They assisted in remodeling in a bathroom which we gutted completely. Project took longer than expected but that was due in large part to the town dragging out inspections. They replaced old plumbing , moved and changed a radiator. Good group of guys to work with . Bryant is knowledgeable and answered all our questions. I would definitely use them again

I cannot complain about the plumbers or their work. They were polite, clean and quick. The billing department is terrible though. We worked with Jennifer and she had charged our credit card instead of financing like we had said we wanted to do. Instead of being helpful she was rude, condescending and made no attempt to accommodate the situation. We are definitely not going back. We cannot trust how our finances will be handled there. It's sad because the plumbers were great and don't deserve to have such terriable office staff!

BZ Dependable is so awfully overpriced, it's almost silly. Firstly, they charge a fee just to come by and give the quote. I forget, but I believe it was $70. That should have been a red flag, already! We had a couple of small things that we wanted to get fixed - our major thing was that our radiator valve was broken and sputtered when we turned the heat on. We called these guys in, thinking we'll save some time and get a professional to fix these. The first thing they did was stick their BZ Dependable stickers all over our plumbing appliances - things that they never installed. Weird, no? They quoted us $1300, and were rather snippy and untruthful when I asked what the materials and labor breakdown was! What the heck? So I sent them off and decided to do it myself. I got the materials at Home Depot ($24) and watched a 3 minute Youtube video on how to fix it (here's the video for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0VQOZqiw7U) and then I fixed it. It took me less than 20 minutes. So, um. Yeah. These guys just charge whatever they want, and they make stuff up. They're truly unreasonable, and we still had to pay them that $70 fee just to get this treatment. Don't trust them.
Description of Work: They came to our house, charged us $70 and left after I heard their unreasonable quote of $1300 to fix a radiator valve.

Recommended replacement of the entire line for an estimate of $2500; well over twice the standard going rate. Tried to sign us up for a $12/month membership service that appeared to come with basically no obvious benefits other than priority response at short notice. Seems like a perfectly decent business that is willing to charge a hefty premium for customer service

Saw the Big Deal here on Angie's List and called BZ Dependable. Had tried other plumbers from further away, but BZ was in the next town, and the shower had stopped working. When I saw your Big Deal, and how close they were, I called them (at about Noon). They setup an appointment and were on time and here at 3pm. The problem was assessed and fixed, the inspection revealed some areas which needed attention on the boiler. A second appointment was arranged at my convenience; they showed up on time and the repairs were accomplished quickly and reasonably. I will definitely use these folks again!

Work was scheduled to begin on Thursday, 3/14. Two men arrived at about 9:00 to remove the cast iron laundry tub and to begin preparing for the installation of the new gas heating system. Work was completed for the day by 3:00 and any debris was completely removed. On Monday, 3/18, Bryan and his workers arrived at 9:00 and had the work finished by 5:30 that afternoon. Temperatures that day were relatively mild, so it was no problem being without heat for about 3 hours. Once again I was greatly impressed with the quality and efficiency of their work. The work site was as clean as it could be. The town's fire, electric, and building inspectors arrived the following week, having been scheduled by Bryan once I gave him my deposit. Inspections went smoothly and our heating system, sink, and pump are working beautifully. I can't speak highly enough about BZ Dependable Plumbing. Their professionalism extends from their office to the work site. It was once again a pleasure doing business with them.
Description of Work: After having had a great experience with BZ Dependable in 2012 replacing two toilets and a sink, my wife and I called upon them again for a more extensive project. Our goals this time were to convert our heating system from oil to gas and to replace a cast iron laundry tub and electric pump that had been in our basement laundry room since the house was built in the mid-1950's. I called BZ on Friday 3/8 to arrange for an estimate. Bryan arrived as scheduled on Tuesday 3/12 and wrote up a detailed proposal that would: 1. Remove the double concrete sink and all garbage from the job site; 2. Supply and install a new single bay fiberglass laundry sink, faucet and pump; 3. Remove the old oil fired boiler and all garbage; 4. Supply and install a new Williamson 105,000BTU Natural Gas Hot Water Boiler with all valves, fittings, and controls; 5. Provide a 2 year warranty on parts and labor; 6. Run a new 30' gas line from meter to boiler location; 7. Have the chimney cleaned and inspected. The price quoted for the entire job was $7,000.00.

