The job looked better than I imagined it would when finished! They were always there at the same time every day and did the whole job in five days. Any changes made were done without complaint. They moved a lot of rock and sagebrushes in a short amount of time!
Description of Work: They removed 0.8 acres of sagebrush and disposed of it. They put down weed blocking fabric along both sides of our long drive and around the house and then put down rocks and a crushed rock pathway bordered in cobblestones all around the house. Also the cobbles bordered the long drive. They were generous with the cobbles-approx two feet wide and several stones deep. The path meandered attractively. Pete (the salesman) was there every day to make sure things were going the way the job was planned and Oscar the foreman always checked with us to be sure of what we wanted if he had any questions. All of the workers were very courteous and agreeable to have around.

Tom was prompt in coming over to provide a free estimate of the work to be done. Communication after that was a bit sparse as I received an email with an invoice with no instructions as to what to do next thus I had to call and ask what it is they wanted done. Had to print out the invoice and remit half payment of total in order to begin the process. The only issue arose when I received a phone call at 7am the day of tree removal that workers would be at my house within the hour. I had no contact prior to that to set up date and time of service and had to scramble to prepare access to my backyard. The workers were promptly on time, very professional, took down the tree and cleaned all debris before they left. Would certainly recommend Narrow Leaf to others looking for this service.

Hi member, yes I could have done a better job of setting up the removal day with you. We had an unexpected opening that allowed us to remove your tree earlier than scheduled that day but needed to call early to see if it was okay, didn't expect to wake you, I'm very sorry.

They are very good at what they do. I got a lot of compliments. They did a beautiful job. We are really happy with the end result. They took little bit longer than what we had thought. They did run overtime. They did a really nice job which was worth waiting for. They were very good about cleaning up. They were very good about communication. I really appreciate that. I told them upfront that I was flexible as long as they just don’t show up. They were always here when they said. They always called when if there was any delay of any kind. They had a little problem and they kept me informed about that. I’m very pleased about their communication. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Narrow Leaf Inc probably six or seven years ago. They took out all the bushes in my front yard. They took out half of the grass to put in a sizable deck and a fountain in the backyard.

The work was performed by specialists in each area (i.e. ramada construction/installation, concrete, stucco). Everyone we met from the owner and field supervisor to the construction crew members was professionally courteous and personable, highly skilled in their area of expertise, and clearly answered our questions. We understood how each project would be completed along with the actual cost; there were no surprises. This is a locally owned company, so if there are any problems in the future we can easily contact them and arrange for a timely correction. Narrow Leaf offers a wide range of landscape-related home improvement services and we plan to use them again for additional projects.
Description of Work: Built a concrete patio extension off the master BR, installed a custom size aluminum ramada above the full patio, and constructed a privacy wall around the entryway courtyard.

Once we obtained approval from our HOA and once the weather cooperated, the project went smoothly. One crew handled the irrigation system, the grading, the flagstone, etc while another did the deck and pergola work, the shade-structure for the dog-run and installed a special wood fence with gate for the dog-run. Both crews did high-quality work and paid a lot of attention to detail. Overall the craftsmanship was excellent. And here's a special shout-out to Mr. Brasby for his design and production of the dog-run's wood fence and gate.
Description of Work: In 2011 we purchased a new home with a relatively large backyard...the front yard was landscaped but not the back. We had Mr. Tom Brasby and his Narrow Leaf crews grade the backyard so that proper drainage would occur, build a large dog-run area with a shade-structure (we have three dogs, two of whom are quite large), build a deck with a covering shade-structure or pergola, install a water feature, put down a LARGE area of flagstone (with "Santa Fe brown" rocks or gravel in areas where the flagstone wasn't), and install an irrigation/drip system for all of the new plants and trees in the backyard. In addition, concrete was poured for a large slab in the dog-run and for a sidewalk leading from the west side of the house to the front, and raised planters (with a nice-looking veneer) were built for my wife's irises and other special flowers that she will be planting this spring.

