When the technician arrived an hour late he inspected my furnace and outdoor unit. Much to my dismay I was informed that cleaning the coils on the outdoor unit would be an extra $80. I felt like this was a complete bait and switch. I was told it was so expensive because the spray that is used is costly. I looked it up on google an found the same stuff for about $10 a can. The tech did a good job of cleaning both the inside and outside units but I do not think that this was a $150 value. In the future I will buy the $10 worth of spray and clean it myself.
Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" which stated it included A/C cleaning and tune up. Unfortunately the A/C cleaning did not include the coils. But for $80 extra they would gladly clean the coils.

I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for this tune-up and the receptionist called to set up an appointment a day later. I indicated I would like the work done that day if possible, and she was able to accomodate my request. Josh was at my home within an hour after the phone call, and he initiated the A/C tune-up. Early on, Josh indicated that my A/C condensor coils were dirty and they would need a cleaning which would be another $80 plus tax. I expressed concern that the Big Deal included A/C cleaning, however, I authorized this additional work as I wanted my A/C unit to run properly. Josh then performed the work in a timely and professional manner. I feel that it is important for this contractor to clearly exclude condensor coil cleaning from their Big Deal work scope so future customer won't misunderstand as apparently I did.
Description of Work: Spring A/C tune-up in accordance with the Angie's List Big Deal. The deal included an A/C inspection, an A/C cleaning, and an A/C tune-up. It was priced at $59.99.

After moving in we had several drains leak but overall the radiant heat and work was done well. In 2013 we learned that our water supply line was not buried deep enough and froze January 11-14, 2013. It is strongly suspected that the copper line was never wrapped or buried at the proper depth like it should have been. We paid dearly for this as this was our first winter trip that we were gone 3 days and the temps got down to around 10 degrees outside. We had no water for 18 days and no water was run during that 3 days but if the supply had been installed correctly we would never had returned to a frozen supply line. It was deduced that it was the supply line installation that caused the situation.

Sunshine called to remind us of the service. Josh arrived within ten minutes of suggested time to perform an annual flush and check-up of our Rinnai tankless water heater. Josh was professional and was very familiar with unit. He took time to explain what he was doing as well as pointed out areas to look for potential problems. He did not presume to know all the details when asked about a recirculating system, but referred me to a co-worker. I appreciated the honesty. Josh thoroughly cleaned up upon completion, then reminded us of a discount we asked about earlier. I called the co-worker, Jeremiah, about the recirculating system. His explanation what our hot water system needed was clear and simple, easy to understand. Again, another honest reply. We will recommend Sunshine Plumbing and Heating to anyone.

This was the best technician I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He wanted me to know that this was going to work the way it was met to work.. We have not had any problems with the tankless system.
Description of Work: Rinni system was put in by this company a few years back. We started to have problems with it shutting off after running. After coming to the house and looking at how it was installed the technician acknowledged that it had not been installed properly. He stated that the company would replace it as no cost. I was so pleased with this technician for the simple reason that he didn't walk away until it was working perfectly. The company was very supportive in making sure it was done right this time. It is important to state that the company is under new management.

