AFFORDABLE SERVICE HEATING, PLUMBING & COOLING

Technician informed me that the compressor had blown and I would require a new system as replacement was not available due to environmental changes. I requested a written estimate which I received a few days later. Due to the significance of the expenditure, I requested another company to provide their opinion and estimate. That technician replaced the capacitor and the compressor kicked in.

Furnaces seem ok. However, the coordination activities provided by the company were terrible. Electrician was not available to wire the furnaces, so I had two employees (not electricians) come out and asked me what needed to be done. I thought they should have known, themselves. City inspectors did not show up, and when I followed up, they had never been scheduled by Affordable Service. When I personally scheduled the inspectors, no issue. When serviceman came out to start up swamp cooler, he insisted that current pads looked in good condition and did not need to be replaced. Like an idiot, I said ok. Within a month, a fish smell was coming into the house from the ducts. Turns out, the pads were getting moldy and so I changed them. In hindsight, the serviceman was lazy and was just trying to get the job done as quickly as possible. Any swamp cooler 'expert' should have known that pads would get moldy.

Called them on 6/5/2015 as the unit was not providing cold air. They agreed to provide service the next morning; they arrive mid-afternoon. My folks are 89 years old and I was not available to be present when they arrived. The technician did not provide an estimated cost but went right to work. About 45 minutes later he was done, the air was blowing cold and he presented my folks with a bill for $545 less 10% for a senior citizen discount. After I found out about the cost I contacted Affordable to get an explanation and was passed from one person to another but finally got someone to tell my this was a standard charge for this type of service and nothing could be done about it. I asked for a detailed reciept so I could tell just what work was done as the original receipt had no detail. He reluctantly agreed and we finally received it on 25 Jun via snail mail (US Mail). The detail was still limited but basically the service was to add R-22 (amount not included, seems no one can remember), inspections of the indoor and outdoor coils, and the compressor and motor checked out ok and that was it. Other companies in the area charge $105 per hour for labor and $50 per pound of R-22. If there is more than one pound of R-22 required to fill the unit, the unit is considered to have a leak and then the time to fix it will jump to several hours. Bottom Line: This company took advantage of an elderly couple living in discomfort due to an A/C unit low on Freon. The bill should have been well under $200 not $500+. This company should be ashamed of themselves. I will never use them again, their advertisement is a lie, they are not affordable especially for a vulnerable elderly couple like my folks. This boarders on the criminal.

I called on Monday morning after the cooler went out during the weekend. They offered me service that day before noon. Receptionist was attentive and really listened. Our service person, Rudy, called me and stated he was running late and was coming ASAP. When he got there he discovered the cooler was simply unplugged. He felt this was due to vibration from the cooler. Before doing anything he let us know about suggestions for care, deals on maintenance, normal service charges (which I failed to ask about), etc. We opted for a service program that included care throughout the year including closing the cooler down in fall. He tightened mounting, repaired float, checked the cooler function including water source. He was polite, professional, looked like someone you wouldn't mind in your home. It may be a little pricey but we got a lot of information and suggestions as well as a general estimate for replacement of another cooler that was reasonable. I would call them again.

Affordable Service installed a Kohler Cimarron comfort height toilet that I had purchased at a big box store. The tech, Kurt, called that he was on his way, arrived promptly, proceeded in a courtesy and professional manner to complete the work in just shy of any hour, removed all materials and left a clean job site. Pleased with the work and would recommend for the task. This was my first experience with Affordable Service.

Our elderly neighbors called in a panic because their house was hot and they couldn't get their A/C to come on. They stated that they another company had come out earlier that day to install a new thermostat. My husband went over to see if perhaps they programming was set to heat instead of cool. The house was 94 degrees when he walked in the door. I called Affordable and Matthew showed up in a timely manner and fixed the problem. It was an after hours call, but he was polite and professional.

We have used this company in 2008 when they installed ac/furnace to replace our swamp cooler and old furnace. I called at 9am as the temp in my house was 59. Receptionist said she could have someone here between 10am and noon. Matt showed up at 9:30am, diagnosed the problem as the fan motor, the cost was almost as much as replacing the furnace. Decided to replace it with Heil furnace. Steve and Joe showed up a short while later, They were very professional, explained everything they were doing, showed us how to work the thermostat and change the filter, cleaned up all the debris from the old furnace and hauled it away. They get someone to the house quickly, resolve the problem and are professional. We will use them in the future for all our electrical and plumbing problems.Highly recommend them.

These guys are the very best!! They know what they are doing and are very professional and tidy. The give a fair quote and do the work for the quoted price. Easy to work with. The installation looks good when they finish. They have an eye for the details. They send enough people to finish the work in the time quoted. All are licensed plumbers electricians etc. They bring all the tools and parts they will need. I am very pleased with the installations. I bought a 20 year old house and it needed new air, heat , hot water and softener. I scheduled affordable to do the work the day after closing. They were amazing. Besides the manufacturers warranty they give a labor warranty too. I will always use these guys. They are the very best.

Very professional service. Kurt was prompt and explained everything that he needed to do. Fixed the kitchen faucet so it now will traverse both to the left and right and installed a new garbage disposal. Cleaned-up after himself and did a great job.

The service person showed up on time and called me before he arrived. He carefully winterized our system and answered any questions I had.

