Excellent. A complete transformation of an unworkable space. Complete Reno of my my laundry room, split level basement and bathroom. All of Builtwell vendors were very professional especially the carpenters who customized everything. We would highly recommend. Be precise on what you want and Keith and his guys will work with you to create anything.
Keith recently completed an extensive renovation in our home and we couldn't be happier with the results. Keith, and his crew, are honest, informative and skilled craftsmen. Keith kept us informed throughout the process, making sure to call us on an almost daily basis with updates. He achieved his goal of making sure we were happy with the end result.
Everything went relatively well. Keith, the owner, and his crew are skilled professionals and, as important, personable. I will not hesitate hiring them again.

I spoke with Keith who set an appointment for today at 4 pm to come and give the estimate. I asked him if something came up to, please, just give me a call to let me know. I was home before 4, and by 4:30 he still hadn't shown up. I tried calling and left a message. I have yet to hear back from him.
Description of Work: I called them to do an estimate on the remodel of my bathroom.

My wife and I could not be happier with choosing Built-Well Builders for remodeling our entire home and building an addition. We received several estimates, in which 2 of the 3 were in the same ballpark. Keith Hessman, the owner is a very a good contractor and even a better person. My wife and I felt very comfortable with Keith from the first time we met with him to go over the scope of our project. He was very honest from the start and all the way to the end of the project. Description of work: New 3 story addition Full bath on main floor Remodeled Kitchen, LR, Dining Room on first floor. Added master bedroom with master bathroom Remodeled basement - (Had to be dug deeper and foundation underpinned) All new electrical New duct work Central Air New plumbing through whole house We could not be happier with the craftsmanship of the project. Even the inspectors along the way were very complimentary of Keith's team's work. His team was always punctual very polite, professional and took pride in the quality of their work. We would not hesitate to hire Keith again and recommend Built-Well to anyone. (Pics to follow)

Keith is a very talented carpenter and will get the job done . His staff were very good as well and kept a clean workplace. Very caring and wants to please. Offers many good ideas and helps with a final plan that he makes you confident you will be happy with. Works with an excellent design planner , Karen, who works just as hard to come up with the kitchen design that is perfect for your needs. Highly recommend Built-Well Contractors

The work went very well. Keith was a pleasure to deal with through the process. The subs that he works with were excellent. In particular, the subs we dealt the most with Jeff Mazur the framer, Kevin Gianntonio the electrician, and Jim Murphy the plumber. The latter two did additional work for us beyond what we contracted for with Keith. With regards to Keith and his guys, I would say that we were very comfortable with them working in our house. We felt they were very trustworthy which is important on a project this large. Keith had access to our property when we were not there. Keith was meticulous in his prep and cleanup. We lived through the renovation and Keith segregated the job as much as possible with temporary walls etc. Our friends were amazed of the scale of the project and how much we were unaffected (until the kitchen got ripped out of course). The project did take longer than we were hoping. I would say the reasons were primarily out of Keith's control and included unforeseen issues that always happen in a project of this magnitude when working on an old house. For instance, it was found that the steam pipes could not be adequately extended so we needed to get a supplemental heat system. This added a relatively small amount to the total cost but gave us a superior outcome. Additionally, we decided to fully renovate our kitchen instead of just extending it which added time, cost, and complexity, but this was our decision. In summary, I would not hesitate to use Keith and his crew again for another job in the future. I can highly recommend his work! The work went very well. Keith was a pleasure to deal with through the process. The subs that he works with were excellent. Description of Work: Built-Well built a three-story addition on our 1930 tudor. The addition achieved the following: new bedroom and bathroom, extended the kitchen/larger eating area, new covered porch, added a mudroom, moved the laundry room to the first floor and built a combined laundry/pantry, converted the old laundry into a den/temporary guest room, and built a gym. Additionally, a new portico was built.
Keith was great to work with and the results were excellent. I would highly recommend him as a contractor. Some detail below. Cost: The project was on budget. We never felt like we were being nickel and dimed, and, if anything, Keith performed more work than we had originally agreed to without a change in cost Design: Both Keith and his designer (Karen) provided us with excellent ideas, as we only had a general idea of what we wanted for the kitchen. They were critical in our decision-making process, both from a structural and aesthetic standpoint. Results/quality - We couldn't be happier with how our new kitchen looks, as well the improved functionality/storage. The quality of the work and cabinetry is excellent. Responsiveness: We were in daily contact with Keith throughout the project, which was especially good given our work schedules. Keith is very friendly and easy to work with. On-site presence: Keith was on-site every day of the project to ensure his crew/subcontractors (electricians, plumbers etc) understood the scope of work for the day. Much of the cabinetry/carpentry work was done by Keith himself. Crew/subcontractors - on time, trustworthy, friendly, quality worksmanship Cleanliness - we have two young children, and Keith and his crew did an excellent job cleaning up every day

