Dennis's carpenter, Frank, showed up on time to do the installation with an assistant, and the guys were courteous, professional, and tidy with their work. Everything went off without a hitch. It was a yucky humid day, but the guys never complained and worked both efficiently and with attention to detail. The doors look amazing, as do the drywall repairs, and we finally feel safe and happy in our home.

My front door and its hardware were old. The door was leaking air around it. The hardware was falling apart; replacement parts were no longer available. My choice was to completely refurbish the old door and prepare it to accept new hardware or replace the door and the hardware. I chose the latter course. I got an estimate from another local provider of $2400 for an insulated steel door and hardware, which didn't seem outrageous, but the guy kept dragging his heels and telling me how busy he was, so I checked Angie's List and called Essex Replacement Door. The owner came right over and wrote up a proposal for a total of $1600. Same door, same procedure, good hardware. He told me it would take a month for the materials to arrive. One month later he called to schedule the installation for the following week. The carpenter arrived on time, worked for several hours and completed the job. After he left, a piece of the saddle dislodged and I called him. He returned and fixed the problem immediately. I would use Essex Replacement Door again without hesitation.

Making the door, storm door, and side light selection via the plethora of choices in the magazines that Dennis brought with him was a pleasant experience. He was patient and even gave his personal input to color schemes, door panel designs, glassware, and trim design. Dennis was even able to get his crew to work the 4th of July weekend which was so convenient! Not to mention essential in our plans to go away for the weekend. Who works the day after the 4th of July on a Saturday?! We would definitely use Dennis and Essex Replacement Door & Window again!!! Thx Angie's List for making the introduction!

They never showed up. Never called. Nothing. One thing I have learned from many years of dealing with workers, if they can't even be bothered to show up to make the sale, what do you think they'll do once they already have your cash? I make it a policy never to follow up with workers that don't show up. It's one thing if they called and apologized or even if they were running 5 hours late and called to say so, it wouldn't be a problem. But to simply not acknowledge that an appointment was ever made is a show of true negligence.

Both times, services were terrific! Dennis took perfect measurements of the door and window that needed to be replaced, and his contractor did a great job on the installation. He also helped us out on a problem with our garage door opener, which was acting "finicky." When the garage door wouldn't open several weeks later, we called Dennis again. Dennis came out that afternoon and advised us that the motor of the garage door opener needed to be replaced. He ordered the replacement, which was delivered and installed the next day. I can't say enough about the quality of the service!

Essex Door exemplifies craftsmanship. We took our time and shopped our custom storm door project around. Thank goodness we didn?t settle with someone before we found Dennis of Essex Door. These guys get it. Dennis was gracious and understanding of our particular requirements. He had the right product at a fair price and the right attitude. We were confident at contract signing and our expectations were more than met when Frank, the installer, came to put it in. I feel like he treated our project like it was his own, a true craftsman. He went beyond what would be considered reasonable expectations in the install ?performing great carpentry and wonderful attention to detail. I would recommend Essex Door without reservation.

When I purchased the Big Deal, I had listed a few times when I was available to have them come perform the service. I have yet to hear from them. When I called, there was no ring and that was verified by a representative from Angie's List who also tried to call them. I have contacted Angie's List for a refund of the Big Deal purchase and have moved on from this provider.

purchase through Angies list glass deal provider did not contact me I called them , they did not respond, Angis list charged me 99.00 and i would like and expect a full refund. if your contractors are not going to respond after being paid then Angies List should be responsible for the 99.00

Excellent. Dennis was very helpful with the estimate and was always responsive to calls, permits, etc. Frank S. was our carpenter and is a true master carpenter. This door was not an easy install and it looks like it was always there. We will now have access to the garage from the main house and Essex is a very professional company. Fine work!

had a leak in the bathroom when i was not home sometime in august 2013. firemen had to do a forced entry, destroying my lock and badly denting my door and door frame. i live in a condo building so only certain fire door rating, kind, size, color will work to match the rest of the units. i got 3 quotes and dennis came up with the most reasonable price. had some delays with his door supplier but he keeps me updated. his installers were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. they protected my newly refinished floors during the job. had problems with lock installed due to manufacturer's defective mechanism. dennis sent his locksmith who even came out on a holiday and got me a new lock installed successfully! dennis and his company truly deserves the glowing reviews on angie's list. i highly recommend him!

