I found them to very friendly and very knowledgeable. I was actually hoping to do the work with them, but found that their bid was a bit higher than the other bids. I ended up using somebody else not because I had any problems with them, but because their bid was a little higher.

They seemed very nice. However, we completely changed the plans. It would have been a very expensive renovation with a lot of work. It would have been just too much for us. So we scaled back on the whole project. We never got them to come back and give another estimate. They were very professional when they came out and I was impressed with them.

We had used them before to replace some wood trim on our house that was damaged by bore bees. We felt that they did a good job. They had in the meantime branched out into drywall work. In the spring of 2008, we had a flood because of a pipe burst. We had wood paneling in the room which was the library and study. We decided to have that replaced with drywall. They brought in an electrician too to make sure the wiring was in good shape. We didn?t do a comparative search in terms of price because we had to get the work done in a reasonable amount of time. We knew they were good and that they would show up when they said they would. Their price is probably not the lowest but my husband thought that it was fair - he has an idea about pricing because he has had to contract out drywall as far as his job is concerned. They were generally responsive to my needs. The problem with any kind of job like this is dust and things like that but they really tried hard to get that part of the job done right. They were very professional and generally quite punctual. I would use them in the future, if necessary.

Tico's foreman Jerry was very responsive, always returning calls or emails almost immediately, even on weekends. It took us a long time to decide which of several companies to hire, and he kept checking on us and offered to discuss his estimate if we found a better price. This company had by far the best price for this job, nearly 50% less than the estimated costs from a couple other contractors. We were able to schedule the work easily and the crew arrived very punctually every day and went right to work. They worked hard without breaks and even came early and stayed late one of the days. Most of the work was done when I was not home, and the workers always tidied up at the end of the day and locked the door behind them. We made some last minute changes that required the crew to re-do some work they'd already completed and it was done without hesitation. The work was finished on time. When we expressed dissatisfaction (see below) Jerry was persistent about being invited back to make things right, which he did for the biggest issue and he did it cheerfully. Unfortunately I have to explain the dissatisfaction part: the crew damaged some small areas of the house near where they were working and didn't even say anything to us... they just left it with no note or comment. We thought that was not cool. We found more and more things that were a concern the harder we looked and continued to find issues after the work was done. These included: damage to (original, antique) wooden baseboards around which they were removing plaster/drywalling; cracked the siding in 2 places on the exterior of the house next to where the door was replaced; finish was pulled off the hardwood floors by the tape used to hold down protective paper (actually this was surely also related to an apparently low-quality floor finish, but we had just had it re-done a year previous so it was frustrating... Tico's was not able to fix this). In addition, the workers left a 2" hole in the spackling next to a window frame where they didn't bother to remove a curtain rod holder to reach next to it, slopped little bits of spackling on the wood window frames and railings that we had to scrape off ourselves, tracked plaster dust and bits of spackling on our porch floor (they didn't put down protective paper out there during a few days of the work), left the caulking around the exterior door frame with many gaps in it that would not seal out any water or cold air and smeared the caulking messily around the door frame on the siding of the house, and scratched the paint on the metal door they installed in two little places. Yes, some of these are nit-picking I admit, but others were big things and at the very least they should have done us the courtesy of telling us about them. Anyway, Jerry came back and fixed the exterior siding and caulking around the door frame and did a good job and the workers patched the wooden baseboard before they left. So, overall, there were some negatives and I recommend close supervision if you hire them, but I want to emphasize that Jerry did his best to make it right when we were not happy. So I gave the company the C's above as an average between and the workers' low professionalism for not telling us when they damaged something and some sloppy work and Jerry's high professionalism all throughtout the job and particularly responsiveness to correct what we were dissatisfied with.

They are very reasonable. They are very good at what they do and they do the work quickly. They worked with us to come up with solutions to our problem, rather than just doing what we originally asked. They are reasonably priced for the work. I would definitely call them back in the future. The foreman for the project speaks English very well; however the people who work the job do not always speak English as well. I like that I could get in tough with him about the work. When they came out to do the work we were in the process of selling the home so it needed to be very clean when they were finished. One of the days that they were working I had to leave and they locked everything up and cleaned up very well.
Description of Work: Ticos Carpentry LLC has been out a couple of times within the past couple of years. They most recently installed a cabinet around an open fuse box. They had also removed an existing wall texture and replaced it with drywall.

The outcome was phenomenal and the service spectacular! Ticos was one of 4 companies I interviewed for the job. Their price point came in on the low to middle end of the other companies I researched. I was most impressed with Ticos level of professionalism, creative ideas, and added touches of detail. They came in, spoke with me in depth about what I wanted, created a rough sketch onsite, and then submitted a final sketch with all the specs, detail, and pricing within 1 week of our meeting. They were able to create a blended feel with my fireplace (through the moulding and the wainscottng) to make the bookshelves look like part of the room. Furthermore, they used strong wood for the process - not junky plywood, etc. so the shelves not only look solid but are solid. The biggest compliment I can give them is that everyone who sees the room thinks the bookshelves have been there all along! FYI - they don't do painting though so that was a separate job with different contractor.
Description of Work: I hired Ticos to build two custom bookshelves in our family room. The bookshelves are floor to ceiling with 5 adjustable shelves per unit and then a storage area with closign doors underneath.