This was the third time we've used Built-Well. Keith and his crew, once again, did an outstanding job. Our hall bath was the only thing left to be renovated on the second floor. Keith removed everything down to the studs and sub-floor and installed radiant heating on the floor, a new stall shower, a new tub deck and a double sink vanity. We tiled the floor, half way up the walls and the entire shower area. We couldn't be happier with the results. Keith's subs, Jim from Allure Plumbing and Kevin from Higher Powered Electric are so great to work with and take great pride in their work. They accommodated any little change we made without hesitation. Our guests now feel like they have their own master suite!
Description of Work: Renovation of existing hall bath
I came across Keith from Angies List, and made the decision to go with him after he was willing to meet me at multiple houses (we were looking at fixer-uppers) before we had even purchased our home. We decided to also work with his Kitchen Designer, Karen, which was another good move since we did a full re-model of the kitchen. Overall, Keith was fantastic to work with. he was friendly, HONEST (I cannot stress this point enough), and most importantly and expert in his craft. He takes pride in his work and it shows. He was always reachable when I needed to get in touch with him, and if I Couldn't there was always a call back shortly. Like most re-models, we started with one scope in mind, and added on a few extras throughout the project. Keith handled this well and was always able to accommodate our additional requests. At the end, we did a full kitchen gut and re-model, and took down 2 walls to open up the kitchen to our den. We re-faced and old brick fireplace, and re-finished the original hardwood floors. New wood floors were laid in the kitchen, and tied in perfectly to the existing floors. you would never know that the kitchen was new and the connected dining room was at least 20 years old. He build a mud-room, pantry, laundry room area out of what was previously and extra dining area. New lighting and electrical was needed throughout first floor. We also had to move a door, close up a window, and add 2 new windows to the Den in order to make it the space we wanted. Keith's team again did a fantastic job making this all seamless, so you would never know how much we moved around. If you have re-model to be done. Call Keith. You won't be disappointed. Take a look at some of the before and after pics to see his work.
Description of Work: Full Kitchen Gut and Re-model; Multiple walls removed to create open floor plan; moved laundry room to 1st floor, full bathroom re-model; re-finished all floors; created mud-room and pantry out of unused space; re-facing of fireplace; significant new electrical and lighting throughout house

