+ 3 moreWe moved into our two acre Pojoaque home almost two months ago. Unfortunately the seller must have forgotten about keeping up with the maintenance for the grounds. It had gotten completely out of control. Leroy Montoya and his brother Matthew, (plus one other crew member who was their for the first day) worked feverishly for two and a half days just getting the property back under control. After they completed their work, which included, cutting down five or six dead or otherwise unwanted trees, cutting and removing many horrible shrubs, cutting down and removing the weeds which had grown out of control and had spread to much of the property, they cleaned everything up by making 4 or 5 trips to the dump. When they finished their work, I could not believe it was the same property. We actually had a view of the Jemez Mountains. I elected not to reveal the overall cost for the work they did for me due to the fact that each job is different and could be subject to specific charges. PS: I just want to explain my reasoning for the "C" rating I gave Leroy and Matthew below. It was strictly for the price we had agreed upon prior to any work being started. It was in no way a reflection on the quality of their work. I received 3 other estimates for this job and two of the estimates were well below the price Mr. Montoya had quoted. Nevertheless, I chose the Montoya brothers based on my feelings I got after our conversations. I do believe my feelings and judgment was correct. I was happy to pay them the fee we had agreed upon.

+ 0 moreI was collecting estimates for a job I wanted the project completed before the following spring. Leroy Montoya said his crew could be on the job on the next day (August 30th). They showed up on the next day and were finished in a week. The back yard turned out beautifully. I never used to even go in my back yard because it was so neglected and unpleasant. Now the back patio is my favorite place on the property. Top quality materials installed by an experienced landscaper. I highly recommend Montoya landscaping.
Description of Work: Totally re-landscaped back yard. Removal of the existing structures and landscaping. New xeriscaping with gravel, berms, flagstone path and coyote fences.

They took more time on the job that they'd planned on, but gave that time without extra charge to make sure that everything was done right. This kind of great customer service is not really a common thing here in Santa Fe, so it is especially appreciated when it happens.

+ -1 moreLeroy and his 2 brothers, Eddie and Matthew, arrived promptly @ 8:30 am on Thursday, 7/30. They worked straight through until 3:30 pm. I had them return on Saturday, 8/2 @ 8:30 am to finish the initial cleanup (I have 4.25 acres--and maintain all of it). We have agreed that Leroy and the boys will come every 2 weeks to maintain the property in 'park-like' condition. Total cost for both days=$1480. Highly recommend!

+ -1 moreI called Montoya at about 5:15 on a Thursday to ask for an estimate, and the job was completed by 2:00 pm the next day. After calling, I met Montoya at the house at about 6:30 to get an estimate. They explained a few options, and we settled on a plan for the work. There was a little bit of haggling over price, but we quickly agreed on that as well and scheduled the work for the next day. Montoya arrived at about 9:30 to begin the work. They worked efficiently, completing the concrete patch by 11:00. Whlie that dried, they went out to color match the finish coat and returned by 12:30 to complete the work. The work was done by 2:00, and the result looked very nice. I inspected the work at multiple stages of the repair and all seemed professionally done. The purpose of this job was to resolve an inspection issue that came up while selling the property, and I was very concerned about performing the repair without impacting the aesthetics of the house. Montoya took great care to assure a professional and near seamless match between the patched area and the rest of the chimney and house. In summary, I had a small stucco repair job that I needed done quickly and professionally, and Montoya executed on both of these needs. I gave a less than stellar rating on price not because I thought the price was excessive but because there was a small amount of haggling. This might be par for this type of work; so please take that rating with a grain of salt. For small, quick-turnaround repair jobs, I would recommend Montoya.

I had to call Mr. Montoya back 3 times and he could not get the irrigation system working. I had to call another company to fix the problem, Mr. Montoya did refund me $250, but the job ended costing $700 with refund. ,

+ 0 moreThe estimate seemed high, but I was willing to pay for a quality job. Unfortunately, the job has not held up well. Within a few days of the work the joints started cracking so they returned and to their credit, redid much of the job. Only a few months later, and cracks are returning between the stones. One flagstone was not properly seated and it literally rocks when walked upon. Almost daily I notice new cracks and I fear this job won't even last through the summer.

+ -1 moreMontoya's did okay on clearing the weeds. They left a lot of dead branches on the Butterfly bushes/trees, which still need to be pruned off. The antique rose bush was pruned so h****** the right side that the trunk split from the weight on the left side. I had to hire another landscaper to come help me stake and wrap the bush in hopes of saving it. I feel that the cost was a little high for what was done.
Description of Work: Cleared the back yard of tumbleweeds, pruned 3 Butterfly bushes/trees and one 22-yr-old, 10' antique rose bush. Hauled all away.

I would not hesitate to refer him and his crew. His prices are above market, but you get what you pay for. Responsiveness was top notch. He showed when he said he would, and that is pretty important for contractor work. He is an outstanding guy. There are no surprises. He said what he was going to do, and he did it in a professional manner. I have talked about some new jobs for him down the road.

+ 1 moreMade an appt for initial estimate and Leroy came out a day or two later (exactly on time as scheduled) and quoted me on a bunch of different landscaping projects that I need done (within the next 12 months). Everything from clearing brush to redesigning our front court yard. The priority was to get rid of all the pricker bushes. He gave me a quote weds and we negotiated it to an acceptable fee. Said he would come out hte next day at 9am to haul it all away. But we had to reschedule because it rained Thursday and Friday so he came out first thing Monday morning (on time) with huge flat bed in tow. Spent 2.5 hours with another guy ripping up every single bush on our property. We did a walk through and made sure that everything was to my satisfaction. He even gave me tips on how to plant wild flower seeds on the newly uncovered earth. Really nice guy - very professional - did the job quickly and very meticulously. He is coming back in a few weeks to cut back my Russian Sage. He's a little more expensive than other landscapers I have dealt with in the past - but he is the only one who has ever responded as quickly to a request for a project, showed up on time and done an above and beyond job. You get what you pay for and Leroy is definitely worth the cost. Highly recommend him.

Small crew worked approximately 64 hours, which equates to >$40/hr @ $2,600. I provided an additional $700 for materials for a total of $3,300. Leroy required cash, markup on materials was high. Recommendation to both Leroy and clients: clarify details of work to be performed at onset, and whether materials are included in estimate. Agree to negotiate additional costs in advance of performance.
Description of Work: Large residential yard clean-up for my aging mother. No landscaping was performed. Cleared weeds & brush, mowed, trimmed tree limbs, cut up wooden sculpture with chain saw.
