They had to use a snake from the roof to unclog a pipe. They did a good job.
Description of Work: I hired them since I bought a Big Deal for drain cleaning for $89, but it ended up that my clog was larger than the parameters of the deal, so I refunded the deal and paid the contractor directly for the price for the larger job.

After almost three years of use, my AC system did not provide full satisfactory, as the temperature was uneven by more than 10°F between the top and bottom of my house -a split level- when the exterior temperature was above 80°F. After several attempts to tweak the settings over the period of three summer times and many twists and turns, the company finally made a big decision to remedy the problem to my complete satisfaction now. The reason why I wanted to write a review, is because of the tremendous amount of dedication, the team of technicians that worked for two days, put in completing the work. I could not have expected a better experience. A special thank to Hernan Agudelo who was the team leader at this time. I would like to emphasize that it it the mark of a Great company to even after three years make things right for a customer. This is why I would recommend AJ Perri, to potential customers, for their professionalism and liability.

My mother-in-law has a contract with them for service. They are quick, clean and on time. They do the job without any problems. They are really good. When our A/C broke, they were right there for us to see if they could get it going because we had company here. It was before Sandy. They put in a new one as soon as possible. We didn't price out anybody else. The quality was good. I went in the crawlspace and watched what they did when they replaced the unit and I asked questions. They were very professional.

Their technician, David Foran, arrived at the early end of the window they gave us (8am to 1pm), so kudos for punctuality. He got right to work, gave my wife an estimate of the cost immediately, and then took care of everything quickly and effectively. We hired them to take care of the maintenance on our heating and cooling systems because they had a decent reputation and good prices, and this visit was another example of that. Great service!
Description of Work: Maintenance on our heating system, in preparation for the winter. My wife was there for the appointment, and he explained exactly what he found (some condensation, a leak he fixed, and a furnace that was in decent working order and should last a few more years).

We just moved into a new home and the kitchen drain was clogged. If we turned on the water it just overflowed...if we turned on the water and garbage disposal in the adjacent sink, water would bubble up in the main sink, and vice versa. If we turned the dishwasher on, water would bubble up in the main sink. We were washing dishes in the bathroom! AJ Perri, Inc. was recommended to us by the person who did our home inspection...it was a really good recommendation! When we called the company, the support staff was polite and courteous...and we got an appointment for the next day (today). We were told someone would be there between 8 - 10am. TOM showed up at 8:30am and was both friendly and very competent. After carefully removing everything from under the sink and making sure there was a bucket positioned to catch whatever came out, TOM dismantled the pipe connections to release trapped water. Then he removed a large mass of hardened paint that had filled then pipes right where both sinks merged into one drainpipe. Once water was flowing freely from both sinks and the dishwasher (tested), TOM replaced everything back under the sink. We had several questions about our water system and he took the time to thoroughly answer them...explaining as he went along. As for the cost...we prepaid the service directly from Angie's List. The website listed $99 for a drain...and Angie's List listed $89 if booked from their website. We were VERY happy with the service we received.

Woke up to a mess with sewage backing up. Pump failed and called AJ Perri immediately. Service was prompt and courtesy and Rodney was neat, professional and took great care to not make a mess any messier. Give plumbers a lot of credit- don't know how you do it. AJ is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Initially it was a mistake I didn't know that the contractor's phone disconnected due to him being in the basement of someone else home when I called him back and that why we were disconnected. He did say he would come back but I didn't know what time that's why I tried to reach him back to get the time. He came right back and his professionalism was impeccable he explained everything and gave me a written proposal with all the details. I'm very pleased and happy to say that he earned my business.
Description of Work: I had to adjust my 1st review contractor was in basement of another customers home that's why call was disconnected. John did return to my home immediately after I spoke to the agent at angie's list he addressed all my concerns and now I am very happy with him and I will contract him to do my work of converting from oil heat to gas heat.

