We do it for the year. We pay $89 for a unit, per year. They do the heating service in October and they do the air conditioning service in April. All their Techs are extremely knowledgeable. They know what they're talking about.

We knew that the boiler was giving out because it was a 17 year old boiler. So we had set up an appointment for somebody to come in and talk to us and give us a price and then we went ahead and installed it in October. We were on a 3-year payment plan with Wells Fargo and I think it cost me somewhere around $13000. The job was perfect, but I do think I could have shopped around for a better price.
Description of Work: They performed a furnace tune-up. Our furnace was really old, so we ended up going with them for the replacement as well.

I got a flyer in the mail for AC service, made a reservation online. Got a callback only to find out that they don't service my area (Essex county). Why did they send me a mailer then? Why did they start their phone call with "Are you ready for great service today?" if they couldn't deliver it. Lousy experience.

We had NJ Natural Gas Co out here because we smelled gas in one room, and they identified a leak & turned our gas service off. We called several companies who provide the service we needed and only AJ Perri responded. We decided to use them because of their excellent rating on the Better Business Bureau website. Rodney Poland was supposed to come between 3&5 same day we called. He called and said he could be here about 3 hours earlier! He was neat, clean, professional and courteous. We have no experience with this or any other HVAC company as we have only had natural gas for a few years. He checked out the problem, gave us a quote and then did the work right away and was done within 2 hours. He turned our gas back on when he was done. He did not try to talk us into any other service and said our installation was done well and since it was fairly new it was in good shape except for one pipe where the gas first enters the house had a minor leak at the joint. We were very please with the service provided and the very prompt response to our call on a Saturday. The entire process was completely hassle free. We don't know if the price was reasonable because we were not able to get any other quotes for the job.

After a year with AJ Perri I see a pattern which is to maximize the number of billable visits. We called for a simple problem a month ago (that's when I saw the filter) - not the least bit urgent - we just basically had a question. They could have treated that visit as the annual maintenance visit and done the inspection/change filter, but they treated it as a repair visit ($120) when the guy was in and out in less than 5 minutes. So then we call for a maintenance visit and the guy finds problems, but doesn't change the filter. As new homeowners last summer I called them to change the filter (which is a fussy difficult one - probably why they don't want to fiddle with it - and we can't do it ourselves). On three separate calls with the AJ Perri office that day I emphasized "look up what our filter is and make sure the technician brings a filter" Of course when he arrived, the office hadn't told him anything about the filter. He was nice enough to drive back to the office, get a filter and return to install it. But the office is just sending out their technicians without actually trying to service the customer. Note that the technicians themselves are all nice guys who seem to know what they are doing. Lastly, every time we have a visit from them their market survey/customer satisfaction survey people are all over me for a 10 minute telephone survey. I don't then they are getting what the problem is. The issue is not with the technicians, the issue is they way they manage their business.
Description of Work: AJ Perri was supposed to perform annual maintenance under our annual heating contract, but technician did not replace the filter, telling my husband it is fine. However, the filter should be replaced at least once a year and I saw it a month ago and it was half filled with dirt at that time, so I know it should have been replaced. More - the technician found other things that were wrong which cost $190 extra. I'm not saying that the repair shouldn't have been done, what I am saying is that the annual maintenance visit should include changing the filter.

I cannot be more satisfied with the service I received from AJ Perri. I had a clogged double sink that I tried plunging and snaking and it would not unclog. I called AJ Perri and they gave me an appointment for later that same day. Even better was that they called me saying they could be at my house 3 hours earlier than my appointment time if I was available which was awesome!! The plumber showed up right on time and unclogged the sink. He also found the pinhole that was causing a leak- we've been trying to figure out where the leak was comming from for the longest time! He replaced that pipe and cleaned up everything. I was very satisfied with the professionalism and the quick response time.

The company said they would have someone here between 2 and 4 pm. The service person showed up about 45 minutes late due to problems on a previous job. I explained the problem and he told me to turn the house water off which I did. After hemming and hawing a little he provided two estimates one for over $1,000.00 and one for over $500.00. I told him it was probably a washer that needed to be replaced or at the very most a valve stem. He told me I was probably right but that he was not allowed to attempt that repair (company policy). I said thank you but we were not interested in his service. He then explained that we still owed the $47.50 service call which again is company policy. I felt that was excessive for trying to rip us off but paid it. I went to the plumbing supply store the next day and purchased two stems and a stem removal wrench for a total cost of $36.00 and about an hour of my time. Needless to say I will not use this company again.
Description of Work: Called provider to fix leaky shower faucet. We had used the provider to do a safety inspection and filter replacement on our furnace a few weeks earlier. They did provide that service but also sold additional coverage that provides coverage for heating c/c and plumbing. Double the price of the come-on service call but seemed like a good idea. We decided to take advantage of the service to fix a leaky shower faucet.