The final HVAC system is a great system, but getting to that point was definitely more difficult and complicated than it should have been. First, gettign through to this company on their phone line is next to impossible. The woman who answers the phone does not speak English well and either does not understand why you are calling or hangs up on you. Every time we left messages, they were not returned and we did not get a response until we called the owner directly on his cell phone. During quotation of the system itself, we were informed that they hadn't installed many humidifiers. As it turns out, they actually never installed this specific combination (Carrier with a Honeywell Humidifier). An additional relay was required to operate the humidifier, and it wasn't initially installed with our system. This caused the humidifier to run non-stop for one month without air movement. The collection of water in the duct work had to go somewhere and that somewhere was out the duct work, into the ceiling insulation, through the dry wall and onto our garage floor. During time we noticed that the system wasn't functioning properly and before the water on the garage floor we emailed and called Sunshine without a response (the issue with the woman answering the phones again). Ultimately, we located a cell phone for our project lead at Sunshine and finally got a response. Sunshine then followed up with the manufacture and determined that the additional relay needed to be installed. They installed it and the system functioned as it should. At the time we were reassured that they would fix the dry wall and all issues caused by the humidifier once we were sure things were functioning properly. In April 2012, having not heard back from Sunshine on the repair plans for the damage, we contacted them to figure out what the plan was. They sent out technicians out to repair the humidifier rather than the damage. This was clearly erroneous as they had already repaired the humidifier and we only needed the drywall damage repaired at this point. When they arrived we discussed that the humidifier was repaired in Dec 2012 and that we needed them to fix the damage it caused. Over the course of the next six months, with multiple calls to coordinate the repair progress, and multiple days off of work, the dry wall damage was repaired and the ceiling repair completed in Sept 2012. From start to finish the entire process took over 6 months to get resolved when the unit should have been installed correctly the first time and a quick response should have been made to ensure no further damage occurred. The humidifier situation was compounded by the fact that the installation team also damaged our the exterior of our roof while installing the compressor unit. At the time of installation we were reassured that it would be fixed. Again there was no follow up on this. It was only when the garage ceiling (in the same area as the damage to the roof) started to leak that the roof damage was addressed. Overall, after many long months and many calls, all issues were resolved and our system functions as it should. However getting to that point was a struggle that would keep us from recommending this team to others.
Description of Work: They installed a Carrier Infinity Air conditioner (two stage, 16 SEER),furnace (two stage, variable, 80%) and control module along with a Honeywell TrueSteam humidification system.

The installer explained everything about the water heater and said if I had any questions at anytime to call him.

I had a couple of estimates, but Jeremiah from Sunshine spent time analyzing the original duct system which has been extended to an add-on room at the end of the line, completely at the opposite end from where the heating/AC units reside. The home's original design (built in 1972) was not effective in delivering any heat or AC to the last 2 rooms. Jeremiah had me run the old AC blower so he could assess the air flow (or lack of) at all of the registers. He also analyzed the return air into the very small furnace closet in the overall design for the new system. He proposed easy modifications for the air flow system with a contingent 30 foot new duct run in case the easier modifications did not produce the desired results after the install. Jeremiah's total system experience was what made me choose Sunshine. He scheduled all of the installation tasks, oversaw the project from beginning to end, and made sure I was completely satisfied. Glenn and Ramon, were the experienced installers, completing the project on time, and also to our satisfaction. All the people involved in the installation were very professional, and both my wife and I enjoyed them throughout the project. We have used and enjoyed the comfort of the AC for the last 2 months, even the air flow coming out of the 2 registers at the end of the line has been effective without having to install the contingent 30 foot duct run.
Description of Work: Sunshine removed 11 year old furnace & swamp cooler. Installed top of the line Carrier Infinity, 2 stage heating / refrigerated cooling system. Replaced 100 amp breaker box with large 200 amp breaker box needed for new AC system. Installed and ran new wiring to condenser unit on roof, and wired/plumbed for new system. Sunshine worked with city and PNM to acquire all required permits, and successful inspections. Altered existing duct system registers, increased the size of one of the furnace room input vents, as well as adding a new, large input vent, to obtain effective air flow for both heating and cooling.

January will be our last business with this company. During the second visit, the estimator arrived on time, but he spent the most of the visit texting on his smart phone. He could barely hold up his end of the conversation. He was so rude, that I should have asked him to leave immediately. The plumber arrived on time. The work of replacing a rusted out washing machine valve and the surrounding box was completed; however, the plumber failed to relight the water heater that he had turned off. It's a good thing that my husband knows how to do that. Scheduling service is always problematic. English is not this woman's first language. Even after I repeated the spelling of my name and address three times, she still got it wrong. It's time to for us to find a new plumber, and you too should look elsewhere.
Description of Work: We have utilized this company on three occasions. The latest was in January 2012. The three jobs were to: replace a leaking outdoor spigot in back yard, replace arusted out washer valve and surrounding box, and replace a leaking outdoor spigot in the front yard.