We ordered the $89 drain cleaning deal though Angie's List when our only bathtub in our new house was backing up. Scheduling the appointment was a bit circuitous with multiple phone calls back and forth, being put on hold to be transferred to different departments. Finally, we got scheduled for between 8:30am and 10:30am on Friday. Around 3pm on Thursday, they called me to say that one of their techs "called in sick" and they won't be able to make our appointment until 10:30am at the earliest (I don't know about you, but I don't usually call in sick 15+ hours in advance...). Fortunately my wife was off that day and it wasn't a big deal but I had already rearranged my schedule to accommodate them. The tech came and my wife showed him the problem. As soon as he saw that it was the original 1922 clawfoot tub, he informed my wife that there is a risk of breaking the old pipe when he snaked it. She understood the risk and agreed to let him proceed because we were tired of showering in ankle deep water. He snaked the line and as soon as he turned on the water to check, water began pouring out of our kitchen ceiling. The snake also flung dirt and gunk from the drain all over our bathroom and the tech didn't clean it up. To be fair, he did warn us that there was a risk of breaking the pipe but what happened next was really what got me. The tech stated that he's not a plumber, just a drain cleaner and he would call dispatch to get a plumber on site (fine...). He then told us that AJ Perri would charge $260 just to open the ceiling. Not to fix it, not repair the ceiling once they're complete, just to literally open the wall. He then decided to do us a favor and agreed to apply half of that to the plumbing repair if we let AJ Perri do the work. We opened the ceiling ourselves to get access and save us $260 and the plumber arrived shortly after. I'll use the term "plumber" loosely here - the company man was more of a salesman than anything else. He told my wife that it would cost $4000+ to fix the issue and if we were thinking of ever remodeling the bathroom, we should just do it now. My wife bought this story, hook, line and sinker and called me at work. As soon as I heard his prices, I flew home from work and told her to not agree to anything. As soon as I got home, I looked at the situation and asked the "plumber" where he's getting his prices from. He showed me their flat pricing book and the one item that stood out to me was the waste and overflow (drain) for the tub. They wanted $1300 for this work. Mind you this is a clawfoot tub and all the plumbing is exposed. I looked up the prices of the parts on homedepot.com and they ranged from $25-$125, depending on how fancy you want to get. I basically kicked the guy out and proceeded to get to work myself. After struggling with trying to remove the old pipe (I didn't have the proper saw) for about an hour, I called a local plumber who fixed everything for under $400. He recommended calling AJ Perri to have them resnake the drain now that they have access to it after the P-Trap. So I called AJP to have them resnake the drain (keeping in mind that their service is guaranteed for a year) and they told me it would be $99 to snake the drain. After putting up some resistance, they finally agreed that it would be covered on their guarantee so we set the appointment for Monday between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. The same drain cleaning tech showed up at 7:35pm and the first words out of his mouth were a sarcastic "I feel like I live here" to my wife. This was only his second time here and the only reason we called them back was because they broke the pipe! The tech then got his tools and got ready to snake the drain - no drop cloths, no shoe covers and the filthiest glove I have ever seen. Luckily we had some drop cloths and threw them down before he got started. He pulled the snake out of the box and proceed to then clean it from his previous job in our kitchen. What kind of professional plumber doesn't maintain his tools outside of a client's house? He then forgot that there would be water in the p-trap when he opened it so of course he dumped it all on our kitchen floor. The filthy snake hit the walls a few times and flung more crud everywhere (he did wipe up a little bit but we had to clean an entire wall after he left). He eventually snaked the drain and then struggled to reassemble the p-trap. After struggling for what seemed like 10 minutes, he finally got it figured out and was able to write up our invoice for no charge as it was covered under warranty. Long story short, they're unprofessional, broke our pipe (after they did warn us it was possible) and then tried to sell us a complete remodel of the bathroom ($4000+) rather than just fixing the issue ($400). I'll never use AJ Perri again and will tell friends and family to do the same. Update (8/5/14) - Yes, AJP did call me (twice, not "numerous" as they claim) and each time I did indeed hang up on them. Dealing with them has been nothing but a pain and quite honestly, I didn't want to waste any more of my time - I resigned to throwing $89 down the drain and learned a lesson. I did receive a letter stating that they are refunding the original $89 (+tax) for the drain cleaning via check which will be mailed at a later date. Kudos to the company for standing by their guarantee on their trucks ("Comfort today or you don't pay") even though their technicians state that it's "just a saying" and it doesn't count (the first technician did indeed say that to my wife when he broke the pipe while also getting her credit card information to charge another $99 because he didn't understand the pre-payment through angie's list - seems to be a recurring problem based on other reviews here). Whether they refund the $89 or not is a moot point - I will still look elsewhere for service and tell others to do so as well. Please note that I did correct some typos in the original review as well.

The HVAC market is flooded with characters who do not know their work. And we have to pay each HVAC company a fees for showing up whether they fixed the problem or not!!! I don't know about you, but I do not have money to throw away. For this reason I call AJ Perri each time now. Their prices are a little higher than some, but atleast I am dealing with a reputed company. I have used them about 6 times in the last 2 years and am very happy. Only thing I did not use them for is the purchase of a new furnace. Like all established firms in that space, the price is inflated. You can save 50% by shopping around. Thanks

Prepaid on a special deal through Angie's List to clear a clogged sink. Scheduling service was very easy through their service department and they acknowledged my prepayment for service. Plumber even arrived earlier than expected which was both a plus and a major minus! However, when the plumber arrived, he demanded payment up front before he would even look at the problem! As my daughter's babysitter was the only one home at the time because he arrived early, she paid the plumber a second time at a higher rate than the Angies List Deal price! Am highly disappointed with AJ Perri and now have to find a way to get my money back as I've paid approximately $200 for their $89 deal. Don't know if I'd recommend them based on their shoody business practices and the plumber being unaware I've prepaid for the service even though my drain is now clear.

