Response from Grain Flooring
I'm sorry that my price was too high for your budget. You wanted me to do a small portion of the work and knowing that this was not an adequate solution, I put my name on it. I wish you the best.

Very pleased with outcome. Brian did an excellent job, I'm looking forward to getting the rest of my hardwood floors redone. He was very punctual - I sent out an email late-afternoon on a Sunday, and he called me within a couple hours (I wasn't expecting a call back until Monday). He was able to give me a rough quote over the phone and then confirmed it upon arrival. He was forthright and gave several options explaining the pros/cons of each. He made three trips - first was with an employee to do the sanding then the first layer of polyurethane. Both he and his employee did the work. The following two days was just Brian roughing the surface, vacuuming and applying another coat. Brian shared quite a bit of knowledge - for me the perfect amount of information. The most telling part of the experience (besides the beautiful outcome) was how he and his employee worked - I "caught" them whistling songs as they were going about their work. I'm happy I chose someone who enjoyed their work.

Brian (the owner) did all of the work himself along with help from another worker. Brian is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. He fully answered all of my questions before, during, and after the job. He was extremely responsive to my calls and texts, and he also called me every day to explain his progress and his plans. I just had the entire house painted, so I was worried about dust. But there was minimal dust, and Brian made sure everything was cleaned every day. Interestingly, Brian did not accept any payment until after the job was done and I was completely satisfied. Brian truly cares about the quality of his work, and it shows in the results. The floors look terrific, and I am enjoying them more and more every day. I am glad I chose Grain Flooring and would surely use them again and recommend them to friends.

I am very satisfied with his work. His estimate and time frame was in line with other estimates I received. He was punctual and very thorough about color and finish. He left the site clean every day. He even fixed things that weren't right in the room floor moulding that had a gap. I would certainly hire him again.

Brian is a true old school master of the art and paid strict attention to all details. He was friendly, prompt, professional, courteous, and the results were exceptional. Sanding went quickly and left a minimal amount of dust. He was meticulous with dust removal. The 3 coats of polyurethane (I chose oil based) went on fast and look amazing. He lightly sanded and rubbed down the floors in between coats. The rooms are totally transformed from what they were. I would definitely use him again and would recommend him to others without reservation.

Brian was there thru the whole process. Refers to himself and as the "Dr. of Wood Floors" and I believe it after talking with him and watching him work. Walked us thru the whole process and was very accommodating with our schedule. Not the lowest cost, but the end product was excellent. Would definitely have him back again.

We let Brian and his guys in early in the morning on a Thursday, then left for the weekend. He called to update us a couple of times, seeking approval for replacing boards too. He did what he said he'd do, when he said he'd do it. Followed up. Did not accept payment until after we saw the finished floors. Knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. I'd recommend him.

