Village Sweep Chimney Service

They do not do the kind of work we needed done but, they provided us with a name of a mason that would. They were prompt in returning my call. I would not hesitate to call them again If I needed chimney sweep services.

They arrived on time. The owner and his 2 assistants were all extremely courteous and pleasant. They were very careful to cover all my carpets. I plan to have them back to repoint the bricks in the firebox of the fireplace that we actively use. I was very pleased with their service.

Cap looks fine and the chimney looks ready for painting. But it's not as if I got closer than the ground to see the work.

We called the David the Village Sweep to come out to tell us how many flues/chimneys we had and to do a cleaning on a house we just bought. David and his two crew members came out on a Saturday morning and were on time. Unfortunately, we didn't have a flue for the fireplace in our living room, but David and his guys were sensitive to our disappointment and gave us some good advice for alternatives and, more importantly, advice on things not to do. They also did a thorough cleaning of the flue for the boiler. The flue had a little deterioration, and David told us that we should get a metal insert, but that we didn't need it right now (since he knew we were planning to do other things with our money in the short term and the deterioration wasn't bad). David and his crew were great, professional, and punctual. I highly recommend them.

When I moved into house and used chimney, I would have smoke smell and could see smoke in attic. Seemed like my chimney had blockage.I first had a chimney inspection done by those companies you get in coupon mail packets. They went on roof and used camera in chimney and said my chimney was "shot". They said the terracotta chimney had small gaps that was causing smoke to get in my house (even though 3 sides of the chimney is exterior to the house. It didn't make sense and quoted me over 10k$ for relining my chimney. Not wanting to spend this amount I did nothing (and stopped using chimney).A few years later, after joining Angie's list I saw David's high ratings and decided to get his view and what options I have. His crew came and right away found that my "cap" on my chimney was some gutter screen attached with tar which essentially was blocking off the flow in my flue. He put a proper cap on and for less than 500$ my chimney has had no smoking issues in the house.I appreciate David's honesty and not trying to take advantage like the other chimney people did. I highly recommend David!

MUCH more honest and helpful than another company I had in for an estimate. Other company wanted to sweep chimneys that have gas fireplaces -- David from village sweep told me those don't need sweeping too often and mine looked fine. Also said I didn't need new chimney caps -- all in all saved me over $1000. Very nice, clean, professional to boot. I highly recommend them.

Very impressed with their responsiveness initially and again impressed with their thoroughness when they came to do the work. They made sure everything was covered appropriately and one person cleaned the chimney while David inspected the gas flue. Wasn't given scary warnings of things that could go wrong (and could only be prevented by some immediate fixes - a favorite ploy in the category. David was straight forward, honest and did a good job for the price I expected. I will gladly use them again in the future.

We called this company late in the week and got an appointment on Saturday, a few days later. This appears to be a family business run by a husband and wife team. The wife answers the phone and is incredibly easy to talk to -- very polite and patient. David himself came out with a helper to do our chimney sweep. They were right on time (a couple minutes early). They checked out our fireplace and chimney pretty thoroughly, then cleaned it for what seemed like 45-60 minutes. This house was new for us, so they told us all about our chimney and gave us a few tips. They did offer us some services (chimney cap, install a lining, install a better flu) that they said we would probably need at some point, but they weren't pushy about it and for some of the more expensive services David quickly told us we could probably wait a little while. The price for the clean seemed reasonable, but I thought the price for the other services seemed a little high (they wanted ~$180 for the chimney cap, which I had seen online for about $40), but again, they weren't pushy about it and said they'd come out and install it at another time for no extra charge if we changed our mind. In all it was a good experience and I'd recommend them.

First, let me start with Tess, David's partner who answers the phone. As we are new to home ownership, and have never had our own fireplace before, Tess directed us to their Web site which has very helpful information on teaching yourself a bit about your own fireplace and chimney. She was very knowledgeable and answered some of my questions over the phone. We then scheduled a day for David to inspect the chimney. David and his two co-workers arrived right on time and were professional and personable. They inspected our chimney, fireplace, and flues from the living room, the basement, and the roof. They taught us about our particular fireplace and made recommendations for how to get the most out of it (raise the grate higher, warm the flue, build an upside down fire, install glass doors). They climbed to the top of the house and checked on the chimney from the top down, teaching us about the number of flues in our chimney and their current conditions. They checked on the damper and the chimney caps. David determined that the chimney did not need a cleaning. They made recommendations for the future. A few weeks later, we had a problem arise in the basement area below the fireplace. David was at our home the same morning we called to look at the problem and helped us to determine that the support below the hearth area needed to be replaced--something that was not able to be seen prior. So now I am off to find a mason, and am grateful to David for helping a frazzled homeowner assess the situation and come up with solutions!

Very thorough and professional. Arrived on time, carefully inspected three chimney flues and cleaned/swept two of them . Did not try to sell me on unnecessary repairs. Explained what could be done to improve draft (sealing off basement chimney flu damper ...yes I have a fireplace in the basement that is never used!) and how I could do that myself. Also made it clear that annual cleaning/sweeps are unnecessary. $225 seems pretty pricey, but I trusted them completely, and appreciated that they didn't try to convince me that i needed extra work. Wore booties to cover their shoes and cleaned up well afterwards.

Overall, it went very well. However, I was told that chimney caps could not fit onto my flues b/c they are oval shaped. Internet research says otherwise, but I respect his opinion.

They were wonderful. We were very pleased with them. He was very prompt and polite. He was very knowledgeable about his business. He was also very clean.

He did charge to come out unlike other companies. He doesn't do free estimates. He's knowledgeable and arrived on time. He no longer does all the work himself. We've used him for years and now he has assistants. One was trained and one wasn't which was a little disappointing because we thought he was going to be doing the work himself.

He was really professional. He was clean and thorough. He actually said that I didn't need it to be cleaned and he was willing to call it a day but I really wanted it because I use my fireplace a lot.
