I was warned that this outfit overcharges; however, I now feel unnessary parts were also being replaced!
Description of Work: We had an annual contract to service our furnace and air condition units. I feel we were charged for unnecessary replacement parts. In the past, we were charged much more than others charged for the same services or replacements.

We paid $99+tax. We also called the town sewer people and they came when the service man was working. Everyone agreed it was roots.
Description of Work: Our toilet wouldn't flush or go down. A service man came, put booties over his shoes and examined the toilet. He then went outside and found water coming to the surface from the clean out and used a snake to cut roots that were preventing the flow to drain.

We called, they came on time,diagnosed the problem in a matter of minutes. They did not have the motor in stock, so they ordered it and returned that same afternoon to replace the seized motor. The technician checked the furnace completely and replaced the filter with a new filter we had available. All considered one could not really expect better service. We thought it was a bit, just a bit, pricey, but they gave us a discount for being with Angie's List and having a maintenance program with them. Cheers,
Description of Work: Repaired the furnace - replaced a motor the day we called (had to purchase the replacement and now is guaranteed for life of furnace the same day) and checked the furnace - replaced filter we had available.

I asked these guys to come and give me an estimate for new gas furnace. Mine is still working but is old. I just needed to get a quote. I called and was told that someone comes to estimate what I need and I was told reserve 1-1 1/2 hours. The guy came in time made his measurements and then began to talk and talk. It took 2 hours. He tried everything to make me to buy a new furnace. He gave a price and then began to tell how I get this discount and that discount if I buy the furnace right away. I told I am not making that kind of decision in 10 minutes as he required. He left and came back in 10 minutes telling that he had called his boss and he gives one more discount if I buy the furnace right there. I am not going to buy the furnace from these people, just because they tried so hard to press me to make such a decision right on the spot. They had good payment plans and everything, but I just don't feel comfortable with such pressing. In the first place I did not ask anyone to come and sell me a furnace, I just wanted to get their quote. Now I don't even know what their actual price would be if I wanted to make decision today, because first I was quoted 13K, then 11K and finally 9K and both the 11 and 9 required on spot decision

The consultant came to the house on time and was very professional. However, after hearing a 2 hour spiel about how great the company is and how all the other competitors are terrible and don't do the training AJ Perri does, we finally find out they won't replace our system. It took the consultant that long to realize we have a high velocity system. If the company and its training is so good, then why can't they trade out the old high velocity system for another? Awful to hear how great they are and then find out later they won't even attempt job. Quote for price was very high.

In all fairness I did not use this company. I called the for a price quote to replace my current central a/c that no longer works and right off the bat I was turned off when they told me the visit would take from 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Who has that much time to waste on getting a price quote. I was tempted to cancel right then and there but I didn't. They called the day before to confirm my appt and again they stressed it will take 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. I was dreading this appt already. Their salesman came and was very nice and seemed knowledgable, then after he looked around at the existing unit and then we sat down to talk. Then he pulled out his book with pictures and started telling all the features and how it worked. He showed me a picture of their building as if I cared what that looked like. I thought he would never finish, It took so long I as trying to keep from falling asleep and didn't hear most of what he said after the first 5 min. After all that he gave me the price. I almost fell off my chair. Double of what some of the other companies quoted! I find it amusing when some of these companies stress that service calls are covered. Why should I have to worry about service calls on a brand new system? Why should a brand new system be breaking down anyway?

Very punctual, professional. Came in, gave me a card. Went to the basement and was able to plunge the clogged sink. Told me I should replace the sink and pipes, gave a huge estimate for that but only charged me 79.00 to plunge the sink. Expensive for that service but honest, trustworthy and great.
Description of Work: Clogged drain. Gave me a quote if 179.00 or estimate, I should say. I had a coupon for 99.00 that they agreed to honor.

There was one item no longer on the warrenty that the company wanted me to purchase. I declined; too expensive.

Went beyond my expectations. After snaking the drainage pipe, the drain was unclogged. But he was not satisfied with the rate of drainage, so he did addition snaking of the drainage pipes. Now it works better than I can remember.

I had AJ Perri to my home for their $89 Heating System checkup. At that time I asked for an estimate to purchase and install a whole house humidifier. The technician was on time, wore booties to protect my floors, completed the inspection and offered us 3 different humidifier models to choose from. We chose and scheduled the installation. The installation was completed a few days later - on time. This company calls about 20 minutes before the technician arrives to tell you he is on his way!! The installation went smoothly and neatly. The installer wore booties again, all work was completed in about a few hours and he completed cleaned up every little piece of wire or paper on the floor. I was very impressed. The system is working very well. We did notice a whistling noise from the system the next day. I called the company who immediately sent someone out to look at it, noticed a little bit of air escaping the system - which made the whistling noise. He fixed it quickly and at no charge. I would recommend AJ Perri.

