They consistently did not do what they said they were going to do. The price was also very high for the job they completed. The first guy who came out could not complete the job. The second guy came out and said the first guy was wrong so we kept getting the back and forth on the repair. The handle they were putting on was smaller than the original but said they had an overlay plate to give it the finishing look, however at the end of the job they did not have one so it looks unfinished. The guy came in and put the covers on his shoes but then continued to go out to his truck with the covers so I am not sure what the purpose was for the covers in the first place.
Description of Work: They replaced our shower controls for hot and cold.

I used AJ Perri in the past, their promptness, service and rates were good. This time prompness and service were still good but their repair rates and parts costs have gone through the roof. The cost estimate for the repair to my furnace was extremely high. So high that it was roughly 25% of what a new furnace costs. As this was a Saturday, the part needed to be picked up the following Monday as all the supply places were closed. This gave me time to do some checking. The part (air induction blower) according to AJ Perri was to cost $775 installed. The intial visit cost was to be deducted to cover the labor bringing the cost of the part to $680. After shopping the internet of 9 supply places averaged $125. Either AJ Perri's supplier is ripping them off or AJ Perri is marking up their parts 600%. After confirming this with AJ Peri on Monday, they would not come down in costs gave me a song and dance why they mark up their parts so high so we parted ways.
Description of Work: Technician checked and determined reason for no heat. Provided estimate of repair.

Gilson & Sons workers arrived on time, worked conscientiously and meticulously. They were pleasant to deal with. I am extremely satisified with every aspect of this repair.
Description of Work: Gas boiler pipes had to be reinstalled as original installation was done incorrectly, causing numerous problems. Radiators were very noisy and disruptive. Separate zoned heating area in another part of the house was not working. Gilson repaired it all. The workers Roberto Buell and Dirk were professional and diligent in their service. Jose Roman analyzed the problem successfully and was able to rectify this problem with proper supervision of his workers. I highly recommend this company. You can't go wrong! I give them a solid A in every category, and I'm a difficult grader (former teacher)!

Everything went fine with the repair to the furnace. They did a good job like usual. However, while at our home they recommended us to sit down and listen to a company that installs new furnaces due to the condition of our current furnace, even though the furnace works fine after the repairs. They were going to setup an appointment with a furnace salesman and wanted both my husband and I to be there, even though my husband was the only one there at the time (which we thought was interesting). Based on their inquiry about a new furnace and needing both of us to be home at the time, we did not follow through because we felt it would be a high pressure sales talk. Many of our neighbors have spoken with us about our furnace and also mentioned that none of them had their own furnace replaced. They do good work, we just dont want a high pressure salesman coming in to tell us we need a new furnace.
Description of Work: We have a service contract with Perri and they come out for any problems with our heating, cooling, and plumbing. They serviced a repair they needed to do and we paid for the extra part.

Based on Angie's list reviews, I included this company in my list of candidates. They responded quickly and I felt very comfortable with the sales rep I met (Scott), and since they were willing to adapt my new equipment to my existing A/C (which the other main contender refused to do), I agreed to use them. The guys that came were very professional and pleasant, and did a great job. My one criticism of them is with their back office. I was in limbo for several weeks waiting for them to schedule the install, and then several more weeks due to them not having the thermostat delivered, all with no calls from them to update me. The only way I found out what was happening was after several calls. They should work on communicating more between departments and make outbound calls to customers. As a result of not doing that with me, it turned a potentially wonderful experience into just a satisfied one.

First called AJ Perry for Heating & Cooling for service check. Service person checked air conditioning and furnaces. Furnaces needed to be replaced and he referred us to a AJ Perri Heating & Cooling Specialist, appt made. Specialist came to house, checked house size and footage gave detailed information and prices for size of furnaces needed for house. Installation date set and both furnaces were installed on that day. Very pleased with Service person, Heating Specialists and Furnace Installation team. Highly recommend AJ Perri for Heating & Cooling Services.

