Description of Work: Replaced the parts of a turbo toilet for more than a complete new toilet would have cost. We could have ordered the part ourselves and had it sooner and much less cost. Took three trips out, very inefficient and very expensive.

This gentleman is mistaken on several points. His toilet is a pressure assit toilet and the internal parts are expensive. The job took TWO trips because the parts are not stock items. When our supplier received the parts I promptly picked them up and installed them (They have a second bathroom.). He bought an $89 Plumbing Service Call Deal. The cost of the job was $458.90. I credited him the VALUE of the deal he bought and billed for the difference. My dealings are honest and fair. Expecting completion of a multi-hour job for the price of a one hour deal and then bad mouthing the provider without so much as a phone call to discuss his concerns is unreasonable. Please give us a call. We will treat you right too!

Description of Work: We had one toilet that was leaking and needed the flapper replaced. Since we had two identical toilets of the same age we decided to have the flappers on both toilets replaced. We signed up for an Angie's List $89 toilet tune up. Nelson of Town and country replaced both flapper assemblies, both shut-off valves and re-seated both toilets because he said they were rocking--something we had never noticed. The bill for this was $426.86 on top of the $89.00 we had already paid to Angie's List. | |In the master bathroom we needed a shower head replacement and one of the sinks was partly blocked and drained very slowly. We asked Nelson if he could replace the shower head and unblock the plugged drain. Because the toilet work had taken so long, this would have to entail a second visit. Nelson returned in a couple of weeks with a replacement shower head (he said it cost around $100.00) and proceeded to unblock the drain. He also screwed on the new shower head and returned the shower head we had borrowed from the guest bathroom where he screwed that in place. In the guest bathroom he also re-installed the assembly that diverts the water from the nozzle to the shower head. This assembly had fallen out between his two visits and we were unable to put it back together. That was a simple job if you realized there was a hidden track inside the nozzle (which he did) and that took only a few minutes. The bill for this second visit was $485.20. After both visits Nelson presented an invoice with a narrative of what he did but no itemization of parts and labor. He said that he charged for travel time (no itemization but his trip was 3.1 miles each way). | |I was also disappointed by some of his work. The guest bathroom toilet which was working fine before his tune-up had intermittent episodes of leaking afterward because the new flapper did not seat properly. He adjusted this during his second visit. When he unplugged the drain in the master bathroom he replaced the brushed nickel stopper assembly with one that was shiny chrome without telling us. This looks very out of place.

Response from Town & Country Plumbing Heating Cooling LLC
This gentleman's description of the work I performed is incomplete. In addition to the toilets leaking, he was concerned that his building contractor's laborers had not installed the toilets correctly nine months before and asked me to check them. My mistake, I suppose, was that I did not have him feel them rock for himself. Niether toilet was installed properly with shims to keep them from rocking. Another reason the toilet in the master bath was rocking and loose was that the closet flange, which is connected to the piping under the toilet, rusted away. I replaced the flange and reset both toilets properly. I also replaced the defective water fill valve, which he failed to mention. I also cleared obstructions from BOTH sink drains in the master bath. As far as I remember, the pop up assembly I removed was chrome. But it was an oversight not to have noticed. He could have mentioned it while I was working too. The showerhead was a special order Moen brushed nickel, handheld showerhead and hose. I did not cause the tub/shower diverter to fall apart. He said he tried to fix it and couldn't. While the new flange glue was curing, I started working on the flapper replacement in the second bathroom. He came in and wanted me to hurry so he could use the toilet which I did. I didn't have a chance to check the operation of the new flapper that day. He bought an $89 deal with a one hour value which I credited toward the job, so HE RECEIVED THE SAVINGS HE PAID FOR!. Please do not expect me or any Angieslist provider to work most of a day and charge only the "Angieslist Deal" price! If he was so unhappy with me, why didn't he cancel the second work order? My prices are fair. I stand by them. Also, he did not describe ALL the work he wanted done in his Angieslist order which makes it impossible for me to budget enough time so that other customers scheduled for the day are not inconvenienced. Most shops charge travel time and I'm sure he would not have wanted to pay for the time to itemize the bill. If you worked a job that included driving to and from the job site, would you expect to be paid for your driving time? We do not take advantage of people. We are here to serve you. Please give us a call !

Description of Work: Vendor completed various plumbing tasks from clearing out a slow drain, repairing and replacing faucets to replacing some tub parts. Work was very well done and professional. Only issue was the cost of the replacement parts. Vendor bought/used OEM parts (I have a 1988 house) which cost over $200 for pieces that could have been gotten for around $50 from a Lowes or Home Depot. Other than the high cost, especially for the parts, everything was done timely and well.

The parts that [member name removed] bought from Home Depot or Lowes probably did cost about $50 for one shower valve but they were the wrong parts. I repaired three Moen faucets (tub/shower valves). The needed parts were for old style Moen faucets and are not available at Home Depot or Lowes. Some of the parts I was able to replace with after market parts which are less expensive but some were made by Moen and yes they were expensive. I was glad to get them at all. The alternative would have been to replace the entire tub/shower valves in the walls which would have cost many hundreds of dollars.

Description of Work: Town and Country was on time. I wanted the master garden tub checked out because the cold water was on and off again. He replaced the cartridges in both handles and checked the flow for blockage. |I had a new cartridge for the kids' bathroom cold water handle, which he put in. He "leveled" the handles of the faucets in Kids' and master bath sinks so they are more or less in the same off position. |He got less done than I had expected for two hours. I had other things he didn't get to. I can replace the cartridges fairly fast usually so had estimated he could finish my entire list. Quite a bit of time was spent in his truck(writing up quote? finding correct cartridges for bath?) and turning off and on and off and on the water at the street. Since I am not a plumber, I may be unfair in this assessment. He was friendly and polite. He offered a quote for other work- putting in two sink plugs and an aerator for around $250 inc.parts- but I declined because we can do that ourselves. Quote seemed high to me but, again, I seldom use a plumber so those prices may be quite within norm.

I worked efficiently and did not purposely waste time as he implies. Plumbing work is harder than it looks and since, as he said, he is not a plumber, how would he know how much time the various jobs should take. We provide honest work at fair prices and will for you too! Give us a call at 292-5856!
