+ -1 moreSee above This is not a first hand report as I was not home. This was recounted to me by my husband who was dealing with the problems with our automated lawn sprinklers.
Description of Work: All we got was a quotation over the phone. The quotation sounded reasonable and responsive. However another company that came to see the problem and give us a quotation, solved it in short order.

+ 0 moreI called West Mesa Sprinklers, and my call was returned the very next day. An appointment was made for two days later, and John arrived promptly. He was pleasant, reassuring, and businesslike. My problem was leaking valves in my system and a pressure-regulator valve not functioning on the dripper section. John replaced several sprinkler heads and installed a new pressure-regulator valve. The system has worked very well ever since.
Description of Work: My sprinkler system had developed several leaks, and a pressure-regulating valve that I installed myself didn't seem to be working.

+ -1 moreI contacted John to come over to review the leaking situation. Later that day, he arrived to diagnost the problem and gave me a quotation. I agreed to it and he scheduled to perform the work in about a week later. A day before the scheduled service day, he called to ask if he can start the work a day later. He was running behind at another job. I said that was fine with me. He arrived on the morning of the new scheduled date and spent the day working on the repairs. John did an excellent and professional job in replacing the valves and repairing the leaks. When the job was done, everything was completely cleaned up. The work area look cleaner then before he got there; he had to dig out a lot of dirt to do the work. A few days later, I was adjusting the screws on the replaced Bonnet in the front sprinkler valve box to stop a small leak when the sprinkler was running. I ended up making the situation worse and creating a major leak. I called John and came out to fix the leak the next day. He did not charge me to fix this leak, even though it was my tinkering that had cause it. I am very happy with John's services and will definitely call him for my next irrigation problem.
Description of Work: Repaired leaks in sprinkler pipes in the valve box area, caused by tree roots and corrosion. John dug out the back yard valve box area, rebuild the sprinkler manifold with four new valves, and replaced a leaking galvanized pipe in the same system. He also replaced a Bonnet assembly on a leaking valve in the front yard sprinkler valve box.

Description of Work: He repaired oil sprinkler system leaks, rebuilt manifold, installed new valve box valves and extension. He replaced back and front shot offs. He installed rotors for lawn, installed drip to flower beds, plants and trees.

+ -1 moreCalled John mid-morning on a Saturday when I found a leak in my sprinkler system. He said he could be there by mid-afternoon. He came, looked at my problem, and said it was a minor one. He fixed it and left, and never even charged me. When I protested, he said he would call it an estimate, and if I had any other problems please call him. How often does that happen these days. I was MOST impressed, and grateful. And when I have a problem again, I will most certainly call him.

+ 0 moreJohn was contacted after seeing his name in Angie's List. We were out of state so we needed someone who was reliable, efficient, and trustworthy. We got all of that from the owner, John Barks. He had previously fixed a timer for the irrigation system. He gave us a reasonable quote for the work that needed to be done along with a time frame for a finish date. When he realized a tree could be saved he contacted us to let us know an alternate course of action. He kept in contact with us and sent before and after pictures of the property's lawn area.
Description of Work: Trees were trimmed back, bushes were pulled out and the sod was removed and replaced and hauled away.

He gave us a realisitic time frame for all of the work that was required on our properties lawn area. Once he found out that the lawn was having to be watered by hand, and although he was busy with other pending jobs, he responded to fix the timer within a few days.

The work required a licensed plumber, but he stayed with me and talked to the plumber on the phone to tell them exactly what need to be done so the plumber would be prepared. This time, I had him come out and check my sprinkler system. He came after hours to fit my schedule, was on time and did the work very quickly. I plan to use him again for some landscaping work.

