Ticos Carpentry LLC

To clarify, our experience with this vendor began in the spring of 2010, when the vendor provided carpentry (good job) and replaced the roof over a porch. The roof is a flat roof and when it rained, the water puddled, didn't run off and created a leak that warped the ceiling of the porch. Decent job at the time, we thought. When we discovered a problem with the roof work a few months later -- namely, water continued to puddle making us fear that the leaks would continue -- our calls went unanswered. We contacted the vendor again about the problem in the spring of 2011. We also asked for an estimate on repairing gutters around the entire house. We pointed out the problem with the roof and the vendor sent his crew to correct it. They removed the roof and told us the header, which looks like a wooden beam, had been split because of the heavy snow and that was the reason water continued to puddle and leak. We pointed out that the puddling began shortly after they completed the job,which was in the spring and long before the winter snow storms, and that the header problem should have been addressed the first time. The vendor argued with us and said it was not his fault. He said it would cost an additional $6000 to correct the problem. But the biggest problem we had was his attitude when we told that we thought he had not done the job correctly the first time. He was rude and arrogant. We declined his offer to pay him $6000 more and asked him to replace the roofing that he removed. Again, arrogance and rudeness. We hired another company to correct the situation. We will not use this vendor again.

Ticos arrived on time at my house. The salesman was very polite and did spend siginificant time at the house taking measurements and asking questions. He told me the estimate would be emailed to me within a couple days. A week went by and I had to call Ticos to ask where the estimate was. Two weeks later I got an email with the estimate. The price of the job was double all of the other estimates I received. Basically, they weren't even in ballpark with their prices. I can't comment on the quality of work they provide, but I'm sure it is not worth twice as much as all the other contractors I spoke to.

VERY professional..owner and crew. Diligent workers, polite and cleaned up after the job. Can't recall the exact price, but do remember it being as quoted.

However, when we were ready to do the job and contacted his office for reference on previous job he never got back to us. I called (4 times), all 4 times he never got back to us... Their unprofessionalism was appalling.

There was nothing that I disliked about them. I liked the way they handled the whole estimate process and contacting me. They seemed knowledgeable and I thought that their price was competitive.

I spent about $1500 for their service. I felt like their price was lower, but then they found other things when they came here to get the job done. If they estimate it correctly, then they wouldn’t have to surprise the customer with hundreds of dollars extra on add-ons at the time of the job. They said there was $1500 worth of work. Then when they got here, they said that there were a few things that weren’t noted in the estimate, which was another $500. I was in a position where the painters were coming and I didn’t have time to go get a new carpenter. I thought they gave me a fair price at that time. However, I didn’t know they had neglected to include so many things. If I hired somebody else then my whole painting job would have been delayed for weeks. I wouldn’t use their services again.

We decided not to use them because the estimate was quite high to us. They were fine. They were professional and they handled the estimate very well. It was just high compared to the other estimates we had gotten. It did take them a while to get back to us. They told us they would have the estimate ready within 48 hours. I had to call them a week later for the estimate. They were very responsive in terms of coming out for the job but they were less responsive in terms of providing information or feedback. They were fine except for the lack of responsiveness. The estimate was much higher than the others.

We had contacted Tico's for an estimate for the addition of two pergolas to our existing multi-level deck. Our home is in eastern Warren County, very near to the Morris County border. Both of these counties are listed under the service area of their Angie's List Business Description: "20 employees. Subs used for labor. Cost is determined by the job. No travel charges. May contact through email. Additional service area: Hunterdon, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex & Warren counties." We made an appointment with the receptionist with the standard one-week wait for a site visit. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. I had to take a half-day off from work in order to be home for the site visit.One hour before the scheduled appointment a Tico representative called to cancel the appointment, because there had been a mix-up and that Tico does not serve Warren County. I stated that both the receptionist that made the appointment and the company's Angie's List entry listed Warren County as part of their service area. The company representative asked me for the name of the receptionist, which I did not have, and told me that the receptionist had made a mistake. The Tico's representative also stated that the Angie's List listing was incorrect to include Warren County. I explained to the representative that it would have been helpful if the company had discovered this error sooner than one hour prior to the scheduled appointment considering that there was a week between when he appointment was made and the scheduled site visit. She apologized and hung up.

