+ -1 moreThey were slow to provide service when I arrived, and ended up taking care of a man who walked in 5 minutes after me before looking over to see that 2 people were already waiting. Since I had an appointment I thought that they would be able to look at my car right away and let me know what repairs were required. It actually took 2 hours before they called to tell me what was wrong. After that things improved and they told me that they could fix the noise without having to replace the muffler. They called and told me when everything was done. I felt that the price was reasonable for the work performed, and was happy that my vehicle didn't require more extensive repairs.
Description of Work: I asked them to evaluate a loud rattling noise from beneath the car, and perform an oil change.

+ 1 moreHad the truck towed in and dropped in their lot. Had to get new tires and wheels, which they installed for me. They systematically went through items that needed to be done to get the truck running and smog certified. I was kept in the loop with every detail and all concerns and questions were answered. They are a great group of guys and have always been more than fair with me.
Description of Work: Have been going there for years with all my vehicles. They got my old truck running after it had been sitting for 12 years and couldn't be happier. They started from the ground up going through the engine, carburetor,brakes checked manual transmission, power steering and got us on the road with a big smile on my face. They all took an interest in getting my truck running and even gave me visitation rights during the process. We have some more minor work to be done and they will be the ones doing it. Will not let anyone else work on my cars and being a female that knows just enough about cars to ask the right questions they have always been honest and straight forward. Have recommended them to all my friends and have brought them new customers for life.

+ -1 moreI found them on Angie's List. This was the first time I used them. I called them back after having a break job because it was making noise. They told me to bring it back no questions asked. The owner did a road test with me, and they said they would take care of it. I still had a problem and took it back again. They had to put another part on the car and only charged me their cost for the parts and my car runs like new. They are wonderful people and do first class work. They stand behind their work, and you cannot ask for more than that. They are not cheap, but the quality is excellent.

+ -1 moreSunset failed to perform diagnostic estimate or call me within the time promised and honor the original diagnostic estimate of $46. They kept me on hold for 20 minutes when I called to get an update on my car and then told me they had figured out that the AC was not working (duh) and they needed an additional 1.5 hours to diagnose the problem which would cost $147 dollars.

Description of Work: I have been using Sunset Auto for several years as the primary caretakers of my 2001 Mercedes, Ethel. They have performed routine maintenance as well as repairs such as replacing the motor mounts. They always treat Ethel with respect and courtesy, and they treat me nicely, too! The manager, MD, is a man of his word and I would recommend them to anyone who has a vehicle they love as much as I love Ethel.

+ 0 moreMy RX-8's clutch was not sounding right. The clutch pedal sunk in one time where I almost couldn't shift into gear. Called a few shops and brought the car there. They all told me the same thing, "its the clutch" but I didn't trust them. Started searching here in angieslist.com and found Sunset Auto Import Service. I called them and talked to MD about the car and my problem then dropped off the car the next day. (MD was awesome, very friendly.) A few hours later after dropping the car off, MD called and told me that the throw-out bearing was damaged and needs to be replaced, now the clutch had some wear on it but was told to go ahead and replace it since the transmission was already taken down. (I knew it wasn't the clutch!!!) After everything was done, MD called and said the car was ready to be picked up. I came in, picked up the car and every sound the car used to make (it had this rattling sound when I under power the car) had disappeared and all is back to normal. Awesome job Sunset Auto Import Service, I'll definitely bring back my car here and my other car and will also recommend them to others.

+ -1 moreMy 2003 Hyundai Sonata LX V6 was hard to start. I also noticed the smell of gasoline in the cabin. I found Sunset Auto on Angie's List. The reports were good so I took the chance. I dropped off the car the next morning. Filled out a little paperwork. Reviewed it with the counterman, handed over the keys and got a free ride home. Got a call from "MD" later that morning. He reviewed their findings with me and quoted a price. He mentioned that I was very close to needing a new timing belt (according to Hyundai's maintenance schedule). Last summer, the Hyundai dealer where I bought the car had quoted me about $1000 to replace the timing belt. MD said it would cost about $75 for the belt (they would buy it from the dealer) and about $300 to put it in. I gave him the green light. They sent a shuttle later that afternoon to pick me up at home. Reviewed the bill with me and handed back my keys. The whole deal cost $650. I was very happy with the entire process. The car revs up instantly. I would use Sunset Auto again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced leaky fuel pressure regulator, replaced timing belt, changed oil on 2003 Hyundai Sonata LX V6.

