I purchased a new furnace and water heater through Costco in Oct. 2014 and the evap cooler spring setup was part of the deal. Cost might not have been the lowest but brands are quality plus they get permits and follow code which was important to me. They also set up financing. Very satisfied with everything. Company is professional and responsive to questions & concerns.
Description of Work: Set up evap cooler for the season. Not sure about the date, too lazy to look it up but it's close.

The appointment was scheduled weeks in advance. On the day of the appointment, they failed to show by their designated time frame. After calling for status, they indicated they had called the prior day to confirm, but since I had not answered they cancelled the appointment. No message was left regarding their confirmation. Their dispatcher was extremely professional and told me they were 'slammed' that day and couldn't make it out, even though it was my scheduled appointment time. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional company and would never recommend any one I know to use a company with such poor business practices. I have since scheduled a similar service with a local competitor and will assure I direct as many people as I can to this new company.
Description of Work: Provider was supposed to perform an A/C inspection, however they never showed for their scheduled appointment.

I bought a Groupon for a swamp cooler start up from these guys. When the nice guy came out, we talked about replacing the unit since the one I had was ancient. I got the estimate and then did some research after they left. I was horrified - the cooler they quoted was the most expensive one that AeroCool makes (never told me that there was a midrange one); it was a cooler for a house starting at 2000 square feet (mine is 1200 sf - they didn't tell me there was a smaller one); they wanted to charge me $75 for a cooler cover panel that actually comes with the cooler for free; they wanted to install it immediately; and they kept stressing all the "discounts" they were giving me. I called another place and got a quote in 5 minutes for LESS THAN HALF of these guy's ($1200 v. $3000). They quoted me the small mid-level cooler without me having mentioned anything about the first quote, and after I showed them MCS's quote, said that the larger unit would have sounded like an airplane idling on my roof. Now I just need to get my deposit back.

He was not very communicative. He gave me list and told me those were the issues with the furnace which came up to around $3500.00. They recommended I replace these parts. I have had it inspected every year and they came in and said the furnace is in good shape and it is running really and make minor adjustments. I asked him if he made any adjustments and he said no, all he did was just look at it. I had no real explanation and I thought it was going to be a tune up and cleanup.

The salesman, Rick Roche, discussed all the pros and cons of the different choices we faced and actually did not recommend the most expensive service based upon some plans we have in the future. He took time to go over all of the company insurance, licensing etc that makes you more comfortable having workers in your home! He and everyone at the office promptly answered phone calls, messages etc. The men who came for the installation were quiet, clean and professional. They follow up on their work and make sure everything is right. They also included a year of scheduled service for shut down/start up of the heat and a/c to make sure things go well this year. During the initial estimate Rick asked if there was anything about my furnace that bothered me and I mentioned that there is a high pitched whistle in the intake vent. He did some measurements and realized the initially installed intake was too small for the furnace and the size of our house, meaning adding a/c without adding more intake would ruin the equipment--making it work too hard. They threw in adding an additional intake vent in a hidden area of the house so that the new furnace would run more efficiently, and he DID NOT change our estimate and add additional time or work. Overall we were very happy with the company.

appt was to be between 8-10 am. (I asked for earliest avail so I could go to work). Tech arrived at 9:30am. I had told the office TWICE over the phone-2 separate calls- that he needed to bring a 26' ladder to reach the roof at my house. He did NOT. His 24' ladder was more than 2' too short as it angled against the wall. He insisted he would be ok. Wow, what unsafe practice. Otherwise he would have to go back to the office for the longer ladder, and I was already taking 3 hours off work - at no pay. The job ended up costing me $200 + tax instead of the $89+tax since he sold me an annual service contract (I chose the cheapest type)...so I was right back at the same high cost I had left the last provider for. Why did I buy it? He insisted the water heater and the furnace were both on their last legs. And each time I make this type of appt I have to take 1/2 day off work at no pay!

