Description of Work: Our toilet got backed up and was leaking into the kitchen light fixture. We called BZ Plumbing and they came promptly the next morning. Daniel put on footies, as to not track in any dirt onto my carpet (much appreciated) and told us that it might require that we cut into the kitchen ceiling, but recommended that we snake the toilet first, as a less-costly solution. He snaked the toilet, but nothing came up, so he recommended removing it all together and snaking the drain itself. That solved the problem. No sawing into my ceiling needed. Have used BZ on another occasion and Daniel has always been knowledgeable, friendly, punctual and professional.

Didnt use them
Description of Work: I called with a very specific problem and wanted an idea of what it would cost. They are 5 blocks from my location. They would not come unless I paid a $69 fee just to look. All I wanted was an idea before I made an appt. I will not pay $69 to have nothing done. I understand if they need to charge a small fee to look but I am only a few blocks away and they would not talk to me on the phone.

Response from BZ Dependable Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
We're sorry you had a negative experience and feel the way you do in regards to our company policy. Our policy does not allow the dispatcher to provide pricing over the phone. All pricing is provided by a qualified technician on-site. A $69 trip charge is required to send a technician to a customer's home regardless of distance. The trip charge is there to offset the labor cost we incur when sending technicians to customers homes.

I have used BZ Dependable Plumbing for years and this is my first time I am writing a review. I had a washer/dryer installed in my 2nd floor kitchen because I was renting my lower apartment and it needed to be removed before the tenant moved in. I called and and they fit me into their schedule rather quickly due to my time frame. What I really appreciated was that they gave me a 2 hour window for my appointment. Other service companies I've called made me wait almost all day for service, and some of them never showed up...They did exactly what I requested and explained everything in detail and tested my appliances. They were very clean and respectful to my house even wearing shoe covers on there feet when they walked on my carpets. I have had other service companies in my home and felt like a number, not a customer. I am very happy with all the work that was completed, even the boiler and water heater that was installed by them last year. I have recommended them to my friends and they had very good things to say about them. I got exactly what I paid for and the service was good.

Response from BZ Dependable Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
The first thing I want to say is, BZ Dependable does not advertise Emergency 24/7 Service on our profile or website. A call from a person named something else, not the member's name, was placed to our answering service on SATURDAY night at 9:45pm and again at 10pm, according to the answering service fax transmission. Our technician did not receive the messages until the next day and a call was placed to the caller on Sunday and a message was left for her on the voicemail. Her call was received after hours and was returned the next day. Perhaps the caller/member did not read our profile where it clearly states our business hours and nowhere does it indicate 24/7 Emergency Service. For someone to post a comment claiming a company is "UNPROFESSIONAL", as she put it, and give a grade of “F”, is completely unwarranted and unjustified, especially when they did not speak to any employees or have any service performed. What makes this more disappointing is that our company prides itself on customer service and quality performance, and this turned out to be a situation where we were not able to demonstrate that to this member. Is it very important that Angie's List members be mindful of the posts that they place, especially negative ones. Service providers pay a significant amount of money to advertise their businesses on this site and depend on the reviews and grades we receive from Angie's List members. Unwarranted postings affect the overall grade and cannot be removed from the site. I agree that the internet is an excellent tool to share information and opinions. However, I believe that all users have a certain amount of responsibility and must exercise restraint and good judgment when posting information against others.

They came out quickly and then spent 3 hours snaking the drain! BZ Dependable charged us over $500 for the work done. A bit expensive but we were in a bind. When the plumber left he told us that he had fixed the problem and that they offered a 2 month warranty. He also said that if the problem came back again, they would run a camera in the pipes to determine the problem. Guess what? The pipe clogged again the FIRST TIME the toilet was used. We immediately called BZ Dependable again. After all, they offered a warranty, right? BZ Dependable would not honor their warranty because and quot;they had already fixed the problem onceand quot;!?! Apparently they have a very different definition of the word warranty. They offered to come out again and run the camera through the line to determine the source of the clog. Oh and by the way, running the camera involved a $500+ charge for snaking the drain PLUS another $500 for the camera. So, if BZ Dependable came out again, it would cost me well over $1,000! And, no guarantee that they would solve the problem. We called another plumber who snaked the line in less than 1 hour for a fraction of the cost. And we’ve had no problems since. Bottom Line: depend on BZ Dependable for shoddy work, depend on BZ Dependable to be overpriced, depend on BZ Dependable to be dishonest