I would grade them highly on my overall experience. Their responsiveness is very good. They have been responding. They are very punctual. They are very professional. They had the air conditioner turned on and it cooled quite quickly, but it was cold that day. We got it in the winter because it is cheaper in the winter. The guys who installed the air conditioner were very nice. They worked so hard. The manager who gave the bid came back and checked what they were doing. They are really very nice people.

We have used them before for other projects. We scheduled an appointment for them to service the heating system because we had several zones that were not functioning. When he arrived, he reviewed the current system that we had and described for us what our experience was with the system. He was spot on. He then detailed what he could do to mitigate the problems, describing the pros and cons. He also detailed the option of replacing the existing unit with a new, energy-efficient unit that was designed for situations like ours; describing the pros and cons. We elected to replace the existing unit with the new one. On the day the installation was scheduled, it snowed in the area. Schools were closed, along with some businesses and government offices. My only complaint about the whole process is that they did not call to tell me they were not going to make it to do the installation. I had to chase them by phone to finally get that word. We reset the appointment for a couple days later. They showed up on time and worked into the evening hours to get the installation complete and functioning. The next morning we discovered that the valve for one zone would not close properly. They responded promptly at the agreed upon time to replace that sticking valve and to review the operation of the entire system. I graded them a B for Responsiveness only because I had to chase them about the first appointment being snowed out. After that, they did a good job of keeping us informed about the status of the project. I graded them a C for Price because we did not get any breaks in that regard. It was an expensive job. On the other hand, I am much more interested in VALUE than price. We appear to have received excellent value for the price that we paid. The system is working well, the heat in the home is well balanced (for the first time ever) and we have heat in every area of the house, including some areas where we have never had heat before. It was expensive, but so far worth every penny. I graded them A's on everything else. They earned it.
Description of Work: We have radiant hot water heat in the slab. They installed a new heating system for us; new boiler, pumps and zone valves. The overall experience was excellent. First time I have talked with someone who actually knows what they are talking about with respect to these heating systems. He detailed what our experience was just by looking at the system configuration, and he was spot on in his analysis. He explained why the old system was not suitable for the demand being placed on it. Since it was an extremely energy inefficient older unit, we decided to replace it. The new system is working well. We have heat in areas of the house where we have never before been able to get heat.

My furnace blower fan started to make metal to metal noises on Sunday. Called Sunshine Mon morning. It was snowing, blowing, and the temp was about 20. Tech came out that morning and said that, indeed, blower motor was failing, but, that it would probably last long enough for him to order parts. He left. 4 am in the morning my fire alarm went off. There was burning metal smell coming from the vents. I ran down to turn off heater. Called Sunshine at 7:45. Outside temp was 20. Another tech came about noon. Spent hour and a half disassembling heater (heater in closet outdoors). Said cold didn't bother him (I think he lied:). Spent 2 hours to go to 4 supply houses to find replacement motor. Spent another hour and a half putting everything back together. It was dark and cold and most would probably have bailed until next day, but, he didn't quit until he got it working. I had tried to improve the working conditions with a (small) space heater and holding a flashlight, but, he was surrounded by snow and ice and conditions were just plain miserable. All this time he had a couple of sweatshirts on and NO gloves (working space too tight and screws too small). Tough dude! Great service. Thanks! I didn't grade the price because I didn't solicit other bids, so, cannot comment. Given the circumstances and time spent the amount charged seemed quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Diagnosis and repair of failing home gas furnace. Blower motor had run dry and frozen. All this was in the middle of a cold snap, including snow and winds. Tech also had to go to 4 different supply houses to find a replacement motor because the furnace is 18 years old.