7/31/14 - Called MCS to get service when upstairs A/C unit developed a condensation leak. A technician arrived within 1-2 hours and ascertained the leak was not repairable (mind you, the unit was VERY old). I appreciated when he informed me that we would not be charged for his visit. Within 3 hours Anthony, senior service tech and sales specialist, arrived and reviewed with us our options for replacing the unit. We decided on the Lennox 4 ton, 13 SEER unit. 8/4 and 8/5/14 - Cheryl, the installation coordinator, was very responsive and courteous all throughout the process. I was pleased to see that the two technicians assigned to our installation were the same two gentlemen who installed our downstairs unit last summer. Getting the old unit out was challenging due to the way it had originally been installed decades ago. Jason and Luis H. were both professional, courteous, knowledgeable, hardworking and responsive. They answered all of our questions and cleaned up after themselves before leaving. 8/7/14 - The electrical and the mechanical inspectors from the city arrived and we received green tags from both of them. 8/8/14 - There was one minor problem after the installation and a technician arrived right away to fix it. I am quite happy with the work that MCS did and would definitely recommend them for your HVAC needs!

The crew arrived on the second of July, on time and ready to work. We verbally went over what the job involved and everyone knew exactly what was expected. The swamp cooler was surgically removed and the outside duct work was capped off. The new refrigeration unit was installed in the same location and the electrician ran a new line from our breaker box to the unit. The hot water heater would not drain, due to the calcium build-up, so it had to be lifted off of the shelf it was sitting on and set onto the floor. (I was glad to see it exit the building safely.) The new water heater was installed very professionally and without any problems at all. At the end of the first day of work, as hot as it was, everyone worked until we had refrigerated air. It may have been around 8:00 PM when they cleaned up their work area and called it quits for the day, but I was assured that it would be entirely finished by the end of tomorrow. Sure enough, early morning of the 3rd, everyone arrives and finishes the ductwork in the living room ceiling. A few finishing touches and everyone was as happy as I was to see everything come together before the 4th of July. In summary, we are extremely satisfied with the excellent service we have received, as well as the friendly and personable workers that this company employs. Thanks to everyone.

They are like a subcontractor with Costco. I thought the price was reasonable. They did a lot and we did go with really high-end equipment. My husband has allergies, so we got a furnace that has a special filter on it. What we got was expensive, but the service we got for that was really excellent. We didn't know anything about them until Costco hooked us up with them. David came by and spoke with us and told us all the stuff that we could do. He was very professional and very good. They had to run a conduit across my ceiling in my garage and they were very apologetic. It was just really sweet the way they were so worried about how the ceiling in my garage looked. I thought that was nice. They said they could do a lot more work and put it outside the house, and I said no. So they covered it and they brought in a special young fellow whose specialty is making it look nice. They really went above and beyond.

At first, the installation went well, They showed up on time and completed the work in about three days for the new HVAC installation. There were several problems that caused us concern. The most appalling was that we were charged twice for the installation as MCS turned the paperwork in twice to COSTCO as there was a change to the first order. Low and behold, I almost fainted when I saw over $36,000 charged to my AMEX card. I immediately called MCS and they never apologized for the error. I was told four times during the call to be sure not to activate both COSTCO gift cards I received. Then they said they would get it corrected. No apology ever for this huge mistake. I immediately filed a dispute with AMEX to ensure that this mistake would not affect my credit. When I called COSTCO to complain, they fell over themselves apologizing for the mistake and said that MCS turned the paperwork in twice. We also had numerous problems with scheduling follow-ups to the inspection and had to reschedule this. Their scheduling was not well managed at all. The sub-contractor used for the cleaning of our duct work was awful and MCS should sever their relationship with them. Dirt blown all over my house. Crew was unprofessional and yelled at me about why I did not tell them I had a duct that was wet. (Gee--I didn't know that, but they still yelled at me about it.) I am filing a separate review on this company.) The hot water boiler installation was quite chaotic. The installer was excellent and knew what he was doing. But he made at least 5 visits to our home because the company would pull him off our job in the middle of the day and send him to some "emergency" somewhere else and we had to keep calling asking when he would come back. We wasted days waiting for the installer to come back, numerous phone calls to the office asking where he was and when he would be back, etc. Ridiculous way to treat a customer who spent over $24,000 on two jobs with this company in one month!
Description of Work: We used MCS as the installer for our refrigerated air conversion from a swamp cooler system as they are the contractor that COSTCO uses in the ABQ area for this. We also used them for a second project, which involved a rebuild of our hot water boiler (furnace) system. This was directly with MCS and not through COSTCO.

