water heater repair
 + -1 moreThey were timely and diagnosed the problem accurately but their charge was excessive without an explanation. I paid $1300. I checked the components at Home Depot and it added up to about $500. So they either jacked up the price of goods or charged $800 for a 2 hour service call. I called several times and left messages but they haven't responded. They gave me no itemized invoice. Also the plumber pushed for a cash/check option otherwise using credit would incur a 6.5% premium. That should have been my warning! Disappointed in poor customer service and value, they have lost my business and I will share with all.
Description of Work: The gauge on the water heater was causing a whining noise.

 + -1 moreWe called to make an appointment to get an estimate for a small leak in our master bath. Surprisingly, the appointment was on a Sunday! Sean was the technician who quoted us a price and did the work. We had several inches of snow on the ground but he worked right through it. Sean hustled right in, figured out what the problem was, traipsed out into the snow to shut off the water, got the parts out of his truck, fixed it, explained exactly what the problem was, went back out to turn the water back on and off he went. He has a pleasing personality and is very clear on what work he needed to do and best of all the price was very reasonable! We highly recommend Ira Hansen and Sons Plumbing. Sean did such a great job that we would probably ask for him again if we ever had any problems with our 27 year old home. Thanks Sean!

I decided to complete the basic plumbing work as I needed faucet valve leaking issues resolved fairly quickly. The basic plumbing was completed OK, but it took a couple of months to find another plumbing service to remove the swamp cooler and install a new HVAC system

Description of Work: I had a leak in a faucet. It's a spray nozzle, and the hose was leaking. Today my son made an appointment for between 3:30 and 4:30pm. It is now 5:45. They never showed up, never called, and when I called the office shortly before 5 they put me on hold, and then clocked out for the day. I have used this company for years and have been happy with them. Not any more, and never again. I'm done.

Description of Work: DON'T USE THESE GUYS!!!! We had a major gas leak. What we really needed was someone with the right equipment to find the leak. You either use a leak detection service or a plumber who has the right equipment/who uses helium or carbon dioxide to find the leak with a leak detector that sniffs out the source of the leak via whichever gas they are using, which we finally did instead of having these clowns run around looking for it with a soapy bottle of spray water ("old school" - he he... let me spray a little bit over here, he he and a little bit over here and over here) and ripping out your walls...yeah, right! Actually... the more money they feel they are going to steal from you.... as well as put you in a position where you will be in to them plenty if you keep going!? They run around acting like they are doing something; the leak was one of the first places that the guy, Ralph, looked at... yet he couldn't find it. The American Leak Detection guys we got said it was really visible and shouldn't have been missed! Ralph did the setup that the previous guy we had in there in about 1/4 to a 1/3 of the time it took the other guys (from Allen Plumbing - DON'T USE THESE GUYS EITHER!!) so it did appear he knew what he was doing... yeah... he knew he had a fish on the line. However, he was a total ripoff artist. He ripped out the wall in our fireplace without having done any real investigative work using a leak detection... that cost a significant amount to put back... it's pathetic to take advantage of people who are in a dire situation which is what this guy did... actually paid him to GO AWAY!!

 + -1 moreEverything went very smoothly. Aaron answered all of my questions. He took care of every problem that he was able to do with the supplies that he had on hand. I would trust Aaron to do any job. When I call Hansen's and Sons Plumbing, he is my very first choice.
Description of Work: I made an appointment for two problems: the shower leak and under the kitchen leak. Aaron arrived on time; was very professional and friendly; very knowledgeable. After informing him about the two items that were on his schedule to review and/or repair, I felt very comfortable with him and opened up about all the other plumbing problems I have had for many years. Aaron did not hesitate to look at each problem, and he got started right away. There were two items that were needed in order to fix these problems. An appointment was made for the following Monday. I have been a customer of Hansen's Plumbing for several years, and I have had good reviews with the men that came to do the work. However, I have to say that I rate Aaron at the very top. Excellent in every way. Thank you, Aaron.

drain cleaning
 + -1 moreNot so great, the technician was punctual and polite etc, but the next plumber company that sent a camera down the line discovered that this plumber stopped at 50 feet. It was approx. 60 ft to the main blockage, 80 ft. to the city connector street. For $185.00 I would expect that the plumber would clean out the entire line, not stop halfway to the street. A waste of $185.

 + -1 moreIt went very well, quick and efficient; and he gave me free two stoppers and attached missing clips to the dishwasher drain hose without charge.
Description of Work: Both under sink disposals needed replacement, after review by Ralph. We set-up an appointment and he arrived early after calling and did the job quickly and nicely. I thought the price (including installation) on both was also very good.