Response from BZ Dependable Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
First off, we want to say that we are very sorry that the member feels this way because we pride ourselves on outstanding customer service and customer satisfaction. He requested service because water was backing up into his shower stall. The serviceman went to the home, removed the toilet, and snaked the sewer line directly from the waste pipe. The homeowner told the serviceman that he has had this problem for quite some time and even attempted to snake it himself prior to calling for service. He said he removed feminine hygiene products from the toilet waste line and was unable to resolve the problem himself. The homeowner also indicated that a portion of this sewer line had been replaced by another company a few years earlier and has had an ongoing problem with backups ever since. Our serviceman cleared the line, ran all water, and tested the line. Everything checked out OK and charged $395 for the snaking and $125 to pull and reset the toilet. The homeowner was told by the serviceman that if the problem persists the next course of action would be to send a video camera down the line to determine where the actual problem is and determine the necessary repairs. The homeowner called us 3 days later to tell us the water is backing up into the shower stall again. Our company advised him that the next step is the camera the line because there is obviously something causing an obstruction. The homeowner was adamant that he did not wish to have that service performed. In this instance, our 60-day warranty, only applies to our labor. This means that the line was cleared at the time of service and the toilet was replaced and is free of leaks. Whenever our company provides service where there is a pre-existing problem that has been neglected and/or the customer refuses to perform the necessary repairs to correct the problem, or misuse of the waste line by disposing foreign objects, as was the case earlier, we can not be held accountable for the continuous repairs of the service at additional no charge. The owner of the company spoke to the homeowner 5 days later after he called again. It was explained to him again, what was required, and offered discounted pricing for the service because the homeowner said it was not within his budget to have the video inspection. We offered him a discounted rate of $225 (a savings of $295) to remove the toilet, snake the line, and the standard rate of $550 for the video inspection, for a total of $775, not "well over $1000", as was indicated by the member. The member stated in him comments that he hired a plumber that cleared the line in 1 hour and charged significantly less. This may be true since our company worked diligently for 3 hours to clear the line free of obstruction and already resolved a portion of the problem, however the underlying issue still exists and will most likely create problems for him again in the near future. In conclusion, I do not feel it was fair of the member to write such a comment without providing all of the facts. The use of the words "Shoddy", "Overpriced", and "Dishonest" were used without merit and completely unjustified.

Now it's about 3 months later, and I couldn't be happier. My basement is dry and I feel confident about the work that was done. I've seen other reviews saying that BZ Dependable is expensive, but I've seen others which I agree with that say you get what you pay for. The work that was done was extremely well done. From the moment they arrived they told me they would not let me go without fixing the problem and they did just that. I didn't need to spend more than twice the price than digging up my entire yard, sidewalk, and the street. DONT'S: The only reason this cost as much as it did was because I waited too long to find the right person to take care of the situation and my water heater was destroyed. DOS: I'm now on a subscription plan with BZ Dependable to snake the line once a year to ensure that roots don't begin to block the line again. Once a root begins to come through it's going to grow back again, so this is a must when this situation arises. Finally, yes, I would recommend them to anyone. If I ever run into any issues myself I will call them again.
Description of Work: Water began to backup from the clean-out line in my basement when I used a lot of water (washing machine, dishwasher, etc). My sump pump didn't have a check valve so the water would back up into the basin and the pump would run continuously until the water got through the line. I had a personal friend come in and try to clear the line, but his snake wasn't long enough to clear the line. Then I had Roto-Rooter come in. The person they sent ran a snake 84 feet and hit a stoppage. He came to the conclusion within 10-15 minutes that the line had ruptured and I would need to have it replaced. He quickly called me two references - one official, and one "unofficial". The unofficial reference told me he had a way to fix it without digging up the entire line and/or getting permits for $2300. The official reference came by and looked at the distance, talked to the town about permits, etc., and called me back saying it would cost $13,000 to fix. I put it off to try to find something better. After hearing the official reference's estimate I didn't exactly trust the unofficial reference. One Friday there was a terrible rain storm. I got home from work, and sat on the couch. After about 30 minutes I heard the sump pump start running in the basement. Knowing that I didn't run any water I was understandably concerned. I went downstairs and found water pouring out of the clean-out line cap at a steady pace. It didn't stop for hours. My sump pump was running every minute or two and kept overheating (it was an old sump pump). The sump pump finally gave out and died. At this point it was 1am and I figured I'd go to bed and sort it out in the morning. The next morning I looked downstairs and there was about 4" or more of water in the basement. I checked Angie's list and came across BZ Dependable, and they were a local company. I gave them a call. They were on a job, but came by in a couple of hours. I was visited by Frank, and later the owner, Brian. This was definitely a two man job. They spent at least two hours snaking out the line and pulled out a huge clump of what appeared to be strings from a mop. I just bought the house 8 months beforehand (on foreclosure with no damage disclosure), and I don't use a mop. We began running water and there was no backup. They still ran the snake a couple of times to clear any remaining debris. Also, to be on the safe side, I had a camera run down the line. A bit of tree root was found there which most likely contributed to the blockage in the line. They had a specialist run a high-powered water jet at what I was told (if I remember correctly) was 4000 psi which made quick work of removing the root. The four inches of water also destroyed my water heater. BZ Dependable came back on Monday and replaced the water heater. While doing so they propped up the new heater as far as they could while still fitting it into the vent under the low ceiling to help prevent any damage from possible future floods. Finally I needed to resolve a major part of the problem, the sump pump. Mine was old and dead (obviously). They installed not one, but two, sumps pumps which are much more powerful than the original. Water from the ever-melting snow was beginning to now seep up through the ground so this was essential. One pump runs on main power, and the second runs on a battery backup in case of a power outage (which I luckily haven't had to deal with so far). On top of all that they ran an extra drainage line from the sump pump to the outside of my house in case the clean out line clogs up again and there is nowhere to drain the water to. This was done by Jorge (I believe that was his name, it was a couple of months ago and I'm bad with names). I was pretty dead-set in where i wanted this line to run, and it wasn't easy to do. Jorge had to crawl into a very tight crawlspace in my basement to run this line, and it wouldn't be easy for anyone to do.

