I live in NY, but I had the work done on my parents house in Upper Saddle River, NJ. I called On The Spot for an estimate and they came out, met with me and my parents. They were great from start to finish and the price was right on target with what we had to spend.

We had a great experience with them. They are fairly big in the city and a lot of people use them and recommend them. The work initially was just about putting new siding but there was rot and they ended up having to rebuild the window wells totally. It was kind of like rebuilding the whole front of the house including the porch area. They were very honest and straightforward. No one came out with big books and big presentations when we wanted the estimate. They gave us a very reasonable estimate and then they came out with the samples. They did the work when they said they were going to do it. They showed up with a number of people for the work and it all went well. I was very pleased. They had promised me that they would have it done by Thanksgiving, and then all of the rebuilding happened. They were here with flashlights two nights before Thanksgiving so that I could have my house ready by then. The quality was good enough for us but it may not go well in a mansion. The actual workers that came did not speak English all that well and were kind of gross.

I am happy with the finished product but I had a couple of complaints along the way. A tarp was placed in the middle of my front yard where concrete was mixed and tools were stored. It stayed there for a couple of weeks and did some damage to my lawn. There was also a small issue with the top landing - a combination of concrete and limestone. It was an aesthetic problem and was eventually resolved to my satisfaction. I would probably use them again for similar work. I'm writing this two winters after the steps were replaced and the new ones have held up to much snow, ice, and shoveling and still look great.

On The Spot was great; from the initial estimate to the finish. The design consultant was very understanding of my schedule since I work in NYC, so he would meet me at 9:00 PM at night or on Sundays at my request. I started my first project with them just doing roofing and siding, which came out great. Their pricing was better then the other estimates I got for what they are offering. After that work came out to my satisfaction I decided to use them on an addition project, which also included remodeling my kitchen, etc. I gave them my budget and they came up with a computer 3d design that showed me everything that was going to be done, something other companies didn't offer. From start to finish, from selecting material to installing material, On The Spot was very helpful and always there on time. The project manager was very helpful as well. I will definitely be using On The Spot for life; I have already recommended them to my friends and family for their projects.

The only "snag" was that the crew were half a day late, rather than showing up at 9am as advertised, they weren't on station until a little after 2pm. Aside from that the two guys who performed the bulk of the work were very polite and usually showed at 8am on the other days. When I asked if they would mind pulling a cat5 cable behind one of the drywalls for me, they were happy to oblige and even helped me with moving our old dishwasher from the kitchen to the garage. The guys were all in all very relaxed and professional. All the work was done perfectly and there were no issues, they really know their stuff when it comes to drywalling, I'll say that, first rate job all around. The new sliding glass patio door needed a new frame, so they promptly built one on my deck and installed it with no problems, they also used a local business for the door itself, rather than a generic national brand from Home-Depot, a move that I really support. I would definitely use use On The Spot again and will give them a call for a quote when it comes time to remodel our kitchen and I would most certainly recommend them to anyone who needs a general contractor. The quote included everything, save the actual floor which we had acquired on our own.

The initial appointment was set up for 10/13(Wednesday), but they called that morning to say the work crew had called in sick. They told me they could do Saturday, but I told them that wouldn't work. I insisted on before the weekend, and they said they could do Thursday, but could not give me a specific time frame. The service man ended up coming at 1:30. The man who came, Levi, was professional and seemed to do a fine job. I thought I had a hole in a downspout that needed replacing, but he informed me that hole was intentional so the water didn't go back up the leader. He also told me I had 2 underground clogs and would need to call the company to schedule someone to come and snake them. Being a new homeowner (5 months) I hadn't had experience with gutters and drain systems before. I didn't realize these were two different components and different departments of the company. So now I have a call into the home improvement department. I chose this company because we figured the price was cheap and it was worth a shot. I'm now wondering if some of the pricier companies would have taken care of the snaking and underground cleaning all in one shot.

Two workmen showed up almost 2 hours late. When I called (several times) I only got the answering service and no one returned my calls. The workmen completed everything except the power washing in about 3 hours. I had to remind them to use a level when hanging up the small cabinet in the garage. They cleaned everyhing up very well. The workmen indicated a separate crew would do the powerwashing. I called the company to find out when they were showing up for the powerwash and did not get any response until the end of the day. I called many times. I was told at the end of the day that I had to make a separate appointment for powerwashing. When I made the original appointment to get EVERYTHING DONE...I wanted EVERYTHING DONE! Apparently the powerwashing people from this company don't communicate with the other people in this company...who knew? And why is this my problem? So I had to take ANOTHER DAY OFF from work to get the powerwashing done. On the day set for powerwashing, the 2 man crew showed up an hour late. They had two powerwashers but ONLY ONE WORKED. The powerwashing took about 3 hours and if the other power washer had worked...would have been even less. Total hours including the cabinet, dry wall removal and closet demo and washing...about 6. If you are having anything done that requires both repairs AND powerwashing, it is two different crews and two different schedules. They neglected to indicate that when I set the original appointment. Also it would seem the time/cost estimate is exaggerated and padded. Both crews showed up late for the work, they didn't do all the work on the same day as I originally wanted, they didn't return my calls, and some of the equipment they brought to do the powerwashing didn't work. The excuse they used for showing up late was that they were picking up materials. These jobs were labor only. If you use this company, I would use them for labor only, watch them carefully and be explicit on what you want done and when.

Overall it was a great experience. From the first time we met with one of the estimators to the end of the last job everyone we came in contact with was very polite, the workers work very hard to get the job done, and the head of the crew kept us informed every step of the way and would inform us about and other precautions we should take such as a loose gutter and rotted plywood while doing the roof.

