 + 1 moreChris contacted me right away to schedule the initial work. I thought I would need to have 2 chimneys swept. Because they are rarely used, Chris just charged for inspections and talked to me about how often I should have them checked based on their current low usage. I went ahead and asked Chris for an estimate to install chimney caps - he gave me an estimate right away and we scheduled the work for a time that was convenient for me. That work was done quickly and very close to the estimate (slightly under). I would definitely call again for any future chimney work.

What we especially liked about Chris was that he answered a few questions that were not directly related to the job he was preforming. This was very helpful to us, as we are new to Albuquerque.  + -1 moreAmrak was hired to come out and inspect and sweep 3 fireplaces/chimneys in our new home. After checking them thoroughly, both inside and from the roof, Chris Mayo informed me that all 3 chimneys appeared to be very clean and not used in some time. He tested them all by starting fires with a bit of lumber I had brought home and some kindling he collected from outside the house. All 3 burned quite well. Not only did Mr Mayo not charge for me for sweeping that was unnecessary, but he also told me that I probably wouldn't need them to be swept again for at least 2 years. He said he would send out a postcard reminder to us at that time. It was very nice not to have someone try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge and thus overcharge me or charge me for things I didn't need, as others I spoke to one the phone seemed like they would be more apt to do. I get real tired of the local New Mexico doublespeak, and I don't mean the language itself because I understand Spanish pretty well. Being from the East Coast also, Chris also spoke English - the same kind I did. How refreshing!

He took care to make sure that everything was covered before starting the sweep. He cleaned my chimney and my fireplace ashes. He made recommendations for avoiding the smoke in the house issue and stayed while aI lit a fire to test it out. Everything is working great! I will definitely call hime again.

 + -1 moreChris arrived on time. He did the cleaning and inspection in a very professional manner. He spread a cloth around the stove and left the area as clean as when he began. He told us that everything was in excellent shape and that we wouldn't need another cleaning for two years given our planned usage. When we asked about where we could buy firewood, he provided several recommendations. Overall, he provided an excellent and friendly service. Well worth the price. When he found out we were new to Albuquerque, he told us of several cultural attractions we might be interested in. We hope to see him and his wife at some of them in the coming years.

Definitely will call on him when needed in the future.

 + -1 moreI reacently had a fireplace cleaned at a North Valley home my son bought from overseas. Even though provider said the chimney wasn't bad there still was about 1/2 inch of soot in the fireplace when he finished. He said my having it cleaned was the conscientious thing to do before renting it out. He vacuumed up the soot and was on his way. When I questioned him about cleaning out a gas fireplace chimne at my house he said it really wasn't necessary.

 + -1 moreIt turned out okay with Amrak Enterprises. It was just one of those things that I hadn't had done for since I have owned the house so it was always at the back of my mind. He came out, take a look at the chimney and he cleaned it. I didn't get the sense that it was really thorough cleaning but he said it didn't really need a very through cleaning because there wasn't a lot of crystal built up or anything. It was more or less just peace of mind and I had a good price. He did it pretty quickly, as soon as I called him, he came out within a week. He was a very pleasant guy, he seemed really knowledgeable and confident about what he does so it was a good experience. I think it was a good deal. If I had paid anymore than I did, if I hadn't gone through the deal, I might have felt like it wasn't thorough enough. He definitely did what he came out to do. In my case, when I do use the fireplace, I know how to build a good fire so that keep the crystal down in the chimney when you burn a really hot fire. I was more concerned about structural things like cracks and he didn't see any evidence of that.

 + -1 moreThe serviceman showed up on time and was very professional and knowledgeable about chimney sweeping and maintenance. He provided ideas about how to keep the chimney clean in the future. The work was a very good value and Amrak is highly recommended.
Description of Work: The serviceman was careful to close off the fireplace so that no creosote would enter the house. He swept the chimney flu from the roof using long brushes of an appropriate size that that would not be readily available to available to a homeowner. This was followed by further careful brushing and vacuuming within the house.

 + -1 moreI asked Chris to come out and clean my chimney. It didn't need to be cleaned so he just inspected it and charged me for an inspection. He found a bad gas line in the fireplace and when he realized it was beyond what he was licensed to do he told me that I needed a plumber. I appreciated his honesty. He could have charged me for a cleaning and he could have done work he wasn't licensed to do and I would never have known the difference.

 + 2 moreChris showed up on December 18 early. He did an excellent job venting the pellet stove. He would on it all day and found lots of sot behind the stove. He cleaned up after himself, explained things to my husband. He was very honest and through and it showed in his work. There was a slight problem with the stove staying on after he left but it was due to a wire that had pulled loose. Not because of Chris's working on it. Probably was sucked off when it was vacuumed behind the stove. My husband and I were very pleased with his work, it could not have come at a better time. Our furnace which was installed in 2008 bit the dust last Thursday. So, the pellet stove is all we have right now and I am VERY glad I met Chris. I asked that I get a permit for the work that he did and an estimate for damages that were caused in Sept. when lightning struck our house twice. Flooded our home, hail damage, and the list goes on. I hope he take the job I know he will not do me wrong. Life needs more people like Chris around. THANK YOU CHRIS!!!
Description of Work: I called Chris during the lunch hour. He told my name and number and promptly returned by call after lunch. I said that I needed to have my chimney cleaned, as well as the duct to my clothes dryer. We scheduled an appointment. He showed up early Cleaned the chimney and told me that it was not very dirty. I told him we had only burned wood in it two times and had problems with smoke blowing back into the house. So we had a pellet stove installed and the draft from the pellet stove was colder than the stove was warm, it to was blowing smoke and ash back into the house. So, I was thinking of putting in a propane stove instead but until then I just wanted to have the chimney capped off. He looked at the dry vent and said that the work my husband had done was the right way to do it. The builder had done it incorrectly. He then talked to me about putting in a propane stove was not going to heat my home and it would be more expense then the pellet stove. He took a closer look at the stove and found that it had not been installed correctly. It did not have the fire exhaust hose going all the way up the stack. He said that he could do this for me but it would have to be on another day as he had another appointment. We scheduled for Dec 18.

 + -1 moreAlthough it took a very long time to get an appointment (Angie's List coupon generated a lot of calls) it was well worth the wait. They were friendly, kind and professional form start to finish. Would suggest this company any time there is a need for this type of work to be done in your home.
Description of Work: Examined chimney and fireplace of new home we had just moved into. He went up on the roof to do his work and suggested a chimney cap to be installed. Told us if we felt able we could probably do it ourselves. He then gave some advice on tools for the fireplace and how to keep your fireplace well and happy. Said he didn't see a need to return for 2 years.