We called AJ Perri to replace our kitchen faucet. When the plumber arrived we were quoted the astronomical price of $420.00 on top of there fee to show up of $48.00. We turned them away based on the attempt to price gouge. This was also my 1st use of Angie's list, I won't be using it again to find a service any time soon.
Description of Work: We contracted them to change a kitchen faucet when the Plumber arrived he quoted a ridiculous rate of $450.00.

They removed the old furnace and installed the new one. They then installed the ac unit and put the compressor outside. The whole job was great. Brought a new thermostat and taught me how to use it.

The sewer clog was not cleared by AJ Perri. The person who came with the camera the next morning told me we had a collapse in the pipe, and that we would have to pay $15,000 to have it fixed by digging up the street, hiring police to close street, replace sewer pipe and repave road, plus permits and other city fees. I called another service and he was able to clear the clog and the camera showed no collapse. Since this happened I've heard other tales of AJ Perri ripping people off. I paid $700 instead of $15,000. This was a stressful experience based on incompetence or a deliberate scam.
Description of Work: Snaked clogged sewer. Not able to clear clog, so we were not able to use water (flush toilet, wash dishes, etc.) Sent person with camera to check sewer pipe the next morning and claimed the sewer pipe had a collapse.

Got call that workman on his way and he arrived right on schedule. Marcius was very polite, showing his photo card prior to entering and was very considerate, putting on shoe covers prior to entering. Shower finished quickly but laundry/kitchen drain proved more complicated than anticipated due to detergent (not grease or lint) buildup. When finished he cleaned up both areas very well.

Two service men arrived at the scheduled time. They looked at the leak and brought in an electric snake. They opened the lines and ran the snake into it. This took about twenty minutes. I asked if they were finding any problems and one service tech said yes, there were several rough spots. They removed the cable. It had roots in the end. They reinstalled the cable and ran it another ten minutes. When they removed it the cable end was clean and somewhat shiny. They said "we have run the snake all the way to the sewer main. This shiny snake cutter means the pipe is broken and there is sand filling it. There is nothing else we can do. We will send out another service person with a camera to scope the line at no charge." A second appointment was made for 4:00 the same day. They then proceeded to review the existing sump pump well for first time installation of a pump. They quoted a price for the sump pump that was five times higher than any pump listed on line plus $199 to install. When I asked for a labor only price, they tripled the cost of the labor. They looked at the cast iron plumbing under the toilet and told me I could not repair the flange and would have to cut out the pipe at a cost of about $1,000. They then quoted a price for a garbage disposal that was also multiple times higher than market prices. The second service person arrived just after the appointed time. He looked at the water seeping from the cleanout valve and said that scoping would be a waste of time. He indicated that the entire line had to be replaced. I asked why he was there then and he said it was to give me a quotation. He proceeded to tell me that his was an emergency situation, that his folks were professionals and the only option was to replace the entire line. He must have used the word professional ten times and "emergency" at least fifteen times. This is not an exaggeration! He then proceeded to give me the company spiel even though I asked him several time just to give me the quote. According to his presentation, if I went with anyone else, my yard would be destroyed and people might get killed by collapsing ditches, he then quoted a price of $14,000tp do the job. He stated that he was only charging me for 75 feet of pipe even though it was 100 to the sewer. When I said that it was too expensive, he offered first a 5% then a 10% senior discount. When I declined, he increased it to 20% because he "had staff that we're currently under utilized". He then told me this price was only good while he was at the house. I declined. He did not provide me with a written quite. After talking to several other professional plumbers, I determined that the shiny end on the snake cable meant nothing. I was also told that there was no need to cut the toilet pipe in order to repair the flange. I was also told that some companies flip the labor and equipment price so they don't have to bargain on labor charges. The township sewer admin sent two people two days later who snaked the line and cleared it in about 20 minutes. The line was blocked at the reducer into the sewer.There were no problems with the pipe at all. This experience was incredibly traumatic for me. I don't know if the employees were following company policy or not but they did not do the job I hired them for and their actions appear to me to have been misleading and less than fully honest. I contacted A J Perri and asked for a refund. They transferred me to a quality control manager who indicated that she would refund my money but that it would take 3-4 weeks to cut a check from their corporate offices in Tennessee. I am currently waiting for the refund.
Description of Work: A J Perri was hired to snake out a blocked sewer line. I had water seeping out of a cleanout plug in my basement. I also asked for quotes for replacing a broken toilet flange, installing a sump pump and installing a garbage disposal.