FLASH BACK: Like many other people, we wasted a long time in Contractor H*** looking for the right guy. We finally came across Built-Well on Angie's List, backed by a torrent of great reviews. We met Keith Hessman, were very impressed with his demeanor, credibility and experience and signed on. CUT TO PRESENT: Smart move! Keith is one of a kind, maybe last of a dying breed: honest, highly intelligent, hard-working, reliable and intrinsically dedicated to excellence. He is incapable of doing bad work for any reason and stands behind everything he does. Keith is a very likeable, ingratiating person with a great attitude and sense of humor. He'll seem like a lifelong friend after a week and you'll never likely to worry about trust or sincerity. He wants to do things right the first time. With few exceptions, his subcontractors are people of similar character, established top-notch professionals with years of experience in their own right. They make up a team that can pretty much tackle any project with aplomb and excellence. We started our kitchen remodel in the dead of winter with an older person in the house and they made it work. You'll generally find that Keith is available by phone or he'll be sure to get back in touch very quickly. Very importantly, his guidance and aesthetic perceptions are invaluable in completing the project the way you envision it and to help avoid misunderstandings. When it comes to budget, Keith is-- in a word-- fair. There is nothing underhanded. There is no suspicion of hidden charges nor price gouging. He'll work within your budget and let you know about any valid unexpected problems and a list of options. The joke is that we enjoy Keith's company and contributions so much that as soon as we finish we'll just knock everything down and start over again!
Description of Work: To date: Demo of kitchen, adjacent porch, walkway and patio. Architectural planning, coordination, remodeling of entire kitchen and bathroom. Outdoor construction included new siding, roofing, gutters, patio door and landscape design

Keith and his team were professional and skilled quality craftsmen! My cape cod living room, dining room and kitchen were transformed into a lovely open area with ample storage! Keith was a pleasure to work with. He was Attentive, organized and communicative about the project each step of the way. We had a few unforeseen problems but he knew the right people to contact so that the job continued well to completion. I already recommended him to a new neighbor. I am highly satisfied with everything that was done and would use him again!
My wife and I could not have been happier with Keith, from the first time we met him in September of 2014 until today. The work we were having done was extensive. We basically had the entire living area of our house remodeled, which included ripping out all existing interior walls to create one large kitchen / great room / dining room, relocating a laundry room, adding an office and mud room, closing off a family room and remodeling two bathrooms. Knowing the scale of the project, and the fact that we were going to live through it, having a reliable / honest contractor was of the utmost importance to us. I read all the reviews on Angie's List (just like you are doing now) and decided to give Keith a call. When we first met Keith we didn't have any drawing or plans, and weren't sure who we were going to use to help design the remodel. After meeting Keith the first time we had a good feeling about him and decided to use the kitchen designer he works with (Karen). This turned out to be good move in the long run as Karen had some great ideas that we never would have thought about (we lived in the house for 10 years and just had some pre-conceived ideas on where things should be ... Karen flipped all that around). During the three month planning process with Karen we were in touch with Keith and our trust in him grew. When the plans were finally done, Keith gave us a very fair quote. We actually didn't even get any competitive bids at that point because we were so comfortable with Keith, he knew the project very well at that point and we liked the idea of Keith and Karen working together. This proved to be a big stress reliever in the project because Keith and all his sub-contractors have worked with Karen for years, so they were constantly in touch during the project working through the various issues that inevitably arose. All of the sub-contractors were very timely, responsive, courteous, honest and fair. During the demolition and framing of the project I was traveling a lot for work. Jeff (the framer) constantly stayed in touch with me, and would actually text me pictures of some issues he was facing and the work he was d*** to resolve those issues. At one point he found some structural issues with the family room and quickly came up with a cost effective solution to address the problem while still maintaining the original design. Jim (the plumber), Kevin (the electrician) and Pat (the tiler) were all great to work with as well During the project we lived in our basement, and Keith would consistently clean up to make sure the house was as comfortable as possible for my family. We also have a dog and we were not sure what we were going to do with it during the project. Well, apparently Keith has a side job as a dog whisperer (not really, but it seemed likes that given how much our dog liked him), which was great because we were able to keep the dog at the house, saving us thousands of dollars for boarding fees, or a few friendships for those who offered to take our anxiety filled pet. Regarding timing and budget, the project took a few weeks longer than we had initially planned, but for very acceptable reasons. So that was not a big concern of ours. As for the budget, Keith was incredibly honest and fair. On a number of occasions Keith and his team ran into some unforeseen issues / obstacles and ended up fixing them at no additional cost to us. The overall project costs a little higher than we planned, but that was because we asked Keith do some additional work along the way, and chose a few items that were more expensive than the allotment in the initial proposal. Our biggest compliment to Keith is his honesty and willingness to please. At any point if there was something that we did not like, or wanted to do differently, there was absolutely no hesitation on Keith's part to address it immediately. In a project like this, there is inevitably going to be things that don't turn out the way you planned / expected. What I didn't want was a contractor where having these discussions was stressful, but with Keith these conversations were never tough. He was always understanding and willing to address the concern. Our only complaint with the project was the cabinet company we chose for the kitchen. Karen typically works with two companies, Royal and Hansem. We ended up choosing Royal for the kitchen cabinets and Hansem for the bathroom and laundry room. The kitchen cabinets ultimately came out great but it was not without Karen's persistence and Keith's effort to fix issues that were not his ... headaches that should not be expected when spending that much on cabinets. The cabinets took much longer than we had expected to be made, and there were a number of issues (wrong size cabinet, damaged pieces, pain blemishes) that I would not have expected for custom cabinets. A few little issue could be expected, but there were a number of issues. But what was most disappointing was Royals apparent lack of concern at quickly addressing the issues. A few of the issues ended up taking almost 6 weeks to fix. In fairness, Karen and Keith said this was highly unusual based on past their experiences, but I would be remiss to not at least mention it. In conclusion I would recommend Keith for your home renovation project and would use him again myself in the future.

