 + -1 moreI called Simmons at around 3:00 PM on Thursday afternoon and we set up an appointment to have the work done between 9:00 and 10:00 AM the next morning. A little after 9:00 AM the next morning I got a call from the Plumber, Roy, who had been assinged our work saying he was on the way and would be at our house in about 15 minutes. He was quick and efficient and wasted no time doing his work. At the same time he was friendly and sociable. He welcomed my looking over hiis shoulder while he worked and it was a pleasure talking to him. When the work was done everything was to my satisfaction and the clean-up was excellant. There is no way this could have gone any better and i will use Simmons Plumbing the next time i have need of a plumber and would heartily reccommend them to anyone else who needs plumbing work done.
Description of Work: They replaced the old hose bibs around the house and reset a toilet.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreCalled to get an estimate, I was happy that they could out the same day. I was interested in a tankless water heater and was told someone would be by between 3pm and 5pm. I called at 5:05pm and got an answering machine and left a message wondering if someone was still coming by. I finally got a call from a tech at 5:30 simply asking if I was home to come so he could come over for the estimate. I told him I was home but no longer available for an estimate, he said, and quot;Well, I'll try again tomorrowand quot;. I said no thank you, I was not really interested in doing business with a company who does not at least call within the estimate time frame (when I had stayed home from work to get it) and that I would be going with another company. He said very sarcastically and quot;Good for youand quot; and hung up. Very unprofessional, and not even an and quot;I'm sorry I could not call earlier, or that you were inconveniencedand quot;. I would look elsewhere for your plumbing needs in Albuquerque.

 + -1 moreOverall my experience with David was great. He was very open and honest about work that we were requesting. The initial request would have cost much more, and would have been in his favor just to do what I was asking for. Instead he highlighted some things we should consider that may not have been optimal for us before moving forward. After additional research based on David's input we found a far more affordable option that met all our needs. He was very friendly and did a great job on the installation helping to find solutions that met our needs while minimizing the cost. The work was done nearly a year ago and has been working without issue since. I would definitely hire them again. I would also recommend the AO Smith Vertex 100 water heater (we purchased through pexsupply) if you are looking for continuous hot water. That is the water heater we ultimately went with after looking at tankless and we have been very happy with that choice.
Description of Work: David Simmons installed a high efficiency water heater, a pressure reducer, and a new shutoff valve. The water heater also required a special exhaust line that he installed as well.

 + 0 moreDean from Simmons came out to take a look at a remodel job for which I needed some basic plumbing work done. Dean was courteous, professional, and listened to my ideas. However, at the end of the visit, I asked Dean to follow up the visit with an estimate or proposal of work, and that was the last time I heard from Dean or anyone else at Simmons. If a contractor isn't interested in the work, the contractor should just say so. As a result, I lost at least 2 weeks of project time waiting around for a response that was never forthcoming.

Description of Work: We had a Williams wall furnace installed after removing the older unit at my 83 year old Dads house. They were very professional and completed the job as promised. They also updated the exhaust pipe on the roof.

 + -1 moreMy furnace was not working. I called them on Saturday and they sent the owner the same day to repair my furnace. He was on time and he spent 20 minutes finding problem and repairing it. He was honest and pleasant. I am planning on calling them tomorrow again to help me with plugged shower and some other things.
Description of Work: This company is very professional and they are honest. As a real estate broker I have dealt with many different companies and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreIn the end, I spent $100 for a part that made my situation worse. I also feel like I was dumped by my plumbing company, though as they never charged me for labor, I suppose I can't complain. Still, I won't be using them again, nor recommending them to people I know.
Description of Work: I had had Simmon's Plumbing out previously to work on my Bosch tankless hot water heater. They made some minor repairs that helped, but then I started having even more problems and contacted them again. They sent someone out in mid-July, who spent several hours poking around at the insides of the water heater. He told me I had a defective part, so I contacted Bosch and ordered the part the plumber said I needed. Once that arrived, he came back and installed it, and it didn't change anything. If anything, our water heater worked worse. At this point it did not come on automatically at all due to something the plumber had done; when we wanted hot water we had to turn on the tap and then run to the garage to light the pilot light manually with a lighter. This was around July 22nd. The plumber came out several times more, and would spend an hour or so in our garage, testing and trying things. Nothing seemed to make any difference, as we still had to light the pilot light manually whenever we wanted hot water. The last time I saw anyone from Simmon's, he said he was stumped and would consult with another plumber at the company and call me back the following week. It took about a month before I realized that they had never called or come over again. I still haven't heard from them. In October, I contacted another company (Sunshine Plumbing & Heating), who came out that day and pointed out a dozen things that could be wrong with my heater. I ultimately ended up having them replace the entire system.

Time charge seemed a little pricey....charged for time not only at the residence doing work, but also for time from shop, to the store for parts, and back to the shop after work was done. Others would charge for only time spent at the residence. Also, wouldn't it normally be a business cost to have to run for parts not on hand? Overall though, we were satisfied for a job well done, and he rated an A. He gave a discount as Angie's members. We would recommend with some explanation and most likely use their services again.
Description of Work: Replaced two toilet valves, water lines, flanges/wax rings, and tightened the loose toilets to floor.