Have a damaged house on Jersey shore. Water system on barrier island was beginning to be re-pressurized. After Sandy, we had had some leaking out of some of the faucets, as we didn't winterize home. Were afraid that re-pressurization would create a geyser in the already damaged house. Wanted to make sure all water was off to the home. Had a couple of valves replaced to make sure things were holding properly. Had coupon for service call discount. Person came on time. Polite, very nice. Said he gave me some price deals. Was it still a good price? I don't know. Was desperate, was holidays and I took first one who said they could get onto the island right away. Job was done within the estimated amount of time. Last time I was at the house I didn't see evidence of leaking water from pipes. Hopefully that's still the case.
Description of Work: Needed water shut off at damaged NJ shore house. Didn't call other vendors. Perri could come right away. Good price? Don't know.

Overview: I had a 2-part experience with AJP. It started w/ a service call for my dying furnace. It ended w/ an estimate for a new unit, that morphed into an long aggressive sales call. I was happy with the former. I was p*****-off with the latter. I will certainly consider other services because of the experience. Details: My furnace is old, badly installed and ready to go. I knew that before. One day my blower finally squeaked to a halt. I called AJP for help. They had a service tech out within hours. Fantastic! Service guy gave me a temp fix and said I should have it replaced ASAP. Agreed! And again: Fantastic! I didn't mind paying top dollar for <15 minutes of work. It was efficient and quality service. Because of that, I agreed to a new unit estimate. Later a guy arrived to provide that estimate. That's when my experience went south. I have small place and small furnace. I can?t imagine how measuring, a quick analysis, price look-up and, yeah, giving me the required elevator speech on how "we cost more, but we deliver more" should have taken more than 30-40 minutes. Instead, the guy decided to invest 3+ hours in "closing" my wife and me. Maybe we came across as very good candidates? One AJP reviewer caller their estimator: "akin to a life insurance agent or used car broker". I feel the same way after this experience. At first we bought into the estimators jaw boning. I would have gone with AJP the next morning had the estimator given me time to let it sink in. As another AJP review line said: "I was taken in by terrorists and developed Stockholm Syndrome (siding with my captors)." In hindsight, this is a very apt statement. Over and over again, we heard about their training, flat price, vans, installation workmanship, et all. Over and over again, we were told HVAC industry horror stories about non-AJP contracted work. But by the 3rd/4th iteration, we started having little doubts. If someone tells you over and over again how perfect their service is, you have to start to wonder: Why can't their work stand on its own merit? When he finally gave us numbers, we said we had to think about it. That's when he really got going! He pitched the special discount days. He started asking us about our personal finances with leading questions. That was a bit insulting. There were some mentions about how the Sandy aftermath might not make them available again so quickly or cheaply. This all started to smell funny to me. At one point we asked him to leave so we could discuss in private. He refused (nicely) to leave my home! Man, I half expected him to draw a 4 square on our coffee table. We finally were able to end it late at night (circa 11pm), drained and exhausted. The first thing I did was to go look up AJP on review sites. Glad I did. As part of his pitch, the estimator presented me with a typed document stating they were an Angie's List premium A+ service. Well, I joined Angie's List to verify. They do have some good reviews, but there are significant negative ones too. On another review site too. The reviews confirmed my hunch: AJP charges a high premium for installation. That's not wrong or illegal. I don't hold that against them. But the high prices, can explain why they push so extremely h****** their sales. And once we came to that conclusion, we saw everything this estimator did as a ploy to close a high margin sale. We even began to wonder if the original service guy had set us up for it. In summary: I'm not saying AJP provides a bad offering. We only had one small experience. But it netted out negative and totally blew our trust of them. If I had to guess: I'd say their service is on par, perhaps even better then others. Yet their sales efforts are so insanely-stubborn/persistently-aggressive/annoying unable to take a hint that it will now keep me from calling them back anytime soon. I just don't have enough reserves to want to associate w/ that in my already busy crazy life. Update 10/2013: AJP experience so traumatizing that I suffered without heating or cooling for 9 months; Got sick to my stomach thinking of another in house sales visit. Finally rectified situation with a recommended local competitor and very very very happy with the results. Carrier brand too and cost much lower than AJP quote. If your thinking about AJP I would recommend making a few more calls and tapping a few more friends/family for their suggestions.