Prior to the service call, my expectation was that the service rep would inspect our system and report his findings. I expected a written summary that we could use to discuss those findings. I wasn't expecting an estimate or the soft sell that accompanied it. Since the purpose of the visit was to conduct an inspection I was disappointed that it turned out to be a sales call. There is a difference. I would not do this again.
Description of Work: The service representative arrived on time. I showed him our thermostats and then took him downstairs to inspect our furnace and connections. He spend about 15 minutes in the basement examining our heating system and returned upstairs. He prepared an estimate based on his examination. This took about 10 minutes and then he proceeded to summarize the problems with our heating system. He handed me a written estimate of the cost to repair our system. The estimate totaled over $1,000. Throughout the visit, the service rep was polite, pleasant, and friendly.

First of all, estimates are supposed to be free according to his listing on Angie's List. After he arrived, he said "do you think I'm going to drive all the way here for free?" I asked how much it would cost and he told me it would be $250 to find the source of the leak. He said that the leak was found to be coming from the wall. Well 90% of the pipes are in the wall, so where in the wall is the leak coming from was my question. His response was again, "do you think I'm going to open up the wall to find where the leak is actually coming from?" I could have told him the leak is located in the wall - again, 90% of the pipes are in the wall. He said he could cut and seal the pipe to prevent the leak from continuing but that it would cost $125, which we went ahead and had him do, to prevent the pipe from leaking moving forward. He took what should have been a small project and turned it into a very expensive project for me going forward, because now I'm going to just replace the gas stove with an electric stove. He is a manipulator.
Description of Work: He was hired to diagnose the source of a leaky gas pipe.

Response from BZ Dependable Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
The Angie's List member's account of the chain of events that occurred yesterday is inaccurate. His quotes are completely false, especially since the entire transaction was handled by the wife, not the husband making the claims. Our company was contacted by (wife) to locate a gas leak in their 3 family house. During her initial call to our office, she said PSE&G came in and put a pin in the meter because a leak had been reported. PSE&G didn't locate the leak or red tag any pipes, which is very unusual, since that is part of their process when shutting down a meter. Over the phone, Member was quoted $69+tax for the trip charge and $250 an hour for leak detection. She agreed to the service call and we sent the technicians out. This was in NO WAY a Free Estimate. It was always a service call and the customer was well aware of the charges. The technician met the wife at the property and she escorted him to the basement where she claimed to have smelled the gas. She said she didn’t know where the leak was coming from. Supposedly, PSE&G didn't indicate any location, and she needed us to find it so she can get the gas turned back on for her tenants. The technician proceeded to start the proper gas leak detection process of performing an air pressure test to determine which gas pipe wasn't holding pressure. The technician disconnected the gas meter, gas lines were cut and capped, an air compressor was attached and the pressure tests were conducted on 3 gas lines in the basement. It was determined that the gas leak was in the wall between the basement and 2nd floor stove. Member was advised of the location of the leak and was told that in order for us to locate the damaged pipe in the wall, we'd have to open the wall in multiple areas until the leak was located in order for us to make the actual repair. This would be an additional $125 per access hole. This is where it started to get fishy. It wasn’t until the meter was apart and the air test was started, the wife phoned the husband. She was getting nervous and asked the technician, “How much would you charge me if I told you to STOP right now?” He told her, “$250 but we just started”. She said OK, keep going. The area of the wall, where the leak was, was located and then told the technician that her husband wanted to talk to him, but before she handed the phone over, she put the call on MUTE and told the technician, “Please don’t tell my husband how much this is all going to cost!”, then undid the MUTE and handed the phone to the tech. At that point the husband questioned everything the technician did and wanted to know why he did all of that when he, the husband, supposedly knew all along where the leak was, what needed to be fixed, and disagreed with the price that his wife already agreed to for the work that was already performed. Then why didn’t the wife tell the technician any of this information and stood by as the multiple steps to locate the leak were performed? All of this service time could have been avoided in the 1st place. The actual question that was asked by the tech was, “Do you think I'm going to open up the wall to find where the leak is actually coming from…..for nothing?” And that was apparently the case, he didn't want to pay, so the husband requested to have the line capped off at the basement level and the REPAIR TO THE GAS PIPE WAS NEVER MADE, because they didn’t want to pay to have it done. The customer was charged $375 for 1.5 hrs of leak detection service with 2 technicians and the $69 trip charge was waived. We did not make anything “more difficult” for the customer, as he claims. He apparently is choosing to change out the gas stove for an electric stove, rather than opening the wall and repairing the gas pipe for the stove. No manipulation here, just a case where the wife called for service and the husband didn’t want to pay to have the repair done. After the technician left the property, the wife gave the technician’s cell # to the husband and he called the tech demanding a refund and threatening to report our company to the BBB and Angie’s List if we didn’t refund the money that his wife willingly paid us. For the record, payment will not be refunded since proper services were rendered.

