Description of Work: This was a very bad mistake. AJ Perry is a price gouger. During the recent storm, Sandy, we had lost power for 10 or 11 days. When power was restored, an electrical power surge blew out the water heater's elements. After checking with Angie's List, I gave AJ Perry a call. After explaining to me that there would be an $89.00 fee that would later be applied to the bill for fixing the problem. I, should have known better, but I agreed, and they said that they would send a plumber in about an hour or so. The problem was the person they sent was not a plumber, but something called a "technician". The "technician" examined the situation and said that the elements were burned out and replacing them would not be wise considering the age of the heater. So I asked him for a an estimate. He informed me that that could only be done by a plumber. Since by now it was late in the day, he said a plumber would be dispatched the next day. The following day, two plumbers showed up and looked ate the problem, an confirmed that my heater should be replaced. They would be happy to install a new one for the eye-popping price of nearly $1,800.00. Further calls to plumbers, not listed on Angie's, produced estimates of about $850.00. I eventually found a neighbor near me who is a licensed plumber (he works for a municipality and does work on the side) who replaced the elements for $200.00. So I ate AJ Perry's call charge, but still managed to come out ahead. BEWARE!

We do assure you that our technicians are tested, trained and certified and would not recommend anything for anyone’s home that they did not find necessary for their comfort of safety… in the case of your quote it also included the request to convert from electric to gas including the running of a gas line all adding to the end cost. We regret that our pricing did not meet with your expectations. Ongoing nightmare!
Description of Work: I selected Gilson because of their reviews, and THEY have been wonderful, fabulous, etc. My disappointment was in unrealistic expectations on MY part. Reading the Gilson Ad, I made the assumption that they took care of everything related to oil to gas heat conversion. NOT so! I was given a business card by Gilson recommending a firm that removes in ground oil tanks. My relationship with that tank removal firm has been a separate contract and fees - something I could have done on my own. Also, getting gas service to my home via PSE&G has been a nightmare. Again, a process I could have done on my own. Major confusion has been WHO gets the permits to run gas line and meter to my home? So far no one has. PSEG is charging me $25 for permit processing. Chester township is charging me $300 to do the furnance conversion. I am now entering my seventh week trying to get this straightened out and have had to resort to filing a complaint with the NJ Utility Commission. I have also had to buy space heaters. New furnace going in tomorrow, no gas line to connect it to. I have elected to go ahead with the new furnace installation -I just want to get rid of the in ground oil tank - I do not want to add more oil to it, only to have to pay to have the oil removed. I started this process the first week in September, it is now October 21 and nothing is done. About all Gilson has done is sell me a furnace and pull the permits for a new furnace installation. Something I had misinterpreted when reading their ad which led me to believe they handled the entire conversion process. I recommend that their ad be revised to say they will recommend the process, but you do all the "work". I.e. additional contacts, contracts, fees and permits.

Description of Work: I called them for an estimate on a new single handle shower faucet, replacing the tub drain, replacing the outdoor hose bibb, and replacing some leaking old iron pipe in the basement. A plumber and helper came on time when promised and looked over the proposed jobs. They went to the truck and prepared the estimate, and also showed me the shower faucet they would install. They listed the "standard rate" ($5766) , then gave me the "service partner rate" ($5190) then took an additional %10 off that for a net of $4,651. They charged $53.50 on my credit card as the charge for coming for the estimate (which would be applied to the job if I had it done). I had researched the items I wanted on the internet and their list prices (not wholesale which a plumber would pay) came to around $550. Which left over $4000 for labor and overhead and... TV ADS ("I love those guys"). I called a local plumber to get a second estimate, and for the exact same items his estimate was $1850. As a courtesy, I called AJ Perri to let them know I wasn't going to have them do the job and why. They had a rep call me back later and she did offer to return my $53.50 estimate charge. Very pleasant, very professional, but VERY expensive. Update: as of Feb 2013 they have not credited my charge card with a refund of the estimate charge

Description of Work: I called in an emergency; my entire system was backed up causing flooding. The tech arrived an tried to locate the service trap; he was successful with finding 1 but not the house trap. As just newly moved into this home few wks ago; we didn't realize why 1 of our tiles was missing. He asked us what was that but we didn't know it was the "house trap" so we told him we didn't know/ not sure and then proceeded to give us an estimate to demolish my finished basement to find the house trap to snake the main sewer line. I'm willing to take responsibility of not knowing but if your an experienced plumber and see and oblivious hole in the floor, what else could it be (especially since you guesstimated the possible location) needless to say I had plan B and they located the trap and I saved a few thousand $$!

Description of Work: My AC stopped working . The AJ Perry tech came in 1 hour and 15 after they called to tell me that He is 'On the Way'. He came unprepared without proper light or the necessary equipment to properly SEE what is the problem, nevertheless he determined that my unit is "BUSTED" told me that my AC has lost all the coolant and oil and that it would cost me to refill it and close the hole "ABOUT" 2 K . He promptly determined that I would be "FOOL" to waist that money and get a new AC unit . Being that it was already 10 PM I said OK , lets do it. A big mistake !! Wasted 2 hours of my day . The simplest way to explain it is 1970 Jawboning sales pinch - trust me or else! The whole sales pitch is about trusting their WORD , which by the way is as good as their stay in your house and once they exit the house all discounts are voided . Nothing is written nor clear . I had asked why don't they post this data on the net and the answer was - "You would not understand it " yet I'll be paying for it!!!! My sincere and honest and advice to all - stay away !

