Evergreen Carpet Care

Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Air Duct Cleaning,

About us

Dale and Nicole Carter first started developing Evergreen Carpet Care in Truckee, California in 1997. It has now been family owned for over 20 years. Dale began his journey in the carpet cleaning industry in 1984. The original days of the company started with just one portable cleaning unit and the 'marketing campaign' of giving away 1 FREE room of carpet cleaning to every new customer. People quickly began to experience the excitement of receiving a high quality carpet cleaning in their homes at a very affordable price. Dale hired his first employee to help manage the demand that rapidly grew, and Evergreen Carpet Care was born! They are Reno residents with all four grown boys, who are still living in Reno. Two of them work with the company. Their 9 year old son attends school here in Reno.

The two man crew arrived on time and started work right away. They used something on the cat area and then pre-cleaned the heavy traffic area and the coffee stain. After completing the whole job the odor was worse then before and the stains were still there. The coffee stain was darker and much larger than before they did anything. We were told the stains were still visible because it was wet and they reminded us that the odor could come back. By the evening the carpet was dry and the stains were still very visible and the odor was as bad as before it was touched. We knew it could come back but not by 5:00. Had we known that, we wouldn't have paid the extra for nothing. When we got the bill, the coupon(10.00) was subtracted and a pre-wash treatment of 25.00 was added. When we got a follow up phone call two days later, we told them how disappointed we were. He apologized and said he would send a QA tech to try to rectify the problems. When he came out, he used an enzyme on the cat area and a stain treatment on the coffee spot. Within 4 hours the odor was almost gone and the coffee spot couldn't be seen. If the first crew had used the same process, they could have avoided hard feelings and disappointment. There are many other carpet cleaning companies in the area so next time we will call an 'A' rated one.
Description of Work: Since we had used this company before for simple carpet cleaning we called them again but this time with issues. We explained that there was an area that had cat urine/stains that needed an enzyme treatment and general cleaning in the dining room area. There was also a heavy traffic path and a small coffee stain that needed pre-treatment. We were told the enzyme treatment would be an extra charge which we expected but the two areas of pre-treatment were part of the cleaning. We were also told that the cat urine stain/odor could return if the pad was affected.

Overall, this experience was devastating to me. The diamonds in the ring had belonged to my mother and the earrings were a sentimental souvenir from a gold mine in Brazil. The floor didn't really get clean. I was very disappointed in the young man sent to me by Evergreen Carpet Care.
Description of Work: I originally contacted three carpet cleaning companies for estimates stating that I needed to have 2 bathrooms, 1 flight of stairs, and the traffic patterns in the living room cleaned. I chose Evergreen Carpet Care because they quoted a price of $109.00 and they also told me they would call after to see if I was satisfied, promising to clean it again if not. Feeling good about the price and promise - Evergreen was my choice. The young man that came to do the cleaning was very personable - I liked him. In my private bathroom, adjacent only to my bedroom, was a basket on the counter. It contained some cosmetics and also a very valuable diamond and gold ring and some gold loop earrings. The ring was not on my finger because I had fallen, injuring my ring finger, and it had to be pried off my finger to be repaired. I know it was there the week before the 18th, as I took it out of the basket and examined it estimating what would have to be done. I returned it to the basket for safe keeping until the time when I went to Reno to have it fixed. Meanwhile, the cleaning was finished and it looked better than it had. The young fellow told me the cost would be more than I had been quoted; I didn't want to haggle with him so I paid the bill. Since the carpet was still damp and our floor plan is such that it was necessary to walk on it, my husband put towels down. When he picked the towels up there were dirty spots all over them where they had come in contact with the carpet indicating to us that the floor was not too clean. I figured that I would tell Evergreen about this when they called. The following Tuesday, I wanted to go to Reno. It was then that I discovered my ring and earrings missing from the basket. My husband, Evergreen, and me were the only persons to be in that bathroom up to then and including now. I hated to think that the young man would do such a thing but finally I called Evergreen and told them about the missing jewelry. I was so upset I didn't even mention the condition of the carpet. My final words to them were that I would not report it to the police if only the fellow would return the jewelry. They told me they would look into it and get back to me. When they called they told me that their employee denied my accusations. The employee called me also claiming his innocence. Since it was my word against his, there seemed little that I could do except go to the police, which I did. The officer in charge asked some questions and I filled out the form.. He followed up by calling the Evergreen employee and some pawn shops in Reno, and stating to me that there was not much more he could do. Well, I thought, there is more I CAN do. Hopefully, I can prevent others from the same or a similar ugly experience by sending this review to Angfie's List. Certainly, had I read this review, I would have considered myself forewarned and therefore employed a different service provider. Incidentally, our daughter has since re-cleaned the carpet and it looks just great! Respectfully, Paula Price