At least the faucet works fine. But to threaten us with a charge of $75 to get our free estimate and then charge over $500 to simply install a faucet and single filter unit on a kitchen sink is just way way too much. We should have just paid the $75 and went with someone else but we needed the work done. I definitely will not use this company again.
Description of Work: New to area and wanted local guy. Saw add that says FREE ESTIMATES but technician said it would be $75 if he left without doing anything. Then charged over $500 for installing a faucet and single filter on kitchen sink THAT WE PROVIDED HIM. Talk about a scam. Don't know Bryan (from other reviews) but we had James the plumbing technician. Other reviews seemed to like this company but I think it is best to stay away.

The project went very well.Bryan snaked her drain immediately the day I set up the appointment. We then scheduled a day for me to be with her while the rest of the work was completed. Bryan was especially helpful in explaining to me the process of having her buildings water turned off in advance of his arrival. He was very considerate while working in her apartment and I appreciated this because she has some health issues. The kitchen faucet was replaced and works great. Her bathroom is also looking and working great. Janet in the office is very pleasant to talk to and she communicated with me throughout the project as needed.

The project went very well.I trust this company and would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: My upstairs shower was leaking into the kitchen downstairs. I called in the afternoon on a Friday and James was at my house that evening. The ceiling had to be opened up and he was able to show me exactly where the leaks were coming from. He showed me the holes in the pipes caused by rust-this is a 75 year old house. Upstairs in the shower ,tiles had to be removed, piping up there was also clearly leaking and had to be replaced. The whole project took three different visits, the tile person came to replace the shower tiles and the kitchen ceiling area that was removed was then replaced. It was very helpful that they had the person redo the removed tile. The service from the company was excellent all the way through. James and George are professional, very hard working and skilled. They explained everything to me every step of the way.The project seemed very overwhelming that first day but BZ very methodically and efficiently got the job done so there was very little stress involved in the repair. Janet in the office is also very helpful. She really gets to know your project and is very pleasant and professional.

We made the appointment to have the work done. Bryan and his crew came out exactly as promised on the date and time agreed upon. The time frame they gave to have the job done completed was exactly as promised. The price quoted to me was exactly as agreed upon. Bryan and his crew did a fantastic job, with no interruption to my normal activities of the day. They cleaned up everything after the job was completed. All in All, I will definitely call upon this company again for all future jobs, and will definitely recommend to my neighbors.

