Description of Work: They said theybwould be there between 10-12. At 1.30 they finally arrived then went away to another job in the middle. Finally done at 5.30. I wasted the whole day with them. Brothers charged from dispatch which was an extra hour 3.5 although the heater guy was there for 2.5. He also spent half an hour telling me my system was messed up ( I know that!) and an extra half hour at the end waiting to see if it was ok. Which it wasnt but he didnt catch it. They also charged me $200 for an $80 pump and left all kind of gunk in there. I have had to clean the filter daily for a week before it settled down. It was also making a horrible noise afterwards. I asked them to come back and same thing. They said theyd be there around 2.00. They called at 4.30 to say they werent coming today. I got another company in.

Response from Brothers Electro Mechanical Inc
This customer has a on demand water heater used as a boiler. It is not the proper application whatsoever. It is an illegal installation. Brothers made every effort to help this customer get "lemonade" out of her lemons but the frank and simple fact is that it needs to be abandoned and replaced with the proper type of system. The only appropriate solution is, unfortunately removal and replacement with a proper boiler. This is no simple matter in the building in question. The remodel required to make this heating system proper and up to code would easily exceed $10,000. Unfortunately this customer was taken advantage of severely by the installing contractor and she is justifiably upset by the situation as it persists years later. The installation application and condition of her system is deplorable. While sympathetic to this customers circumstance Brothers did not create the situation she is currently saddled with.

Description of Work: A/C compressor wasn't running. Tech (Glen) found that rodents had chewed up a couple wires behind the capacitor causing them to arc and eventually burn off one of the contacts. He replaced the capacitor, replaced a couple wires and connectors. It has been running fine ever since.

Description of Work: I asked for an estimate to install an evaporative cooler. A technician came out to look at my house and what I wanted to do. I didn't hear anything back from them for over two weeks. I called a couple of times trying to get some sort of response. Finally I get an email with an attached bid for approximately $15,000 for an industrial grade air conditioner. Definitely not what I was interested in having done.

Response from Brothers Electro Mechanical Inc
This homeowner indicated that they were primarily interested in lowering their utility bills. They thought this would be best achieved by installing a new evaporative cooler to their home. In general adding Evap. cooling to a home with refrigerated air is a complicated issue but it can be done. There are aesthetic considerations as well as the expected water/ducting/electrical switching work. We suggested to this homeowner that a commercial style HVAC unit would integrate some "free cooling" during mild weather and draw fresh outside air in, when appropriate, using existing ducting and thermostat. This would be the most automatic and professional option. Alternately, a more simple standard 15 SEER AC unit was offered that would cut utility bills over the existing 10 SEER equipment. Installing a cooler and wholesale exhaust where one never existed and in a manner so as to not compete with AC system is a bit more complicated than it might seem. Efforts to follow up with the homeowner were made and the reasoning behind what we offered was explained.

It went well. They were prompt, efficient and professional. It took only 2 days.
Description of Work: Brothers replaced two 35-year old "package" AC/Heating units with two new Lennox units--one 3.5 ton and second 2.5 ton. When contacted for an estimate, a very professional bid was provided the very same day contact was made. (The other company contacted for an estimate for comparison purposes took a week to respond and then only after a phone call.) Brothers is a local famiily owned business. They do all their own work and do not use sub-contractors. The only exception to use of sub-contractors was in the hiring of a crane to remove old units and "drop in" new units into yards. This took about an hour and was quite impressive. (Other neighbors have struggled with other companies getting units in/out of back yards and this seemed to be safer and far more efficient.) The completed work took only two days. We are very satisfied with the units. They are so quiet that I placed ribbons on the units to move with the air when they are on so that I can tell when they are running! The owner, Tony, and son came back to check on everything and take care of a few details. It appears that this firm has pride in their work and "does it right" the first time. I would recommend them in a heartbeat!

