Got an estimate from these guys. Although they were professional and showed up on time, the price was so high we actually laughed. $8300 to do the electric in my crawlspace? I don't think they actually even looked under there - they said we had old fabric covered wires and everything was unsafe and had to be replaced. In fact, our wires are plastic covered, as the wiring under there was replaced when we did our addition. I think they just assumed due to the age of our house that the wiring was old, and that because of our zip code we could afford to pay a premium. Went on to get an estimate from another contractor for about $1500 - and that *included* moving the junction boxes up into the first floor so they won't get wet again. Be careful folks, a lot of these contractors are using the storm to price gouge homeowners. This guy looks to be one of them.

Response from Buck's and Son Electrical Service Inc
Dear Member, I would like to personally respond to your price gouging accusations and dispute the remark that I was not physically at your home for the estimate. I was the one who personally went into your crawl space only to find the insulation still in place. At that point, I prepaired an estimate, not a bill; to rewire your flood damaged electrical work based on what I could see. As you may or may not know, the city of Brigantine requires that all electrical wiring and associated boxes which came in contact with water must be replaced. This is a requirement for both cloth and romex wire which has plastic coating. I'm confident that your contractor filed and prepaired all required permits to safely complete your rewire. Through our numerous experiences with flood damaged rewires, we pride ourselves in completing the job in the most safe and professional manner. We will continue to do our best in serving the community, as we have since 1957, with the utmost integrity. Michael Schafer

Called in aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Sump pump outlet was sparking and needed to be tested. There was an understandable delay getting to me, but they did return my calls and they did come to my house. Person was in my house, maybe 5 minutes, tested two outlets, said they were both good, told me someone would get back to me on an estimate for putting a new sump pump outlet in and running a new washer line. Receipt says they need to put keyless on switch @ top of stairs (there is presently a switch at top of stairs - so I'm not sure what that is for). He then presented me with a bill for $110 ice charge of $110.00 when I called them ervice charge of $110.00 when I called them
Description of Work: Called in aftermath of hurricane Sandy. Sump pump outlet was sparking and wanted it tested. Understandable delay getting to me, but they did call back and they did come out. Person was in my house, maybe 5 minutes, tested two outlets, said they were good, and presented me with a bill for $110.00 for a service call. They neglected to tell me about minimum service charge when I called them. I was also not given an "Angie's List" discount. When plumber arrived later, he noticed one of the outlets electrician said was good and said "this is an accident waiting to happen". When I told him electrician said outlet was safe, he laughed and recommended that I NOT use that electrician. Plumber put connectors on loose wires at tested outlet.

I called Buck's based on the Angies list rating (called a few other well rated places too). Bucks owner was friendly on the phone and knew just the service i was talking about. Gave me a ballpark price on the phone with worse and best case. They set up the appointment quickly (a few days later) and showed up as scheduled. The tech was a nice guy and seemed very knowledgeable about solar. After looking at my set up, he offered 2 types of meter install with prices for each. I selected one and a couple hours later (at the most - don't recall exact), it was done. Couldn't be happier really. I have asked them for pricing on 2 more jobs and just a matter of lining up the contractors for the other pieces (like plumbing) before i will proceed. Also, i told a few guys from work about them (for the Solar upgrade) and they were equally pleased. That's especially nice because, when you recommend someone, you like to have it work out.

During Hurricane Sandy, I was turning off a circuit breaker in my panel when I noticed a drop of water run out of the breaker. After I picked my jaw up off of the floor, I took the front of the panel off and noticed there was a LOT of water dripping onto my breakers. I used compressed air to blow the water out of the breakers, then dried the rest with a hair dryer. I could not determine the source of the leak until I saw a new drop forming on the main ground wire that was coming in from the meter. I 'improvised' a duct tape 'channel' that would catch the drops and guide them past the breakers and out onto the floor. This would get me through the storm. Two days after the storm, I went onto Angie's List to find someone to find and fix this problem. Buck Electric had the best rating, so I called them at 9:30 in the morning. They had a crew out to my home by 10:30. They diagnosed the problem and had to leave to get the correct part to fix the issue. They returned at 11:30 and had it fixed by 12:30. So, from my phone call in the morning until the time it was fixed was about three hours. Outstanding. The two gentlemen who came out to fix the issue were professional and pleasant. I could not have asked for an easier experience.

They guys from Buck's Electric arrived on time and were very knowledgeable and professional. We were getting 3 ceiling fans installed in a condo unit that had concrete block so they were not dealing with drywall. They were able to run the wires and take care of things when most electricians I asked for estimates told me they either would not do it or didn't know how to do it. Very professional. Unfortunately for us, the Harbor Breeze fans we purchased were garbage (along with the garbage remotes) and after installation it wobbled so badly and had such a loud noise that it had to be taken down. The one fan was fully installed, the second fan was only partially installed since I had seen the problem with the first fan. The third fan was a Casablanca Fan and went up quickly with no problems. Since the Harbor Breeze fans were so awful, they asked me if I wanted to have the fans taken down and put back into the box for return. Since I did not put them up and did not know how to take them down or get them back in the box properly, I agreed and thanked them. When the bill came I was surprised to see an $80 charge for removing the fans. Upon calling Buck's Electric, I was told that since it took them 35 minutes (which I dispute) to remove the fans for me, I was being charged. It would have been nice to have been told this by the installers. I argued the charge (considering that they technically did not INSTALL 3 fans, and, rather abruptly (and somewhat rudely), he told me that he gave me the Angie's Discount* even though he didn't have to (?) and if I would just pay the bill, he would take the $80 off. I was SO shocked that he would speak to me like that. I had every intention of paying the bill. I just wanted to have a discussion about the $80. So, to sum it up, excellent company as far as quality of work. Not so good on the people skills. Just don't let them do anything EVEN IF THEY OFFER without finding out if it is going to cost you. Also, they say they don't participate in Angie's List. Not sure how they have a current coupon up for use if they don't. Perhaps they are unaware that not every Angie's list vendor has a coupon program. I would assume it is something you have to sign up for. So basically they gave me a $30 discount and then turned around and charged me $80. The bill is being paid but unfortunately they have lost a customer.

I called Buck's to have to attic fans and a celing fan installed. They were prompt with their return call and visited the work area shortly thereafter. Made appointment for the following week and the two gentlemen that were sent were very courteous and competent. They explained everything that they were doing and did the work very cleanly and professionally. I provided the ceiling fan and they provided the two attic fans. They suggested the most effient locations and explained the best use of the attic fans. I would definitely recommend them to others.