 + 0 moreThey charged us $138 for their services. They did a very nice job. They were the second people who came out and did the job because the first people didn't do anything. We liked them very much because they did a good job. We then asked them to come and make a bid for replacing our heating and cooling systems together. That was on the 28th of September and they said they would get back to us with the bid. We called them twice, but nobody came out to bid on the new project. So, that's the only negative thing about the experience. However, they were very good. We liked the guy and we liked what they did. We think they didn't really want to make a bid. They did a good and thorough job with our cooling system. The people who had come out before had just walked through it and not done anything. We were disappointed when they didn't come back with the bid. We have to probably call them again. Their price was a little bit lower than another guy who came out. So, we think their price was right and that's what we had expected. We haven't got an experience with a lot of pricing. They responded immediately for the first job, but they haven't responded at all for the bid. They were right on with their punctuality. We will have them come out here and work for us if they will. They are the best among the people we have had so far.
Description of Work: We used the services of Simmons Plumbing & Heating Co on September 28th. They cleaned our cooler and switched over the heating system from the cooling system. They found a leaky water pipe which they fixed as well.

 + -1 moreThe work went well and I was happy that it only took one day. The guy doing the job encountered some unexpected problems along the way, but he was able to overcome them easily. It certainly wasn't a delicate job, so it's hard to give a good evaluation. However, the one negative I would say was that I did have some cleaning up to do after the guy finished the work. But overall I was happy with their work and happy with the price.
Description of Work: Simmons ripped out two old gas-burning wall heaters. The larger heater in the living room was replaced with a newer gas-burning, thermostat-controlled heater.

We wanted to install one standard toilet and one with a power flush, but the suppliers in the Abq area didn't have the power version in stock in the right color. The Kohler suppliers wanted $110 to expedite shipping (still would have been fifteen days or so - that's a rip off). Other than that, everything was done as we wanted. The rep from Simmons was friendly and helpful, as were the two service people involved (1 to install the toilets and 1 to clean the drain line). We'd certainly use this company again.

 + -1 moreThey were terrific. Our kitchen drain started leaking on a Friday. I called two places and they could not respond. I did not want to have it leak all weekend. Simmons said that they could have Dean come out right away. He fixed the leak and was so good we kept finding things for him to do. He fixed two leaky faucets, the bathroom drain, reseated two toilets and fixed a leaky hose bib. He worked continuously through lunch and was very efficient a good to deal with. It turned out it was his birthday. It was a huge relief to get all this work that had been bothering us out of the way. We got the Angie's List coupon also. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Description of Work: Air Conditioner went on the fritz. Husband tried to fix it to no avail and it was getting hot in here! Called on Simmons and they came out Friday evening in 1 hour and rewired at the thermostat and also on the roof. He definitely knew what he was doing and we were so pleased!

 + 0 moreWhen checking the furnace, Roy eliminated the obvious reasons for it not to run. Because it was 15 years old and no parts had been replaced, he suggested a new circuit board ($258) and a new vacuum switch ($27). After checking his parts, he would have to return the next day, which he did. He informed me that Bryant had updated their boards to improve the efficiency of the furnace. When he cleaned the squirrel cage, a piece of thermal paper which had ignited at some point was removed! This could have contributed to the loud shut-off noise we had been experiencing for years. And, it could have caused a fire. The furnace runs like a dream. Roy returned approximately two weeks later and made the plumbing repairs in the bathrooms; I set the date for these repairs. The bathroom fixtures were all Moen parts which are guaranteed for life. There was no charge for any parts. I appreciated his honesty. He knew exactly what to do and did it well. I asked him to check a heat pump installed 5 years ago. He informed me that two connecting hoses should have been copper to meet code. These will be changed out at a later date. I will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Simmons Plumbing repaired our 15 year old Bryant furnace which was not running. Roy arrived promptly and immediately went to work. He cleaned the squirrel cage and checked all the obvious reasons for the furnace not to run. He returned the next day and replaced the circuit board and vacuum switch. He also found the reason for the loud shut-off noise which three other workmen had been unable to locate, loose baffles. The furnace has never run more quietly or efficiently. (Cost: $684) He returned to repair two bathtubs leaking from the faucets with new stems and changed out two lavatory popouts in the bathroom sinks. There have been no leaks or drips. (Cost: $219) A 5% Angie's List Discount was credited to both bills.

 + 0 moreRoy Simmons is an extremely prompt, courteous, and professional serviceman. During an extremely cold snap last winter, we (along with many others) had a burst pipe in the house. Although we called Simmons Plumbing only AFTER their schedule had completely filled up for the next two days, Roy found time to squeeze in an appointment and had the pipe fixed that afternoon. What was even more important and more welcome was that he also fixed the furnace, which had shut itself down due to flooding from the burst pipe. A competing HVAC company had sent a man over, who had refused even to look at the furnace due to the alleged and quot;dangerand quot; of a damp crawl space. Roy found the problem and had the heat back on in under ten minutes. I cannot recommend anyone more highly. Simmons Plumbing and Heating is an excellent company.
Description of Work: In the course of three visits over two months, Simmons plumbing replaced an old-fashioned bathtub drain with a modern P-trap, fixed a leaky bathtub faucet, installed a new kitchen faucet, repaired a burst pipe, and fixed an inoperative furnace.