Ronnie came on a Friday, June 5th to look over the job. He was polite, professional, and friendly. He said he would either call or email me an estimate by Monday or Tuesday. When I didn't hear anything by the end of the week, I made arrangements to have the work done by a friend of my daughter, who is replacing the entire floor. I finally received an email estimate from Ronnie on Monday, June 15th. By that time the work was already started. I might try them again in the future for other work.

Jerry-our primary contact with the company-made our experience a very good one.
Description of Work: This is a really good team who worked hard to get our business. We did not hire them because they were too expensive. Still, they were very careful to understand our project and stayed in contact with us regularly. The reason they ended up so much more expensive than the contractor we chose is because they have a close cooperation with a masonry company that projected very high costs for our cultured stone work. We also needed some demolition and they were too high on that-maybe they planned higher costs to be sure to avoid damaging the parts of the house that will remain. But we have three other offers on that part of our project and they were the highest by a lot. If our project was smaller (we are doubling the size of our house-adding a two story addition with garage & two full bathrooms) and didn't require the stone work, Tico's might have been our 1st choice.

They were very timely, polite, and sensitive towards the situation. They had people come in to evaluate the damage and made sure that the wires, pipes, and electricity running through was safe and still in good shape. They gave us options on what we could do and we decided on dry walling everything. The only complaint I would have is during cleanup, they missed a couple of spots where the spackling had splashed on the walls. I'm pretty happy with this company and will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We had a pipe burst on the second floor of our home. The water had burst through the ceiling onto the main floor. We had them replace the drywall ceiling and the paneling with all drywall. This is my second experience in using them.

Alex was very prompt providing an estimate and walked me through some of my concerns. I was a bit surprised though when I decided to use the company and found out that the amount I thought was the total, did not include the price of the doors. Which was not clear on estimate. When they came to start the job, it was a VERY cold day and I had asked them to put down more drops clothes and to hang some plastic from the outside (screen porch) leading to my dining room (this is right where our thermostat is located). They said they don't hang plastic. I actually had to get several of my own drop clothes to protect the floor. It was FREEZING on my first floor (thermostat read 50 degrees) so I asked them again to hang plastic and they did not. They also had all 3 doors open and I kept asking them to close them which they did not. Once the work was completed it seemed OK....until I started to really inspect it. The new door that was replaced from the dining room to the screen porch had several screws missing in the hinges, they did not caulk the top portion of the door frame, and there was sunlight shining through the bottom half on the door (DRAFT). The areas around the new frame on the door were crudely caulked and allowed in some more draft. Nothing was spackled and large cracks and missing pieces of wood were just left unfinished. The storm doors did not close properly. They told me that I just needed to adjust the tension so they would SLAM shut. This was unacceptable as I have a young child and another on the way and am concerned about the door slamming too quickly on their hands! The side door really did not close properly (and the small wood piece they installed was cracked on the door frame) and was blown open by the wind and the closing arm was bent. They came back to install another closing arm and basically told me it was not their fault, but the fact that the wind blew it open. However, if it was properly installed and catching on the strike plate and CLOSING, the wind would not have blown it open. They tried to rectify the situation by adding PLASTIC shims under the strike plates and adjusting the tension so each door did SLAM shut. They did caulk the inside door and spackle around the door frame in the dining room. I was still unhappy at this point with the work, but felt they just didn't know how to fix it properly. By this time I spoke with the manager and he finally sent a very competent person over who actually seemed to know what he was doing. He even suggested that the original work done was not correct! He replaced the frame for the side storm door, added a new upgraded closing arm & a chain. I will say that the job manager was very responsive and tried his best to rectify the situation. I was told that my expectations were above the type of work/craftsmanship they could provide. They said I was expecting too much. They told me I was requesting work that a painter would/should do. I disagree.

Had great contact with both the office person and the man (Roni) who came out to do the estimate. He took photos of the old doorway and took very precise measurements. I needed to get the doorway myself and decided to use a local lumber place instead of a home improvement store. When there were questions about measurements and the possibility of using a certain doorway, Roni was happy to discuss these issues directly with the man at the lumber yard. The workers arrived on time but unfortunately can't say the same for the delivery guys from the lumberyard. The two men doing the work were very patient and did not complain. When the doorway finally arrived, it had the wrong sidelights. More discussion with the lumberyard, more waiting for the workers who again were very patient.. Finally got the go ahead to do the work and they did, I believe, a fine job. They cleaned up after themselves and were pleasant and respectful.