Response from Evergreen Carpet Care
I spoke with The Member when she originally called our office a couple weeks after the cleaning we did at her residence. She told me about her missing ring, and how she believed strongly that our technician had taken it from her home (there was no mention of missing earrings until I read this in her Angie’s List Complaint). I explained to The Member that our company takes these types of allegations very seriously, and that I would be addressing/questioning the matter internally right away. After discussing The Member’s accusations with our technician he requested permission to contact/respond to her directly. He wanted to personally reassure her that he was not responsible for this alleged theft. The technician also took it a step further, offering his availability to the local authorities (through The Member) should they want to question him any further on this matter. Our technician was eventually contacted and questioned by Police Officer Munoz. The Officer asked the technician if he would be willing to take a polygraph test, which the technician agreed to do. The Officer has not contacted our technician again since their original conversation. I hope that both The Member and other Angie’s List Members who read this review will understand why we are unable to comply with the desired resolution of replacing this jewelry. As a show of good faith, and without accepting any responsibility for the accusations made, we are willing to offer The Member a credit towards a future service with Evergreen Carpet Care. We sincerely hope that The Member will one day give us another opportunity to win back her trust.

Evergreen responded promptly, told me that the color seal although expensive would make my tiles look like new. I agreed to consider it as opposed to just cleaning and sealing them. Their cleaner called and showed up within the scheduled two hour window and went over what he was going to do and the order in which he would do it. He measured all the rooms and came up with a dollar amount which included 761 square feet of tile at $2.40 a square foot for a total of $1826.40 (this was a discounted price). The carpet cleaning came to about $115 which included a coupon. Although the tiles were expensive, I agreed because my tiles were going to look like new. The next step in this process was for me to choose a color. Here is where it started to go wrong. He only had TWO colors for me to choose from and none of them was white. Fortunately, the jamoca went with my tile everywhere except the master bathroom which needed white or off white. So I said OK as it did match some of the tub tile. Anyway, he proceeded to sloppily brush on the color not just in the grout lines but on the tiles themselves, the doors, the toilets and the baseboards. Still I was not too concerned as I have restored grout myself and it is sloppy to work with and the hardest work is CLEANING IT UP! When he was done applying the color it was past 7:30 PM and I wondered why Evergreen had scheduled the appointment so late in the day as it was obviously going to take him several more hours to clean up. WRONG – after about 10 minutes of rinsing, he started packing up to leave. The master bathroom was a disaster and looked like someone had washed the floor with mud. The rest of the tile area was just as bad but it was hidden by the color. He tried to tell me that the grout bled over onto the tile but that is the hard work of grout clean up (getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing the edges for a neat trim look). Also the floor registers were still out and there was still grout paint on the toilets, baseboards and tiles. I cleaned a small portion of tile to make sure that I was correct and then called Evergreen at 9 PM. They were there and assured me they would send someone out to make it right. And two days later, they sent the same guy who apologized profusely and spent around 3 hours cleaning up the grout. He also told me that the Evergreen would charge me to redo the master bathroom in white – I said no thanks. It was much better but as I stood there listening to him, I noticed grout paint on the tiles in front of me. Not just around the lines but on the tiles. He cleaned that up and I knew that I could walk over every inch of the 761 square feet of tile and find grout paint everywhere and I have. By now I was sick of telling him how to do his job and let him leave. I would rather spend the hours doing it myself and doing it right than argue with Evergreen. But I will post this and urge all readers should they use Evergreen for color seal, insist on the color you want and have the cleaner color seal and clean a small test area for your approval before proceeding. To date, I have cleaned the laundry room and most of the master bathroom. Only 690 square feet to go. The only reason for the D grade on Quality is because they actually did a good job on the carpet cleaning. Otherwise it would have been an F.
Description of Work: Clean carpets (3 bedrooms, office, closets and living area) and color seal ceramic tile (kitchen, dining area, hallway, bathrooms (2 full, one half) and laundry room for 2006 house with approximately 2400 square feet. Color seal in theory is applied to the grout not the tile.

