"I would not recommend their service. I already knew the problem before the technician came out. I needed a belt replacement and he said the belt needed replacing since it was older and brittle. I do not remember him saying anything about the motor needing replacing...BUT since it was an older piece of equipment that you could get a Lowe's he could not help me BUT could replace with a new unit for >$800. So for a service fee of >$69, I could purchase a new unit or buy a belt at Lowe's."

"This company uses more than one phone number, so beware. The one other than listed on this site is 505-243-0322, which I called first and a man with a recognizable accent answred. I did not contract these folks to do any work, in fact I had recommended to my 80 year old (suffering from dementia) father-in-law that they were not to be trusted based on an encounter his ex-wife had with them about 3 years ago. Well, he apparently forgot and when he thought he needed a new garage door opener, he looked in the yellow pages and picked one of the first names businesses he saw. "Affordable Garage Doors". They apparently gave him a quote of $1349 to instal a 1/2 horsepower Chamberlain opener. It seems to be a quality machine, and worth every penny of the highest retail price of $227 dollars, The installation was without a doubt NOT worth the $1122 dollars (+ tax and a $69 service fee). I found all of this out while moving him into an assisted living facility and gathering his documents for his taxes. Upon inspection of the work done, I noted that the "technician" used the existing mounting brackets and wiring (totally acceptable), but didn't remove the old IR sensors at he door (sloppy and unprofessional), what really made me loose my cool was how the "technician" twisted the wires at the sensors and at the drive unit together without using crimp connectors, wire nuts, not even electrical tape! (totally UN-acceptable, and probably violates code for LV electrical work) (see attached photos) I contacted the owner (Avi, I believe) and told him of the situation, and he kept going back to the fact that the price was agreed upon before the work was done. I told him that I understood that, but that I believe his business is predatory, and the work was substandard. He asked to come over and see what the problem was, so there is that, but after seeing the standard that he expects from his "technicians", I told him not to worry about it and that I would get wire nuts and fix it myself. Then he asked why I hadn't just installed the opener myself if was really looking out for my father-in-law, and asked several times "well, does it work"? Of course it does, the circuit is completed. I just want folks out here to be aware of my experience"

Garage door services FAQs

Garage door repairs cost $260 on average but can range anywhere from $80 to $675. Factors such as the type of repair needed, the style of your garage door, and the material your door is made of all play a part in the final price tag.

For example, wood garage doors look beautiful but are prone to dents, splitting, and cracks that are difficult to fix. You can expect to spend an average of $200 to $300 to repair your wooden garage door. Fiberglass garage doors are more durable and less expensive to fix, averaging around $100 to $200.

The cost of replacing garage door panels is around $1,200 for the average homeowner. However, depending on a few factors, you could pay as little as $250 or as much as $3,000 or more. Considerations like panel style and the type of garage door you have all factor into what you pay.

While sectional garage doors are common among homeowners, they are often the most expensive to replace, averaging around $700 to $2,400. Tilt-up garage doors, which are the simplest door available, range from $400 to $1,400.

Annual to biannual routine garage door maintenance is vital to extending its life as much as possible. Most importantly, noticing any unusual sounds or movements and taking care of them as soon as possible is one of the best ways to maintain your garage door. Keeping the tracks clear of dirt and debris and lubricating the rollers and other moving parts twice a year will also help to get the most out of your door.

Even though garage doors can last 15 to 30 years, it’s important to recognize the signs of wear and tear or other damage that might cause the need for a repair or replacement. A big sign that your garage door needs repair or replacement is the door not opening and closing correctly, including moving slower than usual. Also, if you notice that your garage door is becoming warped or overly weathered, it’s time to call a professional to discuss your options and tips for buying a new garage door.

Garage doors generally last between 15 to 30 years, depending on many factors. Your location plays an essential role in your garage door’s lifespan—doors exposed to harsh elements like heavy rain or intense heat might not last as long as those installed in a milder climate. How often you use your garage door also factors into its overall lifespan. Generally, standard garage door springs can withstand 20,000 cycles, whereas tension springs typically last between 5,000 and 10,000.