The bathroom sink had always drained slowly. Once a month is used to back-up with would get fixed by a plunger or Drano etc. This time it was really bad and not amount of drano/snaking helped. We saw that AJ Perri had many A ratings on AngiesList and a deal - $89 for unclogging 1 drain. I bought it online and called them to schedule the service. They scheduled it for the same day. Kenny was on time. He knew his stuff and was in and out in 15 minutes - drain completely unclogged and draining like never before!! Fantastic job! Good quality and prompt. Couldn't ask for more.

When they got here, they had to go into our crawl space to access the drain and we were told they were not able to even begin the clean out because the stack running from the roof down was too structurally dangerous to work around and they told us the entire stack would have to be replaced before they could clean out the drain. The salesman made it sound like the house could go at any second so we decided to replace the whole stack for $9000. When our insurance adjuster came by to take a look at the work done, he was in shock by how much we were charged. He said we had been charged three times the amount of money that it should have cost to replace the stack. I got in contact with AJ Perri and they refused to provide a labor cost breakdown. I called back last week and spoke to a woman who said she would personally contact our insurance adjuster and she still has not contacted our adjuster. AJ Perri is only willing to offer a flat rate build pricing to our adjuster and he is not able to accept that and needs the labor cost breakdown to see why we were charged so much so we can actually have our insurance pay for this new stack. Our drain still hasn’t even been cleaned out since this new stack has been put in.
Description of Work: We had a backup in our sewer line that runs into the street and was slow running. We got in contact with AJ Perri Inc to have them come by to clean it out.

The installation was flawless! Our story begins with Hurricane Sandy. We had 12 inches of water in the house which has a three-foot crawlspace, so technically we got hit with four feet of filthy flood waters. We made the mistake of allowing the general contractor who handled the flood remediation to use an HVAC contractor of his choosing. What a disaster! On 12/5/2012, these clowns installed a 90% efficiency furnace in a crawlspace...a major league no-no. We had nothing but trouble with the unit ( a Gibson piece of junk) because of the installation. It failed to heat, the thermostat would blink like a strobe indicating system malfunction, and Mom (who is 90) and I froze. The condensate unit was placed in a plastic tray that was installed in a hole that was dug below the furnace...another big mistake! The furnace vent, as well as condensate line, were routed outside through a ventilation vent in the foundation...again against code. At one point, I had to pull up the hatch in the bedroom floor, get into the crawlspace, and cut the condensate line because it froze! At least 6 times, I also had to get into the crawlspace and jiggle the front panel of the furnace to make sure the fail-safe switch for the blower was depressed so the unit would work. Really? I'm 59 years old with arthritic knees! These bozos also ripped out all of the beautiful metal ductwork that was fabricated by a true professional, Mr. Dunn, in 1966. It was replaced with Flexduct that looked like it was installed by a drunk, improperly tied to the floor joists with dips and constrictions...another fiasco. The A-coil was installed in the dirt and had already begun to rust after just over one year. There were no fresh air plenums so the system was recycling crawlspace air...yuck. The AC compressor was installed at ground level. We are in a flood zone which requires it to be installed on a platform 4 feet above the ground...another big mistake. Did I mention we could not get these jerks out to service the system? The final blow came at the end of end of March when the heat just refused to go on. Again, I pulled up the hatch and this time found the condensate unit sitting in a foot of water. Both the heat and the AC were DOA. Why? Because the furnace had flooded...water from the condensate unit backed up into it and froze cracking something. Mom and I muddled along until the end of May. I called A.J. Perri for help....the weather was getting hot and we had no AC. Bobby Beaulieu, the service tech, who was dispatched to our service knew exactly what the problem was when he got into the crawlspace. HE WAS APPALLED BY WHAT HE FOUND. He managed to disconnect the condensate unit and get the AC operational just before the temps went into 90's. He called his office and arranged for a consultant to come out the next day to give us an estimate to replace everything. He was totally correct about the furnace being dead! He is such a nice guy..he knew we were upset and was very reassuring. He called his office to relay information about what he found and arranged for a consultant to give us an a estimate. Mike Bernstein, another nice guy, came out the following day to gave us the estimate. HE ALSO WAS APPALLED BY WHAT HE FOUND. We were stunned by the price. A good part of the price included undoing everything the original morons did. The proposed contract also includes 10 years of free twice-yearly maintenance. We contracted for the work and gave a deposit. The office called to set up an appointment for Mike B. and Ron, an installation manager (very personable and knowledgeable) ( HE WAS APPALLED BY WHAT HE FOUND) to come out to the house to plan the job and make sure nothing was missed on the initial estimate. They spent over two hours mapping out the job! The work was scheduled to start on Monday at 8:00AM. These guys do not mess around! Like clockwork, on Monday morning, the crews were parked outside the house at 7:30 AM waiting for the supervisor to show up and explain the job further. This was a three-day job. It was flawless. There were different crews for different aspects of the job...carpenters, plumbers, electricians. ..the nicest guys we've ever met and we've had lots of work done on the house over the years. Rai and Travis, the installers who worked under the house were meticulous in their work! THEY WERE APPALLED BY WHAT THEY FOUND. They were absolute terrific with my 11-year old great-nephew who was like a third supervisor...lol. Rai sings and rather well, too! Really great guys! When the just over one year-old furnace was dragged from under the house, it was full of filthy black water and was cracked, just as we were told it would be. The guys installed UV light to inhibit the growth of mold. The layout of the original ductwork, that was was pulled out needlessly by the first morons, was perfect according to Ron, Rai, and Travis. The chimney needs to be relocated to the back of the house before we turn on the heat. They could not install the chimney due to asbestos shingles on the house. We will be removing the asbestos shingles and installing HardiShingle siding soon. A.J. Perri's installation manager will coordinate with our siding contractor to finish the job. The crews cleaned up after themselves meticulously. The only items remaining in boxes in the breezeway are what will be needed for the chimney. Five stars all around to everyone involved! Mom and I are comfortable and, more importantly, know we will not be left in a lurch if anything goes awry. Was the job expensive? Yes. And no. We have peace of mind and that is priceless!