 + -1 moreRalph quickly reconnected this area and tested everything. He also sopped-up excess water still in cabinet. He was done in about half-hour and when I asked about the bill - he said there be no charge. I was delighted in his efforts and attitude.
Description of Work: Emergency with water all over kitchen floor from disconnected plastic pipe under sink. Called Hansen and they said Ralph could arrive in few hours. He called earlier and came early. Immediately could see what was the problem; but we both were unsure of it cause, piping had been moved or pushed down. There is activity, due to cleaning supplies under sink.

They show up when prompted and their repair is solid and enduring. Rick's going throughout the house and crawl space was thorough. We appreciate that. We highly suggest using Hansen & Sons for all future plumbing repair!
Description of Work: Rick, the service tech, came to check out a mildew and musty smell we had throughout the house. Past experience with a front leaking valve caused us to be concerned. He came late in the day, inspected all plumbing to include the crawl space and his report was that all fittings etc. were not leaking. We just got back from a short vacation and the probable culprit was a sink disposal. Rick gave some suggestions.

They were at our home for 1 hour and 20 minutes and replaced the old water heater, placed a new expansion tank, did some new copper piping, cleaned up and removed old water heater. Very informative, professional, and courteous. Will absolutely use them again for any plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Rick came and replaced our old gas water heater with a new gas water heater that we had purchased on our own. He also put in an expansion tank that we did not previously have in place.

 + -1 moreFirst lets start by saying it was Labor Day that I called. We initially had a problem with the water heater pilot light, and I also had a busted pipe that happened over the winter I'm assuming in my garage wall. I made the call and received a call back within a relatively short period of time, it was Labor Day. I explained what the problems were and was told they'd get someone out as soon as the good and gave me a time-frame. They were prompt with the appointment and found that although the pilot light was out, it was operator error! The plumber went on to fix the broken pipe from the water faucet on the garage wall. Explained the charge and went to work. The job was completed in about 30 minutes and upon completion it was suggested that he don't patch the wall, however use an access panel that would allow access in the event it happens again. Great idea, problem is he suggested that I go to somewhere like the home depot and purchase it. For the time and price, this probably could've been provide in the cost of the job. Very professional service provider and can highly recommend.

 + 0 moreHe was at my house for a total of 1 hour. The lady answering the phones at the shop was extremely helpful. Called at 8 AM and she got plumber here by 10 AM on the same day. At 9 AM the hot water recirculating pump alarm started going off. I wasn't sure what to do so called the office back, she advised me to unplug the power to it. The water to the house was shut down when the technician arrived. He used my ladder to go into the attic to check for a leaky pipe. From up there he had me go turn on the water supply and could not locate any leaks up there. Came down and went to garage. I again turned on the water supply and he could see the drip coming from the ceiling. He discovered a leaky copper pipe above the hot water heater that was spraying water on the ceiling so it appeared as if the leak was coming from the attic. He changed out the copper pipe with a flexible stainless steel one. He plugged the power back in for the hot water recirculator, lit the pilot for the hot water water heater, turned the water supply to the house. When I called to make the appointment, I was not quoted any pricing information. The technician charged $200 for the repair and was at my house only for an hour. I told him I thought that was a bit steep, he said there was a $150 minimum charge. Hard to believe the stainless steel pipe was $50. Before the tech left he asked if I had any simple cleaner. His hands were filthy and he got dirty finger marks on the painted (white) cover to the crawl space. The marks did not clean up all that well.
Description of Work: Went in attic to check for leak. No leaks. Discovered pipe leak above the hot water heater (was spraying water on ceiling so it appeared as if leak was from attic). Changed out leaky copper pipe with new stainless steel pipe.

The repairman had all the parts necessary for the job, including what we had discussed with the lady at the office. I never had the feeling that they were trying to sell me something I didn't need.  + 0 moreWe had used Hansen for plumbing> Ithought I remembered that their truck also advertised heating/ac. Within 2-3 hours of my calling, the tech showed up. He asked a few questions about what we were hearing when we turned on the heater. He explained why we were getting ignition but no blower and showed me the dust that had built up near and on the unit. A thorough cleaning of the unit solved the problem.
Description of Work: For weeks our heater would ignite then shut down before the blower would put out hot air. The Hansen employee showed up within 2-3 hours of my call.. He thoroughly cleaned the unit and various parts and waited until it ran correctly which it did immediately after cleaning. No new parts were needed and it the unit has warmed us every day since he was here.

 + 0 moreHad some major work done by Ira Hansen on a rental in Dec.2011 and called them out again for a drain clean in 2012. I had tried another company and they wanted way too much and wanted to charge more for using a credit card, which I told them was illegal and they just said take it or leave it. Plus the other company got into an argument with the city inspector that the renter told me practically resulted in a fight. Not only was Ira Hansen much less money, but more professional and kept me informed of how things were going.