Description of Work: Extremely professional and responsible. My husband was out of town on business and the sewer line backed up due to huge rainstorms, flooding my basement. I called them the next morning, spoke to someone who told me that someone else would call me back. Bryan called me within 15 minutes and told me pretty much exactly when he would be there. I got another call from the office narrowing the time down even further. Bryan came to my door, was very professional, giving me a business card and a handshake as soon as he walked in the door. The work was done quickly but thoroughly. He also identified another problem for me and gave me a written estimate. Very pleased.

We called BZ Dependable to have some minor plumbing repairs done in our home (leaky kitchen faucet, and tub drain stopper not working). With each item the person that came gave us an "up-sell" story making the repairs much larger than they should have been. He was unable to give us a quote for the items without leaving the house to go call his boss from outside which seemed so odd. When he came back in with some of the pricing it seemed so grossly inflated. When we told the individual that the we were not comfortable with the pricing and would not move forward he told us then that there was a $165 service charge for him coming to our home. He said it's standard if you don't specifically request an appointment for an estimate; perhaps they should make this clear when you schedule the appointment. We flat out refused to pay this undisclosed fee and again, he excused himself to go outside again to call his boss to see what he should do. In the end he couldn't reach his boss and told us not to worry about the $165 charge; I assure you we were not going to lose sleep over it. This was a very awkward experience. I don't know why the employees of this company are not empowered to deal directly with the customer - perhaps the "boss" should be present at the job then. We've always had great experience with Angie's list vendors but this particular time it went sour. I would not recommend BZ Dependable based on this experience.
Description of Work: We had a drip in our kitchen sink and tub stopper not functioning. We did not have them perform the work as their pricing was way out of line and we were not comfortable with the way they handled the customer. See detail in my note under how it went overall.

We would like to apologize for the the unsatisfying experience. There is not much to say in regards to the situation, except for the fact that our technician was new to our company and was unfamiliar with all of our flat-rate pricing. He still felt the need to reach out to the boss for confirmation on pricing. I apologize for this. I can guarantee you that this issue has been resolved and will not happen again. Again, our apologies.

I found this plumber to be very friendly, professional and responsive. I didn't have to wait days for calls to be returned or to schedule service. That's important...often when you need a plumber, you need one right away!. Most of the work done was of fine quality, although the caulking around the bathrub has already started to chip away. I thought the price for unclogging a toilet -- I think it was $185...was on the high side.

I think the work he does is very good and everything he does works. He does his work to code and they work quickly, neat and they are very conscious about not tracking dirt in the house. They are reliable, they show up when they say they are going to. To me they seem expensive. I have recommended him to others and he is one of my top considerations for future use.

They did a good job. The work was completed. I will use them again in the future. If you will be a future client of theirs, tell them to give you a written estimate before the work is done.
Description of Work: I was having some renovation work done and I had an inspector come in to check the work that the previous plumber had done. It was done incorrectly and the previous plumber was not licensed. BZ came in and they corrected the problem. They did put in a new part but they took the old one and I wished they would have left it with me. It was the diverter for the shower and it was brand new. They put in a new one since it did not fit with what I had.

This could not have been a better experience. Bryan Zagaro's input was invaluable in terms of cost/benefit tradeoffs, setting realistic timelines, rerouting steam pipes and dealing with inspections. They worked beautifully with other contractors (Jaime's Home Improvements, Masucci Electric and Bergen Kitchen Wholesalers, all of whom also get A ratings). Bryan and his team showed up when he said they would show up, did what he said they would do, finished when he said they would finish, and charged what he said he would charge. The BZ Dependable team is respectful, helpful and leave a clean work place when they're done. This project was a rush from the start as we tried to get our house ready for a big holiday party. In seven weeks, these contractors did everything in their power to make it happen for us. And they pulled it off because they treated our problem as their own. The existing kitchen was gutted, an outside porch was torn down, rebuilt and then enclosed to extend the existing kitchen. The end result, if I may say so, is a classically beautiful kitchen. Hire BZ Dependable.