The person on the phone was very nice, she told me there would be a $47.00 deposit that would apply toward the work. I really needed work done so I got my estimate and the total cost would've been $3000.00. I need a new sink and I was told over the phone that they'd have books and would be able to help me pick out a sink. The man giving my estimate told me that he knew what was going on but the woman on the phone in their office didn't. I'm 67 years old with a bad back but I was able to fix a problem with my toilet by tightening a nut, they told me it would cost $400.00 to fix this toilet. I feel like an idiot for giving them a deposit, because they were so dishonest I really would like my money back from them. They even charge me $50.00 for the deposit even though over the phone I was told $47.00.

We had an AJ Perri "service man" come out to "tune up" our AC unit. Instead he took a perfectly fine AC unit and broke it. Telling us that the actuators were old and needed to be replaced. The so called "repair man" showed up at 2pm and tried to hard sell us on a new AC system, a new heater, and new water boiler. To the point that he told us the old water boiler could fuse shut and shoot 200 feet in the air, through both levels of the house, and onto our neighbors roof. After his hard selling tactics we leave the nice cold house (cold being the key word here) to go outside into the 90 degree heat. The "repairman" checked our system and said we needed to replace certain parts cause they were getting older and it would make the system run better. I told him if it's gonna make the system run better then do it. He said oh definitely. So he cleans the system replaces the actuators and we go to turn the system back on and BOOM, the fuse blows. He said oh I must have hooked something up wrong he messed around with wires in the system again for another hour. We go to throw the switch again and BOOM, the fuse blows again. The "repairman" was at my house from 2pm until 11pm. I still don't have a working AC unit and their solution to the problem is selling me another AC system for $7,000, not repairing or replacing what they broke, when mine worked fine to begin with. I talked to the arrogant manager and he used analogies like, if your friend came to your house, and went to turn on a light, and it didn't work would you say to him, well the light worked before you got here so it's your fault and you need to replace it? I said to him, if my friend took apart my light that was working perfectly fine, replaced parts in it and then it didn't work, yes, I would say it's his fault. To conclude this company is a scam and rip off people. I got a quote from another company selling the same equipment for $4,000. Save yourself time, money, and aggravation USE ANYONE ELSE!!!

I did not trust the overly slick presentation. When a sales person tells me I "must" have extra work done that 3 other reputable vendors assured me was not required, and attempts to convince me that their 50% higher price is because they are so much better than everyone else, it sends up red flags. They can look as professional as they want to, and put on little booties to protect my floors, but add to that that the number of complaints with BBB, and reported on Angies list, and I would never do business with AJ Perri. How can they be rated A+ by the BBB with so many complaints?
