 + -1 moreThis is the second time we used Rutgers painting, and were very pleased both times. Last time, they painted the exterior of your house. This time, they painted the master bedroom, one bathroom, foyer/hallway of center hall colonial, and kitchen (including staining entry doors). The foreman and all workers were pleasant to work with. They were very careful to cover up furniture/floors/windows They got rid of all surface defects/holes and did a great job on details such as molding. Highly recommended.

 + -1 moreOverall, we were pleased with the work and would rate it "very good." The team worked quickly, did very good prep work on the ceilings and walls, and left the house clean. I would have liked to have the cabinet stripped and sanded more thoroughly before they applied the stain and polyurethane.

 + 1 moreThey wrote up two different contracts for exterior and interior painting. I spent $4,000 totally. The workers were all excellent. They were very professional. However, the coordination of the job by the guy, who was supposed to do the coordination of the timing and the scheduling, was not very good. There was a lot of confusion regarding who would do what job at what time. The coordination between the interior and exterior jobs was very disappointing. The job was good, though. Their price was good as well. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I got a lot of rooms painted by Rutger’s Painting, four months ago. They mostly did interior painting for me. On the exterior, they did powerwashing and painted the trims, the foundation, the railings; etc.

 + -1 moreWhen Bob he came over to look at the house, he said the estimate would be ready in a few days and requested that he deliver it in person so we could review the details. He also let us know that he would ask us to make a decision then so he didn't have to make repeat trips to our home. When the estimate was ready, I instead asked him to email it to us so he wouldn't waste his travel time, and so we could make a decision without same-day pressure. He was reluctant for only a moment - explaining that some details are better discussed in person - but passed it along promptly. I truly believe that we would have gotten good service from Rutgers. Bob provided a number of references (though some of which had wrong phone numbers) and the folks I spoke with had positive experiences. Bob was persistent and understanding in our selection, and I would hire Rutgers for future (probably interior) projects. Our rationale for not choosing Rutgers was that another company was going to include additional surface prep (sanding to bare wood) and their price was also quite reasonable.
Description of Work: I met with Bob and discussed the exterior painting of our home. He provided a detailed estimate of the work to be performed - he was professional and courteous and the estimate was competitive. However, we chose another painter.

 + -1 moreRutgers did an excellent job, they were very professional, punctual, everyone was very polite and a pleasure to have wotking for you. The house had not been properly sanded prior to painting in a very long time (just bought house 1 year ago, so not sure how long), and this meant more prep time, the workers were very hard working and worked long days (even in that crazy heat), the finished house looks awesome now. Would not hesitate to use them again, or refer them to others.

 + 0 moreThey were very through, had great attention to detail, really good work ethic, and were very careful of our things. They went above and beyond. They did make a small mistake but made me aware of it and fixed it immediately. They were punctual and got the job done in time they said they would. They painted many rooms at once, they were very efficient. Afterwards we found a light fixture that was not working, and they got it to work. They were very easy to work with, I would high recommend them!

Description of Work: I had engaged Rutger's to provide me with an estimate om power washing and sealinng my pressure treated wood deck. As it turned out, this service was not necessary since the deck was alreday sufficently sealed.

The house had not been painted in some time, and a significant amount of prep work was needed. Rutgers took the time and did an excellent job with the prep. Nearby neighbors commented on the thoroughness and tidyness of the work. This is the second time that I have used rutgers Painting, and I would definately use them again.