Terrible! First of all they said my husband had cancelled the appointment, this is not true! I was waiting for them. The guy came out to winterize my furnaces and coolers. He broke my dead bolt which put a split in the door, and I couldn't lock it without pulling h****** the door. Put a filter in the wrong place, never tested the second furnace to see how it was doing inside the house; didn't check the second thermostat, and then they wanted to charge me an extra $100 to change the batteries in it. Told me I needed a new furnace. I tried to talk to the owner several times, but was never allowed to. The office manager was hateful, and said it was impossible for the guy to damage my door; said she'd have another manager call me, but he never did. There was a guy that came out and repaired the lock (with my lock part being furnished). He came out again when the repair didn't work, and got it working again.

We apologize for any inconvenience that our customers may experience at anytime. We make every effort to ensure the experience with MCS allows you and your loved ones to be more comfortable in your home. Unfortunately, people do make mistakes from time-to-time, and MCS always takes responsibility if those mistakes are ours. We made every effort to fulfill the promise we make to each and every customers. In that effort, we repaired a garage door that was damaged at an unknown time and replaced old, drained thermostat batteries at no cost. The appointment with [Member name Removed] was originally scheduled from a free tune-up she won at an event. This free tune-up covers only one system which is why the second system was not inspected. We did offer to inspect the second system; however, [Member Name Removed] did not want to pay for the service. We wish her well and hope her and her family remain comfortable in their home.

Overall we had a great experience with this company. I would strongly recommend this company for their work, with the minor reservations noted below about the sales process. We found them through their advertisement with Costco, of which we are members. The salesperson came out Thursday at 3 pm the day after we contacted them, and spent 4 hours working up an estimate/contract. There was some pressure to commit immediately, although we were given a "good for 30 days" price as well (the "today" price was less 5%). We thought the 4 hours for an estimate was a bit excessive, I believe they need to make a spreadsheet for their sales associates so that creating an estimate takes a more reasonable amount of time. Our price was "contingent upon site inspection". This was the part where we had some difficulties. Turns out the estimate we were given by the salesperson was completely pie in the sky. The sales associate budgeted out 19 ft of ducting for the entire house. We actually needed an up-flow instead of a down-flow furnace, as the ducting would not fit under the house, but would have to go in the attic.. The furnace we were initially sold would not fit in the closet in which we had planned to have it installed. After the old wall heater was removed on Friday, we were told to build out the closet (and did, over the weekend) to specs that were incorrect and too small. As a result the price jumped from $5800 to $8000 by Monday. That being said, from there on the company bent over backwards to make things right with our installation. The field boss Manny came out Monday morning and conferred with the job boss Manuel, and they spent much time making things right. We are also able to subtract from our price roughly $1100 in rebates (from Costco) and tax breaks, so the final price will eventually be around $6800. Our project was extremely complicated and time consuming, being that this is a very old house, with a lot of previous work done somewhat haphazardly before we bought the place. Three people spent four days completing the project. The professionalism of the job crew was excellent, they worked very hard, and did a great job. I felt confident that the job boss Manuel's attention to detail would result in an excellent job done. The crew were personable and had a good sense of humor, despite the complexity of the job and some friction among the crew. We may use this same crew again when we need to update our water heater. I am currently writing this review all comfy, warm and happy in my newly centrally heated house. Overall, I would strongly recommend this company for the job, with the minor reservations noted above regarding the sales process.
Description of Work: Gave estimate of work to be done. Demo'd and removed all parts of old 1950's wall heater. Installed new Lennox EL180 furnace in closet, installed new insulated duct work (~50 ft) in attic, plumbed gas to furnace, added electricity to furnace from existing circuit, added returns, installed registers, boots, and programmable thermostat and cleaned up all construction materials. Tied in existing swamp cooler to all duct work, installed plenum/dampers and hauled off all pieces of old 1950's wall heater and all trash associated with work. Provided one year of service/maintenance contract for new furnace. Pulled permits and were on site for inspection.

