Good job. The team arrived on time, were polite, and cleaned up afterwards. The angle iron and repainted brick look much better. Also, Mr. Allen volunteered to evaluate a home that we had considered purchasing, and gave detailed feedback and estimates for the masonry upkeep and repairs.

I highly recommend Ace Masonry! Pat Allen Owner is extremely knowledgeable about the masonry business and is a very nice person. He’s assembled a crew that worked quickly and expertly. We had our existing slate and mortar backyard dug up and replaced with paving stones, we also had the area edged with stone to retain the flower beds. The crew arrived on a Tuesday morning before 8 and moved all the furniture out of the way. Less than 4 hours later the yard was dug up and all the stone was removed. By days end the yard was ringed by beautiful mortared stones retaining the dirt for the raised flower beds. Fast forward to Saturday 12:30 pm and the job was completed ahead of time, even though a workday was lost to rain. The crew is the best! They left the yard clean and their equipment organized every day. If it wasn’t for the work progress you wouldn’t know they had been there. As a finishing touch, Pat replaced my existing mulch that was lost during the work, what wonderful attention to the little details. They also moved all my furniture back. The pavers are beautiful and the flowers ring the area with color. It’s now one of the nicest places to sit and relax in Jersey City. We shopped a few quotes and Pat’s price was more than competitive and his work is impeccable. Before he left on Saturday we discussed another project and we expect that to start in the coming weeks.

Our condo reached out to Ace to receive an estimate for substantial cracking in our facade on one side of the building. Pat was responsive and helpful with laying out the cause of the problem and scope of the work to remediate. Ace completed the work timely and the results were great. We have already contacted Ace for additional cosmetic work for the remainder of the building. I should add our building reached out to several other companies who either quoted a ridiculous amount or no showed on estimate appointments.
Description of Work: We had large cracking in our faux brick facade that needed repair.

Retaining Wall Hasbrouck Heights, NJ June 7,8,9,11. 2018 Let me start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed my relationship with Patrick Allen, President of Ace Masonry & Builders Inc. Pat is a rare find. He personally came out to my home job-site and listened to everything I had to say with patience and without attitude like the first two contractors exhibited. After a clear understanding of what I wanted, Pat drew up a clear, detail oriented contract that I understood and felt confident with, and it contained no predatory language that would allow him to charge more at his discretion alone and or walk away from a job in progress if I didn't agree with the company's opinion. Pat is a class-act! Now the fun part. My wall is beautiful. It has allowed me to open up the backyard and the feeling of so much extra space is unbelievable! The wall runs 54' long and varies between 24" and 30" made of new concrete block 10"x8"x18" resting upon a concrete footing. There are preliminary steps, the digging, the gravel beneath the footing compacted, the new concrete footing and the placement and cementing of the blocks and the pancake top. Behind the wall, drainage pipes, gravel backfill and finally, a dirt-grading up to the edge of the wall. Did I mention that all my field stones that were in the work area were removed along with the vegetation that I cut to give clear access? When you are renovating your property and have unnecessary clutter like rocks in this case, having your contractor remove them is just one less headache since disposing of anything these days is probably regulated. This is the guy, and his crew, that you want working for you. I can't say enough and you will too, if you hire him. Fair Price. Quality materials and workmanship. You've got to see my wall! See pics. Next, a fence and a pool. Sincerely, Jack Wilga

The demo work was done quickly, with clean up each day. Parts of the demo were taped off with stakes and caution tape to avoid any mishaps by pedestrians walking by. Mr. Allen checked the progress each day and the crew was always early to my site to start their day. No litter from their break time meals or the demo was left behind. The end results using the modified herringbone pattern and the use of Belgium block along the pathways was beyond what I had hoped.
Description of Work: Two weeks ago Mr. Peter Allen came to discuss a project I wished to complete which included new cement sidewalks and apron along the road, a new driveway,a pathways to both entrance ways to the house and a platform entrance to the side garage door done with Cambridge pavers. Within 2 days I had my estimate, was shown the best design for the pavers, and obtained all permits.

We researched extensively for a mason to replace the staircase in front of our home. We chose Ace Masonry for multiple reasons. We received a very quick response to our inquiry. The owner, Patrick, called and made an appointment to come by the next day. I was not at home when he came by, so he called me later in the early evening and spoke to me about the scope of work. Patrick told me the options that I had, and gave me a price for the work. Once our decision was made, we called Ace Masonry to offer them the job. Patrick met us that evening in our home, and he gave us a contract which spelled everything out very clearly. He answered all of our questions. A permit was needed to proceed. Patrick took care of getting the permit, and as soon as it was available, they started the work. Patrick is an extremely professional business person, and is very personable as well. His crew were all very knowledgeable about what they were doing. They worked through some really hot days, but finished the job in the allotted time given, cleaned up each and every day at the end of their day, and left the work site clean and hazard free. Upon taking down the existing stair case, it was found that there was no footing. Patrick spoke to my husband as soon as it was discovered and came by that evening to speak to us together. Of course it was more money, however very fairly priced, given the scope of work. Ace Masonry finished the job on the date promised, and an excellent job it is. I would highly recommend Ace Masonry to work for anyone in need of their services. It is very nice when you see a finished product and it was what you were promised and more. Thank you Ace Masonry, you guys did a GREAT job.