They were nice guys. I did not have any issues with them. Their price was too high. His workmanship looked great. He seemed to be reasonable. It just did not seem right for me to spend more money for the same kind of job done by others. I did not have any reason to think that the quality of work would be anything greater.

He was very nice to work with. I expect him to do a good job.

We had previously used Tico's for carpentry and drywall with excellent results. We had tried other roofers on the same roof with less than perfect results, so when Tico's added roofing to their categories, we called them. They came out and gave us an estimate and scheduled the work 2+ weeks later. Teey arrived as scheduled and quickly and neatly completed the repairs.

Great! They were on time, friendly, and willing to discuss any concerns or last minute changes that came up in the course of the job.

Their work was done very well. They were on time and very professional. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

He provided an estimate for roofing and gutter work. He took the time to answer all my questions.

They are very good but very expensive. I had someone come after him to do something else near the roof and they said the work up there was very good. I recommend trying your best to negotiate the price. He was pleasant and professional so I have no complaints about that. I have no complaints about the work either, I just thought the price was high.

Tico's Carpentry built and painted a beautiful built-in desk and bookshelf unit for a client of mine in Hoboken, NJ. I sent them a drawing and within a couple days I had an estimate and a meeting set up to discuss the project. We met one additional time to discuss final details with the contractors and 3 weeks later the unit was ready for installation. Tico's stayed in touch with me throughout the process and always got right back to me if i had any questions. They were a pleasure to work with and produced a beautiful piece that my clients absolutely love. The quality and professionalism was above and beyond any contractor i've dealt with in the past. I would and I will hire them again in a heartbeat.

We have used Tico before. They have been consistently reliable and professional. They were on target with their estimate and performed the work within the time they said they would. A pipe burst about two months after their work was completed. I called them about it and they came and repaired the problem without complaint or seeking extra fees.

Estimators and workers were on time, clean, and did all the work requested. They asked us to check, and willingly did further minor trim and detail work. The estimator was forthright and not pushy. Their prices are not low, but in the end, we feel we got good value.

They had done other work, so they threw the roof repair in for free. That was very nice. They did the work very quickly. They seemed very clean.

CAME OUT TO SEE THE JOB WAS VERY PLEASANT AND KNOWLEDGABLE BUT NEVER CALL ME BACK OR SENT THE ESTIMATE AS HE SAID HE WOOULD. I CALLED HIM 5 TIMES AND HE NEVER RESPONSED

Punctual, on time and fast- two days. No surprises, the bill came in as quoted and the guys were in and out. There was one thing that we could "ding" them for, which was the amount of random nails and left over materials we found all over the property after a large wind storm. But... my husband should have checked BEFORE he signed off on the paperwork- not all their fault. Otherwise, the price was very competitive, the responsiveness great, and very professional.

The whole experience went very well. Alex from Tico's came by and gave an estimate. He showed up again the day the work was to begin and re-explained what was to be done and introduced me to the two workers. They cleaned up when they were done and i am quite satisfied. They also do roofing work as well and work with local painters.

All work done quickly and well. Their truck hit my driveway retaining wall (very narrow drive) and cracked some blocks but they repaired that without any hesitation -- very responsive. I will use them again.

Overall the project went well, there was issues with scheduling initally but the owner Jorge made it work and was very professional. The work occurred over two days, the roof was done first then then the gutters two days later. The workers were very neat and took away all the debris. The supervisors and owner were very attentive and very thorough in explanining the scope.

Tico's was very good. They return calls, show up on time, do everything correctly, clean-up very well after they're done. I think that they may be just a tad pricey, but for things like the roof, I really really really want to get the job done right. I have no complaints and will definitely use them again.