Installation was quick and service was impeccably delightful! I feel super secure now. Definitely using them for my next job (which will replace my other exterior door that was there for Ben Franklin!). I highly recommend this family owned company that has over 37 years of experience.

Dennis was pleasant to deal with, and since due to weather we had to reschedule a few times, the communication was good. However, the installer was wonderful! He really knows his stuff and did an excellent job!! It's amazing that for the most part he handled it himself! I hope Dennis takes care of him!!

Dennis installed a new garage door for me - one that I could control from_x000D_|the outside with just the touch of a button._x000D_|He checked out the site himself and then sent his employee to install the_x000D_|actual door. I am delighted with my wonderfully responsive door, which incidentally is quite beautiful. Catherine.

Denis was very informative in taking the time to walk through the different options available to us for upgrading or replacing one of our doors, and repairing/replacing all of our windows. Best of all, he volunteered to do a few quick fixes right on the spot, which were very helpful, and which we wouldn't have felt comfortable doing on our own - he did them quick and easily! Although we haven't decided what direction to go yet with the upgrades and have not done a cost comparison with other providers (so can't accurately review price for services), we will definitely be considering this company to do the work.

They have a tradesmen named Frank who is amazing. He's a master carpenter with over 30 years of experience. He can handle any surprises that come up. He owner Dennis is a great guy too. Dennis will come out and make house calls and make an estimate on the spot. He is very personable. The experience was First Rate!

I received very professional service throughout the process, from estimate meeting through to completion. The day of install was smooth and efficient. The windows were made by United, manufactured right here in NJ. Pricing was competitive. The windows were one slider and three double hung, for a condo unit. One bonus is that the United Windows are two tone, so the outside matched the other windows in a dark brown-bronze color, but the inside are white. I didnt even know that was an option in windows, and the interior looks dramatically better with the white windows. I would use Essex in the future.

With 30 years of experience he was meticulous and so clean you wouldn't know he did work here. Very personable and patient and took his time on all he did. Was here for 2 days and always on time

Dennis is a gem. He has been at this game for quite a while and it shows in the best possible light through his knowledge, as well as the though the people he has assembled under his wing. Dennis visited our home after 6pm (per our schedules, which was really lovely) to discuss different options for what our needs were. We were interested in installing two new security screen/glass doors, as well as replacement of a warped and rotting interior door the previous home owner decided to install as an exterior side entrance. During his visit, Dennis showed us samples of the actual doors, and was really a pleasure to deal with. He was clear with pricing and while at first we were a bit taken aback with how long we had to wait for installation because of production, it was truly worth the wait. Our doors were installed on a Saturday (again, per our schedules which was very much appreciated!) by Frank, who honestly was one of the more skilled woodworkers we've come across. He has been working with Dennis for over 12 years and has been in the profession twice that and it showed. He installed both screen doors and then single-handedly tore out our house-that-jack-built rotten side door and casing and replaced it with our lovely new steel / window door, trim and all. In a day. Without a helper. Ok? Ok. Do yourself a favor and just call Dennis if your thinking of any kind of door replacement. While his prices are not Home Depot cheap, you get what you pay for and we are super pleased with the result.

These guys were great, pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Dennis came out to do the measurements and understand what we needed. Same day I selected the storm doors from the catalogue and we were on our way. Pricing seemed very reasonable. Installation was a few weeks later, workers showed up on time and did a great job. I will do business with them again.

Had a lot of difficulty finding someone who does this kind of work. Sales person was excellent, listened, prompt and very professional. If you need your basement bilco style cellar doors replaced they are the ones to call. There was a long lead time to get the doors installed because they had to be custom made, but when they went in everything looks great. Thanks!

The fellow who came out was friendly, prompt and honest but their products were not the same quality as some of the other companies. The service was good but the product was a little too inexpensive.

Essex Replacement Door & Window representative was intelligent and very pleasant to deal with. There was no pressure and it was a good experience. Everything that he promised was fulfilled and they were very good. They weren't cheap, but everything they did was what we wanted and anything that we needed corrected they did and that was very minor. Overall it was an excellent experience and one that I haven't had in a while.

Overall the job went as I had hoped. No problems. No hesitations. No shortcuts. Quick but calculated installation. Done the right way. In and out. Frank was able to complete the job in 1 day.
