Anthony & Sylvan Pools

I highly recommend Anthony Sylvan. We interviewed three other pool companies without getting that 'this is the one' feeling and finally joined Angie's List just for the ratings. Anthony Sylvan was rated very high so we called them. From our first contact to our last, this company provided professional, caring, quality work. Every step of our pool-building process was smooth and timely. There were absolutely NO cost overruns and each phase was completed as promised. Dave, our project manager, was always available and responsive. He made sure subcontractors and inspections were scheduled without delay so work would not be interrupted. This is our first pool so we had lots of questions and each was answered quickly and completely. The result of their expertise is our unbelievably gorgeous back yard pool that we are enjoying more than we ever thought possible.

Just moved to Vegas in July. Found this company on Angie's list, called them and Bob Mertel (sales/designer)was out within a day of the call. He took all the measurements and had a computer workup within 3 days (weekend). The finished pool EXACTLY matched what he had designed and it looks WONDERFUL! Exactly what I had wanted! Within a couple of days of that meeting, I met the GC, Skye Ducreay who had that pool done within the time frame he had set (1 month) and by golly, that's exactly when it was done. I was able to watch the entire construction process from beginning to have my waterfall turned on and these guys and their subcontractors were amazing! I'll enjoy my retirement!

Phenomenal. I shopped around and Sylvan was the second cheapest, but I’m willing to pay for quality and that’s what I got. One of the main reasons I chose Sylvan was the salesperson Bob Mertel. He answered his phone every single time I called, no exaggeration, even at 10pm. The guy was phenomenal. My project manager was also great. His name was Skye and he works best via text messaging. I was very happy and I would use them again on this next pool.

Slow at first especially with local permits and such. But once started moved along fairly promptly. The workers were all professionals in thier jobs, hard working even in the hot desert heat. Overall the pool is great and we love it and enjoy it everyday.

The timeliness of the project, adhering to the estimated timetables, your constant availability and presence, the professionalism of the crews - from the rough-in to the tile work to the decking, to final, all was as promised; professional, correct and most of all On time and budget.. We especially appreciate the extra time given to the decision to blend the pool layout with our house dimensions and existing decking. The outcome is beautiful and ties in brilliantly with the house. A special thanks go to your Superintendent, Skye DuCreay. Being in the construction industry myself, expectations were very high for management of the project. I am very happy to state, Mr. DuCreay is an excellent Superintendent and deserves much of the praise for maintaining the schedule through inclement weather and exceeding the demands of a very finicky owner, me. Every step of the operation went exceedingly well, from the design and consultation of Mr. Don Sabino, to the supervision and oversight of Skye DuCreay. Admittedly it was winter, but the pool took less than a month to install...I was amazed at the punctuality and efficiency of workers who clearly knew what they were doing. Seven months later, the equipment is working just fine and my pool is lovely and well used.

On 3 Sep, I spoke with a company representative who was very concerned with my review. We discussed the matter and he addressed my concerns and I was very satisfied with the resolution. I greatly appreciated that the company took time to contact me and work toward a positve resolution to the issues presented in my initial review. This outreach is truly indicative that this company cares deeply about their customers and customer satisfication. On 19 May, a pool design rep met with us to get the house specs and see what we were interested in. Very nice individual, spent about an hour with us, but that is where it ended. On Saturday, 31 May, I phoned our rep at the office asking about the status of our design. He stated he would send me some pictures over the weekend. We received nothing, so during the the following week (now we are into June) I sent him an email politely asking on the status of our design - no response; not even an acknowledgement to my email. I gave it a few more days, and sent him another email. Again, no response, no acknowledgement. To this day, July 7th, I've heard nothing from this company. Not sure why a nationwide pool company has such poor customer relations. Not only did our rep not contact us again, we never received a call from the Las Vegas office inquiring on how things were going. I guess they will get business from others, but they will never get my business.

I have never written an online review of a business before, good or bad. But I felt compelled to make an exception in this case. If you get lucky, and all the subcontractors do what they are supposed to do and do a decent job, naturally your experience will be a positive one. However, I believe that the true measure and test of a company's integrity is how they handle and respond to problems and defects when they arise. My experience with Anthony & Sylvan Pools has been absolutely the worst and most frustrating experience I have had with a contractor or business by far. An absolute headache and utter disappointment. Once all payments were made and problems started coming up, I was essentially forgotten about and ignored. I had a two contracts with Anthony & Sylvan, a new pool build and a pool renovation, for a total cost of approximately $73,000.00. I would have rated the price of the pool and renovation from fair to good if the overall workmanship were of at least a satisfactory quality. Responsiveness and professionalism were an absolute fail. There were problems with both pools. Between the two pools, there were decking issues, plaster issues and a spa leak, and that is only what has been discovered so far. I have been getting the run around for three months. I've called, emailed and gone in personally. I have even talked to the general manager. I have continuously gotten the run around if I got any response at all. I have informed their corporate headquarters by way of their online review, and have heard nothing from them either. Customer "service" was extremely poor and there was no concern for customer satisfaction. Whatever "warranties" are offered are worthless when concerns and workmanship issues are ignored. I had to hire my own contractor to diagnose and repair the spa leak at an additional cost. The plaster issues are still unaddressed. What should have been a dream backyard has turned into a complete nightmare. I regret choosing Anthony & Sylvan to build and renovate my pools.

