Description of Work: ACE MASONRY & BUILDERS replaced collapsed 3 foot high wall (80ft long), adjoining neighbors property and walk way (approximately 16 feet) and other misc. This projected was completed on 4/18/2011 for $7500.

+ -1 moreThey were very responsive, professional and polite from beginning to end. They came out for an estimate right away, performed the job soon after we accepted the price and did a great job. There was even a minor mishap with some excess tar getting onto the sidewalk, they took care of cleaning it up immediately. They stuck to the estimate & even did a little more repair of the Belgium block than originally anticipated without charging extra(the area in question had been snow covered). I received a follow up call to make sure all gone well. Overall, a pleasurable experience.
Description of Work: They repaved a driveway, including removing tree roots from under the driveway and re-setting Belgium block border

They gave me a very detailed quote, but it was soley based on the price that I removed them from my consideration. They are entitled to quote me whatever they want and I can't fault them on the price because if that's what they can get then good for them. They were double two other quotes I had which is questionable in my mind.

+ 0 moreIt went very well. Mr. Allen is very prompt and professional. He is knowledgeable and responsive. I had some concerns and questions about the job and he returned my call promptly and answered all my questions and concerns. Ace stands behind their work. This is my 2nd job with them. Some concrete had broken off from the 1st job and Ace fixed it free of charge because they "stand behind their work". On the driveway, a crack had developed with the patch and they came back and re did it. I am very satisfied with them. I feel they are a reputable company that has been around awhile and will continue to be there for me. .
Description of Work: repaired asphalt driveway, sealed driveway, remove and replaced concrete platform and 2 steps. Rebuilt new black wall and 2 new concrete slabs. Also reset 2 flagstone pieces, replaced drain, cut some old railing, repair concrete edging on walkway.

Patrick stopped by within 1 hr of my phone call, presented the proposal the next day and the work began within 48 hr of my original call. The team was staffed with the right number of people and everybody showed up promptly on time. Everybody was very professional and knowledgeable. Patrick provided all the materials, went into trouble of looking for a hard to get paint and was most generous with his services. All the work was of excellent quality and was done promptly on time. I can recommend Ace Masonry to any of my friends without hesitation.
Description of Work: Restoration to the existing brownstone front entrance 9 step staircase and sidewalls. Demosaw cut existing structural cracks and install high strength concrete caulking. Paint and seal the entire staircase in brown acryllic cement. Restoration to the existing damaged brownstone coping at the base of the 1st story windows. Restoration to the existing front entrance wood door and trim molding. Restoration to the front existing bluestone sidewalk.

My first experience with Pat Allen, owner, was that he was the first contractor to call me back while I was seeking estimates. He was also the first to give me an in-person estimate. Pat was also able to accomodate my tight scheduling. I own a 2 family home and needed to have the repair work done within a 3 day window while my tenants were away. Pat was able to make this happen. The stairs were replaced on schedule and done beautifully. I believe Pat and his crew went above and beyond my expectations. I would 100% use them again. Thank you Ace!

+ -1 moreThe front of the brownstone needed masonry repairs badly and not knowing who to call, I went to Angie's list and I am glad I did. I called Ace Masonry and was pleasantly greeted and set up and appointment with Patrick Allen. Pat arrived promptly for the appointment. He examined all the problem areas and gave me a quick estimate for the job. I found his price more than fair for the work involved and agreed to let him do the job. No time was wasted and the work started the next day and with a hard working crew of six workers. I was impressed and pleased with all the work they did. They worked together like a well oiled machine each of them knowing the specfic tasks that they needed to complete to get the job done. This job was completed neatly and quickly in the most efficent manner and all of it done in a short period of time. All the work on this job was completed in a 2-3 day timeframe. Other masonry contractors would have taken one or two weeks to complete this project. Patrick Allen is a rare find in the world we live in today and I am sure I would use his services without hesitation on any future projects that I may have.
Description of Work: 1-Powerwashing of 1st floor level of 4 level brownstone building. Any loose or bad bricks were removed and replaced and reset after the powerwashing. 2-Repairs to building entry stairs. The stairs were rebuilt to code. Crack repairs on Bilco steel entry door to basement were repaired and the sides resurfaced to look brand new. 3-Entire first floor exterior was painted using an appropriate color to existing brick with a contrasting trim color where it was appropriate. 4-Ground level coalchute area was closed up with new brickwork. 5-Exposed side of building had stucco cracks that were also repaired about 50 or 60 foot area total. 6-All debris was removed and work areas left clean daily. All labor and materials are included.