I have used Evergreen to do simple carpet cleaning in the past. They had a good price, and did an average job. They had to come back and re-treat areas that had urine which failed to stop smelling, even though they treated it and charged me $150.00 to do it. I was happy with their service because I didn't know any better. I asked the company to send a rep out on a weekday at 4:30, which was when I could get home from work. I needed (I thought) to have the pad replaced and the carpet cleaned and treated for repeated urine staining by a couple of naughty cats and needed a price. I rushed home, and waited until 5:15, called the company, and asked where the rep was. The man on the other end of the phone, said they had a "two hour window" to show up for an appt, something they failed to mention when they made the appt. Not Happy. At 5:45, I was told the rep "was on his way". He showed up at 6:15 pm. By now, I am seriously ticked. Rep went through the house, I showed him the areas that needed treatement, talked to him about the odor, etc. He called his office, got some info about pricing (??) and wrote me out a quote for $575. I had a 1100 sq foot apt with about 4 small areas that needed the pad replaced. He told me they would not be able to remove the tack strips, but would "treat" them. But there was no quarantee. they would return 1 time to take care of the problem. During that week, I had 5 additional companies come out to give me a quote. Of those 5 companies, all of them were late for their appt (between 1 to 3 hours), only one of them brought a tool to look at the pad under the carpet, and only 1 of these companies recommended a different solution to the situation. Empire Carpet was that company, and recommended a special enzyme product that he thought would take care of the problem before I spent $600.00 on pad replacement, and offered to come back at no cost to re-treat if it didn't work and then replace the pad. Empire Carpet impressed me, and did what they could to save me money. Evergreen's tech seemed unknowledgable and never suggested other services, and had a limited warranty. In the end, Empire was right - the carpet was treated with their product, and after cleaning, there was absolutely no smell. I paid $120.00 for the product and a minimum charge for the cleaning. Evergreen never treated my carpet with the same product the 1st time they cleaned the prior year and had to come back, and I STILL had the odor. They never offered to try the product Empire said was a well-known treatment, they just wanted to bill me for the $600.00 with the huge possiblity I might have to pay them more money if the smell remained. Bottom line, if you need a basic carpet cleaning, anyone can do it. If you're looking for a quality company looking out for your carpet and your wallet, and a more thorough knowledge of the carpet industry, go with Empire.

Evergreen came to our home to clean carpets, tile floors and a love seat. After discussing it with the technician, I decided to do the air ducts as well. I was quoted a price and given options for premium or standard protection packages. We chose the premium protection, deciding that it was worth the added expense. I was completely satisfied with our technician. He was very professional and personable. I was taken aback by all the pet hair etc that came out of the air ducts. We have a large golden retriever and a cat and have had pets since day one in this home. The house is cleaner than it has ever been and I will use Evergreen in the future.

This was the second time I have used them and the quality of work is good.
Description of Work: Quality of service was good although the serviceman stated on the invoice that just steam cleaning might not get the bad or stained areas clean without additional costs for pre-cleaning treatement. The steam cleaning only did an adequate job on my carpets. They add costs to a normal stair clenaing co if the steps excede a certain amount. Was given a two hour time window and they showed up exactly one hour past that window - for a total time of three hours I had to take off work. They did call when in route but that was 45 minutes after the window had been exhausted.

I looked them up on Angie's List and saw their ratings. We got a coupon from Groupon for them. I would say that they did an excellent job. They were very helpful and answered my questions. They cleaned very well. The carpets were filthy, especially in our family room, and they really took care to make sure it came out cleaned. It was really a great deal for the work they did and I was pleased.

I spent $99.90 for the service they did on the 7th of February and it was a little bit more than the last time because I had an extra room done. Their service was good. It was just one guy who came in and did it all by himself. I didn’t have any upholstery done and it was just carpets. He moved some of the furniture. I had some stains and it looks like he got them all out. His price is better than one other company, but I didn't compare it with a lot of other companies.

We called the company because of their marketing, television advertising and coupons. One person shows up and tells me if I want any stains or "Special Pre-Carpet cleaning treatment that would be extra. We paid extra for what normally comes included with most other Carpet Cleaners. The extra cost coincidentally matched the coupon, so that was a scam. I had to move most of the furniture with the one person they sent out, and he was annoyed to be asked to do anything extra like stairs, stains etc...without it being an extra $75.00. The overall job was done OK, but not great. And I got a great workout moving furniture for a job that I was paying someone for.

Overall, the job was done on time and professionally.
Description of Work: We had previously used another local carpet cleaning company. Although at first the carpet looked great, within a week stains re-appeared. So this time we called Evergreen. They gave us a bid for carpet AND air duct cleaning (it had never been done on this 15 yr old house). For an additional $30. or $35. we asked to have a surface protectant applied. f you have an active family & pets like us, I absolutely recommend the protectant. I've damp cleaned a half dozen spills since they were here. I dab w/a clean cloth & the stain is gone. The two men who did the work were friendly, professional & knowledgeable. Evergreen telephoned us the next day to followup. They are professional and well worth the money.