We had our heating system tested and cleaned today. There was no charge for today's visit since we signed up for AJ Perris membership program this past summer. Ron showed up on time, was friendly and efficient. He did his diagnostic testing and determined our furnace was in pretty good shape in spite of its age...(14 years old.) GOOD NEWS! All in all, a pleasant experience...especially since it was a "no charge" visit and we gained piece of mind knowing our furnace was in good working order.

I searched Angie's List for a plumber & saw a great special on a drain cleaning for $99. I called AJ Perri's (Friday night) to see if this special included weekend calls (which it did) & then schedule for today (Saturday, Feb. 2 2013) They offered me same day service, but because we weren't going to be home, they were happy to schedule me for Sat. between 1:30 & 3:30. I liked that it wasn't too big of a window like cable companies. Two men came to the house just before 2pm & when I opened the door, he held his hand out to shake mine & introduced himself and his partner. They were both very polite & took care of the problem in less than an hour! They also gave us detailed information about how to keep the drain clear.
Description of Work: Thursday night I clogged my kitchen sink with pasta down the garbage disposal (which I already knew not to do, but I just wasn't thinking!) so badly that my husband couldn't snake it out.

Purchased a $29 Heating Service call but actually needed a maintenance call to go over my heater. AJ Perri honored my $29 purchase & deducted off the $89 maintenance bill (& added a small amount for a part they replaced). Confused about what "service" meant but they were very good about applying my purchase.

My overall conclusion is high grades on responsiveness and punctuality plus standing behind their warranty. Although the professionalism was generally good, it is tempered by the poor installation of the piping when the initial job was done. This also impacts my appraisal of the quality of the work. As far as price is concerned, Perri is expensive. I am undecided if I would use Perri again.
Description of Work: My Central A/C broke down on one of the hottest days in July. I called up another company first who wanted to price gouge me. Then I called AJ Perri who was responsive and priced a good deal for the initial consultation. They came out as promised and it was determined that I needed a new System. Since it was 24 years old, I knew that was a reasonable expectation. Unfortunately the earliest they could install it was two weeks later but given their obvious busy season and hot weather, I dont fault them for that. Given the urgency of the situation I accepted their sales pitch for the complete works including condenser and coils which was priced higher than I expected. In spite of my reservations on price (high list price lowered by many standard discounts), AJ Perri promised to do the job right backed by the best warranty on parts and labor. The job was completed two weeks later as promised and appeared done properly. In October on an especially cold day, my furnace pilot light went out and I noticed some oil residue was seeping in to the furnace area. I then called up Perri for a furnace inspection. It turned out that the condition of the furnace was fine but that the oily residue was coming from a new pipe installed by the Perri people when they connected tne new coil as part of the A/C installation. The technician who did the furnace inspection replaced the piping connection and did testing on the condenser since certain settings had to be recalibrated. He said he couldnt fully recailbrate the settings due to the cold weather. The next day the system immediately shut down when I turned on the A/C because the temperature outside was too cold even though inside the temperature was in the high 70's and oppressive. So the technician had to return and he did further recalibration which appears to have fixed the problem although he stated a further inspection must be done in 2013 when the weather outside becomes hot enough to test the system. All the additional testing of the A/C system was covered under the warranty which made the situation tolerable. My overall conclusion is high grades on responsiveness and punctuality plus standing behind their warranty. Both installs failed multiple inspections, including, but not limited to a gas leak due to a faulty fitting. Team working at my rental property was thoroughly unprofessional and kept commenting on how they would get even with their boss for making them work that day. Had to take extra time off from work for both repairs an reinspections at both properties (and needed to have emergency service for gas leak since the gas company locked out my gas). Perri customer service rep issued a $300 refund for the extra time I had to take off (which is far below the pay I would have received for working). My renter continues to have problems with the thermostat 1 year later and calls for repair regularly. Funny thing is, I hired them in part because they advertise as being a favorite of Angie's list customers. I guess that is not nearly enough to go by.
Description of Work: Installed a new furnace and hot water heater at my primary residence, and furnace, hwh, and AC at a rental property.

We did not use them. The company we hired did a great job for 1/2 the cost.
Description of Work: We called AJ Perri to give us an estimate to replace our old steam boiler. We had used them before for minor repairs and found them to be good. However the salesman who came to give us the estimate resorted to very high pressure sales tactics. The estimate we received was literally TWICE what we ended up paying with another company. Totally unacceptable! Outrageous! Also when they approved us for financing, that money was allocated for their use only! When we contracted with a different company, we had to call AJ Perri and ask them to release the funds! I'm sure they do a good job, but their prices and sales tactics are insane.