The crew showed up on time and did all the clean up clearing work first. Shade structure was built, there was a little delay because the foreman got the flu! No big deal, they got right back on it and also gave me a little credit on the bill for the delay. The structure turned our great, just what we wanted! Next the concrete guys came on a Saturday and did a beautiful job of laying the concrete. Since it is winter we had to wait for the weather to get warm enough so they could cut sod. Sod was laid last wee, fescue, looks great! Can't wait for spring to see it get freen. We had a leak in the sprinkler valve box after the first week. Narrow Leaf came out first thing the next day after I called them and fixed it right away. In addition, they gave me more credit on my bill for the inconvenience and the increase on our water bill. We have a dog and had to board her 2 extras and they also paid for that! What was most impressive was how clean the crews were each day. We left them alone and each day we came home the work area was spotless. I will use them again if we have other work! Thanks Tom!
Description of Work: Narrow Leaf removed two trees and and old fenced dog run. Prompt response, gave a competitive quote for all the work above. I asked about the equipment that would be used, and was assured that they had the appropriate equipment and tools. Workmen arrived on schedule and were responsive and polite. Unfortunately, "appropriate equipment" turned out to be a ladder, a chainsaw, and a chipper that broke down. No cherry-picker or boom. The elms were removed with some collateral damage to adjacent desert willows. The large cottonwood limb was sawn off by a workman balancing at the top of the inadequate ladder and holding the large chainsaw at arms length. He was clearly in a vulnerable position, so I climbed the tree and belayed him with a climbing rope, so as not to have blood shed on the property! He was grateful. The limb eventually broke off with rough edges, destroying the ladder (fortunately he wasn't on it at the time) and damaging the fence. With some difficulty, he trimmed the limb stump - but only after his boss came out to replace the chain, which was dull. The crew repaired the fence. The removal of tree roots and repaving of the brick walkway was done very well. Overall: Workmen were all nice guys with good skills and attitude. I would hire them again for smaller landscaping jobs, but they were clearly underpowered for this job and the owner didn't have, or wasn't willing to rent appropriate gear. Worker safety did not seem to be a priority.
Description of Work: Cut down and remove several medium sized elm and mulberry trees. Cut a major branch off a large cottonwood. Take up bricks on yard walkway that had been pushed up by roots, remove large roots, and re-pave with the same bricks.

You were nice to work for and were very pleasant. Our decision to not use a lift was to save you money. We determined that branch could be removed by ladder to keep your costs down. It was not a decision to endanger our men. Thank you for your concern for our guys. Everyone likes that spirit, but, "bloodshed" may be a bit much. Chains dull and sometimes equipment breaks. We fixed them quickly and finished the job. Sorry to have disappointed you. A lift would have made it easier, just tried to save you some money that's all. Tom

Tom and his crew (led by Oscar) were great. Tom was flexible with scheduling, especially when he found out we were moving and needed to have the trees taken out before we rent the house. He moved us up about a week in the schedule to make it happen. The crew arrived promptly at 8 am and had the bulk of the work finished by 10:30am on the scheduled date. The team worked quickly and well, and were really good at removing one tree that was surrounded by power lines--even the trunk was wrapped around the power pole's anchor cable. They removed all the branches and small stuff, and left the large logs (at our request) to be cut for firewood. They cleaned up their work area, including the neighboring property, which was cleaner when they left than before they started! Overall, a good experience and I recommend Narrow Leaf for their tree work.

Tom responded immediately to the request for an estimate. Price was much lower than two other estimates I received for removing a decaying globe willow tree from my front yard. Tom and four workers arrived before 8 a.m. on the morning scheduled. The four workers did an excellent job of removing the tree without damaging our house or the yard. Our yard, the next door neighbors yard and the street were all cleaned before the workers left. The only delay in completion of the project was that Tom twice forgot to notify the utility companies for marking of the yard before the stump could be removed. After the yard was marked, the stump was then removed on the day scheduled and the area cleaned up. Overall I was quite satisfied with the service.

Tom helped us plan the work and suggested design approaches, many of them we ultimately adopted. Since the project was large, Tom also suggested ways to reduce the cost of the project, most of which we did not adopt because of our design preferences. The workmanship on the deck was excellent. The construction was stopped for a week in the middle of the job, but the interruption was explained in advance. The deck and shade structure turned out very well, and we are very pleased with it. A number of our neighbors have complimented us on the deck. I would highly recommend Narrow Leaf to build your deck.
Description of Work: Narrow Leaf built a very large deck, a beautiful shade structure, plus finishing touches such as a rail, an electrical outlet, steps, and lighting. The shade structure was built with vigas and latillas, which matched the character of our house. The railing was architecturally consistent with the deck railings on our house. The deck material was low maintenance polymerized wood, commonly called Trex, I believe.

