HATED IT. I have never got such bad service in my entire life. First the service guys came in to look at a water damage, stayed in for 7 minutes, told me I had a frozen pipe which Home Warranty doesn't cover but didn't even locate it because they were in a rush to get the $100 and leave. When I panicked about the water damage not being fixed and called the company, I got to speak with Bill, who apparently is the owner of Long Lane or at least in charge of "customer service". Instead of listening to me, he was arrogant, hostile and verbally aggressive, not only towards me but also the plumber I had called in. Later I emailed to complain, but never got a reply. This guy shouldn't be in service business, and that's why his company isn't helping people, just making it worse. I hope his arrogant style eventually leaves him without any customers.

See above. Nice guy, talked liked he knew what he was doing but either didn't want to go the next step or couldn't figure out he should have checked for lint buildup even though 1) clothes were no longer drying and 2) we've had serious lint build up & Fire previously
Description of Work: Dryer was not drying clothes. Had Long Lane come out to check dryer vent. We had previous issues and had a blower fan installed. Rep looked at fan and said it was ok- suggested it could be the sensors on the dryer. Had Sears out to look at dryer ($149 charge since the service warranty had just expired 3 weeks prior!) and Sears determined there was a blockage based on the air flow. Went with Lowes Air Duct Cleaning- A rating with 300+ reviews- for a second opinion. Turns out, we had a major lint backup at the vent escape. That cost $149 as well. $300 all in for other providers to diagnose and fix a problem Long Lane should have done.

I usually use Sears but thought Iwould give a local guy a try- I was so sorry I did. I asked for the first apt of the day as my son works nights and would have to stay awake and wait for him. I was promised the first appt and that the repair guy could be at my home by 8 am - Perfect! I agreed to this only to have him finally show up at 10 am. They charged the $ 89 plus tax to come out and tell me my icemaker was broken then wanted $ 180 for the part and another $ 90 to install it. Not applying any of the $89 to any of this. Also they said the part was on back order for 2 weeks. At this point I said never mind. I know that icemaker pops into place very easily. I went online to Sears parts- got the part I needed for $ 110 including shipping, had it at my home in 3 days and put it in myself. Sears even has videos to show you how. Go there not here.

They don't offer appointments for their home warranty work (not sure if they do for other clients), so you need to be available all day. They will call when they're on the way though, so it's not like you need to be waiting at the door. The first call was for my heat not working, the technician came out and quickly diagnosed a faulty gas valve. He didn't have hte part on hand, and it took them about a week to get it. Once it came in, they again gave me a day that they would come out, but not a time or window. They replaced the valve with no problems, and the heater works again now. The second visit they replaced a faulty garbage disposal, replaced a water valve, and capped a drain line that had broken. They were fairly quick, very polite, and very professional. Overall I was happy with the work that they did.
Description of Work: One visit they replaced a gas valve on my heater, another visit they replaced a garbage disposal, replaced a water valve, and capped a drain line.

We had a marvelous experience with Long Lane. John arrived on time, having called first in order to confirm that I would be home. He went right to work checking our Goodman high efficiency furnace that seemed to be leaking water from inside the heat exchanger. We were quite worried that this would be a serious problem. About one hour and 1/2 later, John reported that the problem was fixed, he had installed a new (custom made) gasket and that the furnace was in immaculate condition and should run for many years! hooray. He explained thoroughly what he did and the breakdown of the cost in labor and parts. He talked to me for a while in order to answer my questions about maintenance on the furnace. When next winter season rolls around I will be calling Long Lane for a furnace checkup for sure! Highly recommended.

Vendor was assigned by Home Warranty policy on Monday morning. The vendor called and said we could replace on Wednesday. After a a call by homeowner, they said Tuesday. They arrived at 6:30 Tuesday evening with the wrong size and no concern for shutting off water or controlling further leakage. After a call Wed. morning saying there would further costs not covered by the warranty, an explanation for those costs was requested from Long Lane. After I spoke and relented with the additional costs, the replacement would now occur on Thursday. 3 days without hot water in 30 degree temperature...TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We cancelled the install on Wed. night after contacting a local plumber who replaced it THAT evening.
Description of Work: Came out to replace broken water heater. had incorrect size, so replacement was put off for another day and subsequently cancelled by client due to delays. Technician never instructed homeowner about proper shut-off and usage procedure and subsequently caused further leaking and damage to surrounding walls and carpet.