Not so Good Huh?????
Description of Work: This is a follow up to my initial report. City Inspectors came for the FINAL INSPECTION and guess what ..... Yup FAILED not on one issue but two. Two from professionals! First they didn't use conduit leading to the electric power box on furnace and the second when they replaced the flue pipe they didn't use double wall pipe(too close to wood beams). Can any one say fire hazard? Now I realize that some installations do not need this type of pipe, however for professionally trained technicans you would think that they would be able to make the right installation. So take another day off from work so they can correct the work that should have been done first time, then lose another day's pay for a re-inspection that's 2 days lost pay. Promised by Service manager/director that we would recieve some type of compensation. To Date nothing no phone call no apology nothing! Oh and once again the drivers back over out rock garden wall requiring it to be rebuilt a second time. And if you read my first report you know those " Booties" they make such a fuss about well guess what ..... nobody wore them this time either! Is it me????????

Description of Work: We called Perri because they advertise a lot in the Trenton area. We had a clog in our kitchen sink. First, they were not sure if they could do work in Bucks County PA, but then they said it was OK. The plumber arrived on time, and was friendly. But, he could not unclog the pipe. Then he told me I must have a vent problem. Then he told me is was probably something more serious (maybe even a new sewer line), but that he was not licenced in PA and they would have to have their sister company they work in PA with contact me. No one else ever called. I called another plumber and they uncloged the drain in 20 minutes. They never charged me, but clearly could not unclog a drain pipe.

Description of Work: Just as we were thinking how lucky we were to make it through Hurricane Irene without losing power the air conditioning quit. Not only was I surprised and impressed that A. J. Perri answered their phone on a Sunday afternoon of a hurricane, but sent a service person out to my home within a couple of hours! This was only the beginning of their excellent service. My air conditioner needed a very expensive part to repair it, so my husband and I decided since it has been with the house, along with the furnace, at least 25 years before we moved into our home in 2007, we would replace both our air conditioning unit and our furnace. Monday we met with a fantastic consultant who went over everything, large and small in language we could understand. When we decided to install the new units we were told that someone could come on Tuesday morning at 7:30AM to do the installation. First thing Tuesday morning an A. J. Perri service person dropped off all the new parts and equipment needed for the installation. About an hour later three service people showed up and completed the total installation in approximately three hours. Each employee introduced themselves, wore shoe covers and put down drop cloths. They were all very professional, friendly and made sure they cleaned up every speck they might have dropped. I can't say enough good things about A. J. Perri and their employees. Everyone we spoke to from the first contact Sunday on the phone to the last contact Tuesday was wonderful! I felt the price was reasonable for what we received in parts, labor, service and a 10 year, full parts and labor warranty! The supervising service person even called that evening to tell us to check the sink in our powder room because he fixed the faucet! I highly recommend A. J. Perri to everyone. They are the BEST!

Description of Work: I called AJ Perri for emergency service ...my hot water heater started pouring water all over the floor! It took over 2 hours for someone to arrive. He said my hot water "blew" and I needed a new one as quickly as possible. I said O.K. and he began what was to become an 8 hour hot water install. I was home alone with small children...I had no idea how long this job should take.Needless to say, I was shocked when handed a bill for over 2-thousand dollars!!I agreed to the extended warranty, guy told me if any emergency should occur, I would be covered for EVERYTHING!!.................Just over a year after paying Highway robbery prices. my hot water once again "blew" .I called AJ Perri since I knew I was covered buy the service package I had paid for.I was beyond outraged to find out that I was entitled to a new hot water heater, BUT I had to pay 160$ an hour for labor. It should take 3 or 4 hours to install, the guy said to me. What!!!! What about my contract, What about the 2 Thousand + dollars I just paid last year!!! Just leave,I told the plumber.....He said I could pick up a new hot water heater at the plumbing supply house, just bring them the old one.So I called the plumbing supply house, they told me to just bring in the tag off the old H.W.Heater, no problem,I got a new one. COVERED by the MANUFACTORS WARRANTY!!! So what did I pay AJ Perri for!!!! I have NO IDEA!!! I had a neighborhood plumber install the new Heater, it took him an hour and he charged me 50 bucks.......In my opinon AJ Perri sucks!!!!!

Description of Work: I replaced heating and central air conditioning in my home in 2005. They arrived at my home on the day that they indicated and left the house neat. I have a contract with them to maintain the heating and air conditioning; the workers are very professional and always arrive on the scheduled date and time. The workers do not enter your home until they cover their work boots. I have not had any problems with the heating or air conditioning unit. Gilson & Son also performed electrical work in my home. They explain what needs to be done and always provide an estimate of the cost. Again, the workers are professional and leave the house clean and neat. You do not have a mess to clean after the workers leave your home. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reputable and responsible company. The prices are competitive.