Pat and his crew were great. Started on time, finished on time, fair price. Worked very neatly the whole time. They needed to bring all of the materials through our apartment to do the work in the back and they were very careful and respectful. I would highly recommend Ace Masonry. It is often hard to find quality workers in Hoboken and Ace Masonry is quality all the way.

Pat from Ace Masonry was extremely prompt, came within a few hours of my emailing him on this web site to take measurements and give me an estimate. His crew of five were very diligent and courteous and my steps now look more appealing are solidly built to last. Pat told me that the steps we had were 40 years old, so we badly needed replacement and repair.

Pat Allen and his team did a fantastic job of restoring our exterior stucco, replacing old damaged window lintels, and examined our roof coping for damage. He worked with us on the pricing and timing, despite some delays due to other contracting work that needed to be completed in advance. Pedro, his foreman, and the entire team were highly professional and polite. They arrived early, kept the site tidy, and completed the work in the time needed. Since the restoration was a big job, they needed an extra day to come back for minor touch-ups, and Pat's team immediately returned 2 days later. They also gave us great advice about future work that will need to be done on our home, and for small projects, what materials we can use to touch up. Overall, we highly recommend Pat Allen and Ace Masonry.

Ace Masonry responded quickly upon initially reaching out to them, with my request for an estimate to repair/replace/install our stone walkway and front steps. They were equally responsive in arriving onsite and providing a detailed estimate along with options that fell within what we were interested in doing. They provided stone options, suggestions and the respective costs to help us quickly make our decision. We felt that the quote they provided was very competitive to other options we looked into, with the biggest difference in that Ace turned every request around in record time compared to others. Once we made our decision, they were once again extremely flexible, with a quick turnaround in providing a start & end date for the job. When we gave the go ahead, it was as if Ace had been planning our job for weeks and they arrived within a few days hitting the ground running. They completed the job in the exact amount of time they committed to, cleaned everything up as if it was their own home, and even immediately responded on the spot to some specific post work touch-ups that we asked for. This made the finished job very polished since this was the entrance walkway to our home and has made a huge improvement to the curb appeal of our home. Part of what made this such a smooth project was working with Pat, who was extremely down to earth and customer service focused. I wish Pat could do every home improvement project for me given his responsiveness, commitment to schedule, cost and followup. Based on this experience, I will always look to Pat in the future for any work that falls within his companies purview.

Called to have them come out for an estimate, scheduled an appointment for Sunday 4-12 15 12:00 to 2:00, and was told the day before, he would be here closer to 1:00. We had an obligation at 3:00 we waited until 2:50, had to leave, called and were told to leave a list of the items we needed addressed. Pat called and said he could not find #32, we are #42, but he made it here. After ten days called to ask about the estimate, its been 2 weeks, no reply. If he didn't want the work he should have just said so. Regarding the Company response, it is completely fabricated. He never called to say he was running late. I called them. The woman who answered the office phone did call me back, after calling Mr. Allen to find out how much longer he would be. The only time he called was when he was on my street looking for #32, already well late. I never once requested to be part of the demo crew let alone insist. I simply said I could cut the garage to be demolished at the roof and walls where they attach to the house, ahead of his work, and there was no further mention of it in the conversation. In my review, I tried to be fair and only include the facts of my experience. I feel compelled to respond again because subscribers should know all of the facts.

Response from Ace Masonry & Builders
I arrived at the member's house and yes, I was running late due to traffic. I did call to tell them I was running late and the member said he had to leave. I said I would still do the estimate and call him while on site. When I called, the member told me he wanted to be part of the demo crew up on the roof which I couldn't allow due to insurance guidelines. He kept insisting he help with the demolition and it was a request I could not fill. I didn't send him an estimate because I thought he didn't want us doing the job because I could not accommodate his request.

All went very well up to the point we were going to schedule the work and my wife asked if that was the best price he could offer. The owner got very angry and basically told us that he will not do the job and hung up on me. I The owner came over to inspect our basement floor and give us an estimate for applying a waterproof sealing epoxy paint. knew it was a great price, and was going to let him do the job for his quote, but with my wife in the industry, she insisted we ask, just because. Of course had he just said no, then he would have gotten the job that very next sentence. I even prefaced the question of a better price by saying, "I must ask this, but......" So, his hot headiness will lose him any creditability with me and I feel compelled to pass on his bad attitude.

