Rutger's Permanent Painting

House was done beautifully. Deck had a problem immediately after painting. It started to peel. Painter returned and spot repaired. Soon after paint began to bubble and peel. Now the deck and front stairs are peeling. discolored and terrible. Called again and asked to send pictures. No response. Very unhappy and did not rehire them for interior painting.

We are thrilled with the beautiful transformation of our home by Rutgers Permanent Painting. Kevin, the owner, was very knowledgeable, prompt, professional and courteous as was his entire staff. Their attention to detail in ALL of the prep work of this 90 year old home was meticulous. We can't say enough how conscientous Kevin's team was in performing the tedious prep work. The price was fair especially for the top quality work and high quality paints. We would highly recommend Rutgers Permanent Painting!

The group that came were punctual (coming in around 8/8:30and leaving at 6/7) and worked very hard to get the job completed. They were neat with cleaning up after themselves. The house looks great and we are happy with the work performed!

They did an excellent job. They came on time, cleaned up well, and the job was good. The sales team was a little intense. The work itself was great though.

The painter came with high reviews. His crew arrived on time, and started their work. However, the crew was clearly not trained. They worked with no extra lighting even though the rooms were dark. We had to provide additional lights. They tried to skip doing the necessary prep work and when that was finally done, it was clear that they had little experience in preparing walls for paint. They did not protect the furniture or the rooms from sanding dust! We had to have the room cleaned again. In the hallway, where a ladder was needed, the crew was standing on a 5-gallon spackling bucket. Not only unsafe, but highly unprofessional. More importantly, this type of work put us at risk of being sued in case of an accident. The owner was called and did arrive to inspect. His excuse was that his crew was coming in from doing outside work for the season and was rusty!!!! That is a poor excuse if I ever heard one. The company is clearly not very professional in its work and its crews are clearly not trained. For the price charged, there should have been no problems. They did not even offer to clean up the mess that they created or to have it cleaned for us. I would not recommend this company again nor would I use them again.

We had initially assumed we would set up sooner. In the end, we were juggling a number of things we needed to get done, and ideally in a certain order. The prep and painting took approximately 7 days plus or minus. we had p;anned for them to spray paint. However, they ended up roller and brush painting. The did a fairly through sanding. Kevin checked it out, and actually had them sand more. When I did the final walk around, saw some areas became spotty, so Jose came back to redo those areas and some other minor fixes I found. One example was leaving some of the components to the screen doors that were removed, and painting. Had to take those off since new doors coming in and paint the areas. Also, they handled scraping and painting the step railings.The last remaining thing I am waiting to see get dome is cleaning of the gutters. I paid it in full with the promise Jose would come back and do that as reflected in estimate. Still waiting for them to return to finish this last thing. Also, damaged one of the window wells, and was supposed to replace the cover. Will update posting once those actions are complete. We like the idea that this carries a warranty for 8 yrs, and it can transfer if we sell the house. The last paint job only lasted 1-2 years before saw some peeling, and by 5-6 years it was not looking great. The cost was same or less than with 2 other alternative contractors without the warranty.

This is a tough review to write. Rutgers Painting office is extremely efficient and professional, the contractors that were sent to do the job were not, they were awful. Things done right: -constant clear communication from the home office -honored warranty with no questions Things done wrong by the contractor used for the job: -painted house the wrong color -did not use the paints specified in contract -did not sand/scrape as specified in contract -did not show up for warranty work -when finished with warranty work, they left my front door wide open and did not let me know they were done. I live on a main street and this is incredibly unsafe -did not return leftover paint -dumped leftover paint in my garden, I had to remove tainted soil -used garden hose to clean paintbrushes UPDATE: 5-18-15 After meeting with Kevin and multiple Rutgers mangers, multiple phone calls and emails, I still have not had my front door painted without bubbles or cracks. Last year (Oct/Nov 2014) Kevin came by and took a paint sample from the middle of the door, instead of taking a non noticeable sample from the bottom of the door and the large white scraping hole is still there. I was reached out to yet again by another customer service rep in March. I was told I would be among the first to have my issue resolved, and could I please explain the problem... again. It is now May and nothing. I give up. I will find someone reputable to fix my front door. I would never recommend Rutgers.

They painted the house years ago and they did an exceptional job. Their pricing was very reasonable. I'm going to use them next month.

Exceptional job ... punctual, polite, great clean-up, and very hard working. No nonsense or delays. Very professional job. We are very happy with the final product and we plan to use them again for additional interior painting and painting the house.

The Rutger’s painting crew (Jose) worked with professionalism and expertise in painting our house. Very hard working, co-operative, clean, and polite.

Everything was nicely protected, and foreman was in constant communication

The first painting crew that came was not professional. They were not methodical in their approach to the work and always seemed to be in a rush to get to the painting before all the prep work was completed. They sanded lead paint without having vacuums attached to the sanders (they did attach them after I questioned them about it). On one day, 3 of the 5 member crew, including the crew supervisor, left shortly after starting and didnt return until later in the day. The 2 crew members who did stay didn't know what to do and spent most of the day doing nothing. On the 3rd day this crew walked off the job because they felt I was questioning their process too much. The 2nd crew, led by Mario Monge, was excellent. They were very methodical and thorough and promptly took care of anything I brought to their attention. They did some challenging carpentry work and did a nice job on it. They corrected all the issues left behind by the first crew and went on to do a beautiful paint job. Overall, I would recommend Mario Monge and his crew but not Rutgers.