Plumber from AJ Perri came out to look and correctly identified the culprit being a faulty check valve. Due to the number of issues we have had with the pump, they suggested that the problem would only be truly solved with a larger pump and pit. They opted not to fix the current situation until a quote could be obtained for the larger setup later that day. The call that day never came, but dismissed it as the plumbing supply was likely closed. Waited until noon the next day with still no call. Called AJ Perri to inquire about the status and was informed that the manager, Sal, would give me a call later that day. The call never came. Meanwhile, I was left without adequate plumbing as my entire home utilizes this pump to pump waste to the city sewer. After two days of waiting for a simple callback, I had to go with another plumber to fix the current situation with a new check valve that the original plumber from AJ Perri identified as a possible culprit on day one. The kicker is that the plumber from AJ Perri had a new check valve in hand while at my house and could have resolved the issue (which was warranty work by the way). Not blaming the plumber from AJ Perri at all, he identified the issue and would have fixed it but was guided away this by his management. As for the management's actions, I realize that I probably am pushing the envelope with my current pump and pit size however, it is completely unacceptable to be left effectively stranded without so much as a courtesy call to inform me that it would take longer or that they would not be able to address my situation. I will simply never do business with AJ Perri again after spending thousands (Sewage pumps, new HVAC, etc.). I will also advise everyone that I know to look elsewhere.

About mid-Sept. 2015 I received a flyer announcing that Gilson (which had installed our central AC and had been servicing and maintaining it) is now A.J. Perri and offering a pre-season furnace tune-up special. I called and set up an appointment. The technician arrived on Sept. 22nd at the time scheduled, inspected the boiler, and gave me an option sheet listing seven items he recommended to bring the boiler up to present standards. The boiler is over 30 years old (probably close to 50). I had told the technician that I had concerns regarding a frequent loud booming noise usually shortly after the burners kicked on and which often was accompanied with the expulsion of water from the relief pipe. A plumber I had check on the cause of the noise, etc., in the past told me it could be caused by a build-up of dirt and sediment in the boiler and/or water pipes. I also mentioned to the technician that I had concerns with the connection between the circulator pump and the boiler. He did not say was needed to end the noise problem other than to say I needed to have the items on the option list installed, most of which appear to be items required under present regulations for new installations. As the total cost of the items on the option list came to around $3500 I said I wanted to think it over and asked to get an estimate to replace the boiler. An appointment was set of Sept. 24th. Meanwhile I studied the option list and checked on the cost of some of the items. While the prices on the list included installation costs I found that either the items were priced way above market prices and/or A.J. Perri's labor charges were exceedingly high as if each item installed required a separate trip along with shut down, clean-up etc. I would have expected to also be offered a package price if I chose to have all items installed or even the most urgent ones. The sales technician arrived when scheduled, checked the location, the boiler and the needed size and provided a guote. The quote gave a price for a Sept. installation, a price for Oct. and a third for a Nov. installation along with a flyer showing the manufacturer and the boiler series but not the specific model. He also provided a guarantee certificate with some handwritten notes on the certificate and some discounts. He showed me a net price for Sept. installation. I told him that it was far higher than a quote I had received from another company. He then said he would call the office and see if he could give a lower price. He came back with a lower price if I agreed to have the installation done on Monday the 28th of Sept. I told him the price was still very high and I wanted to think it over. He told me I had to agree to the price when he was there or it was off the table. I told him I could not accept that and he left without leaving the final quote with me. I called the office and explained to the person who took my call what happened and said that I do not do business with a company that says "sign now or the deal is off". She told me she would look into the matter and get back to me. She did so promptly and said the sales technician would be back on Monday and provide a proper quote. He did not return. Both the quotes on the repairs/upgrades and on the replacement of the boiler appear above market prices. The replacement quote was more than 20% above the higher of the other two quotes I had received. Given the high prices on both quotes and what I consider non-professional sales action I have cancelled a maintenance agreement with A.J. Perri. The cancellation of the agreement was handled politely and professionally by the person who handled this.
Description of Work: Inspected boiler and provided an options list of items needed to bring boiler up to present standards along with a price quote including installation of the repair/upgrade items on the options list. Provided an estimate for the replacement of the boiler.