Description of Work: John has done our sprinkler and irrigation work for many years and we've always been more than happy with the results. A few years ago, we had our pool filled in and had the company that filed in the pool redo our backyard. They installed some sprinklers and supposedly hooked up to the drip system that John had installed for us some years before. We started having trouble with the sprinklers right away, they wouldn't go off. They were still under warranty so we had that company come out several times to correct the problem. The problem continued so we called John. Warranty or not, we had confidence in him. He fixed the problem. The valves were reversed, or something, but the sprinklers have worked properly ever since. A while later, I noticed our trees and shrubs were looking dry and called John. He checked where the previous company had supposedly hooked up the drip system to his existing drip and they hadn't hooked it together. He checked the entire system (front and back) and hooked everything up, placed drips where needed and all our landscaping looks healthy and green now. We had a leak(one that sprays up in the air) one morning, I called John and he repaired it within the hour. The price I estimated is for fixing the sprinkler valves only. I'm not sure it's even correct because I don't remember. Unfortunately, I don't keep very good records and don't really know exactly how much we paid but I know we thought it was reasonable and that we got more than our moneys worth.

+ -1 moreSprinkler would not turn off. John came quickly, diagnosed as a valve problem, and replaced valve which resolved the problem. I was surprised at the charge when I got invoiced. He charged extra for coming from across town to fix the valve. He had not told me he would charge extra. Estimate of cost of part was not what actual cost was. On the other hand, he did come within a short time and was efficient. He fixed the valve and did a good job.

At that time he identified what components and material would be required and called me the following day with the proposed cost. I agreed to the cost and together we identified a future date (5/11/2011) when he would arrive to perform the work. He arrived on 5/11/2011 at the time we had defined. He had all the necessary components and tools needed to complete the work. John dug out a new space in the yard to house the new valve box. As I recall there was an issue with the original water lines due to an unusual approach taken by a different landscaper some 10-15 years ago. John worked with me as we resolved the issue. He was very professional and logical as we went through this process. He did not charge me for this extra effort. John completed the job in a timely manner and when finished he reviewed all the technical details and made sure that I understood how to operate the system and how to program the timer. John was recommended to me by a co-worker of mine. She and her husband were very pleased with the quality of work that John performed. I am very happy with the professional and high quality job that he did for us.
Description of Work: I had a 28 year old lawn sprinkler system that needed major repair. John Barks (the owner operator) replaced a gate valve, two electric zone control valves , a valve box and a system controller/timer. John also relocated the valve box to a better location. He trained me for the details of the system controller/timer.

He corrected a couple of problems with some simple, but sound fixes where others wanted to create complex and expensive solutions. His xeriscape work provided a beautiful landscape solution. I'm considering having him do some more xeriscape landscaping work as soon as I can plan it. With WM Sprinklers, you know who will do the work (John) and he's always professional, competent and courteous.

Description of Work: Category: Drip Systems (not listed) Services performed: Nothing. The owner/provider arranged to come on a week day and was delayed by a big storm and big job. Okay. Later in the week he was still engaged in the same difficult project. So..; these things happen. I appreciated his diligence and honesty. However, after arranging that he would call and try to come for an estimate on Saturday, there was no call, no show. True, I was out for a couple of hours doing my weekend shopping, but our phone has an answering machine which was not used. I never heard from him again. Whatever he has against me, he did not tell me. I am pretty easy to get along with, I speak plain English; my only guess is he did not want to come to the REAL West Mesa, which is one of the poorer neighborhoods, although that is what his business is called.

+ -1 moreHe told me the value that someone installed had glue inside of the pvc pipe, which affected the water flow for the drip system. The lack of water flow was very noticeable. They also didn't install a vacuum value. I should have gone with my instinct and had West Mesa Sprinkler performed the job.

+ -1 moreI had to kiss a lot of (sprinkler system) frogs before I found John Barks at West Mesa. I had paid for so many companies to come and service the system, only to have their work prove less than satisfactory, that making the effort to try yet another one was difficult. It was only when my plants were looking really bad that I went to Angie's list to find yet another company. I chose West Mesa Sprinklers. My plants have revived and so has my faith in quality workmanship. Now I am ready to have John build a waterfall in my back yard...something I have wanted for a long time but have never had faith enough in any company I have previously used to make it happen.
Description of Work: Adjusted and replaced nozzles as needed. Installed new risers. Made sure all emitters in front yard drip system were getting water to correct areas. Adjusted and balanced sprinklers in back yard to cover areas that needed water. Reset timer to schedule I requested and gave me instructions on how to run system manually when I felt that was needed.
