I got a chip in my windshield on a Thursday...on Friday I called Safelite...they gave me a quote over the phone and told me they could be out to my house that afternoon between noon and 4...technician showed up at noon...he repaired the chip in about 30 minutes...technician was very professional and explained the entire process to me as worked on the windshield.

My insurer USAA set up appointment for approximate time next day of between 1:00 and 5:00 pm. I received email confirmation from Safelite immediately. At about 1:00 pm on scheduled day Landon called to let me know he was only a few blocks away.He was extremely professional throughout explaining exactly what he was doing and why. Then explained amount of bill and warranty.

Everything was fine -- arrived on time, did a good job (as nearly as I can tell until it rains) -- until the repairman left. Then I realized that (despite having said toward the end that he just had to "clean up" or somesuch) he hadn't used a dropcloth during the repair nor a vacuum afterward, leaving a liberal dusting of abrasive grit and the odd larger chunks over the front part of the passenger compartment. Hopefully I sucked it all out of the defroster vents and so forth with my own vacuum cleaner, but really, if you have to shampoo and vacuum your own car after a repair for lack of a fifty-cent sheet of plastic film, it's got to leave you with an abrasive, gritty taste in your mouth. The C in professionalism is due solely to this. I mentioned this in a feedback form at the Safelite website and after more than a week have yet to get any response from them. Update (10/1/09) Previously (Nov 13) I downgraded "professionalism" to a C for lack of cleanup and the abrasive grit left in the car, and stated, "I mentioned this in a feedback form at the Safelite website and after more than a week have yet to get any response from them." And I never did.

My husband shopped around for the best estimate to get my car windshield replaced. Safelite offered the best rate through their website. When he called to get more information & to set up an appointment, they quoted a higher rate. So he explained he received a better quote through their website. My husband was then placed on hold, and when the phone rep returned to the phone, my husband was quoted an even better quote than either the previous phone quote & the web quote! Additionally, we thought we would have to take our car in for the better rate, but the quote included home service. So my husband scheduled for the 1st Saturday I'd be home so that we wouldn't have to bother switching cars (I work, he's retired). They were able to accommodate us in every way and promised to call before arriving. Saturday morning, as we ate breakfast, the call came in. The technician said something about "right around the corner," but either my hubby misunderstood or the tech was misusing a cliche. We were able to finish our breakfast & clean up when the tech arrived. While the tech looked very young (Scott Pope), his demeanor was impressively professional. His work was done before estimated time, asked if I liked the job, provided me with the dos and don'ts for curing, provided me with written instructions as well (Safelite standard), a pre-work inspection form (to insure against further damage during job, I suppose), business card, and a chance to complete a customer survey to Safelite. All this tells me Safelite is committed to customer satisfaction. It wasn't until the following Monday on my way to work that I noted the fine brown dust on my steering column, white marks on the steering wheel, & white debris on the passenger seat. My husband vacuumed the debris the following morning & noticed the vinyl by the windshield vent was scratched. These discoveries were the most disappointing of the whole experience.