James showed up within the appointed 2 hour time frame and work was begun. In addition to the issues he found on Wednesday, a faulty air bleed valve was also discovered. James thought I would be upset when this was explained to me, but actually I was glad he had found it and could replace it during this visit, eliminating the need to come back at a later date. Needless to say, the cost was increased, but not at the expected amount some others would have chanrged, in my experience as a homeowner. The whole job, including the draining of the heating system, replacement of the fittings and valves, and its subsequent refilling and testing took 3 hours. The work area was cleaned and the system works flawlessly now. My wife and I are very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: My first experience with BZ Dependable actually began on March 7, 2012, for a shower that did not turn on. I called them at around 10 in the morning and they were at my house, for this non-emergent issue, by 3pm. The problem was a non-working shower head assembly and a blocked tube, not the selector, as we thought it might be. A bit on the embarassing side, but for the cost, a lot cheaper than we were fearing it would be (like taking apart the wall of the shower stall to install a new selector, and trying in vain to replace tile that was first installed in 1995). Included in the visit was an inspection of our heating system, which was also installed in 1995, after a total bathroom and heating system remodel. The boiler's pipes were found to have a small intermittent leak, and one of the valves was also sporadically faulty. An appointment was made to replace them on Friday, the 9th.

Three days after their initial visit, 3 workers from BZ Dependable returned promptly at 9:00 a.m. ready to get to work. Throughout the day they worked diligently and efficiently. Particularly impressive to me was that they made certain that we had a toilet available to us for all but 90 minutes. The men were fastidious in their work being careful to clean up any debris. By 4:45 the work had been completed and they were on their way. After having had some unfortunate plumbing experiences in the past, working with the people from BZ Dependable was truly a pleasure. I certainly plan to call on them for any future plumbing needs. They were terrific people to work with and seemed genuinely committed to making this customer at least very happy and satisfied.
Description of Work: We contacted BZ Dependable after receiving an e-mail coupon from Angie's List for a drain cleaning and inspection. It was found that my 60 year old galvanized pipes would better be replaced than cleaned, as a cleaning would prove only to be a temporary fix. As we had some other plumbing projects on our "to do" list, my wife and I decided to go ahead and do more than clean the drains. We walked through the house, showing Bryan and Jorge what we wanted done in addition to having them explain what needed to be done. A written estimate was provided that day which included: cutting out a portion of the galvanized waste line for the bathtub; installing a new PVC pipe and fitting; removing a 60 year old existing toilet and cutting out an existing lead drain in our full bathroom; installing new PVC piping and fittings along with a new comfort-height toilet; removing the existing 60 year old wall hung sink and toilet from our half-bath; providing a vanity and faucet and a second comfort-height toilet; removing a panel of sheetrock from the basement ceiling and replacing it with a new panel.

I realize this service was performed some time ago but BZ made a lasting impression and I wanted to share our experience after just joining Angie's List. Bryan of BZ came highly recommended by a close friend and we were not disappointed. The work went mostly as expected only one surprise, we had to replace more of the old cast iron than originally thought and that added another $900. Our most lasting impression is the professionalism, cleanliness and precision in which the work was done. He worked his schedule into the carpenter's and electrician's seamlessly and at the end of the day everything was cleaned and put away. Being in a completely open space it was easy to see the work detail and believe me, it was thorough. We would definitely use them again, as a matter of fact we did (8/2011) for a clogged kitchen sink. He had to cut the elbow of the drain to snake the pipes. It was all done in record time (2 hrs) although the price was a little steep ($450). Bryan is a little on the expensive side, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: We were in the process of completely gutting and refinishing half of basement, it had an old "laundry room" - a washer and dryer in a old wooden closet complete with hook & eye latches for the doors; and a half bath with the old toilet on a pedestal (to be above sewer line). We were the project managers and called Bryan for an estimate. He came that same evening (accommodating our schedule) and gave a thorough (1 hr.) assessment also giving us ideas for placement of a normal toilet. Bryan put in completely new water and gas lines for our washer & dryer, a new exhaust through the foundation wall for the dryer, moved an existing water line for an external faucet, a new half bath and "bar" sink, demo of old cast iron sewer pipe and replaced with new PVC. The solution for the toilet being below the sewer line was a "Zoller" with connected pump - instead of digging the foundation (another plumber's suggestion).