Response from Ace Masonry & Builders
I had spoken to this member twice and discounted the project total twice: first for being an Angie's List member and a second time when asked to "do a little better on the price". I had scheduled my crew to start this project and the member called back and asked for an additional discount the night before. I couldn't further discount the project without losing money and told the member I was unable to perform the work for less. We at Ace Masonry use the best quality materials and do our best to work with our customers' budgets. Unfortunately, in this instance, we could not.

This is my 2nd time hiring Ace, and the 2nd time a neighbor has admired the work and asked for their contact information. I was confident calling Pat Allen to work on my home, because I was so satisfied with them two years ago. Pat seems to always be on the job, and always answers his phone or returns calls within minutes. The workers are polite and thankful. We had a few days of rain, but they were still here doing what demolition they could. Before they left, they power washed pretty much the entire house and driveway. I'm as excited about my new retaining wall as one could be about concrete. (Would it be weird to hug a wall?) As for the price, I decided to be smart and get a 2nd quote just in case, and the other guy was $7K more!!! No thank you! What a relief knowing that Ace is fairly priced. I'm so glad that I found Ace through Angie's List, what luck! Completely trust them.

polite, honest, friendly, and really knowledgable about the work
Description of Work: Can to look at our structure columns (from 1905). He said that all houses settle and ours is done. He said to be honest he would not take on the job because he would be ripping us off. There was no need to do the columns and explained the reasons why as well as why I received 2 other estimates. He said all it would do is lift the house 2 inches, it really wasn't worth the amount of money (hinted at 5 figures) to do that. If I really had to have it he would but he said he recommended I save my money for another project.

Excellent. The work performed by Ace Masonry was top quality, and the entire team was a pleasure to deal with. This was not an easy job. Our house is in a historic district in Jersey City, so all projects (especially exterior) require permits from the engineering, transportation (for road and sidewalk closures), and historic departments. Pat dealt with all the details and red tape and kept me up to speed along the way (letting me know where we were in the process, what the next steps were, and how long things would take). In order to receive approval from the historic department Pat had to submit multiple samples of tinted concrete as the department required us to match the look of blue stone pavers. While the permitting process took some time (about three weeks) it was all worth it in the end. The sidewalk looks perfect and other contractors have stopped by to look at the work upon request of the historic department. All-in-all, Ace Masonry far exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: Pat (the owner) and his team removed and replaced our front sidewalk after we had a sewer line replaced. They pulled all the necessary permits, dealt with the historic commission in Jersey City (which required a custom tinted concrete), and sawcut the expansion joints to match our neighbors' adjoining sidewalks. The team also replaced a block retaining wall, and patched and painted our front stoop and concrete planter.

Pat is a great person. First... he came and completed a quote without requiring us to be present. Everything was handled professionally over the phone and we set up a date to complete the project that coming Saturday. I was out of town that weekend, so it was perfect timing. I couldn't even tell that workers were outside my hours when I returned. Pat asked for payment after the the completion of the work. I didn't meet the guy until after the work was done and I gave him payment. At first I was hesitant to have a contractor complete work before I met them in person because I have been burned in the past. However, I would trust Pat to complete my next project in the future. Pat listens to his customers, he bends to their schedule, and is a trustworthy guy. Plus the completed work looks great and he referred me to a rail guy that has great prices as well.

Ace Masonry installed a large patio area in the back of our house with Cambridge paving stones. They did a terrific job. Patrick helped me in the design of the area. He responded right away when I called regarding the job. He arranged the work around come other things we were having done for the house. The workman answered all my questions and did a very careful job. They were all very pleasant and worked hard at the job which took several days. In addition to the patio, they installed a stone step from the patio to the small patio coming off of the back door and extended the blue stone walkway from the back yard to the patio. They did an excellent job of installing a contrasting circular pattern in the center of the patio with the same contrasting trim around the edge of the patio. This is the third time I have used Ace Masonry and would use them again. I highly recommend the service.

Ace Masonry was professional and courteous from the start, when we requested a visit for an estimate, up to the completed work. We had to redo our steps and porch platform. And, they did it all in just 3 days. They came on time everyday and worked well and efficiently. They took care of everything, including taking away the old stones and cement blocks, cleaning up everyday, and especially making sure rain would not get into the house by properly covering up the steps and platform area (when it started to rain the 2nd day). At the end of the completed work, the crew put back anything that had to be removed to finish the job. The owner, Pat, was responsive to any questions, but, most of all, he always addressed our issues and concerns after the work. And, Pat referred us to someone, whom they work with, to install new railings for the porch. We are now enjoying our new porch. $7900 for the porch $1250 for the railings