What we learned from them is that when they ask for both homeowners to be present during the quote for a new system is that they are going to try and pressure you into signing a contract that day. So if you are considering them for a quote for the installation for new equipment make sure you have other quotes already done. The price of the entire system before discounts was twice the cost from other companies before discounts.

A technician came to the house to inspect our A/C system after it stopped working. Cost of repair did not seem cost justifiable as it was a 20-year old system that never failed. AJ sent over a salesman that described the entire installation process and quoted replacement as well as all rebates. The rebates reduced a $17K replacement to a $11K replacement. All work started on the date agreed to and every step of installation was exactly as proposed. The entire job took one day and the technicians were extremely neat, prompt and respectful of my home. At the end of the job, the technician explained all the work performed, the purpose of each new component and instructed me on the use of the new thermostat Throughout the whole job, the sales staff kept in contact to verify my satisfaction. AJ Perri certainly weren't the least expensive, but this is a rock solid installation that has worked without issue since the installation.

We called several plumbing companies yesterday when we noticed the toilet in the basement was backing up (even though it hasn't been used in several years). We said we needed emergency service and figured it had to do with the main sewer line blowing back into our line due to the flooding the previous day. Several companies told us they would get back to us and let us know when they could come out. A.J.Perri was the only company that said they could be there within 2 hours so we called the others back and told them we didn't need their help. Ken Oles showed up exactly at the scheduled time and looked at our was going on in the basement and determined our house trap was clogged up. He said it wasn't coming in from the main sewer line, however the flooding probably didn't help because of all the debris that went into the shower drain in the basement, etc. He snaked it out and said someone was going to come by the next day with a camera at 9 a.m. with a camera to tell us what the issue was with our sewer pipe. We actually had that done prior to buying the house so even though the house is older and the pipes might be older, we've never had a clog so far. Ken was very courteous and professional, and he gave us a couple of tips on what not to do to prevent further clogs. He did say that once it happens, it could become a recurring problem. We had a coupon for $99 to unclog any drain that had been mailed to us which they honored for the visit, which I thought was reasonable. This morning Charlie Ribaudo showed up at 9 a.m. with the camera. He started right away with about 20 minutes of small talk, which I could tell made my husband suspicious. Then they went into the basement and he put the camera into sewer pipe, and things went downhill from there. Charlie wouldn't put the camera where it had been inserted during the inspection prior to the purchase of the house because he said that pipe would crack. Apparently from there on out, it was basically nothing but dramatics and high pressure sales tactics that our house trap was not going to last another day, and if we didn't negotiate a deal right away, the price would increase by 30%. He wouldn't even give my husband a ball park estimate unless we were willing to do the deal today. Seeing how neither one of us likes high pressure sales tactics, my husband told him, "Thanks, but no thanks." Even if we do decide to get it done, we won't get it done by someone who pressures us. Tonight when my husband tested out the washing machine to see if it worked or not after the flooded basement, the pipe started backing up. He had to go back into the house trap with the snake and unclog it and it seems to be cleared out now so we are wondering how well they even unclogged it yesterday. However, at least now he knows where to go with the snake to unclog it himself until we get the pipe rebuilt by a company that doesn't use scare tactics.
Description of Work: They came and unclogged the main sewage house trap which was clogged after flooding in our basement due to Hurricane Sandy. It had to be snaked in order to get unclogged. The second part of the appointment took place today when they sent a different person out with a camera which was put into our main sewage line to assess if we were going to have continuous issues with our pipes and recommend what should be done about it. This part was complimentary.

They addressed each item and everything met code. They were on top of it right away. They did get great! They were reliable, respectful, and decent.
Description of Work: The town came to clear all the permits. They stated the flashing on the chimney should be longer and caulking around the chimney connection was needed. It needed new co2 meters. I called them and they came right out to install a new boiler.