All together excellent. The project manager, Skye, is on the ball and on time. Great follow up with everything. Everything turned out better than planned and am very happy with the results. There were a few minor issues along the way but dealt with very quickly with a positive result. If you go with colored plaster know ahead of time it will not be perfect in the finish. I went with a gray color which gives deep blue water tone. But, in the wet deck area it shows as gray since it is shallow. The finish is not perfect and looks more like the bottom of the ocean than a pool. If you are looking for a perfect finish then this color may not be for you. At first the finish bothered me but has grown on me and now would not have it any other way. It gets complements on how different the finish looks and the color of the water in the deeper section. My original cost was $54,000. But thanks to Mr Caliche it jacked the price up the additional $6k. I had to check for myself and yes it was harder than cement. If you are putting it into a very new home you can find out from your builder if they hit it while putting in the foundation or drive way maybe. Mine was hit in the first run with the hydraulic breaker on the bobcat. Would go with them again in a heart beat.

Mr. Don Sabino was excellent in designing the perfect pool and hot tub for my backyard. Mr. Skye DuCreay was awesome as the project manager. A&S was excellent in communicating with me through all the stages of construction. The whole process took about 8 weeks from start to finish. For 8 weeks basically your yard will be a construction zone. I would highly recommend building the pool in the winter months rather than spring or summer. A&S did a fantastic job cleaning up and when the pool was completed you would never know it was a construction zone. Over all I highly recommend A&S if you plan on building a pool. They were extremely professional and they are by far the most reputable pool builder in Las Vegas.

I hired Peak Plastering to do my pool.

Anthony and Sylvan Pools exceeded our expectations. The work was completed on time (we understand that is rare with pool builders) and they communicated with us throughout the entire process. They were very thorough and we knew just what to expect. A few small issues came up and they were corrected immediately. Don Sabino was our design/sales consultant and he was very patient was us during the design phase. He came up with great ideas, even pointing out that we could keep a tree we thought we would have to lose. The finished product actually looked like the computer model. They suggested an outdoor fireplace builder, and we were very happy with that referral - that work came out great as well. Don was very funny and easy to deal with. Having your yard turned into a construction site for 7 weeks is not fun, but they made it as tolerable as possible. Our pool is beautiful! I would highly recommend Anthony and Sylvan Pools.

When installing the pool they were quick going for the excavation to the stone work and the finishing around the pool and patio. Everything was done right. They worked with my wife and did numerous computer illustrations until she got exactly what she wanted. Part of my pool heater went out. The supplier of the part only had a two year warranty. Anthony had a warranty on the part that was three years. They could have made it more difficult for us, but they made it easy and replaced the part. We had a hard layer of rocks, and they had to bring in a pile driver, and they didn’t charge any extra. They were happy to add in additional features that my wife wanted installed with no problems. The chemicals were eating through the rocks and causing multiple problems and Anthony Sylvyn came out and told us it was the fault of the pool maintenance company so we could get it resolved. They were putting the wrong chemicals in. Don Sabino was the sales person and designer. He was excellent and been following up for years to make sure everything is going alright.

