Hello: I am Matt the technician and I would like to responded to this review. First I will gladly take any steps to help resolve any issues you still have with the computer at no additional cost. I have spoken with the owner Gareth Spicer, and explanined the situation, and he has agreed to work on this at no cost in his shop. He is the most experienced tech with 19 years professional experience, and I have explained the problem in great detail. He only asks that you drop it off to him, and allow a day or two for him to work on it. Again at no cost. In the meantime I would also like to publicly respond to your review so that other prospective customers have a clear understanding and all the facts. We first met when you purchased a big deal on Angies List. You called us a few months ago because your mac laptop would not boot up. I came to your home and looked at the situation, and quickly realized the problem. The problem was this, when you would plug in your camera, to download pictures, if you dont tell your mac where to store them, it dumps them on your desktop. Your desktop had thousands and thousands of pictures and they were stacked on top of each other on the desktop, to the point that as the computer is booting, the apple OS makes thumbnails or previews of every picture, and a mac laptop like yours that should take about a minute to boot was taking hours (I didnt wait long enough to find out). When the mac was somewhat booted up, even then, when we tried to click on anything it took forever to respond. After I arrived I took a few minutes and looked over the situation and quickly knew that I had two choices to try to solve this issue. Choice #1: Try to somehow stay on site and try and move thousands and thousands of pictures off the desktop using a painfuly slow computer (slow because it was drowned in thousands and thousands of desktop pictures). At $75/hr your bill would have been thousands, and I would have been there a few days, or option #2 quote a flat rate of 3 hours $225, and take the computer with me, and remove the hard disk, and plug your hard disk into a clean mac and backup all your data , then wipe out your mac OS and create a few folders on your desktop, and move your photos into them. To save my time, and your money I decided to take it to the shop and backup all your data and reload a fresh copy of your mac OSX. Backing up thousands of pictures and reloading your MAC OSX with all updates, and then moving those same thousands of photos back in to your mac took well over 6 hours, and I still only charged you for 3 hours. I do remember that there was 60GB of pictures ALONE, not including your documents and software programs. Most photos are 3mb in size , so if there was 60gb of photos, that means there were about 20,000 photos =/-. After I finished the mac ran great after that. It was fast , and error free, and all the photos I backed up were easily accessable on your desktop. A short time goes by, and you purchased one of our big deals again. So I came out again, this time you wanted me to setup all kinds of periphirals on your wireless network, like multiple computers , and I think an ipad and a few other gadgets , and misc things, you had also mentioned that you were having problems accessing your photos. So, I was there about 2 hours, and finished all the network/wireless/printer setup work, when I started looking at the "missing pictures issue". You explained that you use iphoto to organize all of your photos , and using iphoto many of the photos have an "!" and wont open. I explained to you that Iphoto keep track of where the photos are stored , and when the photos are moved to a different location the database that keeps track of those photos does not update by itself. I explained that I HAD to move over 20,000 photos off your desktop because that is what crashed the computer. I photo is STILL looking for those photos on the desktop, and is not smart enough to look elsewere. I am aware of a few tools to try to update the iphoto database and I even tried , and it failed. I tried two different iphoto tools to rebuild the database and both failed. I reminded you that your photos are all there safe and sound in folders on the desktop, and even showed you. I also showed you how to go in and fix each individial photo in Iphoto as I dont think you want me clicking on 20,000 photo individually at $75/hr. I read your review, and thought "is there anywhere or anything I did wrong"? The answer is no, nothing. All in all I kept your interest at heart, and I never lost even 1 file from your computer. Our offer still stands to have you drop it off at our shop and the owner will do his best to rebuild the iphoto database which will take hours to sort out,at no cost.