+ 0 moreThroughout the process the owner, Mike, was awesome. He was timely in calling to keep me updated on both the results from the inspections and status of the repairs. When parts distributor gave him the wrong parts and it would have to wait over the weekend to get the correct parts he called me right away to apologize and let me know that my car would not be ready on time. His fast response allowed me to adjust my plans for the weekend. The following Monday they had the parts and my car was ready as soon as I got off work. I will use them again for my 120k mile service tune-up, and any other work I may need.
Description of Work: Sunset repaired 2 leaks (transmission and rear differential) that I had a different place "fix" a month ago, unfortunately they didn't use the right seals and they leaks came back right away. Additionally they performed a 27 point inspection on my car and found issues with my car's oil cooler lines and driveshaft, which also were repaired.

Sunset auto is very professional and after going through h*** with the supposed mechanic I hired before them, walking into their office was like walking into a sanctuary. I will always utilize this company.

The experience was excellent. They explained everything in detail to me, and what the costs where going to be. Because my car is so old I was told that some of the costs might exceed the quote I was given. I really appreciate knowing everything up front I don't like surprises when it comes to fixing cars.
Description of Work: I am restoring a 1981, Mercedes 380SL which has an oil leak, the air conditioner isn’t working, and has some problems with the electrical system like radio and interior lights not working. I was told that because of the car being so old they would need to get the parts shipped in from California. I brought the car in on Tuesday morning and left it there. Wednesday afternoon I got a call saying that the car finished and ready to be picked up. They fixed everything and right at the price that I was quoted. I would recommend Sunset Auto to everyone, and I will be using them from now on.

+ -1 moreIt went great. It took about two weeks to order parts and receive and install them. It was an expensive overhaul, but it was worth every penny. The old 1990 300ZX runs like it did when I first drove it off the lot 21 years ago. Sunset Import Motors did a great job. Their technicians are top notch skilled professionalsl. They really know the ZX model. I was about to junk that car, but I'm glad I took it to Sunset Import Motors. It's like I got a brand new car again.
Description of Work: My 1990 300ZX engine was totally overhauled. The technician did a 27 point safety inspection, inspected drive line and drive train, belts, hoses, brakes, lights, ball joints, and tie-rods, shocks and struts, checked for oil leaks or any fluid leak, U-joints and drive shaft, C.V. axles, C.V. boots, tire and wheel bearings. He also checked the battery draw, since the car would not start after sitting for a day or two. He diagnosed and found a short in the electrical system causing a draw. After further inspection the technician found that the alternator was bad causing the battery to drain. A new alternator was installed. Vehicle operation was rechecked. Both battery terminals were replaced due to their worn out condition. Upon further diagnosis the technician found that the vehicle was misfiring on cylinder #6 and running rough. In addition, bad fuel injectors and bad injector plugs were discovered. The upper intake manifold was removed to replace all fuel injectors and all fuel injector O-rings and seals. The technician then spliced in new fuel injector harness clips and replaced all misfiring spark plugs. Finally, new rear shock absorbers were installed. The technician rechecked everything and gave the vehicle a final test drive.

The price was great for what they charged us compared to what we thought that we were going to have to pay. The service was good. We made an appointment, took it in one day and got it the next day. We would probably be taking our Honda to them when it needs work because we live there a good part of the time.

They give you an estimate...then pull things apart, then call you with the news that your 1000.00$ quote just went up to 1700! ...sound familar? Not here!!!! These guy are soooooo AWESOME !!! they REALLY understand that if you treat customers right ...it will lead to this!!! + -1 moreThey brougth me home and picked me up again inwhitch I really appreciated. They gave an estimate that sound expensive, so I went online to find the "HOSE" that cost 500 and could'nt find it. So, I called them back, really upset, they lead me to a site inwhich they claim to have purchased the "HOSE". I allowed them to install it !!! When I returned I asked if they found in other problems and they said yes, a fraded belt. I asked how much to fix it, they said 99.00. this was 5pm. My problems with them ....They didn't seem concern about my car !