I would not choose to install a pool again. We researched carefully the company we chose. Blue Haven received poor scores both from Angie's List and the BBB so we chose not to go with them. Desert Springs Pools came out and they were over priced and designed something beyond our budget. Furthermore their scores were not as high as I would have wanted to see. We chose to go with Anthony Sylvan pools who overall had good scores both with Angie's List and the BBB. We started this process the first of July and as of now we are 2 weeks past the projected finish date. Excuses have been given ranging from blaming the building and safety department here in Pahrump for not getting things done quickly to the weather. The last straw was today when the project manager called and said plastering would be at least 2 weeks from now. We have jumped through every hoop they have wanted....taking paper work in and picking it up, coming into Las Vegas to pick out tiles and the decking only to find that it had been discontinued and they wanted us to come and select something else. We were lucky that we picked out something that is fine just by looking at pictures on a website. Payments were all made on time or early, so that could not be used as an excuse. The alarms that are required by code are another story. The pool designer told us we could get ones that could be mounted with double faced tape. We went to Leslie's Pool and were told that would not pass the inspection. Needless to say, we spent $300.00 to get the alarms they said we need. What a nightmare to install them, so I asked the inspector here in Pahrump what he recommended. He said go to Home Depot and get ones with double faced tape. We mounted those, but they would not stick properly when the sun hit the window. We had to use Gorilla glue to put them up. We did pass inspection today with the correct gate locks and all the window alarms worked. Who knows when then plastering will be done...they are at least two weeks backed up.....they say the end of next week, but I do not believe a word they say. The quality of the subcontractors used to build the pool has been great. They were professional and did quality work, but our problems lie with the pool company Anthony Sylvan. Responsiveness to phone calls is not there. They often take several days to return a call. We often were not notified of scheduled steps in installation and would receive a phone call from the contractor asking us to return home and unlock gates so they could do their work because they were sitting outside the gate. The gates would have been left unlocked if we knew someone was coming to do work on the pool. **************UPDATE****************** After submitting the initial review to Angie?s List, we heard not only from the local manager, we heard from one of the executives at the corporate level. They went out of their way to make sure all work was sped up and completed to my satisfaction. Once they got the review, they completed the work within the week. After finding out how well they paid attention to my concerns, I would definitely use this company in the future. They do take customers concerns very seriously.

Everything went great. They were on time and kept to the promises we were given. Our sales person Don was very helpful and informed. Our project manager Skye kept it all together even though there were many things going on. He kept us informed every step of the way. We love the end product. Very, very happy!!!

They didn't perform any work. They just gave us a quote and then raised price. We didn't go with them but wanted to inform other members of what took place. see above. =========== Review Update: 9/8/2014 Provider's representative, Owen, contacted me 3 to 4 months after the review was posted on Angie's List. He apologized for what had taken place and asked if we were still interested in getting a new pool. I informed him no, my pool was already underway with another contractor. Thereafter, Owen offered to assist us with any questions or concerns we had as new pool owners. This pleasantly surprised us and we felt his company regretted the way their employee behaved and what had taken place. In the spirit of resolution, Owen also offered us a $250.00 gift certificate to their online store. We could use the certificate for anything from pool chemicals and supplies to pool toys and floats. We were impressed by their efforts to satisfy us and maintain good business relations with us even though we did not engage in business. We, in good conscience, reconsidered our prior rating and therefore, decided to update our rating and review because they no longer deserved it. We could not however give them an an A rating because they didn't perform any work for us. However, should we require another pool in the future, we will consider them for the design and build. :)

Their service was good. We like their price and responsiveness. They were prompt in building the pool. They were able to build it within five weeks.

They were fine. They were one among the several companies that we talked to but we didn’t use them. They were responsive.

Their job is phenomenal. They do their work. They do not take too much time in their 15 minute break time. They are very punctual even from the beginning. They are wonderful. Right now, everything is going well.

They were on time, polite, professional and it turned out great. Any problems were immediately resolved.

I can no longer discuss the details of our project.

Overall things went well and we are happy with the pool. Our sales person (Don) was very helpful and knowledgeable. Our biggest criticism is their payment method. They require an installment method with payment upfront prior to each stage of construction so the largest installment (more than half) is due prior to excavation. I was OK with that payment and the subsequent payments but the last installment (for finishing) was required prior to the finishing. I don't like to pay for any service in total until the job is completed. There was one pool finishing item that had not been completed and when I called it to Don's attention it was completed to our satisfaction. In terms of quality we are very satisfied. They are not cheap and we had to get another estimate to negotiate a better price. They used another company to do the pool orientation ("pool school") and the "teacher" did a poor job. He didn't seem to understand things very well. I had to read the operating manual to understand what was going on. Overall, we would recommend Anthony&Sylvan.

From start to finish they took only five weeks co complete the work. They were punctual well scheduled and very professional. I have built several pools and this was far and away the best experience I have had building a pool. Would highly recommend them and would not hesitate using them if I were to build another pool.

Dave Rothwell, Designer, did a great design and was extremely prompt in follow-up from my initial contact. The pool was constructed in peak pool season and was completed in 6 weeks, 2 weeks ahead of schedule. All aspects of construction, except for excavation & the shoetree, were subcontracted out. All crews were efficient and cleaned up well. The Project Manager, Joe Warwick, was very responsive to any questions or concerns I had during the project. Upon completion, it was a bit difficult to schedule with the pool start-up company and the person responsible for the minor touch-ups. I love my pool & spa!

The first contractor they sent responded quickly, and finished relatively fast. The job itself, however, was not done well. There were huge white strips and discolorations where the new plaster was. After I called and complained, they sent someone else out, and this time it was done right. I could have done without the hassles, but the bottom line, is that Anthony Sylvan stood by their reputation, and stuck with it, until I was satisfied.