+ 0 morePat was very punctual and was very cautious. He even accommodated my changing the appointment couple of times. He is very knowledgeable in what he does. and i believe he does his work very well as well from the other comments he got. Only reason i haven't selected him for the work is.. he is very pricey. i have given the work to someone else, who is doing a pretty good job for 9000. the quote i got from Mr.Allen was 25000 dollars. If i can afford that amount, i would have gotten it done by him.

+ 0 moreMr. Allen came to give an estimate the same day he was contacted. (5/17) He was courteous & informative concerning options we could consider & pointed out some areas needing repair which we had overlooked- pointing & caulking which had begun to deteriorate After we agreed to his estimate & detailed proposal, he indicated the work could start on Thursday rather than the following Monday if we were available. He called to let us know the crew would be slightly delayed on Thursday. When the crew of six arrived, they worked steadily & completed more of the job than we had expected. Friday they arrived at 8:00 AM as promised, worked steadily, broke for lunch, and had the job completed by six PM. Mr. Allen came by to check the work and ask if we were satisfied, which we were. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how nice it looks. Overall this was the most pleasant experiience we have had with a contractor in some time.
Description of Work: Workers installed a four foot high decorative cinder block wall, limestone risers on the steps, power washed existing wall & brick veneer on front of house. They repointed the brick & used concrete caulking in areas showing need of repair. They also power washed concrete on the deck floor. They cleaned up thoroughly on completion.

+ 2 morePat arrived right on time Monday Aug 31st, for the estimate and sent a written copy to my email account right away. He came the next to to pick up my signed paperwork and his team began on Wednesday Morning. Our sidewalk had large pieces of slate in it which I asked them to save, if they could. They saved every piece for me and set it aside. I was home that week and was able to watch. The team arrived on time and worked very hard throughout the day. They finished the sidewalk and driveway by Friday afternoon. Excellent work!
Description of Work: Demolished and removed old nasty driveway. Leveled area and paved new driveway. Demolished and removed sidewalk. Dug out new path for sidewalk and moved topsoil and grass to old location. Laid gravel, sand and pavers in new path for sidewalk. Powerwashed the bricks on the side of the driveway. Put new cement on the sides of out steps. (Beautiful!!!)

Patrick and his team were very professional and pleasant to interact with. The Ace Team worked on Saturdays, even though they usually are not expected to work on weekends. Very clean and dust free! Patrick always kept me informed of work progress and status and could be reached by phone when needed.
Description of Work: Demolition and removal of the existing asphalt driveway. Installation of 2" of 3/4" clean stone and compact. Installation of 3" of top asphalt (approx. 920 sqft). Demolition and removal of the existing concrete and asphalt at the back side of the house. Construct a new brick paver patio/car port using Cambridge brick pavers and install alley paver from front to back - color and design to be selected by Homeowner. Install drywells and a Belgium block border rear of the driveway to front right side. Installation of lattice under the deck and a paver border at the seed of the deck. Installation of a Belgium block border in the alleyway on the left side of the house from the front of the house to the gate. Installation of a temporary support on the awning. Remove handrails and set aside. Complete demolition and removal of the brick adn concrete staircase. Rebuild using new brick (to the existing size) with new limestone steps, a limestone wrap, and a new center concrete platform. Bury 3 roof leader drain pipes. Excavate trench. Installation of schedule 45 underground piping. Additional brick pavers used to extend right side walkway to fence and split cost of additional pavers back to the fence of the garden Clean, prime, and paint existing handrails. Reinstallation into the new staircase. Drill 10 - 3/4" holes through the step and staircase. Installation of cement and reset existing rails.

+ 0 moreThe president, Pat Allen shows up two and one-half hours late and no apology. He spent all of five minutes at my house. He didn't care to listen about the work I wanted and instead told me that he was going to remove one full course of bricks, remove the flagstone top, remove the iron railing (but he doesn't reset the railing and instead I must use his friend who charges about $150.00 to reset. In addition, the step repairs was going to cost $1500.00. I asked for stucco for the wall and instead he quoted $3000.00 to install a wire mesh and two coats of parge concrete. His estimate of $4,500.00 (which was just a verbal quote) was very high for the scope of the work. However, he did mention that he was leaving for vacation to Florida the next day and viewing his fully loaded H3 Hummer he drove in, I would say his prices are very high to pay for his lifestyle. I'm finding another mason.
Description of Work: Requested estimate for repairs to masonry steps and to stucco retaining wall.