After meeting with a company representative from "On the Spot" home improvements on the work site and explaining 'in detail' what needed to be done, he gave me a quote and I gave him the go ahead to perform the work. I built this home, a two family duplex with attached garages, in 1979, lived there for 25 yrs.,retired and moved to N.Y.State.I have rented it out since 2005 and am a absentee landlord. As such I rely on dependable contractors. This was my 1st experience with "OTS". After giving my OK to do the job I had no further contact with OTS until I received the bill. When I called the tenant to check on the work performed I found that a man had come on a Sunday morning, went up on the roof and left without informing anyone of his presence. The workman had cleaned the gutters on the house and nothing else. The garage gutters were untouched.[ you can see them from a 2nd story window ]. I mean there were weeds growing out of one of the gutters.I called OTS and was told they were surprised that someone had gone there on a Sunday and said they would send someone back to go over the job and complete the work. I took them at there word. This was at the beginning of July '09. This weekend I got a call from my tenant telling me that the gutters had overflowed and had caused water seepage in the basement.Upon further inquiry I was told that the gutters were still clogged with debis and the leaves haven't started to fall yet! I called OTS and was told that they had contracted to clean only the hose gutters, not the garages. This was their reply after describing the scope of the work twice before to other persons from their office. When I last talked to OTS I was told the manager would return my call. I'm still waiting...for a reply from OTS and to have my gutters cleaned.

My roof was leaking and my siding was cracking and/or broken. I knew I had to get them replaced. The damage it was causing needed to be stopped. I called up and they had an estimator here the next day. They gave me my free estimate and I really liked the price. Other companies we're asking for hundreds to thousands more. I had them go along with the project and I'm very pleased with the results. With all this rain we've had in the past month i haven't had any leaks. I'm looking forward to using them in the near future for some remodeling and painting projects that I have.

This could have been a disaster, but it almost was a pleasure. Joe Tighe, the representative/estimator was very responsive and very helpful through the whole process. This job was started and finished in just two days! They brought in extra people with in hours to make sure the roof (wood) was replaced by the end of the first day. They finished on the second day and completely cleaned up. I have not found one nail yet. They were respectful of me, my wife, my dog and my property. My gardens and plantings were virtually unscathed. I was always able to talk to someone with questions as I went through the estimate process and through the actual work. Jennifer in the office was great as well.

They gave me a better price to do both jobs together, but the price was few hundred higher then my other estimates. But the company followed up well, has a beautiful show room, and the salesman and office workers are generally nice and friendly people. I felt safer going with this company; they provided me with everything I needed: roof shingle samples, references, insurance, pictures, coupons, and a written estimate. The job turned out well and the workers cleaned up thoroughly. I also use them for my gutter cleaning and I refer them all the time!

The estimator underestimated the scope of the job, which I found out when the mason came to do the work. He explained to me that both the broken step and the top one would need to be replaced, as would the two top pieces on the landing. He showed how the top step was loose and caving in, and how he couldn't remove the railing without breaking the limestone. He called the company which gave me a new estimate that I felt was fair. They sent an additional estimate and I gave them a credit card number because I had just been laid off and I didn't want them to balk out of fear they wouldn't get paid. The mason and his assistant came out and did the work. It took about 5 hours. They removed the railing, replaced and leveled the limestone, and repointed the bricks. They took the railing for painting and replaced it about a week later. The railing was single-coated (as agreed in the estimate) and I will need to recoat it due to some chipping but I expected to have to do that. When they replaced the railing, they built up the cement around the footings to give it a finished look. The only part of the job that is a bit rough was that they had to open up the siding a bit more to re-attach the railing to the house, but the contractor has told me they can fix this at a later time because I plan to hire them again. Overall I was very satisfied with the quality of the work and with my dealings with this company. I don't know if the quality of their workers differs for other tasks, but I was very happy with the masonry work this time out and the workers were very nice and pleasant to deal with.

I would never hire them again. I read other reviews and they are right. Michael has an anger management problem. He is nice when he comes to give an estimate, but gets very defensive when you complain about the workers performance. When I told him a worker broke something, he accused me of lying. Items were damaged when the roof was done, but after seeing the quality of their work (lousy) I did not want them to try to repair any of it. I just wanted them off the property and out of my life. I would have filed a complaint, but I was afraid what Michael would do. Upon reading the review in Angie's List, Michael from On The Spot offered to correct the problems. He wanted to make sure I would be happy with the services his company provides and that I would be a long standing customer. He even had new gutter covers installed that weekend to compensate for my unhappiness with the previous work. I look forward to using On The Spot again.

Unfortunately, I do not recall the price of the prepping and painting of the two bedrooms. The cost was not too expensive. The business will do such jobs as painting, light carpentry and various other odd jobs. I was very pleased as the job was completed as discussed and the done the right way. They showed up on time each day. The business met my expectations. Upon completion, they cleaned up the work area. I have the company scheduled to complete other handyman work within the next few months.

I did call others for this job, but, no one ever called me back. On The Spot was the only ones. I was pleased with this company, they finished the day that I needed it done and no later. There were two workers. The one thing I didn t like was the owner was only here two times. He did not come back to make sure everything was o.k. afterwards. He really did not even bother, that kind of ticked me off a little.

THIS COMPANY DID GOOD QUALITY WORK. I LIKE THIS COMPANY BECAUSE THE WORKERS WERE SKILLED AND THEY WORKED HARD. THEY WERE PUNCTUAL, WHICH IS RARE TO FIND AROUND HERE. SOME COMPANIES SEEM TO THINK THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR BY WORKING FOR YOU, BUT NOT THIS COMPANY.