They are amazing! Everything is working perfectly. I contacted them about a possible leak that was actually condensation. They were very responsive and came out the same day. They clean, professional ,and positive. I was at my mother in laws home and her ac unit stopped working. She had not used their services prior but they came out immediately and took care of the problem. It has been a very pleasurable experience.

There was an issue with the compressor. However, the technicians did their best to resolve the issue and it everything turned out okay. They were clean with their work and cleaned up well after themselves. The township approved the work was according to code.

I called up A.J. Perri for a check up on my furnace. Admittedly I was hoping to get another year out of my furnace. The girl who answered the phone was very polite, and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with the fact that I didnt get a machine as I called after normal business hours. On the day of my appointment the office called to let me know what time my tech would be there and he showed up at that time. Keith introduced himself and handed me a business card with his picture on it, and it struck me that I had never seen that before. He inspected my system, while explaining every step to me and making sure I understood everything. (I ask A LOT of questions). The faults on mine were many and I prepared myself for a large repair bill. Keith told me flat out that I would be better suited to put any repair dollars towards a new system as mine was just too old. I was shocked. Any other company would have been all to happy to take my money and perform the repairs. I scheduled an appointment for a rep to come and discuss replacement. Larry was the rep who came for my appointment. He was well spoken, and explained all the features of new equipment and how it compared to my old one. Its amazing how the equipment has changed. Larry explained all the rebates and I love how A.J.Perri handles the rebates and I dont have to. I was more than happy to sign on the dotted line and have the system installed. My installers were here at 8 am on the day we scheduled as promised. They too introduced themselves and performed what only could be called a presentation installation. When they were done they left my basement cleaner than it was before they started. There is nothing that I can complain about and everybody that comes over I have to show them my system. I LOVE THOSE GUYS!!!

There were 2 appointments we had scheduled in a day as the duct cleaning requires a specific team (and equipment). AJ Perri was able to ensure that the scheduling was done so that the first team member (Daniel) had time to complete the full service prior to the second team arriving. There were several issues that Daniel had found with the units and worked to ensure that the parts he needed could be delivered by another AJ Perri representative while he was addressing other things he had to check that day. There was no wasted time and all of the required work was done without the dreaded 'follow up' appointment! AJ Perri was a bit more expensive than another quote received but it the convenience of such a large outfit that makes the extra expense very worth it. We needed three parts that were not on the truck for a basic repair and the company was able to deliver them all within the hour! Daniel had several suggestions which saved us money for repairs and clearly worked hard the entire time (6 hours!) to ensure that he was as efficient as possible. Additionally, all three of the AJ Perri representatives we had at our home over the day introduced themselves with a photo business card before entering the house. As a woman who was home alone this is a great approach. Additionally, all three of the individuals covered their feet with 'booties' each time they came into the home. The representative servicing the outdoor unit had several trips in/out and removed and put back his shoe covers each time!

It was a big job because I had all galvanized pipes. They were very punctual and had a few service men look at the job. When they told us we would have water by the end of the day, they followed through on that. They were also really great about working out payments for me as it was an expensive job.
Description of Work: I had a plugged sink so I called AJ Perri to look at it. They ended up replacing about 90 feet of pipes.