He came out and said that he wanted to cut out 3 feet in 3 different directions to "fix it right". The quote ended up being over $1400. This project he wanted to cut out my call and replace pipping. He even said that there was no leak. It was just a crack in the pipe so I wanted him to just fix that one spot but he refused.

I asked to have them repair the ice maker in our refrigerator. When they came out the guy played with it for a bit then said it can't be fixed because most ice makers can't be fixed (so why didn't they tell me that over the phone instead of claiming out.). Then the guy left but unbeknownst to us he disconnected the water supply tube but didn't turn off the water. We had to go out for the evening and when we came home there was water all over the floor which bled under the laminate flooring and into the hallway carpet. They claimed no responsibility and only said we could apply what we paid for the service toward a new refrigerator. When I went to their main location to complain tot the manager he said he would cut me a break on a floor model. I was not happy with the minimal offer, considering the damage that was done, so I left and went to Lowe's. There I found the same refrigerator for $1000 less than the one they were 'giving me a break' on. Stay away from them unless you want to throw away money.

Great experience for a first time caller. I contacted them just after 8AM on a Monday morning - our bulb had died in the fridge and after replacing the bulb, it still had not illuminated. I was told although they were busy that day with orders, they were able to squeeze me in. ( which was just fantastic! I contacted another appliance repair service prior to this one - and was told the first available opening would be Friday, 5/2 between 8A-10A!!) I received a call from the technician at 1145A and he arrived approximately 20 minutes later. John represented the company very well, professional, friendly & knowledgeable. He told me exactly where the problem was (the switch, not the light socket as we originally thought) and explained everything he was doing. John also provided a list of services the company offers along with the receipt - which he broke down all charges for me. I was very impressed with our first time encounter, and will definitely cal them for all future in home repairs or servicing needed with our appliances, heating & cooling.

Long Lane called me back in 10 minutes and scheduled and appointment. Marco the techncian was prompt friendly and thorough. A previous contractor had been to the house (the Warranty Company, HSA, sent another contractor first who was frighteningly incompetant). The previous contractor (Not Long Lane) told me: a) he could not even diagnose Zone 2 until we removed the ceiling; and b) He only intended to replace a blower motor on the heater even though he noticed a fair amount of roll out on the burners that indicated a heat exchanger problem. When asked to diagnose further the previous conrtactor said, and I'm not kidding: it might be a problem, so I suggest installing a carbon monoxide alarm. So, ya. We fired them. In comes Marco from Long Lane, he diagnosed Zone 2 as being a bad breaker (no ceiling removal needed). He also diagnosed the bad heat exchanger (cracks on both sides of 4 tubes) and a bad flue collector (casing also cracked). He recommended replacing the unit and thought it might have been a safety issue to NOT replace it - there were other problems with the unit as well. He came back in a few days to install the new unit, which he did in a very professional manner. HSA paid the bulk of the costs and Long Lane charged us $1000 for extras (the amount not covered by the Warranty, according to HSA - we'll deal with them later). I thought the $1,000 was a little more than I wanted to spend but after seeing the professional manner in which they approached in the installation, I felt it was money well spent. I'll use them again. The first contractor will never set foot in my house again.

This was done under a home warranty call out. First time out the repair guy and his assistant were very polite. They ran all the water fixtures in the house and believe they had taken care of the issues with the draining issues and gases bubbling in the toilet. I said I wasn't convinced and the repair guy ran the snake. All was fine for two days after that, I started having the toilet and shower issues again. Fast forward to today. Had the same repair guy come back as a recall for the same issue. He saw the toilet bubble, ran all the water fixtures and said that all the issues were resolved. I told him I wasn't convinced again. He said short of replacing the sewer line he had no other recommendations. The technician was NOT a licensed plumber. The technician left me a receipt for the call and left. My home warranty company has been in contact with Long Lane and Long Lane now claims I did not pay the deductible, however me receipt says otherwise. Due to the lack of resolution for the issue, and the lack of professionalism/certification, I have to give Long Lane a failing grade.