Bryan and his team laid out a plan to complete the work over a two week period during normal business hours on weekdays. The plan was to keep the old oil boiler and hot water heater working and hooked up until the last minute so that we would not have any long periods of time without heat or hot water. His crew was on time for their scheduled visits. They were always neat and professional and courteous. Bryan was there himself each day for at least part of the time that his crew was working to supervise and be hands on. Everything went according to plan and was performed according to code. The new boiler was installed with a hot water storage tank. We decided to not try to start the new system the day before Thanksgiving (though it was ready to go) just in case there were any issues which we did not want to deal with over the holiday. In retrospect, it wasn' necessary. The system worked fine immediately. When the final change from oil to gas happened, we were without hot water and heat for about two hours. Afterwards, Bryan sent a team to dismantle and remove the old oil boiler and hot water heater. In the months that followed, two small leaks developed at a couple of welding junctions. Bryan was very responsive and sent his team to temporarily patch the leaks. In the Spring he came and re-did an entire section of piping; he stood by his 12 month guarantee and did not charge us for the work. Since then, we have hired Bryan for other jobs including replacing old shut off valves around the basement, snaking the main house sewer and fixing a toilet. No matter the job, big or small, Bryan and his team have always been responsive, on time, professional and have lived up to the company's name: dependable. We intend to use them in the future to re-zone the house.
Description of Work: BZ Dependable was recommended one year ago to my wife and me by a contractor after we purchased our home. Our house was built in the 1920's. Originally heated by coal fired steam, when we purchased the house it was being heated by an ancient oil fired hot water boiler (with an above ground in-basement oil tank) and a combination of radiators/baseboards. Initially we were looking for a general plumber to look things over in the house and have someone to go to with issues. Bryan Zagaro, the owner, came over on time for a scheduled appointment to test the heating system. He charged around $200 for this visit and spent over 2 hours with me tuning up the boiler (as much as possible), explaining the labyrinthine system of pipes in the basement and what all the valves are for and checking that all of the radiators and baseboards were bled and appropriately working. He noted that in three rooms in the house where the prior owners had replaced radiators with baseboards that the baseboard lengths were inappropriately short for the room sizes and that those rooms would be cold in the winter. He was right about that. We quickly realized that the oil boiler was on its very last legs as it repeatedly broke down once the weather got colder and we started using it more. We decided to replace the oil boiler with a gas boiler and to install a new hot water heater. At the same time we wanted to move the boiler to a different location in the basement to free up space; this would require rerouting some pipes and creating a new side ventilation pipe for the boiler. There would be electrical work involved as well and a new gas line would need to be routed to the boiler. One of our biggest concerns was getting the work done in a tight time frame (around Thanksgiving). We asked Bryan as well another plumber and the local utility company to give us estimates for the work. The three estimates all came to within $1500 of each other. Bryan's was in the middle. The other plumber we asked came over and spent about 30 minutes in the house and said he could do the job on Sunday evenings on his own and that he would install high efficiency machines to get us a tax credit. The utility company took two weeks to send someone over, he spent about 20 minutes in the house and 20 minutes in his truck writing an estimate. His estimate was only for the work to replace the boiler, not move it to another part of the basement. He recommended the biggest (higher BTU) gas boiler that the company installed. Bryan came over and spent two hours in the house. He measured the square footage of the heated spaces. He measured the baseboards and the radiators. We discussed how my family and I typically used hot water and how warm we liked the house to be. We went over different options for the new system including optimal location of the boiler, current and future zoning possibilities, the probable need to upgrade the gas line from the street, the choice between a separate hot water heater or a storage tank and where the side vent should be placed. We discussed which rooms needed larger baseboards. Needless to say, we were much more pleased with Bryan's thoroughness and attention to detail.