Description of Work: Rutgers Painting stripped and refinished my l929 clapboard house in -- are you ready for this! -- in the early l990s. That's nearly 20 years ago! And they did such a splendid job then that I have since needed only occasional touch-ups (on window sills and shutters). As a journalist who writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column on design and lifestyle (Creators Syndicate, Los Angeles), I am intimately involved and interested in the aesthetics of home, both inside and out. So, yes, I am expecting to have the whole house painted again soon and will obviously call Rutgers Painting. Meanwhile, I want to report on my adventure with Rutgers Painting last summer: I was eager to rejuvenate the front of my house -- facing southwest, it had suffered rather more sun-damage than the other sides. Rutgers Painting's founder-owner Kevin Sheridan accessed the job himself, then sent in remarkably skilled craftsmen, who 1. Performed needed repairs of a sagging eave; 2. Repainted the entire outdoor entry; 3.. Removed and replaced dispirited roof shingles that spoiled my "curb appeal;" AND 4. Did such an astonishing transformation on my old wood front door that people are still stopping to ask about it. As Sheridan explained the process (a Rutgers exclusive in the area), it involves European-sourced paint that resembles nothing so much as car enamel when it's dry. To insure such a flawless finish, many days of sanding, painting, again sanding and repainting were required. The Rutgers artisan (who is actually an artist and sculptor after-hours) came every day for nearly a week, removing the door to sawhorses in the yard to work on it, rehanging it every night under a canopy of canvases to protect against dust, debris, etc. i was dazzled by his painstaking expertise...by the final appearance of the red, gloriously gleaming door, accented with a new brass plate (which the Rutgers artisan brought and installed)...but mostly by the enormous face-lift that the project gave my entire house. The experience went a long way toward restoring my faith in American craftsmanship and assuring me that good, caring customer service and fair business practices can still be found.

Per agreement, they completely sanded the old shakes on the house (down to bare wood), spot sanded the new shakes, power washed, primed and painted. The house looks great. The crew was courteous, professional and helpful. When they were finished, we reviewed their work in detail to confirm the work was done to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: We needed to get the exterior of our 60 plus year old house painted. We have a combination of original cedar shakes and 'new' cedar shakes (6 years old) from an extension we put on the house in 2005. The paint on the original shakes was peeling badly. We were looking for a company that would properly prep the whole house and paint. Our goal is to have this paint job last at least 5 years. Some of the paint had started to peel 2 years after the last painting. We called Rutgers for an estimate. Bob arrived at our house at the scheduled time and we discussed the project in detail. Bob was very helpful, professional and experienced. Together we put together a detailed work order. He provided a formal contract detailing the work and costs a few days later. The price was competitive, Bob did a great job representing the company, and we signed the contract. We received a call a few days before the job was started to confirm the start date. It was about a 4 week turnaround between signing and the work starting - not bad as this was during the late spring, the busiest time for exterior painting.

 + 0 moreThey were a small company when we first used them 10 years ago. They have grown and now have a person who comes to give you the estimate. They stuck with the estimate each time, with exception of one time when the window sills and built in china cabinet were involved. They also stuck to their schedule and always updated us with any obstacles. They have a manager for each job, who came to our house every day or every other day depending on the size of the job. They have become a little expensive, so for a small job it may not be worth hiring them. We usually waited till we need 2-3 rooms done.
Description of Work: We have been using Rutgers for 10+ years. The first time was to paint the exterior of our house, including shutters. Since then we have used them about 3-4 different times when we have updated various rooms: liv, dining room, bedrooms. They are very patient as we tried several colors each time. They also had a color consultant who was very helpful.

 + -1 moreThe quality of work was extremely poor and the owner claimed later that outdoor painters had been sent to do an indoor job. It took multiple complaints to get the owner's attention. It took constant supervision to get them to even notice sloppy work that included not painting the inside of the window frames, paint pooling on the hardwood floors and dripping down trim and doors, missed spots on the walls. They did not prep the trim despite me asking for that explicitly at the quotation phase. Today the paint has started to peel and crack only a little more than 2 years since the work was performed. The owner was extremely apologetic and accepted my offer of a much reduced price, but initially was only willing to take off 10%. I now need to have someone else come in and correct the work they did.
Description of Work: Hired to paint walls and trim in 2 bedrooms; and to apply skim coat and paint walls (no trim) in the living and dining rooms.