The service call went really well. Long Lane came out through our contract with our home warranty company. Our oil heater was automatically shutting off and not turning back on. We were scheduled for an afternoon appointment, but the technician was not able to make it during this window. This was understandable considering this is the busy time of year for heater repairs. Even then, the technician went above and beyond and came over at 8pm to make sure that we still had the service performed. He worked quickly and was able to advise us that the heater was working fine, but there was actually water in our oil tank. Unfortunately, this was not covered by our home warranty, but he advised us of this, showed us the water and explained to us exactly what needed to be fixed. He did replace the filter and nozzle since those were damaged by the water.

For a 9 AM appointment, the technician showed up at 12 PM. The service call was %99. The technician misdiagnosed the problem even though I told him what the problem was - a) he over-filled the system with refrigerant at $72/lb (x3 lb). This had to be later corrected by a different company. 3. Replaced the run capacitor for $47. This was unnecessary given that the problems was with the fan motor and not the capacitor. The technician left after 30 minutes and charged me $95 for labor. Overall, I paid close to $500 that day. I would have been content had it not been for the fact that the problem was not solved and the fan stopped the next day. After repeated calls, they agreed to send another technician. This one came to the house, flipped the breaker, and when the fan started he left without fixing anything. Surprise, surprise, the fan stopped ten minutes after he left. This was a Friday morning. I called the company again but I was told they don't work over the weekends. After a weekend without AC, they came on Monday at which point I insisted that they change the fan motor and nothing else. They charged me $325 for the motor and labor. Although the problem was fixed at this point, I felt uncomfortable with the work they have done so I called another company to come and take a look. Surely, the new company (highly rated on Angie's list), had to remove 1.25 lb of refrigerant and some more work to fix the mess they left behind. My advice - Stay away from Longlane - even if it is the only one available for the work - you are better off waiting for someone else that knows their stuff.

Dear [removed member name], Thank you for your complement. We are glad the second time was not really anything. The young man who came to do the work was very prompt, efficient, explained everything and unusually courteous, based on prior experiences with other companies and contractors. We had a 50 gallon tank which they replaced with a 40 gallon tank, inadvertently. I am disappointed about this mistake because the extra 10 gallons has made a difference, but in fairness, I did agree to keep it when he offered to replace it with the 50 gallon. This is a two part review because our initial interaction/transaction was very good. However a call back to report an issue which occurred since the water heater was replaced was deplorable. Our hot water heater and the main valve for the outside water are located in the same "closet" in the garage. When we turned the water off at the beginning of winter, it was working. When we attempted to turn the water on two weeks ago, it was no longer working. The only thing which changed in between working and not working was the replacement of the water heater which is about 1'-2' from the water heater. I realize they seem entirely unrelated and was willing to consider other causes, but when I called Long Lane to inquire about this, the (male) person from the company was condescending and spoke to me as if I was a stupid female who could not possibly know what I was talking about. When I attempted to speak, he spoke over me and was not hearing a word I was saying. The fact that this is representative of service after the sale now has me wondering if they installed a 40 gallon water heater at the 50 gallon price, since we were crystal clear about the size prior to the installer coming out with the new tank. I am very conflicted about my review, although I have stated the facts and it is an honest account of what happened. What I expected was for the company to have the installer come out to ensure nothing had changed since the installation of the water heater. What the person suggested were very basic things we already attempted before calling, so "we didn't have to pay for a house call". Oddly enough the very courteous installer assured us if we had any problems whatsoever in relation to the newly installed water heater, that they would gladly come out to address it. What he neglected to tell us was that it was just his standard closing line and the company doesn't really provide service after the sale, unless we pay for it! UPDATE: Since I am not a qualified professional plumber or electrician, I was clearly unable to make an assessment of the situation as described in the reply, which is why I was calling a "professional". Again, my 2nd experience was a bad as the first was good. It clearly depends upon who you speak with and there is an absolute demarcation of customer service from one employee to another. The employee during the 2nd experience on the phone was outright rude and condescending.
Description of Work: We were experiencing intermittent issues with a 10 year old water heater and referenced Angie's List to locate a reputable servie company to repair or replace it. The recommendation was to replace the non functioning hot water heater, based on age, which we did.

Dear [removed member name], We are sorry to hear you are disappointed. However in our notes we find in your follow up phone call you describe a defective main water valve. This is not replaced on a standard hot water heater replacement call. We assured you we could and would take care of your problem but could not fix this on a no charge basis...