Brian (Legur) (owner) was very responsive from the beginning of this process. We had several contractors out to a house we were buying once our offer was accepted. Three flooring professionals came in on the same day and each gave us a bid. Brian?s bid was the highest, but he explained every part of the process and said, ?Even if I don?t do the floors, make sure you . . .? and gave us specifics regarding what we should have another flooring specialist do in order to get the best results for our floors. Because of Brian?s honesty and his interest in explaining, as well as his clarity about everything, I wanted to use his services, even though his estimate was the highest. I believed since the floors were original to the home (100 years old) this would be our only chance to make them look great, and I didn?t want someone with less experience doing the floors and making them look less beautiful than I felt they could be. The floors had been covered by carpet for 40 years, and after removing the carpet it was obvious there was a lot of water damage/staining near the radiators. Repair work had to be done by several of the radiators, and there was also urine staining in some areas from a previous pet. In the living room there were 3 or 4 deep, long, curving scratches in the middle of the floor, and in one bedroom and a corner of the living room some of the wood, including the inlay, had to be replaced, since the water damage had ruined parts of the wood. Brian explained that not every single mark would come out, but after sanding he felt like most of the staining and scratches would be almost invisible, and after the repairs some of the more damaged areas would look very good, although perhaps would be an exact match to the existing floors. Brian kept in touch with us every step of the way. It took months before we were able to close and actually get into the house, and Brian called me each month to get an estimate of when we planned to close. At one point the closing date was moved back by almost a month, and Brian made sure to accommodate us and schedule the start of our floors the day after our closing. Once we closed, he came over the same day to get our keys, and commenced taking out the carpeting the next day. He told us the entire process would take 10 days to 2 weeks, and he finished 2 days early. Brian called me every other day or so to touch base and let me know the progress, and encouraged me to come over and have a look at the floors after each step. He also put several stains on the sanded floor in order to let me pick the stain I wanted. He told us when the floors were being repaired (the first Saturday). He called to tell us when he was sealing the floor, and how many days it would take to do the polyurethane. We were always told up front exactly what he was doing and how long it would take to do it. He gave us an estimate for repairs the evening after sanding the floors, and when he got the go-ahead for the extra expense (he told us the first time he came out there would be repairs and he couldn?t tell us how much at that time, but would let us know as soon as he knew) he did the repairs immediately. The finished floors look incredible. Almost like new, but with a patina of old wood, and a satin/semi-gloss finish that highlights the floors but doesn?t look fake. Burnished is what I?d call them. There is some very slight clouding in a few small places near the radiators, but after the radiators are installed and the covers put back, these will not be visible. From the very beginning Brian told us that some of the stains/repairs might still be visible because the floors are old, but he would do his best. The scratches in the living room came out and are not visible. The urine stains are also gone, and some of those stains were quite dark and I thought they might not come out. Absolutely cannot see any trace of them. Brian gave us valuable information about how to care for the floors, as well as the best sit online for furniture pads. He also told us how long the floors will last, and asked us to call him every year or two to look at the floors so he could let us know if anything needed to be done. When he started the floors he called to tell us about the staining around the radiators and advised us to get a plumber out to make sure all the radiators were in good working order. We found out from the plumber that the prior plumber/handyman had installed some of the knobs incorrectly, which is why there was such bad staining near two of the radiators. He also told us that some pipes that were run from the heater (in the basement) were the wrong size and would need to be replaced, or we would hear that knocking that is so annoying. If it hadn't been for Brian, we would not have been aware of the radiator problems. Brian also gave us a discount because he finished a couple days early and this was a gift from him to us -- because, he said, this is our first house. My husband was thrilled at the discount, and both of us are elated by the results. Brian is a consummate professional, as well as an artisan -- floors are what he does and the outcome of our floors exceeded our expectations. Do not hesitate to hire Brian. He is on site every day with his crew and oversees every step of the process. The results are worth his fee. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Brian!

After meeting with several general contractors and floor installation specialists, one meeting with Brian from Grain Flooring proved he was the right person for my job. I wanted to install hardwood flooring that would match the other hardwood flooring in my 90 year old home and Brian was the only guy we met with who I felt listened to what I wanted, knew how to accomplish it and could explain how/why in great detail. Because I was impressed with his flooring knowledge and expertise, I asked him to take on the entire room project which included straightforward removal of trim work throughout the room, repairing the areas where trim was removed and replacing the casing around the front door entrance with crown molding. The project also involved sanding/painting. From project start to finish, Brian was timely, explained every step and delivered exactly what he said he would. He was responsive to any concerns I had along the way and kept me comfortable throughout the whole process. The flooring turned out exceptional and really transformed the entryway of the house. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Brian and his assistant Paco. Brian did everything he said he would do and more. Brian left the house clean each day so that there was minimal sawdust and all of the equipment was left out of the way. At the end of the job we were left with beautiful matching stained floors. Brian really wanted to make sure we were happy with our refinished floor and our new floor which is in the adjoining room. In order to make sure that the 2 floors would match Brian made suggestions as to the quality of the wood we should use on the new floor. For example, the existing floor had various grades of wood so instead of installing only the highest grade wood for the new floor which is what we thought we wanted, he suggested we use the same grades of wood for the new floor so that they would match. It turns out that this was a great suggestion and it saved us some money and we have a consistent look for the 2 adjoining rooms. Brian also did some extra work at no charge. We had just remodeled our kitchen and the new wood saddles which were not installed by Brian were not even with the new kitchen floor. I asked Brian if he could do anything about this as he was going to stain the saddles anyway and he gladly removed them and sanded them down. When I did find something on the floor that wasn't perfect Brian gladly fixed it. The bottom line is that Brian did a great job, showed up when he said he would, kept his price at the agreed upon price and left us with beautiful floors. If we do additional work with wood floors, we will be calling Brian.