I will be scheduling future service calls with them

The return call was within a few minutes. This is a rental. The technician called and gave me an estimate of approximately 450.00. My first response was to say "no" and I should have. When I told my mother the cost she came unglued. Once again I was given an estimate and I agreed I am saying beware. I had so much going on and was scheduled for dental surgery the next Monday so I was not wanting to deal with this then. I was charged 191.00 for a 3/4 power motor. As far as I can tell the work performed was ok. I was given a quote to replace the whole cooler. To take the old one down and put a new one on it was going to be $1500.00!!!! Beware this is not affordable.

A service technician came to the house unprepared to do any work -- contrary to what had been represented during a scheduling call. After the estimate was given -- standard, set prices apparently unrelated to the actual time necessary to perform the work requested -- it was clear to us that this company is named incorrectly. It should be called "Unaffordable Service!" The work estimate was for $826 + tax for an estimated 4 hours of work. That is in excess of $200 per hour for the plumbing labor alone! I was shocked and quite taken aback. Needless to say, I suppose, we did not use and could not recommend this company to anyone.

This happened after hours, call to answering service was responded to within 20 minutes, work was completed within one hour. overall a great experience and would definitely use this company again.

Mark arrived EXACTLY at 1530 ready to work. He quickly assessed the problem and provided me with the fix and estimated cost. Even though he didn't have the part on hand, he was done in less than a half hour. The part was only $5, but you couldn't pay me enough to go on that roof at 110 degrees. One year warrantee on parts and service, but Mark thinks the cooler will die before the part. Great job!

We remodeled out bathroom, but the contractor we used abandoned the job before it was finished.. Affordable came in and completed the faucets and the toilet. It was very challenging because the contractor had installed weird rough values and an unusal size for the toilent openning. The Affordable plumer managed to make everything work. He didn't give up when he encountered problems. However, we ordered a glass pivot shower door from Home Depot which he didn't know how to install. He had told us before we ordered the door that he was the person at Affordable that installed shower doors. Overall, however, Affordable was responsive and very helpful. The plumber also fixed plumbing in our kitcen. We were getting no cold water out of kitchen faucet. We know have cold water and a side benefit we weren't expecting, cold water started coming out of the dispenser in our frig! He also let us know that we would need to replace plumbing at some point.

I called Affordable Service at 0830 with a non-emergency hot water heater issue and got a same day appointment for between 1300 and 1500. Kurt arrived at 1430 and discussed our options. There was no pressure, just an honest presentation of the pros and cons of repairing an older hot water heater versus buying a new one. We decided to repair, and Kurt obtained and installed the part in a timely manner. I would definitely use Affordable Service in the future.

The service went well. Scheduling was very easy. They completed the service within 3 days. They did a thorough job and were great with the clean up afterwards.

We were given the most price reasonable quote for an entire HVAC system. The workers were prompt and the system has been a money saver for us with utilities and efficiency

First, the supervisor, Kevin, came for an estimate, evaluated the house size, how the builder had installed the duct work (he knew the subcontractor that installed the duct work), and what I personally needed for both heating and cooling. He is very experienced, explained about SEER , that a 60% furnace would work, and gave me a detailed contract with what they would do on the 8th. He said that I would not need an expensive Trane or Carrier for my house and that the more economical Heil units, including a 3 ton coil for efficiency would be best. That Wednesday was an incredible day. The three crew members arrived at 8:45 and the supervisor, Kevin, stopped by on and off all day to inspect the work and answer my questions. These three men removed the 15-yr-old furnace and the 7-yr-old swamp cooler. They also spent most of the day running the cables, pipes and electrical wires up through the roof, across it, and down the back side of the house to the A/C unit. They worked until about 6pm and were very tired. They did an excellent job, the inspector passed their work, and it took four days for this new system to heat the house evenly. The old furnace was heating two rooms a great deal more than the rest of the house. The company included the duct cleaning and gave me a reduced cost because it is January when contractors' work is slow and I am a senior. Gabriel was very careful and did a great job cleaning the ducts. The other crew members were Richard, the company's electrician, another Kevin, and Joe. Joe quizzed me at the end so I would know how and when to change the filter and that one never changes the filter when the furnace is running. They offer a service contract. The only thing I was unhappy about was that the contract did not itemize the cost of the parts and the labor amount. These guyes deserve an AAA rating.

I called Affordable Services about a suspected water leak some where in the house because of a sudden rise in my water bill. The plumber, Mark< arrived in a reasonable amount of time and proceeded to open the man hole cover and declared "No leak". There was no further investigation. No pressure check, no sound check, nothing to deternine that maybe the meter was wrong. After that it was down hill. I asked about the "Angies List" coupon and was told that only applied on future calls after the first one. I then asked about a senior citizen discount and was told "Yea, I can give you one if you really want it". I felt so much like a beggar told him to forget it. I paid the $75.15 for the ten minuets of discussion. Never again.

Came same day just a few hours after the call. Which was surprising since it is in the middle of the summer when you would expect a delay for service. Repairman came and changed out the condenser and fixed the AC unit. Was done in about an hour and house is now cool again.

THE most AWESOME customer service, from both the technician who came to our home to do the work, and from the woman handling phone calls at the office. [We just sold our home and are currently in the middle of moving. Details to follow, as soon as we are settled in at our new place].