Sunshine met with us to discuss our problems with the existing system and suggested a course of action (install two units, one upstairs and resize downstairs unit). Other HVAC contractors looked at the problem we were experiencing (poor air flow upstairs) and either made similar suggestions or flat out refused the work based on the size of the job. Work was started in early June with estimated completion of one week. This turned out to be a one month project from deposit to final green sticker, much of which was beyond the contractor's control (city inspector scheduling problems). Problems: The upstairs unit was determined to be the best place to start (since it was a new system and no system existed yet). We were promised that we would have cooling available upstairs during the duration of the work. This was not the case -- the workers left us a disconnected system for two whole nights, with temperatures above 90 degrees in our rooms. After bringing it to the attention of the project manager, the upstairs system was finally connected and then we had cold air in our room. Work began on the removal and installation of the downstairs system. The only problem encountered was that they agreed to duct in our return air but when I inspected the return, only a portion of the return was ducted. I asked for ducting all the way to the furnace, not just the pedestal since the pedestal was not air-tight and had exposed fiberglass insulation. This was not discovered until after the furnace and condenser coil were installed and as such, it would have been major effort to remove these to fix the problem. We chose to not fight it since the work was not on the original estimate. Overall, we are satisfied with the work, but some of the choices made did affect comfort somewhat -- the location of the upstairs thermostat was placed in stagnant air, and the upsized ducts upstairs make the master bedroom a little too hot/cold when the system runs due to higher air velocity in the ducts blowing directly on us while we sleep. There was no engineering done on the system, rather, the installers relied on the original design of the homebuilder. Also, there were numerous code issues to be solved, which was unexpected given the experience of the company. These issues were resolved and we passed code inspection after the re-inspection. Our advice to others: consider this company for your needs, but make sure to get all work in writing before agreeing to do the work. Also, consider that the city/county inspector office is unreliable. Twice they failed to show when scheduled. We are generally satisfied in the end.
Description of Work: This was a major HVAC system rework of a system that was existing in the house we recently purchased. Sunshine replaced the poorly functioning single forced air furnace and air conditioner with two systems, one upstairs and one downstairs. Along with the HVAC work, an upgrade to the electrical panel to 200A service was subcontracted by Sunshine (the overall contractor). Installation of the upstairs HVAC unit required an additional gas line, electrical line, and new ductwork to the attic of the house. The downstairs unit was resized appropriately for the area of the downstairs since this unit is no longer servicing the upstairs portion of the house.

They were excellent. They knew what they were doing. They were efficient where other plumbers we had out said the job was impossible. This guy said they were wrong and it took him an hour. He was really good. He had to take out two toilets and reinstall new toilets. We live out of Albuquerque so there is a service charge to come out here from everyone. The cost included that service charge and the toilets, they are expensive toilets. We priced it with other people and they were asking for $600 each.

This was a major overhaul of our system on an older house. Problems led us to explore having the system replaced, but our earlier experience with Brandon who came out after hours and had to figure out our problems was great. I felt like he treated us like his own parents! We then asked for an assessment and estimate to replace our entire heating and `cooling system and water heater. A crew came out to look at our systems, go into the roof and under the house. Jerimiah discussed options with us several times in detail beforehand, patiently dealing with both my husband and myself who had different ideas. The job involved removing all the old machines including the AC on the roof, repairing the roof, insulating duct work under the house and installing a new tankless water heater as well. The work took about a week to complete. I did stop the crew on the second day because I was not happy with the installation at that point. However, the supervisor did come and agreed with the changes I asked for right away. They made every effort to please. The system works great so far, but we have not used the air conditioner yet. I believe we were given a pretty good price in view of the quality of the system and the amount of labor involved, however, I did not do any comparisons. Everyone I dealt with was cheerful and patient. They seemed very knowledgeable, skilled, and efficient. Nice neat work .

No problems. They came, pulled out the old unit, re did the plumbing lines to meet code, worked on the roof to install new outlets. Took most of the day, all work and special outlets were included. No extra pricing. I investigated several plumbing companies in the Albuquerque area and while this company was not the cheapest they did come in at the mid point for all Rinnai dealers.

Service call went well. However, my husband did inquire of the service person about doing a soap test to check for any leaks. The service person responded that it wasn't necessary as it wouldn't leak. Well he was wrong and we had to call a few hours later when we noticed that there was a leak (the fact that the first person didn't do a soap test, even after we asked, is the only reason I gave them a B in quality). They were very prompt in sending another person out to fix it. Unfortunately they are located on the east side of town and we are on the west side and the poor guy got stuck in afternoon rush hour, so it took him a while to actually get here. But he did a soap test, located the leak and tightened the connections. No problems since.
Description of Work: Had Sunshine hook up a new gas cooktop to an existing gas stub out that had never been used.