They did a very fine job. They used an oil primer and two coats of paint. They also did some carpentry. They were very prompt and accommodating.

It was excellent. They did good work, came on time and everything was done well.

They have just finished the job. It is a professional service. I like their courtesy, work crew and the cleanup. So far I like the product. They do permanent paint, it is not a regular house paint, so hopefully if all goes well we would not have to have our house painted again for another 20 years, which hopefully makes it a worthy investment. I liked Mr. Kevin Sheridan, the owner. He answered all our questions and he was very responsive and prompt. He was able to give other customer reviews, pictures and photos. He just seemed very knowledgeable about his products and it was a good experience. We are continuing to use him for the maintenance portion.

Rutger's Painting are all right, but they're not the cheapest.

We were surprised and pleased to hear from the owner of Rutgers Permanent Painting, who came to see for himself what our concerns had been after the original job was finished. Everything that we had been disappointed in has been resolved and some additional carpentry work has also been completed to our great satisfaction. We would certainly call Rutgers again--in fact, we plan to have this group of professionals return to do the inside of our house too.

Rutgers Painting did a great job for us. We have a tough situation, a modern house with a stained exterior, which previous owners had tried to stain and botched. Rutgers did a phenomenal job working with me, carefully choosing the right color, cleaning the surfaces, and staining the house. I was nervous about painting the stucco foundation, but the colors they suggested were perfect and they did that too. They took particular care to clean an intricate panelled door that needed careful restoration. It drives me crazy when contractors won't listen to me or do things on their own that screw things up. I never had to worry with Rutgers. They came in with a good price, a professional approach, and did the work carefully and efficiently. I would say that they treated my house the way I would expect they would treat their own house. They gave me good advice and left the extra paint behind with verbal instructions. I would use them without hesitation again.

I used Rutgers to paint the outside of my home 7 years ago and was very pleased. They did not disappoint the second time! The estimate was higher than what I received from another local vendor, but was not way out of line. The entire group of people that came to my house were excellent - estimator, foreman, and the entire crew. Everyone was punctual, polite, friendly, and efficient. The work was outstanding. The foreman arrived every day to ask me if everything was going to plan, everyone knew my name and was very polite. They are hard workers and nice to boot. It's the little things that you really remember -- they even took the time to repair my storm door that was damaged during during Hurricane Sandy that had been driving me nuts but I couldn't fix on my own! Thanks for that! Above and beyond the call of duty for sure. Will definitely call again for future painting needs.

The man didn't cover my garage door opener and blew it out. They denied the contract we had and wanted an extra $250 for the doors that were listed to be done for the price originally quoted. They told me they'd give me my money back and I said "No, I want you to do the job you said you would just leave the Doors out and do the rest of the job" They then called me the next day to say they were just refunding me and not going to do the job. They eventually repaired the damage they caused two weeks later. They also did refund my money. I now have to have someone come and re-paint my gutter where they had previously scraped off. They have caused me a lot of aggravation and delayed the painting that I needed done months ago.

We contacted Rutgers and they responded quickly, giving us an estimate within 5 days of contact. They gave us stores where we could look at paint colors and a week to make our paint choices. On giving them our paint choices, they showed up, as announced, three days later to powerwash and then paint our house. The powerwashing and painting went without incident. After painting, on our inspection, we found several places where the job needed to be improved: places where items not to be painted had not been sufficiently masked, places where trim had splatter of base and vice-versa, and one section where paint was applied to a very uneven surface where the paint job looked horrible (this section of the house had been previously discussed with the paint foreman). Rutgers was very professional regarding our "punch list" and sent one of their "advanced" painters to our home to spend a full day addressing the issues. At the end of that day, we were completely satisfied with the remediations and paid the bill in full.

They sanded my house down to the wood and then painted it. They did a thorough, quality job and were very good to work with -- Communicated well, made me their #1 priority, and took care of details and very responsive to things I asked for. My foreman was Byron -- that seemed to make the difference. The other thing I was very pleased with was working with their carpenter, Carlos. He did a lot of necessary, high quality work, and no more than was necessary. He showed up and made me his top priority too. Very happy with his work and would use him again. I have one slight grievance that I could have rectified with them in advance...They didn't use sanders with lead abatement vacuums attached. So, even though they tarped the house and vacuumed up after each day (again, not using the lead vacuums), and literally no dust got inside the house because of how well they sealed off the house, lots of the dust from my 70-year-old house escaped into the air and soil. MAKE SURE YOU'RE GETTING YOUR GROUND TARPED TOO, SEALED TO YOUR HOUSE, AND THAT THEY'RE USING VACUUMS WITH THE LEAD FILTERS. I'm not sure if they were breaking the law or not for an EXTERIOR, but I certainly would have insisted on them doing a better job on the lead if I knew they were going to do it the way they did.

Nightmare. They were only supposed to scrape and lightly sand exterior of rear yard detached garage, which has lead based paint. They took it upon themselves to power sand and remove the paint from the wood. They got poisonous lead dust all over the interior of the garage. They tried their best to clean it up with vacuums and wipes, but much still remains. They refused to pay for a proper lead abatement company to do the cleanup. Mentioned the word "attorney" and suddenly they are willing to pay for lead abatement company. We'll see what happens.

They did a great job in taking the paint off the house. They did a great job in the end but it took a lot of management to get there. They still have to come back to do a window; they ran way over the length of time they thought it would take to get done and it got too cold. The price was pretty good. The guy I was dealing with was unprofessional; he got fired. The company has come back and has been pretty good about resolving the issues.