Tom Brasby gave us an itemized bid showing the cost of everything we wanted done. The final payment was exactly as he stated in his bid. The crew showed up on time and finished exactly in the amount of time estimated. Tom is very knowledgeable and was extremely helpful in deciding how to address our landscaping problem areas. I definately recommend this company and will certainly use them again.
Description of Work: After receiving bids from several companies we decided to go with Narrow Leaf, Inc. and have not regretted our choice. They renovated a section of our front yard by removing sod, converting sprinklers & installing plants, boulders & gravel. They also renovated our back yard by removing the blue grass, that was mostly weeds and non-existant in some places, with Fescure sod. They replaced sprinkler heads, installed steel edging, removed the bark ground cover and replaced it with gravel.

The shrubs in the front of the house we recently bought were all way beyond their prime so we decided to rip them all out and plant new ones. All the plantings in the large back yard were also a complete mess, so we decided to start anew with them also. There was also a huge, ugly and useless concrete slab that had to go. And the perimeter wall in back was too low to provide any real security and privacy, so it had to be raised. Based on Angie's List recommendations we called Tom Brasby of Narrow Leaf Landscaping. He came right over and gave us a quote for the masonry work, and we agreed on time and materials for the tear out work. His crew of Carlos, Daniel and Adrian came over the next Monday and started work. And do I ever mean work ! They literally busted their backs for the new five and a half days and tore out everything ! Trees, stumps, shrubs, gravel, concrete slab, etc., and finished the wall extension including the finish stucco. I was truly amazed at how hard they worked and what they accomplished. They'll be back next week for phase two. Plant new shrubs out front and two big pine trees in back; prepare about 100 feet of beds and plant shrubs and vines in back, and completely redo the irrigation systems in front and back. I know they'll once again do a superb job. Tom and his crew have been a real pleasure to work with, and Tom's advice about what we should plant and when has been invaluable. I consider myself very fortunate to have found such a great outfit to make our outdoors beautiful and livable.
Description of Work: Removed multiple old rose bushes and small trees in the front of our house. In our back yard they removed two trees and ground out their stumps, removed multiple shrubs and plants, removed the steel edging and old gravel from several beds, jack-hammered out a huge concrete slab, and hauled off innumerable edging rocks. They added several courses of concrete block to our 150 foot back wall and finished the addition with stucco to match the existing wall.

Tom came when he said he would, did the job expertly, took the time to explain how it worked to me. A very reputable contractor.
Description of Work: I would like to say a few words about Tom Brasby. He came to my house to install a new box (timer) for our irrigation system. He was punctual; he actually apologized for arriving a few minutes late. He took the time to show me how to use the timer when others would have just left. He just saved me money by telling me how to fix the timer after a lightning storm. I am most grateful to him. Dede Denham

An appointment was set up withing a couple of days of our call. Tom cam out and reviewed our yard and discussed our needs. This company is responsive while others did not return our calls at all. All the work was completed as discussed; we knew it would take 2 to 3 weeks before the work could begin. Tom gave us advice on which crusher fines to avoid given their high clay content. He recommended we visit a local business and select the color and types of rock which we did. The landscape fabric was laid neatly and as agreed. The workers moved several wood planter barrels to a new location. Tom came to check up on the progress of the work. An appropriate amount of rock was used--not too much and not too little. The rock was not left in the street in front of the house. Before leaving the workers hosed down the street to ensure no rock residue was left. We are very pleased with the results. The improved irrigation for the trees seems to be much more effective than what we had installed ourselves. The workers did a terrific job of cleaning up and ensuring that the yard looked tidy. I would definitely recommend this company to others. You must be patient though as they are very busy but it is worth the wait.

From the beginning during the initial bidding process it was clear to us that Narrow Leaf was an experienced company with large projects. It was evident because they were compared to others and had great ideas in design and building approaches. When the job began, there was a particular crew of 3 workers who were skilled in an artful way, which made our fireplace and cooking area a spectacular design. In the end, their service and attention to detail was of a high quality, including the owner, Tom, finishing the final punch list. Overall, it was a great experience and an excellent outcome.
Description of Work: Narrow leaf landscaped our entire backyard including relocating a putting green and developing an outdoor living area comprised of den, kitchen and dining areas. On a west side bluff location our backyard design involved developing three tier level spaces. The den area included a custom gas fireplace. The kitchen included a barbecue and wood burning pizza oven in a u-shape design. The dining area included a pergola with additional counter space and outdoor appliances. Pavers were used throughout the living areas. Grass was used on non-paved areas. Landscape lighting, gas, and water were part of the project.
