etc) ranged betwenn $588 to $688. The plumber informed me that the Bradford & White was the tank I needed as it was backed by Ira Hansen & Son's and if it failed, Hansen would stand behind it, etc. I balked at the overall price of the job and the plumber came down to $1,600 but did not detail out the costs of the job: Water heater, plus labor, plus parts, etc. Well, I agreed to the job as the water heater had failed, was continuing to leak, and we needed hot water. The installer did a good job of installing it. After the job was complete, my wife spoke with a friend who is also a plumber who informed us the cost of the job with the same Bradford & White water heater should not have cost us more than $1,100 which included a galvanized tray and earthquake straps. Ira Hansen & Sons billed the tray and straps at $300+ for parts that couldn't cost more than $15. We further called two additional plumbing companies in the Reno area and the highest estimate was $1,175. I should add that the job took one hour to complete from start to finish. We called Ira Hansen & Sons to ask that they reduce the price in light of the information we provided and they declined saying that what was charged is "fair market price." So, I would not recommend anyone hire Ira Hansen & Sons Plumbing & Heating because they took advantage of an emergency--though not after hours--situation and that is not in the spirit of fair and honest business practices.

Response from Ira Hansen and Sons Plumbing
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry we couldn't come to some agreement. After speaking with you and your wife I realized that you can't please everyone all the time. As you indicated, you were told the price UP FRONT and you agreed to it. So I am a bit confused as to why you are so dissatisfied. As I told you, our price was fair and perfectly appropriate for the scope of work performed. Installation of a 50 gallon natural gas water heater, AS WELL AS installation of a thermal expansion tank, a drip pan, earthquake straps, removal and disposal of the existing water heater, new flex supply lines, etc. Not to mention the same day service, professionally trained technician, and office support and follow up. In terms of cost, you are absolutely correct that you could personally shop online and purchase the same equipment and install it yourself for less. Alternatively, you could find a fly-by-night plumber to do the same work for less than us. However, you cannot find an established, reputable company with top-notch, experienced plumbers, outstanding customer service, and extensive warranty programs for a better price. I am truly sorry you feel taken advantage of, but I assure you, as I did on the phone the day following the job, you were charged a fair price for the work done. Daniel Hansen--General Manager. P.S.--you and your wife kept hanging over our head the fact that you are "repeat customers" with years of working with us. I looked into our records and found no record of ever working with you in the past.

We used Ira Hansen and Son's Plumbing previously for a drainage problem about 1 1/2 years ago. We had a root problem in the main sewer line leading out of the house. They were phenomial then, so we called them again. Once again, water was backing up everywhere. On the first visit, they came in from the Clean out and it helped for about a week. On the very day that Ira Hansen and Son's made their follow-up call to us, the pipes had begun backing up again. They came out immediately, at not additional charge and stayed until the problem was solved. It was roots again. This time we know what to do. Our plumber Chris was persistant in cleaning out the lines until all the roots were cleared away. No more problems! They got it all done in short order. Thank you so much Ira and Chris and all the staff.

Called to schedule and they sent someone right out. Tom was the plumber and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Did the work quickly, looked at a few other problems, fixed a drip in my bathroom and gave me some good advice on things I could do myself. Was friendly throughout. The office even called to make sure I was happy with everything a few days later. Good company.

I had seen the name Ira Hansen around town quite a bit and knew they had a good reputation so I called and spoke with a very friendly secretary, she fit me in the same day, and the plumber was quick, did a good job, and then the next day (or the day after, I don't remember) I even got a follow up call from the office to make sure everything I was happy with everything.

I called and reported that a pipe outside my house was leaking water. I asked to have someone come fix it. The man came out and said he didn't have the part he needed to fix it. He turned a handle and drained a pipe and charged $147. Though he did leave the part number I needed and said where it could be found, he did not fix the problem. This is an exorbitant and, in my opinion, unfair charge. I called for and expected a repair; I didn't get that.
Description of Work: There was a crack in an outdoor pipe, and water was leaking. Instead of fixing it, he simply turned the water off and drained the pipe. Though this stopped the leak (temporarily, until I want to turn the sprinkler system on), paying $147 for simply turning a valve was more than ridiculously excessive. I called to have him to FIX the problem, and he didn't.

The second visit the plumber did not even charge me, but he did speak with the landscaper for me. The landscaper came back out and sure enough there was a leak in their pipe. I cannot speak highly enough about Hansen and Sons Plumbing. In both cases they came out within a few hours of my call, the same day! I'm not positive about the price I paid, but it was competitive.
Description of Work: First time, plumber fixed faucet problem created by countertop installer. He still had time left over for an hour's work, so moved an outside faucet off my deck to the yard. Second time, plumber came out due to landscaper's emphatic "it's not my fault" huge wet area near newly installed sprinkler pipes.
