Description of Work: I have used Arid's services since 1991 when I had French drains installed in my home. Arid completed yearly inspections on our pump as well. After Superstorm Sandy hit, we had to replace just about everything in our home including the pump. Everyone associated with Arid was kind, understanding, compassionate and very professional. I highly recommend them!

Description of Work: I had water in my basement. ARID installed French drains and sump pumps. They were professional, reliable and reasonably priced. I have had no problems since, even during the worst storms. I highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Our basement was subject to flooding during heavy rain despite a "French drain" system installed by the former homeowner. Upon recommendations of neighbors, I contacted Arid to re-do the French drains and sump pump. They excavated the old system, whose conduits had never been connected to the sump pump well, and installed higher quality drains connected directly to the new sump pump. The work wwas completely quickly and neatly at the contracteed price. We have not had a single drop of water in the basement since the work was completed.

Description of Work: It's been a long time and I'm writing this review from memory. First, this is the only waterproofer I would ever use. They originally came and explained what they would do. I wasn't ready to commit so they asked if they could contact me in 6 months. This went on for 1 1/2 years. When I was finally ready they came as scheduled, were in and out of my house in 2 days and did exactly was contracted. I had a small problem and they came back immediately to fix it. What was amazing is when I asked for references rather they give me a selected few they gave me a book of past customers (maybe 300+) and told me to call whomever. I promise that this review is written by a very satisfied customer not a relative. We've never had any water in iur basement since. Lots of luck, used Arid.

Didn't go as I explained.
Description of Work: Got an estimate and didn't hire them. First - they seem to be too busy, it took the guy a week to get to see the work site. Ok, you must be good, let's see. Then the lady on the phone diagnosed the problem just from my words - a sign of a huge experience/ clarvoyance/too much self assurance? The sales rep's on-site diagnosis was the same - build a French drain. Fine. Where does the water output go? "well, into a corrugated pipe, 5 feet from the foundation". But it will go into a ground and be reabsorbed by the wall, go back to the sump pit, etc -- do you install underground pipe to the curb? "No, it's not allowed by the code". Total B.S. - it is, half of the houses in our town have it, and I got a personal affirmative response from the township master plumber. "...or you can hook it to the sewer line, some people do that" -- what the heck?? it is DEFINITELY not allowed by the code. Next: there will be a 1 inch gap along the wall to allow for seepage. Buzzzzz! Fishy, fishy - it's the source of radon right there; why not install a plastic channel and cover the very top with concrete? Finally - "there will be some dust when we do it"...yes, but do you seal the basement with plastic, set up a negative pressure environment, etc? "no, homeowners do it themselves". Phew.....and the price was as high as my highest bidder's who does all of those things - plus - clean the walls from mold and wash with mold-resistant wash. They claim to be the oldest waterproofing company in NJ and it shows - the techniques are definitely from the 70s. I passed with a clear conscience. Perhaps I learned too much about the process beforehand unlike some noobs who give them 5 stars. <<Reply to the company's response>> Phew, I am relieved...Seriously guys, I appreciate the facts and the balanced feedback. As I indicated, I asked the master plumber, and that was the response I received. He's an excellent code specialist who can quote it by heart. In many instances the code is subject to specific official's interpretation, it's all I can say. In any case, I wasn't happy that many of my points wouldn't be met, that was only one of them. As far as the company that I went with going out of business, a little humility in tumultuous times wouldn't be too much. After all, GM and Bear Stearns folded too, and they were in business longer than you.

Response from Arid Basement Waterproofing
I'm sorry to hear that your experience with Arid was not up to par. In our 49 years of business in NJ, we've learned that you can't waterproof everyone's basement who calls you up for an estimate. However, what we have learned is that you can discern whether it is a water table problem or a surface problem over the phone. This saves you and us time when the solution is something other than a French drain. If you asked your town building inspector rather than the plumber, that person would have told you that there is a statewide code for zero runoff (as per Tom Pitcherello, code specialist in Trenton), that there are people grandfathered in for discharging to the curb and that in special instances, homeowners are granted permission to hook up to the sewer. As for the 1" gap and radon: many houses are being built with the 1" gap these days, not every house has radon, and if we knew your house was close to or over the picocurie limit, we would have proposed a sealed French drain system. Eugene, if you ever need our service on your French drain because the company you went with is out of business, don't hesitate to call. We won't hold any hard feelings.