We could not have asked for a better contractor and are thrilled with Keith and all of his subcontractors (electrician, plumber, tile installer, etc). Keith and his subcontractors are not only masters at building kitchens, they show up when they say they will, do what they say they will do and make excellent suggestions. We were quoted a very fair price and except for additional work that we decided to have done, the price was honored. If something went wrong, Keith would tell us what happened (even though we may have never noticed it) and would take care of it at his expense. When I noticed something wrong, and I am very picky, Keith would take care of it. The important point is that you could trust him to not try and hide something that may not be perfect. Nothing major went wrong anyway but he did point out things that he was not happy with. I doubt there are many others out there that would let you know. As you can already tell from the above, Keith is very honest and takes great pride in his work. We feel lucky that we were able to have Keith remodel our kitchen and are in the very beginning stages of planning the remodeling of our master bathroom. Of course Keith will be our contractor and we are already using his bathroom designer. One more thing to show Keith's character. We hired a painter to do the kitchen and other rooms. Keith walked in and saw the painter retouching the ceiling and said that since that part of the ceiling wasn't as smooth as it should have been (I disagree), he reached into his pocket and gave the painter cash to cover some of his work. This is unbelievable.
Description of Work: Keith gutted our outdated kitchen. After gutting the kitchen Keith removed a large section of a weight bearing wall and raised the header, enlarged 2 entryways and raised another header so the ceiling from the kitchen would be exactly the same height as the room next to the kitchen (his suggestion after he heard what I would like). Once the kitchen was ready for the remodel, it was rebuilt from floor to ceiling (Tile floor, walls, cabinets, plumbing, lighting, etc.) He also added an access ladder to the attic in our laundry room and changed the vanity in the powder room

This is the second time we've used Keith. Last summer he built 2 additions to my home, 2 huge bathrooms and a laundry room. This spring, he and his team finished our basement and added a basement bathroom. This time around we didn't use an architect, we drew out the plans ourselves and Keith totally "got us" and our vision. The basement looks great! I completely trusted Keith to work in our home, even when we weren't there. We're saving to do our kitchen too, and I'll for sure be calling Keith for that!