This review covers both a service job (which was good) and the follow up visit for a replacement estimate (very bad experience). My mother who lives in north central NJ had AJ Perri come out and service her old Carrier furnace last week. The guy was prompt, covered his boots when he entered the house, and did a thorough cleaning. Then proceeded to tell my mom about all the things wrong with her furnace, it was: old, rusted, would never last through the winter, dangerous, had to be completely replaced immediately etc. Now some of this is true and it is about time that the furnace is replaced and it did breakdown last winter. When my mom asked how much it would cost to replace, the guy said he couldn't tell her and that someone else had to come out from the company to do that. In the meantime, she called to ask me to check into AJ Perri and other companies on Angie?s List. The reviews I read online (not on Angie?s List) regarding AJ Perri were pretty harsh complaining about bullying sales approach, very expensive and add on costs etc., and the Angie?s List ratings are just average. So I advised my mother to be careful not sign anything or pay for anything else and just get an estimate so we can review and get in other estimates. In short, the company rep showed up and gave her an estimate but the experience for my mom was horrible. The rep was polite at first. But as soon as she said wasn?t ready to make a decision yet and sign the contract but wanted to give the information to me for review and comparison, Trevor?s tone changed. His tone became very harsh, angry and my mother felt bullied and intimidated and at one point scared. She even told him ?you scare me because you are so angry? but he didn?t apologize. He said things such as: she should have told them she was not the decision maker (which she is for sure, but of course she wants to make an informed, comparative decision), why wasn?t I there then at the appointment & when my mother said I was at work he said he is at work too, he repeated more than a few times that he drove a long way, couldn?t believe he was just giving an estimate and not getting a sale, that he needed an immediate commitment, that one of the hoses was loose and if she turns on the furnace carbon monoxide would leak out so if she wants that then ?go ahead?. All in all, we will never use AJ Perri again nor would we ever recommend them. Shame on them for not having better customer service and training their reps to deal with all customers in a calm, respectful, professional and decent manner. And to realize that of course customers will ask for estimates before committing in order to do comparable shopping as is our prerogative.

They are very professional, on time, and they always call ahead to let you know if they're running late or on schedule. They are also very respectful when in the house. The technicians also wear name badges and identify themselves before entering the house.

This was a large difficult job due to the house's structure. I had agreed to concessions where pipe was to be installed , (exposed in some areas) when quoted. Rob, the foreman, made improvements in the design during installation to eliminate exposed piping and added additional radiation to that quoted where he felt it was necessary. Also, our electric domestic water heater was temporarily relocated until the installation was approved by the various building inspectors. This became extremely important as the building inspectors did not come when scheduled. Both modifications to the quoted design and temporary relocation of the domestic water heater was an increase to the original scope of work, we were not billed for this. Diana in the installation department arranged for all permits, scheduled installation at our convenience and assumed all responsibility for the paperwork process making the overall process much more pleasurable than it might have been. Rob, the foreman, insured that his men were punctual and as mentioned his experience and attitude assured a "happy" owner.

Things went great. My wife and I were both happy with the results.
Description of Work: Matt diagnosed the A/C unit to find out why it wasn't cooling. He checked the filter and used a camera to check the systems coil. He said it was pretty clean which was GREAT news since to get to it, he would have to move our water heater! The previous owners of the home had added a wall to extend a closet and in turn, moved the water heater closer to the furnace for extra closet space...wonderful?! That will definitely be an issue in the future. After doing a bit more diagnostics, he determined the problem may be outside. He took the cover off the outside unit and found the coil was 75-80% clogged. He got some equipment from the truck while I moved the hose to where he'd be working. He first sprayed the entire coil to remove the dirt and debris. You wouldn't believe the amount of dirt that came out of there. Next, he sprayed the coil again using an eco friendly cleaning solution. After that, one more quick rinse and Matt started to put the cover back on. With this completed, we went back inside and found his meter showed a much better air flow. He also adjusted one of the vent dampers which was partially closed. I told him I was pretty sure our thermostat was out of calibration. It was an old style mercury type. He determined it was an older type and could be a few degrees off. Since he had a few new digital ones in the truck, I had him put a new one in. So by now, we felt the room starting to cool off, as the air flow from the vents was even stronger then it was before the problem started. With the work complete, Matt showed us his price book as he explained again in detail the work he performed. He told us about AJ Perri's service plan which my wife and I opted to sign up for, with absolutely no pressure from Matt. Scheduled service for a year, at discounted prices. All things considered, everything went great. Matt was polite, professional, and neat. The one thing I would have liked would have been a lower price, but then again, WHO WOULDN'T, right!!! I guess with the A/C working fine, the new thermostat, and a maintanence service plan for a year, I guess we didn't do too bad. Before you know it, it'll be heating season. See ya soon AJ Perri!