After viewing AL for qualified electrical contractors in my city we contacted four companies to bid a kitchen and living room remodel for recessed can lighting and pendant lighting. I contacted this company and was told that someone would come out and bid the job on 5/12/09. I received a call that morning stating that there was a mix up and that Brothers did not do lighting electrical work. I replied that the office person said they did and that Brothers Electrical had aq good rating and that we wanted to get the work done. He stated that they only do work on furnaces, AC units etc.... Needles to say we were disappointed because we could have saved ourselves a week of waiting for a company that does do that type of work versus a company that claims they do that type of work and then calls to say they don't. Good Luck

Brothers is a family owned business which has been in Albuquerque for a number of years. They have an excellent Better Business Rating, which was one of the driving factors in whom I chose to bid on this job. I look for business's with good ratings, how long in business, problem resolution history, and how long they have been members of the Better Business Bureau. We chose 3 product brands Rheem, Carrier, York. We got 3 bids total, 1 from a company who installed one of these brands. The web sites for these manufacturers gave what they considered the top several contractors that install their products. Estimating process was thorough and complete. Price was less than 2 other bids for a like system. Tony Brothers took time to understand what we wanted, asked questions and proposed solutions. He also explained what was included in the estimate and what problems could arise, which were not visible at the time of the estimate, and if these would increase the cost. He said if they were small issues that they would just take care of it. No issues were found. Tony bid our job with several different options on the efficiency of the units to be installed. Prior to the arrival of the 3 contractors that I had chosen to bid on this job, I had written down all the questions I wanted to ask. Also what quality of units I was looking for. This kept the bidding from the 3 companies on the same plain for comparison. Do your homework and go to the makers web sites and educate your self on what each brand has to offer. But be flexible if the contractors suggestions make sense. Jeff and Ben were the installers. They were very neat, explained what they were doing and asked what we wanted, such as where did we want the new thermostat. The installation went well. Jeff also gave instruction on the use of the system and the thermostat. We can manage most home improvements or repairs ourselves so we seldom have contractors do work for us. This was a good experience.
Description of Work: Removed existing gas furnace, capped off old cooler duct work, installed new furnace, A/C, and high efficient filter and box.

I was very pleased with the workers, their response time if issues came up. I had obtained estimates from 2 other heating and cooling ABQ companies, and their prices were 2 to 3 thousand less, but I feel I could not have received better service, so I'm ok with the extra money. I also insisted on a Trane furnace with a 96% efficiency rating, which increased the cost.
Description of Work: They replaced an original 1946 crawl space gas furnace with a high energy efficiency gas furnace and air-conditioning unit. Because my 1946 cement block house had a wrap-around addition built on 2 sides many years ago, my crawl space was difficult to work with. It actually is divided into 2 crawl spaces. This company had 2 to 4 men working at my house for a solid 4 1/2 weeks in order to get this all set up. They were neat, worked with me to make sure I could conveniently (as possible) change the filters, added lights to the crawl space. Note, the price also reflects they re-did the electricity to my home, for it had not been updated for decades. The furnace and air components were around 18,500.

Originally called for service on a Saturday on our existing furnace, because the burner would shut off before the temperature had reached the level to which the thermostat was set. Previous service calls by another service company had failed to fix the problem. Serviceman told us the next step was to replace the blower which would be about $250 after we had already spent $250 with the previous service company. Brothers recommendation was to replace the furnace rather than throw more money at an older furnace that may or may not fix the problem. They said if we replaced the furnace, they would apply the charge of the Saturday service call against the installation of the new furnace. We agreed and they replaced the furnace about a week later. Did a good job. Servicemen were friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Checked in the crawlspace as requested to make sure everything was in working order. Even had to extend the vent on the roof, but did not charge us anything additional. Cleaned up after the job was done and we have had no further problems. I would recommend Brothers and Lennox if you need your furnace repaired or replaced.
Description of Work: Called to repair existing furnace. Ended up having company replace furnace.