Things started out really well. Keith was punctual and reliable. I felt like we had a really good understanding of the job, and each others expectations. That went south not too far into the job. We were adding a shower to an existing powder room and I specified what size I wanted to the new shower to be. However, when he was done framing it, it was about a foot too small. I had to have him enlarge the shower. He did it without complaining, but we ended up with a wall that was bout 1/2 in out of plumb and a drain that was not in the center. We had planned on putting in a wall so separate two rooms and he said we would figure out where it would go, then forgot. When I asked when we were going to do the wall he said he didnt know we wanted to do a wall. The kitchen was a challenge. I did not use his kitchen designer and hired my own, but Keith was hired to do the installation. I can't even begin to tell you the issues that ensued from there. In the end we ended up with a dishwasher that was crooked, and a corner pullout that had to be restricted to be able to use it and not bang the range. Now while we understood that we had our own kitchen designer, he was asked about these issues and insisted that he could make them work. Well, it didn't. Lastly, my granite that cost $5000 was cut 1/2 inch too short!! His solution was to add a piece. while it was not noticeable on the front it clearly did not match in the back. This should never have happened. He has a way of saying don't worry about it we will figure it out, but then it doesn't work out. That happened several times during the project. There were other issues as well, but I will stop here. In the end, I have a hole in my laundry room ceiling that they never closed, walls that are not plumb, plumbing lines on walls (not in them) that are coming off the walls, electrical lines going through the hole in the ceiling, and a jugout that is two different heights from where they boxed them out with sheetrock. My new mudroom had a piece of metal in the ceiling that easily could have been removed and wasn't. My garage had wood from the framing into the garage that did not need to be there. There were moldings that were not completed. i had a door in my backyard that the never disposed of. I had to keep telling them what needed to be finished. I will give Keith credit where credit is due, they did do extras that were not part of the job like hang the old kitchen cabinets in the laundry room. and move a dryer. My complaint there was that they told me the dryer vent was hooked up to the outside, and it actually wasn't. I don't think they lied, I just don't think they did their job correctly. But for the past several months my dryer has been venting into my house and the lint going into the wall!! In the beginning I really felt like he was the man for the job, but the lack of attention to detail was disappointing. I had to hire someone to come in and finish the job he didn't. I felt terrible about that, but I was left with no choice.

This is the second time we've used Built-Well. After doing such a great job on our master bedroom and master bath addition / renovation, we contacted Keith once again for our basement and new bath. We have a lot of movies and books and Keith was able to provide us with such an amazing storage unit (custom). Now we have a great display area as well as tons of storage. Keith also had great ideas about how our basement could work for us. We now have a guest area, tv view area (within our new storage unit), a utility closet where things are tucked away and plenty of room for a party! We also wanted to add a bathroom in the basement (which we knew wouldn't be easy). Keith and his plumber did a great job building and installing the bathroom with a shower. His tile guy is a master at what he does too. As with our previous job - all was on budget and Keith and his crew worked with us as we made some small changes along the way. Keith and his crew are all true professionals. We'll be using them once again to build our new garage in a few months.

Our first encounter was in December 2013, when we were looking into adding a third floor master suite to our home. Keith came out to our home to discuss the project, and told us he would send us an estimate. He never did. Forward to March 2015 and we are buying a new 2600 sqft home with plans to fully gut and renovate. Even though Keith did not come through for our ?13 project, we couldn?t overlook all the positive reviews on Angie?s List so we gave him another shot. He met us at the new home and spent over two hours going through all of our ideas. He promised a ?ball-park quote? by the end of that week, to be followed up by a detailed estimate the week after. We didn?t hear back that week, but he did pick up the phone the week after the visit and gave us a verbal ball-park estimate with a 100k range. For a $200k project, a 100k range is ridiculous. The only specifics were that he was calculating a $35k price tag just for new windows alone, but did not provide any information on how that number was derived. Was this for vinyl, wood, aluminum? We could not get any detail and he assured us that a detailed written estimate was forthcoming. When nothing was sent two weeks later, we followed up with him again and he said he couldn't work on our estimate due to being sick - the same excuse he used two years earlier. We?re writing this review over a month after his initial inspection of the home and we still haven?t heard from him. Meeting with him was a waste of time. We?re sorry we made that mistake twice. If he wasn't interested in a $200K+ project, he could have just said so. On the bright side, we did have a chance to meet with several other contractors who have been a lot more responsive, and will follow up with full reviews once they're finished bidding on our architectural plans.
Description of Work: Keith came out to estimate two of our projects. Neither visit resulted in a written estimate. Approx. Cost 200000.00