Everything went well, except the wrong furnace was delivered, so MCS had to leave and get the correct one, which took a couple of hours, so they had to come back the next morning to finish up. The mechanical crew, Jason and Luis and the electrician Nick were very professional and informative, during the installation, and consulted with us on all aspects of the installation. Upon entering our house they placed clean drop cloths down and wore boot covers. They were very neat, tidy and careful during their work. The workmanship overall was excellent. My husband and I went up on our roof and the work there was as neat, tidy and professional as inside the house. We are very happy with this job.

The technician was professional when he spoke with me, but I never got the estimate. Also, when I did have another company look at the unit, I learned that I needed to have a motor on the unit replaced and screw put in (cost: $358). It really looks like they were trying to scare me into buying their products and services. Don't call this company unless you want a new HVAC unit.
Description of Work: The air conditioning unit was making a funny noise, so I called this company in for maintenance. The technician they sent out looked at the unit and said that the entire HVAC system need to be replaced. Our unit isn't even 10 years old. I asked for an estimate of costs, and he wrote down $2600- $6000. I paid the diagnostic fee and requested that a formal estimate be sent to me so that I could compare their prices with others because of the cost.

The sales person had good information about the products and the rebates. In fact, we felt that this was an outstanding product even though it was a little more expensive than other company quotes, we really liked it. However, there were some things that we did not like: 1. Initial visit was too long 2. Evaluation of interior (windows, vents, etc.) did not need to be done at that time as we had already received a price quote. 3. There was no need to put down other company's products. After all, this was an excellent product.4. The finance piece should be available online so that a sales person does not have your information. 5. Don't ask so many questions about others bids. 6. Don't make the homeowners feel like if they don't sign that very minute they will be creating problems for others...such as bumping them from the schedule so that someone can come back to see us. So, we chose another company.

We won MCS's contest for "The Ugliest Cooler in Albuquerque"! After educating ourselves on HVAC technical aspects such as SEER & AFUE ratings, etc., and getting clarification regarding what system we actually won in the contest, we and MCS were able to move along promptly to schedule the installation. The supervisor (Manny) came out a few days in advance of the scheduled installation to assess the current situation and to make sure the installers would have everything they needed on the installation date. We were told the installation would take 1-2 days. The technicians (Jason and Luis), along with the electrician, arrived on time (actually 15 minutes early) and installed a Lennox 13 SEER unit. Jason and Luis responded to any questions that we had and made sure we were informed about what we needed to know regarding the new unit and the operation of the thermostat. At the end of the day, there was a problem with either our breaker or with something inside the unit. Since it was already after 7:00 pm, Jason said that he would return the next morning with his electrician to complete the process. As promised, they showed up early the next day and solved the problem (a wire in the unit?). The technicians and the electrician were all professional and courteous. They cleaned up after themselves and left everything in tip top shape. Manny returned that morning to make sure we were happy with everything. Today the city inspector came out to inspect the installation and, within 2 minutes, we received our green tag indicating all is well. The unit is pumping out cold air much more strongly than our old, tired unit. I am looking forward to seeing our utility bill and reaping the benefits of having a new, more efficient system. I am grateful to MCS for making this contest available to Albuquerque and I am pleased with the outcome of this experience.