The dining room wood floor warped as a result of a leak caused by an ice dam in the gutter. Brian was prompt on the day scheduled for work and completed the removal of the old floor and the installation of the new in approx. 6 hours, taking the old flooring away. We previously used Brian to install wood flooring in three bedrooms and were very pleased with the results. Brian is a professional and his experience and knowledge are evident from the initial consultation to job completion. Brian is slightly more expensive than the "factory" wood flooring installers, but if you want quality work from someone who is detail minded and ensures customer satisfaction, then you could do no better than contracting with Grain Flooring.

Brian and his team did a excellent job staining our floors. What we really liked was that he was involved in the work, was enthusiastic, paid great attention to detail, always answered our questions, showed up on time and was always reachable. He worked around our schedule. We showed him around the house and he gave us helpful suggestions for improvements. Brian was great from my first contact. I had emailed him the night before and he had replied by 5:30am the next day. We had not yet closed on the house but had access for an afternoon and we wanted to have a floor person in to give us an estimate. Brian was able to come that afternoon. He explained many things to us along the way. He was able to start the work the day after the closing. He was very accommodating when we had a surprise cement floor under some carpeting and was able to squeeze in work on our garage, painting and patching a previous leak. He finished super quickly, provided updates every day and was very neat. He was extremely cognizant of the fact that we wanted to get into the house as soon as possible. I would recommend him and use him again in the future. I received his name from a friend who also used him but I also read the Angies List reviews. I was not disappointed.

Brian did an amazing job. We were looking for a quick turnaround so it could be completed before we moved in and he was able to complete the job within 10 days of giving us the quote. To meet our time requirements he even came in and worked on the weekend. Our house required more than a little TLC from a professional and he delivered. He had to repair/replace some existing hard woord and install new hardwoord but you wouldn't be able to tell. It all looks as if it was a brand new installation. He even did the stairs and hand rails to match the custom stain he did for us. What I appreciated most was the time he took to explain everything he was doing. As a new home owner and a curious person I had a lot of questions which he gladly took the time to answer. I would highly recommend him to anyone who was looking to have hardwood floors installed or refinished. The house is completely transformed thanks to his work. There's a reason he's the top rated in his field on Angie's List, a true craftsman and pleasure to work with.

Brian made our deck look brand new and managed the work in a way that encourages me to support local small businesses v. sub-contracting through one of the big box places. Brian provided a detailed quote and took the time to walk me carefully through his proposal. Brian scheduled the job quickly and finished on schedule. Brian stayed within the quote even though he proactively looked for ways to make our deck better and safer. I am used to vendors trying to find "issues" to increase the return on the job, so when Brian did this to make the work better within budget it was refreshing. Brian knew the relevant codes and made sure our deck exceeded them and looked terrific at the same. Brian communicated what he was doing and why throughout the job and delivered everything promised. We are extremely pleased with the work performed and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

From the first phone call to the last conversation Brian (the owner) was very attentive and always available. He was punctual and worked around our schedule with very little advance notice. He went above and beyond to make our floors look amazing. We had several estimates prior to meeting with Brian, but his confident assessment of the work led us to go with him. He was able to fix areas of the flooring that other companies insisted would require removing and replacing large sections of the wood. The cost and time estimates he gave us were right on the mark. He and his team worked through the weekend, and actually did more than we contracted them for in order to fix preexisting woodwork issues at no cost. The end result end is beautiful. He and his team were consummate professionals. Thank you again Brian!.