Response from BUILT-WELL BUILDERS, LLC
What you are leaving out of this review is the fact that I suggested you speak with an architect for the first house as I could not provide an estimate without a true set of plans. You did not do that. Nor did you follow up with me - ever. The second house - again, you still had no architectural plans (just ideas) as you had just bought the house. You wanted me to provide a quote without them – a ballpark price was given to you and I once again told you I could not accurately provide a quote on things until plans were in hand. Again, no plans were given to me. I did speak with you and reiterated once again that I needed plans - for the amount of work you wanted done, structural plans would certainly be required by your town as well. As far as being “sick” I have no idea what you are speaking about. I am certainly not in the business of turning away work. But, I, like all qualified contractors, must have plans in hand so that all bids are based on the same specs. It is fair to you and fair to the contractors. With a full set of plans, I would have been more than happy to provide a quote. But, I certainly will not chase anyone either. We have been in business for over 30 years and my Angie's List reviews from those I have worked for speak for themselves.

These guys truly love their jobs and take immense pride in what they do. I can be a bit of a control freak and I like things done right and in a timely fashion, Built-well did not disappoint . I have always heard renovations can be stressful but Keith was very professional and easy to work with. He showed great patience and worked hard to guide us through the process. He was always available and answered his flip phone every time I called :). I would also like to thank his wife Lisa for doing a great job cordinating everything and keeping me in the loop, also for answering ALL my emails. Everything turned out better then we had hoped.

We used Keith for two rennovations in our home with the latest being a complete overhaul to a sunroom. This included reframing, insulating and installing windows and a door. My husband and I were thrilled with the result. He does superb work which is high quality and the end result was better than I imagined. He made valuable suggestions, such as installing a base board heater, and referred us to great places in terms of fixtures. We used him the prior year for a bathroom renovation which also turned out amazing. His whole team of professionals are first class too- electrician, plummer. I will only use Built Well for home rennovations.

Went well, Keith kept in communication with me and was very helpful with ideas on what I could do. He always answered when I called, which was a lot I know. They showed on time and everyone was polite and they didnt track in anything with this weather, everything was always clean when they left to. I will use them again. Thanks to Keith and his guys for everything

I liked him very much. Once of the reasons I like him is because he is such a straight shooter. But he was so booked up that he wouldn't be able to begin working on our project until next spring, so we ended up going with somebody else. But I really appreciated the honesty. He's a great guy. We hit it off. I would have used him in a heartbeat if he was available. He's a good man. He was terrific with punctual.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from them for some masonry and carpentry, redoing my front porch and steps.

We bought a house in Fall and wanted some remodeling done. We contacted Keith from Angie's List. He responded to my second call and came and saw our place. After that I called him twice and left him voice mails for an estimate but never heard back from him..........but soon after I got a call from Lisa and she was extremely apologetic about the delay because Keith had been sick. She promptly gave me an estimate for my attic. She was very professional and courteous.
Description of Work: Came and checked out the remodelling work that needed to be done.

Our renovation was part of our 5 year plan and we spent all 5 years daydreaming about it! We met with a variety of builders over a 2 year period. We are so happy we ended up with Keith and Built-Well. All of his subcontractors are amazing. They are punctual, polite, and professional. They were all very sweet and patient with entertaining my toddlers who were at home during the bulk of the project too! Keith is realistic about deadlines and timing and really stuck to his word. We had issues with our architect and Keith and his subcontractors really saved us. Keith has a great eye for detail and beauty and style and has really been helpful in our choices from trim, to door styles to countertops/tiles. We are very happy with our choice and have already recommended Built-Well to others.
Description of Work: Built a master suite for us by building a bathroom and walk-in closet over the garage. Also redid our front area of our house - fixed our steps, changed out shutters and built a portico.
